Unique dining serving Indian , Nepali and Tibetan cuisine, they serve dishes I've never seen anywhere else. I accidentally selected a very spicy dish and it was so good. We tried many different items- calamari pakora, lamb momo, Chana masala and Aloo Bodi Tama( which was the spicy one). This cozy Himalayan restaurant is primarily underground with equally cozy Himalayan/Indian dishes. It's reasonably priced with lots of vegetarian and vegan options, and everything is best to be shared family style. The garlic naan is a must and each order is one large piece that serves two. We tried a few different curry dishes-- my personal favorite was the Mater Paneer which was paneer cheese in a rich tomato sauce with peas. Every dish also comes with an order of rice and you can choose between white or brown. Their drink menu is quite large too with relatively affordable cocktails. I came here on a Thursday evening at about 7pm and was able to snag a table for two in their downstairs restaurant area without a wait. There is actually quite ample room downstairs for seating so make sure to check there if you're looking to grab a bite. I got a mango lassi as my drink which was super tasty. It's also a great way to cut the spice if your entree gets to you. I ended up getting the shrimp korma with a spice level of 2. It was delicious! Next time I'd definitely get a spice level 1 because the spice definitely hit me the more I ate. Thankfully the mango lassi helped me out in terms of spice! I came here during a work trip and was really hoping for it to be as hyped up as it was on Yelp. I ordered the lamb Himalayan curry and Tseng chicken mono. It was tasty but nothing that blew me away. My usual order: 2 plates of tensing momos This is pretty much the only thing I ordered here, there are Nepali momo. Annapurna makes the best momos in Seattle and definitely the place to go to! Recently I have had to do to go order because I don't believe they are open for dine in still (they haven't been the last few times I have called). Like usually nothing is as good at the restaurant but for a taken out meal I still really enjoyed the food. The one comment that I do have is that I think the sauce hasn't been very consistent? Some days I like the red sauce more and some days the red sauce is so bland that I like the peanut sauce more. I wish the sauces were a bit consistent becuase I really miss the original red sauce! There was even a day where I liked the green sauce only because the other two tasted so different! But maybe there are multiple cooks and I just love a certain cook? Annapurna Cafe was recommended by a co-worker, and I'm so glad I took them up on it. When I went dine-in was still unavailable, which was fine, however there seemed to be a bit of confusion/chaos with coordinating take out orders (so be prepared to wait). I went with their regular naan, the tofu veggie masala with brown rice, and the Tensing Momo. Everything was delicious, and kept warm even with a 20min drive home. The masala was packed with huge chunks of veggies (specifically cubed zucchini and tofu), not sure if they change the veggies in the masala but my order had: zucchini, mushrooms, carrots, cauliflower, and broccoli. The sauce is a creamy cashew base, which is slightly sweet and (to me) tasted almost like seafood (like a lobster bisque). The sauce, veggies, and tofu were so hearty that I'll definitely ask to not have rice the next time I order and instead will see if I can sub with more veggies. With the naan I was well on my way to a happy food coma. The Tensing Momo was originally what brought about my co-worker recommending Annapurna, and I can see why. The Tibetan style chicken dumpling was well cooked, and it didn't feel they skimped on packing the inside with chicken. The 3 sauces (peanut, sesame, and tomato chutney) was a nice variety of taste and spice. The sesame and tomato were my favorite, and I ended using both on each piece. The peanut sauce was a little overwhelming, and even a little bit felt like I was dipping it into a jar of peanut butter. Which, to be fair, could be delightful for anyone who's a huge peanut fan. Got the chicken vindaloo, a spicy tomato based curry with potatoes and protein. You can choose white or brown rice on the side, and I also ordered some garlic naan to mop up the remaining curry They warned me that some people cried eating it. It definitely got me workin up a sweat I ordered the banana shake as well (yogurt/banana drink) because it sounded interesting and I was curious. It was nothing mindblowing, but I'm glad I got it as it was able to bail me out of the spice a few times The food was good, albeit quite pricey (the dish it came out in was on the smaller side). There's also a service charge applied. I might be back to try the chicken tikka masala. They also gave a free appetizer: some fried crisps with what I believe was mint chutney? I've been wanting to try this place for almost a year now. First I love that you go down couple of set of stairs. The decor reminds me of being in Nepal - it's not contemporary, love that this place embraces its heritage even in the decor. We had chai - I liked it but it's a little on the sweeter side for me. I love that it's served in a clay cup. Papad were crispy and came with mint chutney. Aloo/mattar (potato and pea) paratha - different than traditional Punjabi parathas, smaller in size but still packed with flavor. Ample amount of butter and garlic was scintillating my tastebuds. Tensing momos - one order comes with 6 pieces. The flavor was well balanced, outside was just the right amount of chewy. It's served with 3 different chutneys - tamarind, tomato and sesame seed. Everyone loved it. The calamari + onion pakoras - this does not go with anything. The calamari pieces were too tiny and rubbery, it felt like you were biting into deep fried batter. The flavoring was good but it would be better to bite into something instead of air and batter. We were served by Luna, she did a great job of communicating, checking up on and just chatting. Definitely a place we'd be visiting again. Parking is street parking or 30min retain parking for the building. Give this place a try if you are in town !! read more

For being one of the only Indian / Nepalese places around here, i'm truly shocked at how many others rate this place somewhat positively! I went here with a few friends on a thursday evening and can hands down say it was one of my least favorite restaurants i've gone to in seattle. If you go during prime hours, you could wait for up to 40-60 minutes (even for take out!). I ordered a classic butter chicken, naan, mango lassi, and daal. For the hefty sticker on each dish (~$18-20), you would think you would be served large portions, but the bowl was probably smaller than a soup dish, and had 3-4 pieces of chicken for the whole bowl. I also know this wasn't just an oops on my dish as i've talked to other friends who also complain of the same thing - never enough protein offered in the dishes! The garlic naan was hard and crispy and not soft, very unsettling! Even when the food finally arrived, no one offered dinner plates and I had to ask 2 different waiters to get some for us (which took another 5 min) before we could actually eat. My friend asked for a custom cocktail but the bartender was not that knowledgeable despite the ingredients of her drink all being readily available behind the bar. Don't even bother with the lassi - it's poured out of some pre-bought gallon jug and blended with ice and yes I saw this with my own eyes! On top of all this, it all took 60+ minutes to get our food! I had to constantly keep asking if we were going to get our food or if we should cancel and leave after a long wait. I understand if the wait to sit down is 60 minutes, but getting our food should not take this long! Would NOT go back here. read more

Hands down a must go for Napal/ northern Indian food in Capital Hill. This place is legendary for decades and a diamond in the rough. A little sanctuary of curry and naan of many flavors. Very authentic and lots of different flavors you just can't get in other Indian restaurants. I love the coconut curry, tensing momo apps, aloo gobi and the garlic naan. I also tried a hot ginger honey drink that was very comforting. Flavor explosion are a regular on the menu and star ratings are variable so enjoy exploring the menu as we have for over 30 years. read more

My friend William brought me to this restaurant. I had to keep an open mind cause Indian cuisine isn't normally my cup of tea. Ordered two alcohol drinks Pina colada and banana one and it was good. The pita/naan bread was also really nice as well. The paneer and kofta we're well done. Seasoned just right without being over powering. A lot of Indian cuisine I sample to too over powering and leaves me with severe gastrointestinal distress. No food when eaten properly should do that. The waiter was also nice. While walking down Broadway, we decided to eat here because of the incredible smells coming from their doorway, and it certainly didn't disappoint! Their menu is really expansive, but we ordered: Tensing Momo: chicken momos with three chutneys. These were juicy and flavorful, and the chutneys were especially delicious! Annapurna Curry w/ goat: a spicy and comforting curry. So flavorful, would recommend if you haven't had Nepalese food before and can't decide what to get! Vegetable Kofta: paneer vegetable balls in a cashew sauce. My least favorite because I wished the kofta were crispier, though the sauce was good. Garlic Naan: a delicious side, nothing more to say! Prices are a tad on the expensive side, but portions are certainly filling and we had leftovers. We came on a weekend for dinner, and though it was packed, our food came quickly. A fairly good spot for Indian food with all of the classics -- I felt like the food was tasty but it didn't blow me out of the water. I got the Samosa, Matter Paneer with Naan, and Mango Lassi. The samosa was pretty good but the filling was seasoned differently to how I've tasted before -- this might be since it's a Nepali-Indian fusion place. Was also having a tough day and this worked as the perfect comfort food. Overall We spent $30 (pre-tip) on Garlic Naan, Annapurna Curry, and Spinach Momos :) It was a steep price for sure, but the food was really good and stuffed both of us for dinner. Garlic Naan - pretty flavorful and perfect for dipping in curry! Spinach Momos -- got because others on Yelp recommended and I +1!! Honestly felt like an entree. They're really stuffed with filling and so yummy with the 3 different sauces included the all tasted so different. This place is a must try in cap hill that is worth trying. Especially for someone who doesn't eat Indian or Nepalese food alot, I recommend. I think that's how rose taste but not my biggest fan - momo (4/5) it taste like dumplings and the spices on the side is a must try for each! I liked the orange and yellow the most as it taste pretty good and was perfect. The green sauce was okay in my opinion. - calamari (4/5) it was good but wouldn't say it was crazy great. I liked the brownish sauce since it taste like barbecue sauce. - Annapurna curry(4/5). It was a good curry taste but will say it's spicy. The portion is kind of small tbh but got to try. I liked it as it had a rich curry flavor with a kick. Recommend trying since it's Nepalese inspired. Cost (4/5). Didn't expect so much from a "hole in the wall"--but really tasty dishes, spices, and drinks! I didn't care for the "street corn drink", but all other drinks were delish! *vegan review* 4.5 out of 5 star. TELL YOUR SERVER if you have any dietary restrictions because the menu (both physical and online) was not accurate. I came here really wanting to try the Palak Tofu (which is palak paneer made with tofu instead of paneer to make it vegan) but the waitress said it was made with a dairy or cream sauce so I didn't order it. (Hubby who is more plant-based/vegetarian did still order it and REALLY liked it, so I was a little sad haha.) The waitress gave me her recommendations for what IS vegan on the menu and I still really enjoyed my food; we got the Himalayan Curry with tofu & vegetables, Dal Bhat, and of course the palak tofu, with lots of basmati rice, one garlic naan (not sure if that was vegan or not... lol), and a lager. We usually get 3 entrees when we go out because we eat a lot lol but we actually could have just gotten 2 entrees here, which is nice. I really liked the curry and dal bhat, and will definitely come back to this place to try more of the menu items. If anything I just wish that the menu was updated so that I could accurately see what is vegan or not. The ambience is really nice inside too! read more

What in tarnation is this?! You start your experience being seated by what appears to be annoyed high schoolers who'd rather be doing literally anything else. Surprise! There's an automatic 15% "service charge," which explains the attitude. They don't need to care! It's dark around the room, there is dim lighting and a candle on your extremely cramped corner table. You try to sit back a bit to make some space, but the chair won't budge because you're already up against the wall. You use the flashlight on your phone at some point to see what had been served. The food I received was an atrocity in my book, worse than much cheaper places I've been to. The cauliflower was undercooked and still very crunchy, and there was barely any flavor to anything except salt, salt, salt! After trying, and failing, to dilute some of the items with water to make it edible, I just gave up. A while after receiving our entrees we had also asked about our naan, to which annoyed high schooler #1 responded immediately "it's on the way" without checking. In the literal sense, this was true it was bound to come our way, but it wasn't until later an adult waiter checked in a while after that we actually received it. By then the other diner had been halfway done and I had mostly given up on trying with my order of vegetarian Khana. I'm not Nepalese, but I have a hard time believing this amount of salt and otherwise blandness is normal! Even accompanied with rice or naan, at a huge carb to entree ratio, it was just inedible. What a shame and insult to the Nepalese/Indian cuisine this is supposed to represent. read more

I was very surprised by how much I loved the Annapurna Curry - spooned over a plate of basmati rice. I'll definitely be back.
