We had been meaning to try Annapurna for ages. The incredible spice aroma bombarding us each time we take the broadway/denny exit out of the station, we knew we needed to finally try out this capitol hill staple. I'm glad to say it did not disappoint in the slightest. We were seated quickly. The ambience in the basement seating area is super cool. The Himalayan/Nepalese decorating is distinct and enjoyable. The service throughout dinner was very fast and attentive. All of the food was unique and delicious. I couldn't help but take a picture of the humorous sign in the bathroom - FYI, they sell their copperware. One thing to note: they add a 15% service charge to the bill and do not expect additional tipping. I get that this sort of practice is controversial. I agree with the idea that businesses should be up front with pricing and adjust menu prices instead of adding charges at the end. I think it helps that I was aware of this charge going into the meal. I'm not a big fan of this practice overall, but I can't let it stop me from eating at otherwise great establishments like Annapurna. Looking forward to adding Annapurna to our regulars.
Annapurna was incredible! The food was delicious, the ambience was just right for our small get together, and we had a lovely time. One brief caveat before I rave about the food--the intake process is highly unorganized. I asked the first individual I saw about our reservation and he just told us it's "on the other side". Okay, where? We go across the hall and down and someone greets us, then asks if we want a table. I remind them about our reservation and they are unsure if they can seat us. Then as the woman who is helping us is grabbing menus, another man comes and asks us if we want a table... they are just not coordinated. They ended up seating us at a far away corner of the restaurant and at some point the man came to us and said "look you're over here away from everyone! Don't you love it??" Weird. Okay but onto the food. The momos (we got 3-4 different kinds) were all absolutely fantastic. we also ordered a few curries and went with the medium spice level which I think was right for a table that claimed to be able to handle a bit of spice but in reality can't handle too much. Personally I would have gone spicier. I ordered a chai and it was heavenly! So flavorful but it didn't end up conflicting with my sleep so that was great. The recommendations from the server were all excellent and every dish was loved by the table which leads me to believe it's hard to go wrong here. Ultimately after we were seated everything was conducive to an enjoyable time--great company, great food, and nice ambience that struck the balance between bringing the food at a reasonable pace but also giving us space to enjoy ourselves.
Went late on a Sunday night with 4 people and we were seated immediately. The food was very flavorful, and my friend who is pescatarian was well accommodated for. The garlic naan was so good, I wish we had gotten two. I'd definitely come back to try more of the menu.
Solid Indian foods that I had in Seattle. Went here for my friend's bday (she loves Indian foods and doesn't eat meat, but I do). We sat down in the basement but it's alley cause the services here are great and it makes up for the lacking of sunlights and the street views. We order bunch of dishes (non meat of course) but I managed to order a lamp curry dish...man it was delish - of course the others too since we finished them all. Love this place.
We weren't sure where we were going on Broadway and decided to pop into Annapurna. I've walked by it forever (in relative terms - it's older than my daughter who I brought with me). We were seated immediately in the Yeti Bar (it was only 4:45) and supplied with excellent pappadum. We ordered the lamb kothay momo to start with. We followed that with sekuwa, garlic naan, and one of the classic combos (I missed the name but it has a chicken curry). The momo came out very quickly and were fantastic. We loved them plain and with the various sauces. The lamb was so tender and flavorful. The chicken curry was fantastic (we ordered 2/3 spicy stars). We loved all of the sides. I can't believe it's taken so long to stop by and try it. Our service was very friendly and the food was great. If you're in town try Annapurna.
Wow, what an incredible meal! We were overdue for a date night, and decided to hit a bar before Annapurna. Walking into the hallway decorated with lanterns and twinkling lights helped you immerse into the transformative dining experience. We got a table during a busy Saturday night. We lucked out on a 4top for 2ppl! We needed space for dishes. We went a little overboard on apps. If we should have passed on anything, it would have been the calamari. We love chickpeas, but the breading wasn't doing it for us. The tensing momo was above and beyond!! I also adored the crispy rolls. We decided on chicken tikka masala and annapurna curry with lamb. AMAZING! Combine them both if you're daring. It's hard not to keep dipping, and the naan was soft on inside and crispy on outside. Service was quick! Our copper glasses stayed full. Will be back!
I've been here for take out and dine in multiple times, and I've enjoyed my experience every time. This has been one of my favorite restaurants since I was in high school.
This was my first visit to this restaurant. We ordered jaljeera, spinach momos, paneer chili momos, pani puri, malai kofta, and naan. The ambiance is cozy and comfortable. My favorites were the pani puri and momos, which were amazing. However, the jaljeera lacked the authentic flavor and was too mild. The malai kofta was too sweet, had insufficient gravy, and the kofta were a bit hard. The naan was just okay--slightly cold and a bit stiff. I would definitely recommend this place for the momos!
Solid nepalese and south asian place with dark lighting and the best mango lassi nearby. The Chicken Tikka Masala was well seasoned and adequately creamy but the chicken was a bit tough.
I wanted to love Annapurna Cafe after a mishap nearby with a restaurant not being open, but sadly it was just an okay experience food-wise. The restaurant specializes in Indian, Nepalese, and Tibetan cuisine from the mountainous regions. While I usually go some apps and a curry, the selection of Tibetan dishes definitely intrigued me so I differed from my usual orders... and that was probably a slight mistake on my end. We tried their Annapurna Curry with Tofu, the Tibetan Vegetable Thukpa soup, and a Stuffed Paratha. The curry felt very watery and unflavored to the point of it being almost too bland. Paratha was flaky but also bland to us. The thukpa was probably the biggest disappointment. It tasted like a bland vegetable soup that you could throw together at home so I regretted not going for another type of daal or curry. I also noticed their menu was confusing when it came to labeling what was vegetarian or vegan. They'd go back and forth either listing an item as 'vegan' or using a symbol, or not at all on items I was confident would be vegan friendly. While the food was bland, I did find the ambiance quite nice with the restaurant being on a lower level and the staff creating quite the mood lighting for us. Perhaps these dishes were just misses on our end and they have other great items to try. Hopefully if you come, you'll have a better food experience than we did.
The first thing I noticed was how yummy the smell was when I entered. The food lived up to the smell. I had the Samay Baji with chicken. I didn't know what wa all on it but each item was full of flavor and tasty. I love trying new foods and I was big disappointed.
Second time wasn't as impressive as my first time, but it's so cheap that I didn't mind it. The paleek/saag paneer (4.5/5 stars) and the naan (4/5 stars) were the only dishes I was super impressed with.

I came here on a Thursday evening at about 7pm and was able to snag a table for two in their downstairs restaurant area without a wait. There is actually quite ample room downstairs for seating so make sure to check there if you're looking to grab a bite. I got a mango lassi as my drink which was super tasty. It's also a great way to cut the spice if your entree gets to you. I ended up getting the shrimp korma with a spice level of 2. It was delicious! Next time I'd definitely get a spice level 1 because the spice definitely hit me the more I ate. Thankfully the mango lassi helped me out in terms of spice! The garlic naan was so so tasty too and the perfect dip for the korma sauce. I can't wait to come here again and try more of their extensive menu. read more
This cozy Himalayan restaurant is primarily underground with equally cozy Himalayan/Indian dishes. It's reasonably priced with lots of vegetarian and vegan options, and everything is best to be shared family style. The garlic naan is a must and each order is one large piece that serves two. We tried a few different curry dishes-- my personal favorite was the Mater Paneer which was paneer cheese in a rich tomato sauce with peas. Every dish also comes with an order of rice and you can choose between white or brown. Their drink menu is quite large too with relatively affordable cocktails. Our food came pretty quick and it was a nice dinner in Cap Hill! read more

My usual order: 2 plates of tensing momos This is pretty much the only thing I ordered here, there are Nepali momo. Annapurna makes the best momos in Seattle and definitely the place to go to! Recently I have had to do to go order because I don't believe they are open for dine in still (they haven't been the last few times I have called). Like usually nothing is as good at the restaurant but for a taken out meal I still really enjoyed the food. The one comment that I do have is that I think the sauce hasn't been very consistent? Some days I like the red sauce more and some days the red sauce is so bland that I like the peanut sauce more. I wish the sauces were a bit consistent becuase I really miss the original red sauce! There was even a day where I liked the green sauce only because the other two tasted so different! But maybe there are multiple cooks and I just love a certain cook? Still love this place, would highly recommend! read more

Annapurna Cafe was recommended by a co-worker, and I'm so glad I took them up on it. When I went dine-in was still unavailable, which was fine, however there seemed to be a bit of confusion/chaos with coordinating take out orders (so be prepared to wait). I went with their regular naan, the tofu veggie masala with brown rice, and the Tensing Momo. Everything was delicious, and kept warm even with a 20min drive home. The masala was packed with huge chunks of veggies (specifically cubed zucchini and tofu), not sure if they change the veggies in the masala but my order had: zucchini, mushrooms, carrots, cauliflower, and broccoli. The sauce is a creamy cashew base, which is slightly sweet and (to me) tasted almost like seafood (like a lobster bisque). The sauce, veggies, and tofu were so hearty that I'll definitely ask to not have rice the next time I order and instead will see if I can sub with more veggies. With the naan I was well on my way to a happy food coma. The Tensing Momo was originally what brought about my co-worker recommending Annapurna, and I can see why. The Tibetan style chicken dumpling was well cooked, and it didn't feel they skimped on packing the inside with chicken. The 3 sauces (peanut, sesame, and tomato chutney) was a nice variety of taste and spice. The sesame and tomato were my favorite, and I ended using both on each piece. The peanut sauce was a little overwhelming, and even a little bit felt like I was dipping it into a jar of peanut butter. Which, to be fair, could be delightful for anyone who's a huge peanut fan. I will definitely come back for the veggie masala and naan, especially when it rains again. read more
Got the chicken vindaloo, a spicy tomato based curry with potatoes and protein. You can choose white or brown rice on the side, and I also ordered some garlic naan to mop up the remaining curry They warned me that some people cried eating it. It definitely got me workin up a sweat I ordered the banana shake as well (yogurt/banana drink) because it sounded interesting and I was curious. It was nothing mindblowing, but I'm glad I got it as it was able to bail me out of the spice a few times The food was good, albeit quite pricey (the dish it came out in was on the smaller side). There's also a service charge applied. I might be back to try the chicken tikka masala. They also gave a free appetizer: some fried crisps with what I believe was mint chutney? The 'chips' had amazing flavor from the spices but they were definitely a bit too salty. Not complaining though since they were free :P read more

I've been wanting to try this place for almost a year now. First I love that you go down couple of set of stairs. The decor reminds me of being in Nepal - it's not contemporary, love that this place embraces its heritage even in the decor. We had chai - I liked it but it's a little on the sweeter side for me. I love that it's served in a clay cup. Papad were crispy and came with mint chutney. Aloo/mattar (potato and pea) paratha - different than traditional Punjabi parathas, smaller in size but still packed with flavor. Ample amount of butter and garlic was scintillating my tastebuds. Tensing momos - one order comes with 6 pieces. The flavor was well balanced, outside was just the right amount of chewy. It's served with 3 different chutneys - tamarind, tomato and sesame seed. Everyone loved it. The calamari + onion pakoras - this does not go with anything. The calamari pieces were too tiny and rubbery, it felt like you were biting into deep fried batter. The flavoring was good but it would be better to bite into something instead of air and batter. We were served by Luna, she did a great job of communicating, checking up on and just chatting. Definitely a place we'd be visiting again. Parking is street parking or 30min retain parking for the building. Give this place a try if you are in town !! read more
For being one of the only Indian / Nepalese places around here, i'm truly shocked at how many others rate this place somewhat positively! I went here with a few friends on a thursday evening and can hands down say it was one of my least favorite restaurants i've gone to in seattle. If you go during prime hours, you could wait for up to 40-60 minutes (even for take out!). I ordered a classic butter chicken, naan, mango lassi, and daal. For the hefty sticker on each dish (~$18-20), you would think you would be served large portions, but the bowl was probably smaller than a soup dish, and had 3-4 pieces of chicken for the whole bowl. I also know this wasn't just an oops on my dish as i've talked to other friends who also complain of the same thing - never enough protein offered in the dishes! The garlic naan was hard and crispy and not soft, very unsettling! Even when the food finally arrived, no one offered dinner plates and I had to ask 2 different waiters to get some for us (which took another 5 min) before we could actually eat. My friend asked for a custom cocktail but the bartender was not that knowledgeable despite the ingredients of her drink all being readily available behind the bar. Don't even bother with the lassi - it's poured out of some pre-bought gallon jug and blended with ice and yes I saw this with my own eyes! On top of all this, it all took 60+ minutes to get our food! I had to constantly keep asking if we were going to get our food or if we should cancel and leave after a long wait. I understand if the wait to sit down is 60 minutes, but getting our food should not take this long! Would NOT go back here. read more

A fairly good spot for Indian food with all of the classics -- I felt like the food was tasty but it didn't blow me out of the water. I got the Samosa, Matter Paneer with Naan, and Mango Lassi. The samosa was pretty good but the filling was seasoned differently to how I've tasted before -- this might be since it's a Nepali-Indian fusion place. The curry was alright and same goes for Lassi, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to go here. The potions were pretty large across the board which was nice! read more

My friend William brought me to this restaurant. I had to keep an open mind cause Indian cuisine isn't normally my cup of tea. Ordered two alcohol drinks Pina colada and banana one and it was good. The pita/naan bread was also really nice as well. The paneer and kofta we're well done. Seasoned just right without being over powering. A lot of Indian cuisine I sample to too over powering and leaves me with severe gastrointestinal distress. No food when eaten properly should do that. The waiter was also nice. Overall a really pleasant experience. The decor is also a huge plus. Come for the decor stay for the food. Also bring a friend as well William was fantastic to copilot a restaurant with. Definitely check this place out enjoy this restaurant! read more
While walking down Broadway, we decided to eat here because of the incredible smells coming from their doorway, and it certainly didn't disappoint! Their menu is really expansive, but we ordered: Tensing Momo: chicken momos with three chutneys. These were juicy and flavorful, and the chutneys were especially delicious! Annapurna Curry w/ goat: a spicy and comforting curry. So flavorful, would recommend if you haven't had Nepalese food before and can't decide what to get! Vegetable Kofta: paneer vegetable balls in a cashew sauce. My least favorite because I wished the kofta were crispier, though the sauce was good. Garlic Naan: a delicious side, nothing more to say! Prices are a tad on the expensive side, but portions are certainly filling and we had leftovers. We came on a weekend for dinner, and though it was packed, our food came quickly. I'd love to come back and try more from here! read more

** sorry for the bad photos! After smelling the Annapurna Cafe from the Cap Hill Station everyday, I caved with a friend and finally decided to try it out! Was also having a tough day and this worked as the perfect comfort food. Overall We spent $30 (pre-tip) on Garlic Naan, Annapurna Curry, and Spinach Momos :) It was a steep price for sure, but the food was really good and stuffed both of us for dinner. Garlic Naan - pretty flavorful and perfect for dipping in curry! Spinach Momos -- got because others on Yelp recommended and I +1!! Honestly felt like an entree. They're really stuffed with filling and so yummy with the 3 different sauces included the all tasted so different. Annapurna Curry -- my friend loved this curry and I enjoyed it a lot, but wasn't my favorite. Enjoyed it a bunch and plan to come back again! read more

Mo' momos please. For $12, you get 6 juicy momos and flavorful dipping sauces. Also try their saffron-infused vodka based cocktails like the Hot Night in Kathmandu. Their sambar soup did not look like the sambar I'm used to. The Idli was decent / average. The food is as close to Nepali food as you can get. They have vegetarian and vegan options read more

This place is a must try in cap hill that is worth trying. Especially for someone who doesn't eat Indian or Nepalese food alot, I recommend. ENVIRONMENT(4/5): it is a packed place and they take no reservations. So highly recommend going 10-15 min advance. Waitress and waitress were nice and accommodating. The wait for 2 took 10 min on a Friday night at 7 PM Food (4.5/5): -mango Lassi (5/5) it was a good drink to try and was cold and refreshing! Very good combination for spices. - rose lassi (3/5). My friend got the drink and I tried it. It was good but wouldn't say it was my favorite since it left a dry taste after. I think that's how rose taste but not my biggest fan - momo (4/5) it taste like dumplings and the spices on the side is a must try for each! I liked the orange and yellow the most as it taste pretty good and was perfect. The green sauce was okay in my opinion. - calamari (4/5) it was good but wouldn't say it was crazy great. I liked the brownish sauce since it taste like barbecue sauce. - Annapurna curry(4/5). It was a good curry taste but will say it's spicy. The portion is kind of small tbh but got to try. I liked it as it had a rich curry flavor with a kick. Recommend trying since it's Nepalese inspired. Cost (4/5). Not as bad as I thought since my friend and I split and ended being around $39 per person. Of course not cheap but still awesomeo experience Location (5/5): in cap hill and in front of train station. Firstly, food here is amazing. We got there right at 4 when the doors were opening and were served immediately. The wait staff were all so attentive and checked in frequently. I had the mango dish which I loved but couldn't finish because the samosa tamarind dip was so good and the paneer naan bread was too good to stop eating. read more

We ordered for delivery via Caviar. It came on time, still hot, well packaged. Because it was our first time with this restaurant we tried several things... And OMG! Everything was delicious, flavorful, well spiced (good level of spices as asked). We took some Tibetan and Nepalese specialities and loved all of it! We will definitely order again! read more
