We had been meaning to try Annapurna for ages. The incredible spice aroma bombarding us each time we take the broadway/denny exit out of the station, we knew we needed to finally try out this capitol hill staple. I'm glad to say it did not disappoint in the slightest. We were seated quickly. The ambience in the basement seating area is super cool. The Himalayan/Nepalese decorating is distinct and enjoyable. The service throughout dinner was very fast and attentive. All of the food was unique and delicious. I couldn't help but take a picture of the humorous sign in the bathroom - FYI, they sell their copperware. One thing to note: they add a 15% service charge to the bill and do not expect additional tipping. I get that this sort of practice is controversial. I agree with the idea that businesses should be up front with pricing and adjust menu prices instead of adding charges at the end. I think it helps that I was aware of this charge going into the meal. I'm not a big fan of this practice overall, but I can't let it stop me from eating at otherwise great establishments like Annapurna. Looking forward to adding Annapurna to our regulars.
Annapurna was incredible! The food was delicious, the ambience was just right for our small get together, and we had a lovely time. One brief caveat before I rave about the food--the intake process is highly unorganized. I asked the first individual I saw about our reservation and he just told us it's "on the other side". Okay, where? We go across the hall and down and someone greets us, then asks if we want a table. I remind them about our reservation and they are unsure if they can seat us. Then as the woman who is helping us is grabbing menus, another man comes and asks us if we want a table... they are just not coordinated. They ended up seating us at a far away corner of the restaurant and at some point the man came to us and said "look you're over here away from everyone! Don't you love it??" Weird. Okay but onto the food. The momos (we got 3-4 different kinds) were all absolutely fantastic. we also ordered a few curries and went with the medium spice level which I think was right for a table that claimed to be able to handle a bit of spice but in reality can't handle too much. Personally I would have gone spicier. I ordered a chai and it was heavenly! So flavorful but it didn't end up conflicting with my sleep so that was great. The recommendations from the server were all excellent and every dish was loved by the table which leads me to believe it's hard to go wrong here. Ultimately after we were seated everything was conducive to an enjoyable time--great company, great food, and nice ambience that struck the balance between bringing the food at a reasonable pace but also giving us space to enjoy ourselves.
Went late on a Sunday night with 4 people and we were seated immediately. The food was very flavorful, and my friend who is pescatarian was well accommodated for. The garlic naan was so good, I wish we had gotten two. I'd definitely come back to try more of the menu.
Solid Indian foods that I had in Seattle. Went here for my friend's bday (she loves Indian foods and doesn't eat meat, but I do). We sat down in the basement but it's alley cause the services here are great and it makes up for the lacking of sunlights and the street views. We order bunch of dishes (non meat of course) but I managed to order a lamp curry dish...man it was delish - of course the others too since we finished them all. Love this place.
We weren't sure where we were going on Broadway and decided to pop into Annapurna. I've walked by it forever (in relative terms - it's older than my daughter who I brought with me). We were seated immediately in the Yeti Bar (it was only 4:45) and supplied with excellent pappadum. We ordered the lamb kothay momo to start with. We followed that with sekuwa, garlic naan, and one of the classic combos (I missed the name but it has a chicken curry). The momo came out very quickly and were fantastic. We loved them plain and with the various sauces. The lamb was so tender and flavorful. The chicken curry was fantastic (we ordered 2/3 spicy stars). We loved all of the sides. I can't believe it's taken so long to stop by and try it. Our service was very friendly and the food was great. If you're in town try Annapurna.
Wow, what an incredible meal! We were overdue for a date night, and decided to hit a bar before Annapurna. Walking into the hallway decorated with lanterns and twinkling lights helped you immerse into the transformative dining experience. We got a table during a busy Saturday night. We lucked out on a 4top for 2ppl! We needed space for dishes. We went a little overboard on apps. If we should have passed on anything, it would have been the calamari. We love chickpeas, but the breading wasn't doing it for us. The tensing momo was above and beyond!! I also adored the crispy rolls. We decided on chicken tikka masala and annapurna curry with lamb. AMAZING! Combine them both if you're daring. It's hard not to keep dipping, and the naan was soft on inside and crispy on outside. Service was quick! Our copper glasses stayed full. Will be back!
I've been here for take out and dine in multiple times, and I've enjoyed my experience every time. This has been one of my favorite restaurants since I was in high school.
This was my first visit to this restaurant. We ordered jaljeera, spinach momos, paneer chili momos, pani puri, malai kofta, and naan. The ambiance is cozy and comfortable. My favorites were the pani puri and momos, which were amazing. However, the jaljeera lacked the authentic flavor and was too mild. The malai kofta was too sweet, had insufficient gravy, and the kofta were a bit hard. The naan was just okay--slightly cold and a bit stiff. I would definitely recommend this place for the momos!
Solid nepalese and south asian place with dark lighting and the best mango lassi nearby. The Chicken Tikka Masala was well seasoned and adequately creamy but the chicken was a bit tough.
I wanted to love Annapurna Cafe after a mishap nearby with a restaurant not being open, but sadly it was just an okay experience food-wise. The restaurant specializes in Indian, Nepalese, and Tibetan cuisine from the mountainous regions. While I usually go some apps and a curry, the selection of Tibetan dishes definitely intrigued me so I differed from my usual orders... and that was probably a slight mistake on my end. We tried their Annapurna Curry with Tofu, the Tibetan Vegetable Thukpa soup, and a Stuffed Paratha. The curry felt very watery and unflavored to the point of it being almost too bland. Paratha was flaky but also bland to us. The thukpa was probably the biggest disappointment. It tasted like a bland vegetable soup that you could throw together at home so I regretted not going for another type of daal or curry. I also noticed their menu was confusing when it came to labeling what was vegetarian or vegan. They'd go back and forth either listing an item as 'vegan' or using a symbol, or not at all on items I was confident would be vegan friendly. While the food was bland, I did find the ambiance quite nice with the restaurant being on a lower level and the staff creating quite the mood lighting for us. Perhaps these dishes were just misses on our end and they have other great items to try. Hopefully if you come, you'll have a better food experience than we did.
The first thing I noticed was how yummy the smell was when I entered. The food lived up to the smell. I had the Samay Baji with chicken. I didn't know what wa all on it but each item was full of flavor and tasty. I love trying new foods and I was big disappointed.
Second time wasn't as impressive as my first time, but it's so cheap that I didn't mind it. The paleek/saag paneer (4.5/5 stars) and the naan (4/5 stars) were the only dishes I was super impressed with.

So so so good. This is true Nepalese food. A trip to the Himalayas fully catered by a team of living sherpas. Don't miss out. Get the mango mazza phenomenal. read more

Omg so so good. My friend told me about this place and after eating here, I immediately came back that same week. I love Indian food, which this place has a lot of Indian influence, but it also has really unique dishes and flavors that I've never come across in Seattle. Highly recommend the tensing momos, garlic naan, Annapurna curry, and Lhasa curry. Everything is incredibly flavorful. The curries are savory, but almost have a hint of something sweet like cinnamon, VERY GOOD. Portion sizes are sized well enough for one person, but would recommend family style. However, be warned that you will leave wreaking of the restaurant so don't wear something you need to dry clean. Literally. But that's not the worst thing. Just go. You won't regret it! read more
Just a heads up, they were take out only whenever I went so I would call ahead and ask if you're looking to dine in! Overall, the food is delicious! I got the Lamb Kofta and Sha-mong soup. I really love the vegetarian dumplings in the soup and the Lamb meatballs were flavorful. They were pretty quick to come out with the food after ordering so it wasn't long of a wait. They have an AMAZING mango lassi. I highly recommend. The rose lassi on the other hand.. it's not my favorite and I wouldn't recommend. If you do happen to order it out of curiosity and don't like it, I found that mixing the mango and rose lassi tastes pretty frickin' amazing. I do wanna say that this place seems to be a bit pricier. I paid around $30~ for Lamb Kofta, Sha-mong soup, and a mango lassi. Just check out the menu beforehand! read more

Went here on a busy night and was seated immediately. There is also more seating upstairs in the bar. The downstairs restaurant is super cozy with pretty decorations. We got a free appetizer which was yummy. The unique dishes and cups they use are sturdy and made of copper (and they sell them there too!). I got the Chicken Tikka Masala and it was sooo good. Not too spicy but filled with so much flavor. Also got a massive naan garlic bread. Super reasonable prices and super tasty. Will come here forever! read more

The food here was quite good, so was the atmosphere. A bit cramped but very nicely decorated and a great crowd - all ages and genders. Service was friendly but quite slow to follow up on requests. Enough so to take it from five to four stars. I had to ask several times to get a plastic bag so I could carry my leftovers out. read more

Got a double order of the Tensing Momo (tibetan chicken dumplings) to go - they were pretty good. A little on the pricy side, but tasty and the accompanying chutneys/dipping sauces were fun and flavorful. All in all, seemed like a solid spot. read more
I've walked by this place so many times in the last few years and it always smells amazing. I had to try it so decided to come here one night to see what this place has to offer. The restaurant is downstairs in a basement like area and there were quite a good amount of people here but no wait. We ordered the momas, garlic naan, annapurna curry and the chicken tikki masala. The wait staff was very attentive and got us what we needed quickly. The momas were pretty good where the green and red sauce they brought out with it paired well. So far so good. The tikki masala was a bit on the sweet side. I'm not sure if it is the style but I felt like they may have accidentally put too much sugar? Either way, wasn't a fan of this. The annapurna curry was a bit watery as well and almost seemed more like a soup than a curry. Preferred this over the tikkia masala but once again, seems like something I wouldn't order again. The restaurant itself seemed a bit suffocating as it is down stairs where the lighting is dim (I guess on the romantic side?) so unfortunately that was a bit of a struggle for me to want to even stay much longer as I needed to get out to get some fresh air. read more
After smelling the delicious odors wafting through Annapurna's section of Capitol Hill for months, I finally made time to go inside and have dinner! The ambiance is lovely (restaurant is underground, dimly lit, tons of family and Nepali cultural decorations on the walls, pretty crowded-in-a-cozy-way on the weekend) and the food lived up to the hype. I ordered the garlic naan, which was a little too garlicky for my personal preference but generously portioned and served hot, as well as the mattar paneer for my main dish. This was creamy, flavorful, and had just the right amount of spice. I would definitely order it again. The downside to Annapurna is the price, which is pretty steep for the quantity of entree that you receive. I was able to have some leftovers because of filling up with the naan, but if I had shared the naan with someone else I think I would have finished my whole main dish. Service was very polite but a bit slow, but since I was enjoying the evening with friends I didn't mind the long waits for food or the check. If your budget fits, then I imagine takeout from here would alleviate any of those slow-service-related concerns. read more

Disappointed! I might be the only one here giving it below Average ratings. I had my hopes raised too high looking at their ratings. Starting on a good note - Service was pleasant and fast. Decor is very hip, eclectic with a lot of authentic Himalayan vibes. Lots of veggie options, Their garlic nan and roti was very good. But that's about it. Rest all the items were bland and boring even though we ordered the highest spice level. Momos were just meh. Chicken in the curry was rubbery. I'm no expert with Tibetan or Himalayan cuisine, but as an Indian I can claim this is definitely not Indian food. From my perspective, The dishes are tailored and toned down for western palate. It's more about the ambience and vibe than the food. read more
Went with a group of 10 for dinner on a Thursday night and were seated after some tables in the back were quickly rearranged to accommodate us. This place is dimly lit, but the service was fast and the waiters/waitresses are attentive. They have interesting metal goblets for water (and they're fun to spin around)! A friend and I split the chicken momo (comes with 6) as an app, which came with 3 sauces: red = smoky and a little spicy; yellow = sweet peanut sauce; green = fresh and spicy. Eat with your hands, and dip them in the different sauces until you find a balance that caters to your heart and stomach's content. The chicken tikka masala was creamy, and has nice sweet and spicy undertones. It comes with rice (white or brown), and we ordered a garlic naan (enough for two) to go with it. One friend got the mussels (it's gains season), which I thought were fairly good. They were cooked scampi style, with wine, maybe? It was in tasty broth, which was especially good when sopped up by some naan. I didn't get the mango lassi, but a few people at the table ordered them, and said they were delicious. A majority of their dishes are Indian, but there is a section on the menu of Himalayan/Nepalese style. Their drink menu looked good, but perhaps another time! Definitely a high-quality place for Indian and Himalayan/Nepalese food in Seattle. read more

I got take-out that arrived rather promptly. They are not far away. I got a cucumber salad, Nepalese Curry and a roti. Had to add some dressing to the salad. The curry was suppose to be medium spicy but it was rather bland. I added some Calabrian pepper flakes that helped a lot. I should have added some curry powder too. I got brown rice that was good. The roti was over cooked, burned mainly around the edges.It was an okay meal. Would order a higher level of spice, they only have three levels. Probably try the naan next time. I have been to this place before but it was a while ago. read more

Annapurna is one of my favorite spots to take my friends when I want to impress them with local fare. Any of the curries are impressive, and the daily specials are normally interesting enough for future visits! My friend had the Thakpur noodle dish and was shy and said nothing about it. I tasted it and it happened to be quite watery. When I brought it up yo the host, he fixed the problem quickly and found the root of the issue in the kitchen after it was sent back. I'm very thankful always having a nice experience at this restaurant, as the staff is always friendly, warm, and accommodating! read more

They don't take reservations here- you have to write your name and then go wait at the bar. Pretty smart, if you ask me (for their business). The first drink I got was terrible. Oh my gosh. It was salty and bitter and sour.... I would never order it again. But I think it's a traditional drink that Nepalese or Indian locals would enjoy, and it's something other people wouldn't be used to. My second drink, the mango mojito, was pretty sweet. Much more to my palate. The memo appetizers were good. So were the deep fried peppers. I don't remember what they were filled with. The sauces that the momos came with were pretty good. Khasi ko masu was our main dish- we ordered the one with other side dishes as well. Next time, I think I would just order the Khasi ko masu by itself with some naan. The side dishes were just "eh" in my opinion. I liked our meal. My boyfriend barely ate though. Maybe we just didn't order the right things. Tl;dr: order a safe cocktail/martini if you're not used to Nepalese traditional drinks; don't order the khasi ko masu with side dishes; the sauces were good. read more
We came at the dinner rush on a Saturday night. We put our name down downstairs and headed up to the Yeti Bar to wait. I ordered the lali gurus which had a very strong lynchee taste. We paid and then our server asked if we just wanted to eat up in the Yeti Bar, so they moved us from the bar to a table and brought up menus from Annapurna. I ordered the garlic naan and the tensing momo. Everything came out fairly quickly and was presented on beautiful dishes. The garlic naan was perfect and not too garlicky. The tensing momo was so yummy and I liked the sesame sauce and peanut sauce the best. Once we were brought our food, our server did not check on us for a while, and we needed more water and another round of drinks. I also visited the bathroom, which was very different from the rest of the restaurant. It seems like it's shared with a neighboring restaurant. The women's restroom was dirty, run down, smelly, the soap dispenser didn't work but the top was taken off so you could "dip" your fingers in. Overall, the food was fantastic, it's very convenient to the light rail station, and the atmosphere is unique! The bathrooms need some work. read more

During the last 7-8 years I've lived in Seattle, I have always walked by Annapurna. That all changed today when my friend was in the mood for some Indian food for lunch. I was about to suggest to hit up Pabla but remembered about this place. So we both decided we might as well try this place. I really like the ambiance of the place. When you walk down the stairs, you can either take a right into the main dining area or a left into a lounge-like place with candles. The candles were not lit at the time but they were a nice touch to the area. We split the tandoori sampler and the butter chicken lunch specials. Each dish came with the soup of the day and basmati rice. The soup we had was a bean and lentil soup which was light and pretty tasty. My friend and I enjoyed all of our dishes. I'm not sure what it is about their butter chicken but the sauce is so delicious! read more
We were looking for a good Indian place to try and decided on this place due to prior reviews. Had a paneer curry, himalayan curry and naan garlic bread. We will definitely be back to try more of the Napoli food especially the MOMOs. read more
I would definitely recommend Annapurna! There are always pros and cons to any place, but at least you can try out some deliciously flavored Indian, Nepalese, and Himalayan food. The following yummy eats I would try again: --Spinach Momo: Momo what, you say?! (6) Spinach steamed dumplings that were oh so tasty. The peanut dipping sauce was bomb-diggity. --Chicken Tikka Masala: Creamy and moist chicken that went well over basmati rice. --Spicy Lamb Vindaloo: tender lamb but pretty spicy, so I recommend asking them to make the heat a level 2 or below (unless you like it very hot). **Note: We also tried the samosas and the garlic naan, which were solid sides. The mint chutney that came with the samosa was bright and fresh. **Some Cons: -Pretty small portions and bowls -The area can be a bit sketchy depending on the time of day (Well, it is Broadway in Capital Hill afterall). We had a strange guy call out to us on the street on our way in. **Overall Pros: -Yummy food with some nice heat and spice (if you dare!) -Attentive customer service -The place is located underground, making it feel like a hidden gem read more
