We stopped in for a Chai and snack but wound up sharing a wonderful curry chicken croissant sandwich and finished off with a sugar cinnamon muffin. Service was friendly and attentive. First off, walking into here is like finding a secret garden that is inviting and private and plush simultaneously. Attention to detail on all things down to the adorable toothpicks for my BLAT. Loved Second, service is fantastic. Casey, our server, was so sweet and knowledgeable-- with great recommendations and insights. Third, and definitely even more fantastic, is the food. What a fun and beautiful new spot on The Hill! My daughter and I met a friend for brunch and felt we fell into Alice's rabbit hole in a good way as soon as we entered. There are huge and fun chairs, chandeliers at an angle and hats for lights. So fun! The staff is super friendly and ready to serve and help. We ordered mimosas (grapefruit and orange) to start. 2 of us ordered the lobster eggs Benedict and one got the basic Benedict. The flavor was fabulous. I wish it would have been hot (it was warm) and my poached egg not so cooked that the center was medium to hard. It was our friend's birthday so they told us she got a free slice of cake. It was beautifully presented and unfortunately quite dry. We know new places have kinks to work out and I'm hopeful that they will. The so am afternoon tea service and all being lovers of this kind of Mad Hatter party, we made reservations for the next day to give it a try. I look forward to writing a review about the tea! Welcome to the portal of Alice & Rose- where you will be delighted by the sumptuous pastries, steaming lattes (toasted marshmallow!!!) and gleaming eclectic cafe. It's clear that every detail of this cafe has been though through- from the top hat pendant lights, to the high tea platters, it's a gleaming beautiful place to enjoy a glass of wine or cup of tea. Though I am not usually a scone fan, I ordered one with my latte. I was pleasantly surprised that it was moist and flavorful. August is a great barista and made a perfect latte! My only disappointment was that we were there too early for brunch and weren't in town long enough to enjoy dinner. A must stop on your way through Boulder! read more

What can be more fun than an upscale brunch place on the Hill, yet not populated entirely by loud students? A friend and I stopped in on a Sunday, mid-day and it was a great experience. Though they were training new staff, it went very smoothly. We probably should have had a reservation or a saved waitlist option available online, but luckily we were next to get the soon cleared table for two that was empty. And being brightly lit against the south facing window on a sunny day was perfect for my reduced vision. Most new places are not well lit enough and my special light for such cases was not with me. The brunch menu is extensive and fairly priced for the items, which were upscale and cooked to order. My friend had a salad that I will have next time as very generous in size and complexity, with 2 skewers of grilled blackened (lightly) shrimp for a total of 8 good sized shrimp. The greens and avocado were as fresh as can be. I had the Croissant, bacon, egg and cheese sandwich and that was excellent and large also, with a fruit skewer on the side. So much food I could barley finish it even at noon. You will need the knife and fork to eat as the surface was very melty and so fully filled, it was almost impossible to pick up in your hands. At the table next to us, we saw one of the tower of treats which seemed immense for two, and the customers told us that the scones with lemon curd and cream were incredible. Another thing to consider but my husband and I could not eat the whole thing ourselves. You will certainly need more friends for that. Also, that conversation was unavoidable (but fun) as the tables are very tightly packed into the beautifully decorated space (as you can see from the dozens of photos others have taken) so it is not very private. But everyone seemed fine with the social experience. There is also a community table for singles or small groups to use when picking up coffee bar and pastry items who do not need wait service. I have always liked this historic building on the Hill. I have been here for every iteration it has been since the 70s. For many years it was one of Boulder's better bicycle shops, where I bought a bike for myself as well as one for one of my kids. Then it was a typical coffee shop with light eats, Then it was a combined coffee shop and bookstore with live poetry readings in the evenings. Then it sat empty during the pandemic until these local owners renovated it to the Alice and Wonderland theme. It will be very handy for the guests at the soon to be opened hotel nearby along with some of our older locally owned eateries, one especially well known, and one not as well known but also very good. All have very different menus and all good options within a block of each other. read more

What a whimsical, fun, enchanting little restaurant! Perfect for tea parties for old or young. The attention to detail in decor and service made it a wonderful experience! From the throne style seats, and mad hatter chandelier, to the tower of pancakes with heart shaped ramekins for fruit.... there are so many wonderful things to see. Even the little heart shape spoons and dishes are the perfect detail. Would definitely come back for an adult tea party or to bring just the kids and have a tea party. The venue is so lovely, the vibes are immaculate and the service was friendly and kind. All the staff we met that day were full of genuine smiles and kindness. For $60 I personally got 1 egg tea sandwich, 1 cucumber tea sammy, 1 pimento tea sammy, 2 mini micro scones, 1 choco strawberry and 1 macaroon. I got 1 pot of tea (with a free refill if wanted) and 1 special beverage (I chose the non-alcoholic sparkling "win" - it was delicious) and 1 slice of cake. The sandwiches were beyond small. The egg sammy had no flavor, the cucumber sammy was literally 2 pieces of thin cucumber on a minimal amt of goat cheese and the pimento sammy was one open face micro slice of bread with the thin spread of pimento on it. I was super disappointed with all of it. The bread was lackluster and the flavor totally mediocre. The scones were a HUGE bummer. TINY !!!!!!! SUPER TINY!!! the clotted cream was lovely and the lemon curd good, but omg.......wow, such a sad experience. The cake felt like it had been frozen and thawed, it was super dense and the frosting was overly sugary. Nothing special about it and would never eat it again. I have been to many high tea services, and I just had a different expectation for this, and you know sometimes you go to a restaurant venue and it feels like you are paying for the vibes and their rent?? Like, the place was so gorgeous and I felt like the food itself was a cheap second after thought that is a nice idea but delivered nothing but a huge bill at the end of the meal. Did I enjoy myself.....kind of. I loved having time with my friend in a pretty place but the high cost of the tea "service" and the mediocre food left me feeling supremely let down. They have other things on the menu, but nothing that excited me and makes me want to return. For me, this experience was a one and done and I won't be back, nor will I recommend them just because of the value inequality for the environment not matching the food at all. Wonderful, funky, stop for brunch! We really enjoyed the Alice themed decor and our food was delightful. I had the eggs Benedict, the best I've had in a restaurant in quite some time and my partner had the French toast, which she thoroughly loved. The server liked the design on the latte so much she took a picture of it before bringing it to the table. Looked like making a reservation is a good idea, at least for weekend brunch. Parking can be tough on the Hill but there are pay lot across the street. Definitely recommend checking Alice and Rose out! read more

They really just couldn't pull it together. Even though they had about 4-5 wait staff and only about 8-10 tables of customers, they took a long time and kept bringing us the wrong dishes and the wrong drinks. Some of the food was good, some of it was mediocre. Scones were great. The side salad was awful. I tried to order tea and they brought me a teacup with hot water in it and then left to come back with a tea tray full of multiple types of tea, except the one I ordered. By then the water was not hot enough to steep the tea in, so I just went without a beverage. We won't be back. read more

I am so impressed by the knowledge of tea, and my choice did not disappoint. The finger sandwiches were delightful. They were open faced which made for a beautiful presentation. Ambiance and esthetic was delightful. However, we did not receive the service we hoped for. I booked weeks ahead of time and expected a better experience. They had one server working so because of that she said she could not give us the full tea presentation, tea was brought out after food was served and eaten. Milk and sugar were forgotten. I had to ask for my drink multiple times and my water was never refilled. The food is definitely not worth the price, very small servings. One thing she did not forget was to charge us for 20% for tea service. Very disappointed as I do this once a year for my god daughters and even they rated this place a 3/10. I understand a lot of places are short staffed but you should have made us aware of that and I would have been more understanding. read more

What a wonderful morning today. We "fell into" the fabulous Alice and Rose restaurant and were treated to a Wonderland of food, decor, and service. Our meals were beautifully presented and extraordinarily delicious. Ample portions were tasty and perfectly prepared. Charming silverware, cups, heart-shaped teaspoons and plates reflected the Alice in Wonderland charm and ambience. The amazing interior design is a flawless example of attention to detail while closely following the "Through the Looking Glass" imagery. Framed international artwork and imported furniture effectively and gorgeously continue the themes of Lewis Carroll's visions. A delightful brunch with family was transformed to a wondrous dining experience that will be revisited in the future. Today was a lucky day for us! read more

I had brunch there today. What a wonderful addition to our town. This restaurant is magical. When you walk in it is like something out of a dream. OK I know that sounds like I'm exaggerating, but it's pretty fantastic. Small, with a whimsical decor that you might find in Greenwich Village, New York. I had the lobster eggs Benedict. Don't go!! Sorely disappointed by the quality and quantity of the food and service and the prices were exorbitant. We ordered three tea "tiers" and only received two. When we asked why we were told that they "consolidated" the food onto two tiers to save room on our table (there was plenty of room on the table and even the two tiers that we were given had almost no food on them). For $200 we received: 4 avocado "bites" (one slice of bread cut into 4 pieces with a smear of avocado), a few French toast bites, 2 croissants, one flavorless muffin and a small bowl of plain yogurt with a little granola and some honey. There were also some berries (some of which were moldy!). If you are looking for a great tea experience do NOT go here. Service was *terrible* despite the place being empty--it took over 30 minutes for us to just get some tea--and they charged a 20% non-optional gratuity for 4 people. The atmosphere is cute but definitely NOT worth the money. STAY AWAY! Head to the Chautauqua Dining Hall, the Boulderado Hotel or the Dushanbe Tea House instead. Those places know what they are doing and the food and service are worth the money you spend. read more

Went here for afternoon tea with 3 adults and 2 kids. Fantastic experience! The food and teas were awesome. Scones are a bit small (think cookie sized), but everything else was spot on and it's the best children's tea offering anywhere. Lots of places just give kids peanut butter and jelly instead of the cucumber sandwiches, which my picky kids hate (not the right kind of bread, not the right kind of jelly, etc.), but Alice and Rose does an awesome tower with mini pancake skewers (similar to ebelskiver pancakes) and several dipping sauces that the kids absolutely loved and devoured! Holley (the owner) threw in a few extra nibbles to make sure everyone was happily satisfied and also told us about several of the art pieces that are all over the restaurant. If you are a Disney fan or just a fan of Alice in Wonderland, this place is a must visit. The attention to detail in the decor and china and even the restrooms is so fun!
