Been sick/hospitalized for nearly one year, but my memories of Amigos, especially the bar area with Lalo and crew, will always bring a smile to my face. It's very much like a Latino version of "Cheers" where they greet you by name, get to know you, and sometimes take care of you when you've had too much. The adjacent restaurant is great, too. Sunday, November 19th,well, I've been a bit wobbly and tired as of late. But I haven't really been hungry for the past few weeks. I'm racing through the litany of options in my head, and I landed on AMIGOS of Pasadena. Obviously, I had to stick with chicken enchiladas dinner. As usual, I'm fearful that I would end up with carpal tunnel just from carrying the iconic brown paper shopping bag inside the house. Lol quite honestly, you will feel the burn just by carrying your takeout items inside your home. It's just THAT heavy... lol I carry my takeout into the kitchen and begin to unpack the order. I have such an overwhelmingly amount of food in just my order it might last me a few days. OMG, AMIGOS hand crafts the most spectacular cuisine! Now, if you have been following me you know that my goto has always been Kathy's eatery up on north lake but the flavors are distinctively different but both amazing! I offer anyone reading my review this challenge! The food here is very good and the Cadillac margaritas even better well that's if you like your margaritas STRONG! Lol. They do sell them by the pitcher as well, good thing we were able to walk to our hotel to get there! We had gone to watch the Super Bowl game but the TV was a bit small so we ordered food which was super good and the chips and salsa they brought to the table were really fresh and tasty! 26 minutes to get served when there is almost nobody in the restaurant is outrageous. I also walked before another person and the waitress still took their order first even though I was seated before the person even got the restaurant . I also got my food later as a result of the waitress taking the other patrons order first. Lunch is never disappointing! I love the chicken TORTAS as they are probably the best ones I've had in any restaurants. The chicken is grilled and very tender and seasoned just right. I'd only say that perhaps the chicken pieces can be cut up a little larger than the smaller pieces as they fall out of the sandwich, even if I cut it in quarters! Alright. If you're reading this now-in 2024 and beyond, just stop wasting your time at all the other Mexican Food and Drink spots in Pasadena and get over to Amigos. Protip number 1: Parking fills up so either find parking around the corner or park in the lot across the way but be aware it is not completely cool to do so--so go early or Uber in for your cameo appearance. Protip number 2: the "Cantina" side is more interesting in a hangout kind of way but it is small. If you don't mind, the other "restaurant" side is also just as cool. After a couple of drinks you won't really care where you are anyway. Food: The food is definitely delicious and comes out on a hot oven finished plate. I personally think the Carnitas are some of the very best i've had anywhere in California, so I suggest that Carnitas plate... Report back your findings after you try it. The Carnitas Super Nachos (as seen in the photo I posted, were so good I almost didn't share with my Girlfriend but my civility kicked in and took over. The whole menu is really really good food and perfect for a night out and in many cases, if you're strapped for cash, they give you enough to share. Drinks: Off the chart. What are you even doing at a Mexican Restaurant and bar if you are scared of what tequila did to you in 1996? Get the Margarita-on the rocks and salted and if you keep it at that level, you'll be chill. Have two. If you decide you want to up your game and level up, try the Cadillac. You truly only *need* one, but i'm not going to stop you from doing your thing. I get one and i'm good. lol. The jukebox is good and the staff are excellent and attentive and keep the background going as they should. DEFINITELY recommended! It's a great spot! If you like the old dark wood decor bar ambience, check it out. The Margaritas are sublime, but I admit I am more addicted to Mijares probably because it is on my home commute path. The restaurant side is much brighter, and family friendly yet unremarkable. It's difficult for this reviewer to judge Mexican Cuisine while being a Francophile. All I can say is if you're hungry and happen to be nearby, park on the street because the parking in back is minuscule, then sit in the bar, order a drink and whatever tamale you like. read more

We went after work on Wednesday. It appeared all the people were in the bar area. Perhaps they have good happy hour specials? Idk. I liked the chips and salsa. The salsa was better than many Mexican restaurants with a slight kick to it. The food was good, nothing special. Prices are good and portions are large. Both of us took half the dish home to have at a later time. We didn't order alcohol so I can't comment on the margaritas. There is a small parking lot. Would I return? Maybe. Came in here thinking it would not be great because honestly Pasadena does not have great Mexican food, at least I have not found it yet in the restaurants I have tried, they are passable at best but a great restaurant is hard to find. Tried their burrito with chili verde and it was good, only issue I had was not enough meat, I tasted more of the sauce and flour tortilla then the actual carne. The rice I will say tasted great, had a hint of lemon to it, the refried beans were good as well. Table salsa wasn't spicy at all but did notice someone say the green sauce has a better kick, maybe on my second try I will be sure to order it and try it out. Standard Mexican food but wasn't impressed. I ordered a horchata while my friends ordered margaritas. Margaritas looked delicious--when I tried my horchata it tasted as if I was drinking water. Absolutely no taste whatsoever and not even a hint of cinnamon. I hate sending things back but I felt spending $4.50 for basically rice water was a waste. I asked my friends to try it to see if I was being reasonable--they agreed that it tasted bad. I asked the server if I could just switch to a sprite. She was kind and understanding so I appreciated that! I ordered chilaquiles verdes and I was disappointed. They were extremely mushy. I understand if you take a while to eat chilaquiles they get soggy but not immediately served. I ate the egg with the rice and beans which were delicious but couldn't eat the mushy chilaquiles. Chilaquiles are suppose to have a balance of soft and crunchy. Overall I don't see myself coming back here which is disappointing. read more

Went here for the margaritas and ceviche...not bad but have had better consistency on the strawberry margarita blended bc these were a bit on the watery side and very sweet. The ceviche was good but not amazing...will most definitely come back for their Chile relenos & fresh chips & salsa. Great place to hang out w friends on a weekend afternoon. Service was normal but kept asking if we were done to grab us boxes and felt like we were being rushed to finish but we kept ordering another round of margarita ended with third. Always been a big fan of Mexican food and found this place when I was looking for deliveries Ordered from here twice now and tied their enchiladas, asada burrito, taquitos and chicken mole. I would say it's solid if you want some decent Mexican food. The burrito is huge and packed with meat, rice and beans. Do wish they would've gave more salsa to pair it with. The taquitos is a bit dry but still tasty. Comes with the usual guac and sour cream which pairs the taquitos well. I have not tried a lot of Echaliadas before but I find theirs better than the others I've tried. Could be a personal preference. I find their Chicken mole to be a bit too sweet for my taste so I would probably not order this again. However, I only had mole twice so far and I understand there are many different types and the other one I've tied tasted very different. Will probably try their Chile relleno next time. read more

06/26/2018 I have been driving by this place for years. Always heading home from Old Town Pasadena or even South Lake Avenue. I wanted to come in here to try it for myself. From the outside it sure doesn't look like much. Once you step inside, it's like the biggest Mexican restaurant there is. The bar is to the far right with TVs for the game. There are TV screens for the dining area. Drinks are served anywhere you are seated. Just not to-go so I'm assuming that goes for horchata drinks too. I ordered a Pacifico and the two taco plate. Since it was Taco Tuesday, might as well go with the rice and beans too. The salsa has a little kick to it but goes great when you add it to these tacos. The waiter kept on refilling my horchata and if I wanted another beer. I really wanted another taco but I don't want to have to roll on out of here. Looks like this place can accommodate big groups.
