    Mango Lassi
    Evan Z.

Cafe Ashiana is a new restaurant that has opened in place of the corndog shop that used to be here. I ordered the beef chapli kabab plate, everything was super fresh and the portions were quite large. The beef was super flavorful with a combination of different Indian spices. The green sauce and yogurt sauce were fantastic for the beef and rice. The Mango lassi was also fantastic, definitely one of the best I've had in Seattle; it's quite small but it's also only $3 so definitely worth it. Also, I don't have a picture but the samosas are $2 each and are quite large and delicious. The shop is small and seems to be family owned; the guy running the kitchen is super nice and gave me fantastic recommendations. The interior is well lit but a bit small. 4.6/5

Wow I love this place so much. Everything is so thoughtfully made with love down to the mango lassi. Rice is bomb. I've tried the chicken and lamb dishes which were both so fantastic. The haleem was also so good. Come here. You won't regret it. Picture is half eaten because I couldn't help eating it first. Service is great. The owner is so nice. Chill vibes right next to Seattle central. Come here!

And it was just as delicious as I remembered! Every dish we ordered (Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka, Gobi Manchurian, garlic and rosemary naan and Hyderabadi biryani) was the best of its kind. The chicken was unbelievably juicy and the biryani was a flavor masterpiece. I was especially impressed that they offer 8 different biryanis! I could see how it would be good for groups. The one thing I did not like was that it was way too hot in the restaurant, like uncomfortably hot. They needed the AC on. Between 4 people, we ordered 2 appetizers, 4 entrees, and 2 orders of naan. The entrees each came with a small portion of rice as well. The portions were quite generous so we had leftovers (enough for 2 meals). My favorite was the dal makhani with garlic naan. It was lentil based so it was kind of like a bean dip in texture. I also loved the malai kofta with rice. These were little potato/paneer balls in a thicker gravy. We were not fans of the paneer tikka masala as it was too sweet. This gravy was much more liquid. These 3 dishes all had distinct flavors, which is what we were aiming for to have some variety! If I came back, the only thing I would skip would be the paneer tikka masala. We also ordered the falooda for dessert. It was big enough to share between the 4 of us. This was my first time trying this dessert, and it was very unique. I've never had vermicelli noodles in dessert before so that threw me off a little! There was a very strong saffron flavor. The service was pretty good and our food was served quickly.

Hey whatever, this was his second visit to Seattle, essentially my stance is do what you need to do. He called the restaurant a number of times to inquire about menu items over the course of his stay. Me, I would have just showed up with my feed me mindset. Finally, on 6/21/19 (yeah over a year ago) we finally ended up at the restaurant. Remember how Meg Ryan's character from When Harry Met Sally orders in a restaurant? Well here it played out in Urdu. Oh the brief and not so subtle visual and body language signals from the kitchen staff and our wait person. Just typing this now, I'm smirking and visuals fly by, lmao. It's rare for me to have someone order an entire meal without my input, but this was best to sit back and just wait and see. Eventually a variety of dishes start appearing, see attached photos. They were tasty but nothing overly remarkable compared my usual go to in Greenwood. The date shake was novel though. I still cannot believe the volume of food ordered. I remember just having a modest amount to be polite. The restaurant itself at the time went through an interior refresh. While seated, I observed a healthy traffic of takeout preCovid-19. And eventually towards, the end of this meal, additional customers came in to be seated. I frequent Capitol Hill, both preCovid-19 and during the pandemic restrictions. It is good to see they remain in business even after a year of me driving or walking past. Maybe, just maybe, I'll return and see what the big deal is about any of the bone-in goat entrees that wasn't available back then.

Well better late than never I guess as we finally made it here and simply loved the food! I got my favorite when it comes to Indian cuisine which was the Chicken Vindaloo. It was wonderful! Steve liked his dish as well (though I can't quite remember what it is)! We got some Garlic Naan to go along with our meal. It was huge! But we chowed it down and loved every moment of it! From the bar which I think is called the Yeti Bar we got some Saffron infused cocktails. The one I picked was the Madras. It wad very good and this type of vodka added a great, unique dimension to the cocktail. We loved it! We to finish off this great meal we got some dessert with some deep fried goodness along with some cream. Yes, we had a fantastic meal here and really went all out by trying everything. We were really hungry and decided to join them as I've had this spot saved too as the reviews were pretty positive. They were definitely very popular but we were put on the waitlist but I think it would be helpful if they took peoples' numbers as apparently they would just shout it outside. We weren't aware as we went somewhere else to wait as it was very cold. When we arrived, a different employee started cleaning a table for us and we waited but then the employee who did put us down was frustrated with us as he called us and no one of us answered cause we were elsewhere. We weren't sure if we had a spot after that but luckily the employee who was cleaning was done and offered that spot. They also did drop a glass cup after cleaning nearby which was concerning but they did clean it up right away. Once we were seated, it took almost a half an hour to get some to take our order. Luckily we did get our water refilled decently but there were a few times where our empty glasses were seen and ignored. I definitely think there should be staff training as it was non-existent. I understand being busy but you're across the convention center so it should be expected. The music was also so low I didn't know it was even on, they have a loud fan going on and even their TVs have no volume. It's a pretty awkward ambiance, especially with how they try to look like they are a upscale restaurant. It did take some time to get food and it seems like the kitchen was frustrated too as I heard the bell signaling food being ready several times. The food was actually good, especially for the price. The portions are generous. We never had paratha but our friend recommended it so we got the aloo paratha while my boyfriend got their butter masala and I got their tikka masala extra hot. It wasn't really spicy at all, definitely nothing like what I've had at other Indian restaurants. The curries were flavorful with good pieces of chicken. We might return if we need something nearby but there are definitely better options that I would walk for.

I found it mediocre and not particularly memorable, especially given the price. It also didn't hold up well as leftovers the next day. I couldn't even finish it. What bothered me most was that when the bill was brought over, a 22% tip had already been selected and highlighted before I signed. The waiter also hovered over me making it an uncomfortable experience, especially considering the level of service we received. Overall, this was a disappointing visit, and I do not plan to return ever.
