Nice dinner but to be really top notch, can do a little more. Really enjoyed the roasted oysters. The she crab was good and the spicy pasta with shrimp was really tasty but expected a slightly bigger portion for the price. Enjoyed the Ken Wright pinot noir, but as a really nitpicky thing, expect a red wine to be served in a bigger glass.

Had a few drinks at the bar with a very friendly bar staff. Dinner upstairs was relaxing and service was great. Started with the "lobster escargot" which was very good. All of us at the table had the scallop special and a side of the street corn. Amazing food. Thanks for making final night in Charleston a good one. Will be back.

Almond basket with fresh berries and ice cream

It has been a while since we dined at Anson, but we were craving the Crispy Flounder with Apricot shallot sauce, and the only other good option is driving 2 hours to Savannah. The restaurant is beautiful with its dark wood and old pictures, most of which paying tribute to horses. The service was spot on. Nothing really stood out to us for appetizers, so we went in a different direction and decided to split the Lobster Buccatini main dish to start a dinner. This was a great pick as we loved the fresh noodles were fantastic in the White wine, and garlic, shallot reduction garnished with the grape tomatoes, We both ordered the Crispy Founder as I indicated that we were BOTH craving it. WOW, WOW, WOW, this is so much better than either of us remembered. I think it was the heat from the peppers that contrasted so well with the sweetness from the apricot sauce that made this dish so much better than before. For dessert the wife ordered and enjoyed the Pecan pie ala mode, I really loved the Almond basket. As the name suggests, the basket is made from crushed Almonds, likely hardened with sugar and melted butter. The basket was filled with fresh berries, ice cream, and a couple of sprigs of fresh mint. Yum!!!! We will NOT wait so long to go back the next time

Five Star rating brought to you by the restaurant's location, service and main dishes. It is also a gorgeous setting. Staff was both friendly and professional, very old school southern charm. The restaurant is right next to Charleston Market. And my shrimp pasta dish was scrumptious. Some things that weren't my favorite include the small dish size for the price and I did not enjoy the snow crab appetizer. While the specialty Margarita was $22 it was good pour. Overall, the ambiance, main dish, and professional southern service make this a recommendation and a would go to again!

    Amazingly good

The BEST food we ate all week!!! It is amazing. The fish was incredible, the drinks amazing, the atmosphere terrific, the dessert made us tempted to lick the plate. Would go back again and again. Service had charm. Gluten free items marked on menu. We loved it and it was gluten free. Crab legs- yummy Gf dessert- yummy Fish- amazing we ordered the halibut and the grouper

Great atmosphere, good service and the food is amazing. We had the Tomahawk pork chops and the royal red shrimp appetizer, both were very tasty. It's located next to the Old Town carriage tours so you can roll right out of the restaurant and scratch the horses' noses. Recommend highly.

    Beet and burrata salad

An excellent dinner with expert polished service: beet and burrata salad with pistachio vinaigrette to start, halibut and filet mignon for entrees, and hazelnut cake with a Sauternes dessert wine to finish. The meal was well paced, service was prompt and unobtrusive, and the upstairs dining room has old time ambiance with moody low country marsh murals and crystal chandeliers. Wines by the glass were very good and the rum punch was attractively presented.

As a Charleston native who's been living in Texas for the past several years, it had been quite some time since I've eaten at Anson (about 10 years or so give or take) During one of my frequent (but unplanned) trips back to the Lowcountry my sister made a last minute dinner reservations for us and Anson was one of the few available to accommodate so I was excited to give this old Charleston standard a visit with an older and more appreciative palate. The host at the front and hostess were all incredibly friendly as well all of the wait staff, unfortunately though I don't see myself returning for probably another 10 years based on the quality of the meal. For starters our table went with the tuna and fried green tomatoes and for my entree I went with the filet with a cup of the she crab soup on the side. The pros: -the tuna appetizer was very interesting and had an interesting contrast of flavors that I really enjoyed. This wasn't a dish I would have ordered myself so I was glad the table did -my sister had the brussel sprouts as a side and she said they were her favorite item from the menu that she tasted that night The meh: -The fried green tomatoes were fine. In a city renown for its southern cuisine though, you can find better. These just didn't have any love in 'em. --one member of my table ordered the lobster pasta...he said it was "just ok" but he was too hungry not to eat it. The bad: -Again, in a city renown for its southern cuisine no restaurant should be screwing up one of the state's homegrown food items - she crab soup. I've enjoyed the South Carolinian dish all throughout the state and can firmly say Anson has the title for my least favorite. I had 2 spoonfuls and pushed it to the side. I think sherry must be the #1 ingredient in Anson's recipe as it was all I could taste -I ordered my filet medium with black truffle butter but what I received was more medium well marching its way to well done. As soon as it was brought to the staff's attention they were very prompt in remedying the issue, however, by the time the freshly prepared steak was brought back to me the rest of my table was almost finished dining. I did try a few bites and it was cooked to perfection the second time around HOWEVER the truffle butter was missing as well as the accompanying parmesan tomato. I had to request they be brought back and when they were the butter was ice cold. -My sister ordered the salmon and she said it was extremely fishy. She only ate about half the dish before giving up on it. When the final bill came they had taken the she crab soup off of the bill On a final note - I also didn't get what ambience they were trying to go for in there. Casual southern elegance? Sports bar? The giant tv over the bar playing a game was giving off mixed vibes with the rest of the space. TLDR - Charleston (yet alone the Market area) has too many phenomenal restaurants to waste your appetite or money on Anson.

Very special. She-crab soup was phenomenal. Creamy, sweet yet savory and rich but light. Fried oysters were great too. Shrimp and grits. Phenomenal. A little smokey which was nice. Scallops were cooked perfectly. Risotto bed they was perfect. The tomatoes stole the show here. Special date night atmosphere inside. Friendly staff. Overall excellent.

Anson is a Charleston establishment I shockingly had never been to. All around I had a good experience. Service was friendly and the food was tasty. Started out with the fried green tomato appetizer that had delicious chunks of bacon with it. Ordered the NY strip with bone marrow butter and street corn as the side. Steak was perfectly cooked. Finally ended with the fruit basket for dessert. Loved the crunchy shell!

Although some dishes are seasonal, these happen to be entrees that are served year-round according to our server Both were quite delicious. The vegetarian plate had a wide variety of veggies -- from mashed potatoes, to wilted spinach, asparagus, green beans, and fried tomato's. There were only two medium pieces of fried tomato so I do wish they put more in the plate but oh well. My partner loved his bouillabaisse and apparently it's the southern rendition of a French dish that is one of their most popular dishes. It has lots of seafood in it. The meal also came with complimentary warm bread, which was nice. The pecan pie was very good, but the crust was kind of hard and there were fewer pecans than I'm used to and more caramel. The ambiance is more formal but people were dressed mostly casual (and chic if I might add). Dim lighting and if you don't want as much noise to carry I would ask for seating in the back because it's noticeably louder in the front. Overall the food is very good and prices are not as expensive for the quality. Our server was great!

My friend said the tomato pie was really good but it's all cheese and tomatoes. The fried green tomatoes were crispy but needed seasoning. They were incredibly bland. For the main dish she ordered the smash burger and I ordered the fish and grits. She took one bite of the smash burger and sent it back saying it tasted like a frozen burger you'd get at Walmart. The fish and grits were ok. They too were bland and needed salt. A LOT of salt or any other seasoning. The okra, Lima beans and corn that come in this dish also tasted like it came out of a frozen bag. There is no seasoning in this dish whatsoever. Unfortunately this place was a miss and we won't be returning. Also the bathrooms look like a porta potty. You know the cheap plastic that porta potties are made out of? Yeah that's what the stalls are made out of. It looks so cheap and a big contrast from the rest of the restaurant. The staff was nice but they also look like they hate working here.

Everyone was so personable and attentive. For appetizers, the beef carpaccio was my favorite. For entrées, we ordered the pork chop, tuna, duck, and lamb -- and we all shared bites. Everything was delicious. My pork chop did come out a little dry, but when I mentioned it, our waitress didn't hesitate at all. She immediately took it back and insisted on bringing a new one, making me feel completely comfortable about saying something. While I waited, she brought me a complimentary soup, which was such a thoughtful touch, and the replacement came out quickly. The manager personally brought out the new dish and waited while I cut into it to make sure it was perfect. She even came back later to check again. That level of attention to detail really stood out. To top it off, they brought out dessert and a round of champagne for the table. We were a little early for our reservations and were told that they are seating exactly on time, which was totally fine. We strolled around a bit and returned at our designated time. We were seated on the first floor in a room near the street. We loved how each room had a different ambiance to it! It really is a beautiful restaurant with a lot of charm to it! Our waitress was very nice! She was very helpful with her recommendations and very attentive. My husband and I both ordered drinks and my daughter ordered a Shirley Temple. Her Shirley Temple was extremely grenadine heavy, which I think they assumed they were doing her a favor, but she was a bit overwhelmed by how sweet it was. They serve it with a Sprite instead of Ginger Ale, just FYI. For dinner, I of course had to order the She Crab soup. Believe the hype! It was the best She Crab soup I had in Charleston. It was sheer perfection. I ordered the Skillet Chicken Cutlets and my husband had the Braised Beef Short Ribs. His dinner was delicious, the short ribs were so soft and tender and just melted in your mouth. I enjoyed the few bites of his more than my chicken, even though my meal was still good. There was A LOT of corn with my meal, but everything had such a great taste to it. We rounded the dinner off with a piece of Pecan Pie and vanilla ice cream which was very good as well. This restaurant is definitely on the more expensive side so be ready to drop a pretty penny. Overall, it was pretty darn good, and we will probably be back!
