The smell of curry from Annapurna Cafe had drawn me out of the lightrail station and whatever this place served did not disappoint! I'm not sure if my friends and I were just straight up starving or what, but the plan to come here for food was originally turned down by yours truly. "Eh, I kinda dont feel like Nepalese/Indian food tonight..." And that was not what i said as we were heading up the escalator at the light rail station. We ended up ordering chicken momo, tikka masala, garlic naan, and a mix platter of shahi bhojan. Honestly, i dont know what is in the shahi bhojan. Perhaps some daal, sambar, pickled veggies, yogurt. Don't quote me on naming the specific plates for that. Surprisingly lighter than what I was expecting with these cuisines. The dishes were very flavorful and portions were decent for 3 girls. I dont recall having too many complaints other than I want to eat more but I couldn't. And the decor of this place was just absolutely adorable. Tables were close to each other, might be too close for the claustrophobes. They had colorful murals and paintings all around. I'd have to say we are addicted to this place. We order it at least once a week. This is Himalayan/Nepalese cuisine which is super interesting as you can really taste the regional influences as it has indian/pakistani as well as some chineese flavors to the dishes. Don't expect the same flavors as the normal Indian versions of these dishes (i.e. the Tikka masala). Their masalas have a sweeter note to them and a more subtle flavor profile. One other note, they use an amazing cashew cream instead of heavy cream (that most Indian places use) Some dishes that we order a lot - Momos - both the meat and spinach ones. Amazing steamed dumplings and they come with some great sauces including a delicious peanut sauce that i've never had anything like. - Chicken Masala - Cashew cream, and unlike chicken tikka masala which has grilled tandori chicken breast, this has a slow simmered chicken thigh which I really enjoy. - Mango Mazza - I've never seen a dish like this anywhere and ordered it on a whim one time. Its a vegetarian dish with lots of veggies and paneer cheese. Its slightly sweet with an amazing flavor and hard to describe. Try it! Went here on a busy night and was seated immediately. There is also more seating upstairs in the bar. The downstairs restaurant is super cozy with pretty decorations. We got a free appetizer which was yummy. The unique dishes and cups they use are sturdy and made of copper (and they sell them there too!). I got the Chicken Tikka Masala and it was sooo good. The food was inauthentic, we asked for 2/3 star spicy and it wasn't spicy. Multiple other people who sat after us were served bread and appetizers before us. We sat for 45 minutes waiting for appetizers before we were served our momos and they tasted like they were Trader Joe's microwaved. Never coming again. Omg so so good. My friend told me about this place and after eating here, I immediately came back that same week. I love Indian food, which this place has a lot of Indian influence, but it also has really unique dishes and flavors that I've never come across in Seattle. Highly recommend the tensing momos, garlic naan, Annapurna curry, and Lhasa curry. Everything is incredibly flavorful. The curries are savory, but almost have a hint of something sweet like cinnamon, VERY GOOD. Portion sizes are sized well enough for one person, but would recommend family style. What a great find! Right next to the light rail entrance at Capitol Hill. I had lamb rolls and a Tibetan style curry with chicken. I would describe this more as a Himalayan regional cuisine rather than Indian or Pakistani. Delicious. It does not appear to be open for lunch which was a disappointment. I believe it opens at 4 PM. But if it is open and I'm in the area then I will stop by to at least get the lamb spring rolls. Just a heads up, they were take out only whenever I went so I would call ahead and ask if you're looking to dine in! Overall, the food is delicious! I got the Lamb Kofta and Sha-mong soup. I really love the vegetarian dumplings in the soup and the Lamb meatballs were flavorful. They were pretty quick to come out with the food after ordering so it wasn't long of a wait. They have an AMAZING mango lassi. I highly recommend. The rose lassi on the other hand.. it's not my favorite and I wouldn't recommend. If you do happen to order it out of curiosity and don't like it, I found that mixing the mango and rose lassi tastes pretty frickin' amazing. I do wanna say that this place seems to be a bit pricier. Per recommendation of many friends, we decided to order Annapurna for delivery. We were generally underwhelmed and I don't understand how this is such a popular restaurant. The chicken tikka masala was outright sweet with barely any seasoning, the only good thing was the texture. The Annapurna Curry was incredibly fragrant, but somehow the fragrance did not translate into flavor. The dish was quite bland. The garlic naan was lacking on the garlic and was somehow both underbaked but burnt. I will say the portions were reasonable and packaged well for delivery. I've walked by this place so many times in the last few years and it always smells amazing. I had to try it so decided to come here one night to see what this place has to offer. The restaurant is downstairs in a basement like area and there were quite a good amount of people here but no wait. We ordered the momas, garlic naan, annapurna curry and the chicken tikki masala. The wait staff was very attentive and got us what we needed quickly. The momas were pretty good where the green and red sauce they brought out with it paired well. So far so good. The tikki masala was a bit on the sweet side. I'm not sure if it is the style but I felt like they may have accidentally put too much sugar? Either way, wasn't a fan of this. The annapurna curry was a bit watery as well and almost seemed more like a soup than a curry. Preferred this over the tikkia masala but once again, seems like something I wouldn't order again. After smelling the delicious odors wafting through Annapurna's section of Capitol Hill for months, I finally made time to go inside and have dinner! The ambiance is lovely (restaurant is underground, dimly lit, tons of family and Nepali cultural decorations on the walls, pretty crowded-in-a-cozy-way on the weekend) and the food lived up to the hype. I ordered the garlic naan, which was a little too garlicky for my personal preference but generously portioned and served hot, as well as the mattar paneer for my main dish. This was creamy, flavorful, and had just the right amount of spice. I would definitely order it again. The downside to Annapurna is the price, which is pretty steep for the quantity of entree that you receive. I was able to have some leftovers because of filling up with the naan, but if I had shared the naan with someone else I think I would have finished my whole main dish. Service was very polite but a bit slow, but since I was enjoying the evening with friends I didn't mind the long waits for food or the check. If your budget fits, then I imagine takeout from here would alleviate any of those slow-service-related concerns. read more

I got take-out that arrived rather promptly. They are not far away. I got a cucumber salad, Nepalese Curry and a roti. Had to add some dressing to the salad. The curry was suppose to be medium spicy but it was rather bland. I added some Calabrian pepper flakes that helped a lot. I should have added some curry powder too. I got brown rice that was good. The roti was over cooked, burned mainly around the edges.It was an okay meal. Would order a higher level of spice, they only have three levels. Probably try the naan next time. Went with a group of 10 for dinner on a Thursday night and were seated after some tables in the back were quickly rearranged to accommodate us. This place is dimly lit, but the service was fast and the waiters/waitresses are attentive. They have interesting metal goblets for water (and they're fun to spin around)! A friend and I split the chicken momo (comes with 6) as an app, which came with 3 sauces: red = smoky and a little spicy; yellow = sweet peanut sauce; green = fresh and spicy. Eat with your hands, and dip them in the different sauces until you find a balance that caters to your heart and stomach's content. The chicken tikka masala was creamy, and has nice sweet and spicy undertones. It comes with rice (white or brown), and we ordered a garlic naan (enough for two) to go with it. One friend got the mussels (it's gains season), which I thought were fairly good. They were cooked scampi style, with wine, maybe? It was in tasty broth, which was especially good when sopped up by some naan. I didn't get the mango lassi, but a few people at the table ordered them, and said they were delicious. Annapurna is one of my favorite spots to take my friends when I want to impress them with local fare. Any of the curries are impressive, and the daily specials are normally interesting enough for future visits! My friend had the Thakpur noodle dish and was shy and said nothing about it. I tasted it and it happened to be quite watery. When I brought it up yo the host, he fixed the problem quickly and found the root of the issue in the kitchen after it was sent back. They don't take reservations here- you have to write your name and then go wait at the bar. Pretty smart, if you ask me (for their business). The first drink I got was terrible. Oh my gosh. It was salty and bitter and sour.... I would never order it again. But I think it's a traditional drink that Nepalese or Indian locals would enjoy, and it's something other people wouldn't be used to. My second drink, the mango mojito, was pretty sweet. Much more to my palate. The memo appetizers were good. So were the deep fried peppers. I don't remember what they were filled with. The sauces that the momos came with were pretty good. Khasi ko masu was our main dish- we ordered the one with other side dishes as well. Next time, I think I would just order the Khasi ko masu by itself with some naan. We came at the dinner rush on a Saturday night. We put our name down downstairs and headed up to the Yeti Bar to wait. I ordered the lali gurus which had a very strong lynchee taste. We paid and then our server asked if we just wanted to eat up in the Yeti Bar, so they moved us from the bar to a table and brought up menus from Annapurna. I ordered the garlic naan and the tensing momo. Everything came out fairly quickly and was presented on beautiful dishes. The garlic naan was perfect and not too garlicky. The tensing momo was so yummy and I liked the sesame sauce and peanut sauce the best. Once we were brought our food, our server did not check on us for a while, and we needed more water and another round of drinks. I also visited the bathroom, which was very different from the rest of the restaurant. It seems like it's shared with a neighboring restaurant. The women's restroom was dirty, run down, smelly, the soap dispenser didn't work but the top was taken off so you could "dip" your fingers in. This is our go-to Indian / Himalayan place in Seattle. We typically get take out but the indoor dining (outside of covid times) is excellent too. For appetizers, the Tensing momo's are the way to go! so delicious. and the sauce makes this a perfect starter. the pakoras a great as well. do not forget the garlic naan! for mains, the annapurna curry is a staple. I'm always happy and pleased with their mix of flavors. Lassa and Goa curries were good as well but the annapurna is always my favorite. lamb saag and Spicy Lamb Vindaloo are some of my other favorites as well! Love the food at this place, lots of traditional nepali dishes. Feels like home cooked food. We had the tensing momos, kheema naan, and nepali meal. Tensing momos come with sesame, peanut and tomato chutney. Nepali meal(dont remember the name on the menu, dal bhat ...) includes dal bhat, goat curry, spinach salad, tomato pickle, and your pick of basmati and brown rice. Since it is located in Cap Hill, you can explore the nearby places while you wait or go to the bar upstairs to get some drinks. The ambiance of the place is great since it has a lot of decorations and mood lighting that makes it a great place to take a date. There is a lot of different food options, that I was unsure of. Although I didn't know what the food items were, through the help of Google and our Waiter, we were able to order some different dishes to try.
