By far some of the best food I've ever had. We went for an anniversary and there was a card congratulating us on the table. The inside is amazing and gorgeous. Our server was so knowledgeable and knew the menu inside and out. We started with the 3 way mezza and absolutely devoured it. I was a little weary of getting meat manoushe as it had a mix of lamb and other meats but there was not gamey taste and it was nice and savory. The foutush salad was very refreshing and felt light with all the other heavy things we were eating. This place is a love letter to Middle Eastern food: proudly Palestine with some Syrian and other countries represented. This restaurant a testament of keeping tradition alive in how food is prepared while pushing flavor boundaries. Halal carts, zankou, raffi's, and the like serve their purpose in more accessible eateries at various price points, but Ammatoli is an elevated offering in the market. Ammatoli has received its much deserved flowers for its innovation and attention to detail. The sea bass is excellent, the various dips are packed with flavor, and the kebabs are cooked to perfection. The reviews here sorely lack any mention of their desserts. Try the umm ali: it transported my parents back to their childhood in India eating desserts like kheer. For my coffee lovers, the Turkish coffee is a must try. My only qualms are there are moments it feels like the restaurant will nickle and dime you: charges for extra sauces and appetizers don't come with pita. However this place is a rightful splurge. Parking is free for 2 hours and service is impeccable. The ambiance is lovely with an Instagram worthy interior that the food outshines. I will also end on a possible controversial note, but remember food is political and there is something very much inspiring in places like Ammatoli for being a beautiful repertoire of its roots and unapologetically Palestinian. First of all, I apologize but I don't remember the exact name of the dishes but here's what we tried: We tried the appetizer sampler and chose the spicy hummus, roasted eggplant dip, and falafel. We added on house made pita bread (a must) and wine. The appetizers were filling enough for two people. We also ordered the half rotisserie chicken. We were told it was a chef special and it did not disappoint. The dish came with pita bread and had flavors of toasted almonds and pine nuts. For dessert we tried the pistachio baklava and added ice cream. We also ordered Turkish coffee and mixed in some of the ice cream to make our own affogato. I really wanted to say I had a good experience here but it was a bit of a mess. It was my partner's birthday dinner and while I know it's not the establishment's fault, I want to warn others not to dine in the outdoor seating area here after dark in the summer. The area has giant water bugs crawling out of the gutter in large swarms. I had about 10-15 roaches crawling around my feet and unfortunately all over my dog who I had brought out with me. I saw one of them climbing up the chair legs at another table. Again, not the restaurant's fault, but it definitely did put a damper on what was supposed to be a celebratory night. Appetizers were good and came out quickly, my favorite being the spinach kibbeh, but the entrees were pretty disappointing. For the price point, I wouldn't get them again. My partner thought the chicken was dry. They did look a bit simple/homestyle and uncreative to me as well, but I did like the spiced freekeh and vermicelli rice. I visited this adorable Mediterranean restaurant on Friday, and I'm so glad my friend introduced me to it! The staff was absolutely amazing warm, welcoming, and so attentive. The ambience is super cute, cozy, and definitely adds to the whole experience. Let's talk about the food... WOW. The fresh pita and hummus were honestly some of the best I've ever had...soft, warm, and incredibly flavorful. I also tried the little crispy pastry filled with spinach and cheese (I can't remember the name, but you'll know it when you see it!) and it was delicious. For my entrée, I went with the moussaka. It was good....though I might be spoiled by my mother's recipe..:so it didn't quite hit that top-tier level for me, but still enjoyable overall. One tip: definitely make a reservation! Update for my reviews: It's been over a year since we have been back to Ammatoli (or Long Beach). We have always made it a point to dine at least one night when visiting, since this has been a top restaurant of ours for years. This time we brought a couple family members to share in our love of this place. We found out that our favorite server has moved on to greater career opportunities, so was bummed to hear that. The Moussaka has been a favorite forever as it was truly the best around. This time, it was undercooked and 'chewy' which was a real disappointment, and I was sad for that. The other family members (there were 5 of us total) seemed to enjoy their meals, but were not 'wowed' as we have been in the past. Our server tried to impress me by giving me a 'heavy pour' of my wine, as he put it. But, the bottom 1/4 of the glass was undrinkable due to the excessive sediment. Prices have increased, as have the costs of everything, so I wasn't too surprised. What dismayed me, was the 'upcharging' on simple items, such as 'still' water for the table, it is actually bottled water at $8 each. In the past it was simple tap ice water at no charge. Also, at the end of the meal, there is an automatic 22% gratuity added to the bill, and at the bottom you can add yet MORE tip... THIS I did not like at all! Let the customer determine the tip, don't just add it to the bill. I think it's time for us to move on to other opportunities. read more

Had the opportunity to try this spot out while I was in town for a conference. A little apprehensive at first to make a reservation that required a CC to avoid no shows, but it worked out and I understand the reasoning behind it. We were instantly greeted and were able to learn how the restaurant was created and the background of the chef. The menu is meant for sharing and comes as individual plates. We ordered the Chicken and Kafta Skewers, Greek Salad, three way Meza with spicy hummus, eggplant, and grape leaves, along with some pita. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared paying attention to detail and flavorful. The skewers were moist and not overcooked. The Greek salad was perfectly dressed making it fresh and light. Street parking was limited but there's a parking garage (first 90 mins free) nearby so parking was also quite smooth. Listen, the restaurant is lovely, simple with a relaxing yet lovely energy. Most likely due to the lighting at night (which is when we came for our reservations). Our server was also welcoming although bamboozling lol I'll explain later. I'll be honest though it could have been my fault for not clarifying. As for the food, we ended up getting the kabobs plate which had a couple of choices of meats. We also tried the bread and olives plate for appetizers. I know it's not the same but in my honest opinion for the price point I could equally enjoy the same if not better at Raffi's, zankou, and heck PKG. now back to the misunderstanding, when I asked the server about a cup of tea he described that they had a Jordanian tea that comes as a tea set with a kettle and all. Ammatoli was such a treat! We went earlier this week as an early bday celebration and it did not disappoint. Our favorite mezzas were the spicy hummus and the muttabal (eggplant). The pita was wonderful and served pipping hot with each order. I found it odd that they didn't include any pita with the 3 way or 6 way mezzas or any of the individual mezzas though. We also really enjoyed all the kebabs that we tried. My favorites were the chicken and lamb chops. Again it was strange that the meat was served with no sides though. It seemed like they were nickel and diming you for little things (pita, rice, a small side) vs just including it since the prices are already pretty high. Overall the ambiance, food, and service was great and we really enjoyed our meal. Parking tip: Park in the lot next to Ross if you can't find a spot on the street. Unfortunately the restaurant isn't in the best area of Long Beach. Ammatoli does not make sense, not that it needs to. It's Greek, Turkish, Syrian, Jordanian, and a bunch of other cultural influences that I can't make out. You would come to Ammatoli, first, for its ambience and its convenience. There's a huge and cheap parking garage (Lot C) almost next to it, and the space is high-ceilinged and light and genteel. I devoured the kebab more quickly than I should; it was umami all day long. The baklava wrapped up the meal prettily. I mentioned to the waiter that I wanted the wine I had ordered with the meal, and the poor fellow apologized and ran off and got it. I downright felt guilty for how gracious our waiter was. I don't think you could hire more gracious staff anywhere. The restaurant is not necessarily a steal for the food quality provided; the service warrants the price in full. Ammatoli is not the most romantic restaurant on the planet, but it's absolutely the place to bring your adventurous out-of-town relatives. You can't get this food in Dubuque. read more

An amazingggg experience! I was told about this place from the owner of the Attic and I was so glad I had the opportunity to check it out before I left. The service was incredible- super warm, lots of helpful suggestions, and timely check ins. Everything I ate was top notch.
