I celebrated my birthday yesterday at Mint and Martini in Capitol Hill, and it turned out to be such a memorable experience! The place was super duper busy when we arrived, which honestly says a lot about how popular it is. Even though we had a reservation, we did have to wait about 45 minutes while standing. At first it felt like a long wait, but seeing how lively and packed the restaurant was made it understandable, they were clearly in high demand and getting busier by the minute. Despite the crowd, the staff remained incredibly kind and professional. You could tell they were a bit overworked that night, yet they still handled everything with patience and smiles. Once we were seated, the atmosphere immediately felt welcoming. The restaurant is really spacious and impressively clean, which I always appreciate, especially on a busy evening. Our server, Arjun, truly made the night special. He was very attentive, warm, and thoughtful throughout our visit. Even with so many tables to manage, he kept checking on us and made sure everything was perfect. Service like that makes a huge difference, and he definitely deserves recognition for going above and beyond. We ordered quite a variety of dishes and drinks, and every single item impressed us. The appetizers -- especially the fish pakora -- were absolutely amazing, crispy and full of flavor. We also tried Hakka noodles, chicken dishes, black dal, and a naan basket that had all different varieties, which was such a nice touch because we got to taste multiple flavors in one order. Everything came out surprisingly quick considering how busy it was, and the food tasted fresh and delicious. To finish, we had the chiku ice cream, which was unique and so good -- the perfect sweet ending to a birthday meal. The prices were very reasonable for the quality, portion sizes, and overall experience. Between the food, the atmosphere, and the service, it was honestly such a wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion. Overall: Even with the wait, I'd still give this place a full five stars without hesitation. We ordered Chicken Hakka Noodles, Chili Chicken, Goat Bhuna Masala, and Tandoori Roti. We ordered the Chicken Hakka Noodles and Chili Chicken on the recommendation of our server. Both dishes were okay. The Goat Bhuna masala too, was okay, we ordered spicy and our server confirmed with us that we wanted it spicy and both Chili Chicken and Goat Bhuna masala were not spicy. All the curries we ordered were sweet. Both the Malai Kofta and their "Special Methi Paneer" were the same and tasted more like a dessert. We requested them to be 4/5 spice but had no flavor The paneer tikka was spicier but still way too sweet. It was almost like they mixed barbecue sauce with this. We even ordered extra spicy. I had a reservation for eight people on a Tuesday at 7:30 PM. The restaurant wasn't crowded as expected only a few tables were occupied and we were seated within 10 minutes. The place is very upscale and quite spacious. We started with Veg. Hakka noodles and Chili Chicken. I liked the noodles; however, the chili chicken wasn't spicy at all, even after requesting a 5/5 spice level. That said, it was still a decent dish. Overall, the starters were better than the main course. For the mains, we ordered Malai Kofta and Desi-style Chicken. I was expecting a chicken curry, but it turned out to be chicken masala, which I wasn't a big fan of. The worst part of the experience was the service. We waited almost 40 minutes for our food, despite the restaurant not being busy. We had to check in with the server multiple times, and the only response we received was that the kitchen had a backlog. I really hope the restaurant improves its capacity planning, because even with just a few tables occupied, the wait time was excessive. If the place is packed, I can only imagine the wait being over an hour. Overall, the experience was average. Mint & Martini was a random stop while my partner and I were in Capitol Hill. I was absolutely stunned at how delicious everything was here. Butter chicken was creamy and well seasoned, only thing it was missing was spice despite me ordering a 3/5 spice level. My partner got some stir fry which was quite tasty, the naan was delicious, and the samosas were crispy on the outside and full of soft, well seasoned filling. I also had a well made cosmopolitan. The prices were reasonable and the service was good, but it was a bit of a wait for our food despite the restaurant not being busy. Ambiance is nice, it feels a bit more upscale than it lets on. This new Indian restaurant (open only 5-days as of the end of May-2025) has tasty food and a friendly staff. Located where Bario used to be, the interior space is inviting, even if parking in the neighborhood can be a challenge. We got the kurkuri bhindi (fried okra) -- it was good, though I would have preferred Bhindi Masala, had they had it. The chicken tikka tandoori was tasty with high-quality chicken and oh-so tender. The vegetable samosas were pretty standard and quite good, though I wish they'd come with more tamarind sauce (these kinds of kinks are expected in early days). And we got an order of plain nan. I was hoping for some basmati rice (particularly with the chicken tikka), but turns out that's not part of that dish. Next time, I'll order rice separately. It's a new restaurant, and I recommend it. I'll note that the reviewer who gave them one-star was rather unkind for restaurant newly opened - rather than a bad review, it might have been more appropriate to raise the issue with the manager and get it resolved. We were really excited to try this place. The inside set up is the same as when it was the Mexican spot, with the little private wooden walled circle booths. The food was just ok overall. The naan was good and we liked the chai, but our entrees were just alright. The rice seemed like more basic rice vs. the basmati rice some spots serve (which my partner and I prefer too). My palak paneer had a lot of stem fibers in it too and was kinda chunkier pieces than I was used to of the palak and not as much paneer as I would have hoped for. My partner had similar concerns about his chicken tikka dish. The other so so thing for us was the service. Our server never spoke to or looked at me once and only spoke to my husband, which struck us as awkward, even when he indicated that I would answer a question or checked with me from being seated to paying. It wasn't a terrible experience but I've had been food and service elsewhere so I probably wouldn't go back unless I was in the area and really wanted Indian food. New Indian place in Capitol Hill. Had lunch and since it just opened there weren't many other people. It's beautiful inside and so spacious! Great place for groups. I can imagine it being really busy at night once word gets out about this place. We lucked out with street parking right on 12th but there's also a public lot not far away too. Service was super attentive and they were great helping us with any questions. Items are on the pricier side but this is a really nice place. I just went with a friend and we had the Bread Basket, it's pretty big so we both only had a couple of pieces of naan and took home a stack. Naan is solid. Palaak Paneer, very good. Tandoori Chicken, smaller portion but excellent Hakka noodles with chicken, very good. And the Kurkuri Bhindi, deep fried okra. I'm not an okra fan but this was tasty. A lot of batter but that's what made it so good! Every dish was delicious. Dishes were spicy, I couldn't figure out which ones but even for someone who is not very spice tolerant I was able to handle it. We didn't say anything about spice level when we ordered so if you don't like spicy mention it when you order. We took home a lot of leftovers that will last me several days! Will never come here again. The food all came out long periods between each other and one of the dishes was oddly warm and cold in different spots like it was microwaved. One of the drinks was awful, and the server's response was very non-customer servicey (we work in the restaurant & customer service industries and were very polite) when we asked to send the drink back. The replacement drink didn't arrive until after we had finished with our meal. We were never checked on, even when they were dropping off the food. The quickest service we had was when we asked for the check. My partner and I are not unrealistic people, this place has just been one of our worst restaurant experiences in an area with great restaurants with great service. read more

Went to Mint & Martini twice in the last couple of months. First with one friend, and second, with a group of friends. The food (we ordered lots of different appetizers, naan, fish, and vegetable dishes as well as dessert) was consistently excellent--flavorful, fresh, and expertly cooked. (Approved by my friend who is Indian!) They have a full bar and serve both regular and NA cocktails. The service was attentive and pleasantly solicitous. The place was left largely the same as when it used to be Barrio, but with a modern Indian-motif colors and decor. I wish more people would discover this delightful restaurant. We went here at the end of July, 2025. The food was mediocre. I came because I saw their menu offered "Hyderabadi Dum Biryani". It wasn't biryani. The rice had clearly been cooked independently of the sauce and toppings. They didn't even bother to stir it all together. You expect a deep flavor in biryani from a slow cook time. This didn't have it. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't biryani and certainly not Hyderabadi biryani. At $19 an order, there's much better other places in town. The service was poor. Our waiter dropped off our food and didn't really come back until our meal was finished while we waited for more water. It's possible the other food is good, but I felt lied to by the menu.
