Wow! What a feast! My family and I came here for an impromptu Easter dinner and we couldn't have been happier with our experience at American Prime. From the start our server Willy was attentive and gave great recommendations off the menu. It was a rather large group of us, including my 1 year old, and Willy made sure that we all had everything we needed, including making an off the menu special fruit plate for my son. We had a wonderful Nee Years Eve at Prime, Eric the GM was a perfect host and was often making sure our evening was a success ! It was ! The Tomahawk Steak was cooked and served to perfection, the mashed potatoes were creamy and delicious and the creamed spinach was just heaven ! To start we had red and golden beet salad with a delicious side of breaded goat cheese which was so good !!! In total the experience was unforgettable ! I was not motivated to dine here after our first visit but did so at the invitation of friends. The ingredients to the cocktail were clearly spelled out on the menu but several who work there have no clue (or training) and just throw ingredients into glasses...resulting in very unpleasant drinks. The place was half empty on a Saturday evening even though they had a decent live band performing was another clue. The 10 oz steak seemed small and tasted okay, at best. The Bernaise sauce was gross and served in a little thimble. Each time I've dined here the prices on the check are substantially higher than the prices on the menu. I hate to do this to a new restaurant in the area, but maybe it will be a wake up call. It's interesting the restaurant has no reviews as of yet, what are the customers holding back? From my stand point, easy parking and very nice interior design. The staff was friendly, but the experience felt like a rough shake-down cruise. The soup we ordered never showed. Service took forever. Two drinks showed openly after we reminded the waiter. One cocktail was really not good (we told the waiter and he should have removed it from the bill). The rib appetizer is not presented well, the calamari is standard, the beet salad seemed like it was prepared with canned beets, the burger was not bad and fries were good. The lobster Mac and cheese was good. If the restaurant is trying to be high end (which seems the case) the wines by the glass should show the vintage years. The kitchen/waiter coordination needs much improvement. I hope this place makes it, local demand is plenty strong. But local clientele are discerning and will not accept what's currently on offer. We found the experience a bit surreal; it will be a while before we return. read more

Don't come here to celebrate anything! The food was fine, but when you go to a steakhouse, you expect a certain level of service and you won't get it here. It wasn't particularly crowded, but the staff was running around like it was. They seemed disorganized and overwhelmed. We waited 40 minutes for them to take our dessert order and we had to ask twice to get our water glasses filled. Oh and the dessert was disappointing. This place needs some help! read more

Recently went there for dinner. The hostess was great but after that, the service went downhill. Our server didn't greet us for over 30 minutes. Tables that came after us had food before we even got our drink order taken. After finally flagging him down, we didn't receive food until we were sitting for over 50 minutes. The steak was good. The chicken was mediocre and the pasta was bland. We frequent restaurants in Rye and this was so disappointing. Averna is a much better and more hospitable option if you're in the Rye area. The manager and staff appear to have catered to specific demographics. Our waiter checked on multiple tables about 2 to 3 times before even saying hi or telling us he was busy and would be there in a moment. read more

A friend and I went to American Prime to support local businesses and for a good steak dinner. We both work for Big Fours and are used to going to and taking our clients out to steakhouses all over the country - so I believe we have a good perspective on what minimally to expect. ARRIVING: We were greeted graciously by the "maître d'" when we arrived on a rainy Thursday night and escorted to our table. No coat check was offered and when we inquired they said they would take our coats. All the other tables had their coats on the back of their seats. Inside there are two rooms - a large dining area (to the right if you remember the old Westchester Burger) and a smaller alternate room. Since a rainy Thursday the main room was closed and we were seated in the alternate room which was nice enough. SETUP We received the usual setup of water and bread for the table. The bread was a bit stale and old and the butter where the little pre-packaged kind, not a nice piece of butter...but we managed. Waiter was very attentive and was always available if we needed anything such as additional sauces, dropped fork, etc. He was always surveying the room so that no one had to try very hard to get his attention. We ordered some oysters and the staff was attentive with horseradish, etc. when it didn't originally come with the order. SIDES - False Advertising! We ordered the lobster macaroni which came VERY watery and as we tried to serve (ourselves - some places will assist with the first serving) the watery nature of them dripped all over the table. Also there was a SINGLE SMALL PIECE of lobster on the top middle of the side when served, but nothing but "lobster flavored" sauce in the macaroni! Obviously NOT what one would expect from lobster macaroni! The other sides also had some issues - hash-browns where some type of burned sliced potatoes and very oily from deep frying. Asparagus was fine. MAIN ORDERS My friend ordered the rib eye and I was looking forward to a nice porterhouse but saw the menu was limited and said porterhouse only for two. The waiter said they could do it for one - but came back 10 minutes later to say no - only for two - we tried. Not a big deal I had the rib eye as well. I ordered my steak medium-raw and when my steak arrived it was medium to well done (no pink inside). After taking a few bites - it was definitely one of the "tougher" rib eyes I have had - a lot of veins and tough to chew - from the quality of the meat - not the cooking. My friend had ordered his medium and seared on the outside. His steak was BURNED. Not only that - but the burned part was "coincidently" placed facing down! After taking a bite he noticed the burnt flavor. They said they would fix it and they returned shortly with another one which was better...not burned but not seared...but lets move on. ENDING - Fake liquor! We ordered some after dinner drinks - my friend ordered brandy which he said tasted "off." I ordered some Cointreau neat with ice on the side. My drink came with no side of ice and when the ice did come after asking, no spoon or anything with which to serve it was provided - but waiter brought afterwards. WORSE: It was CERTAINLY not Cointreau - the "sommelier" came by after I spoke to the waiter and he said he poured it directly from the bottle. He even poured me another one in front of me - which was equally terrible. Not terrible as in spoiled - just that it was SOMETHING ELSE not Cointreau. (I thought maybe something with my taste from the meal - came home and had some and it was definitely not me!) From my friend's experience with his brandy and my experience - they are clearly "tampering" or providing alternate liquors! SUMMARY The service was attentive and good. The steaks where mediocre - very tough and in the context of our experience not sure what actual cuts and quality we were served. When you sum up the poor quality of the meats, the "disingenuous" sides and the the switching of liquors or whatever was going on - I would recommend a PASS on American Prime. Recently returned to American Prime for dinner and it did not disappoint. Excellent waitstaff and we were ably served by Eric and Willy D. Generous drinks, both wines and spirits. Salads were well dressed and appetizers were tasty. Steaks were cooked to order and were delicious. Chatting with friends, we were undisturbed for a long time. A very pleasant time. I have never experienced such an unsatisfying experience w/a restaurant in all aspects as I did w/America Prime. 1st visit on Valentine Day we were trying to celebrate my son's Birthday. Reservations were 7p as we arrived & greeted/ seated by whom later informed to be the Manager. Passing the 1st seating area it was totally empty that sparked concern. It was a good 30 min before he approached us again to take our drink order took another 25min before 2 of 3 arrived. At that point we tried to order but the person who brought the drinks stated he would send the waitress over didn't happen for another 15-20 min. To continue this horrific experience. Finally apps & entrees ordered it was 8:30 and not even a soul was out in the room for us to even ask what was going on, not to mention how famished we were and I still had not received my drink. 1 visible waitress, 2 bus boys & Manager various tables trying to capture anyones attention. We observed a few plates being brought to tables & they had no idea who ordered it as they went around asking tables if that was their order, then the plates were taken back towards the kitchen. We heard other tables expressing their disappointment w/entrees, apps which again sparked major concerns. Such expected delays if the restaurant was in full capacity, not the case. There were about 5 empty tables, 2 tables w/a group of 6, all others were couples plus us w/3. Apps finally came Escargot/Octopus were cold definitely sat, Oysters were the tiniest ever seen salad was only good thing. Everything my son & his girlfriend ordered was awful. We tried getting again of someone to speak with, not w/much luck. Finally got the Manager to come over we expressed informed him, apology was made said he would replace them. Now 9:30p and we continue to see/hear tables complaining about their food. A 2 table gets up & leave frustrated after sending their food back twice. Our food is finally brought out we ask the waitress what happened w/my drink and also ask what is going on. She merely stats the kitchen is backed up, which bo reason since there were not that many people there and no one had food. We ordered 2 Valentine specials Ribeye & Salmon my son ordered the larger Ribeye plate. We had heard 2 other tables complain about salmon now worried. Sure enough the Salmon came out under cooked & looked atrocious. My steak was ok however, my son did not get the steak he ordered they gave him the smaller 20oz steak & it was cooked at the wrong temperature. Now the table next to us gets up, grab coats. The gentlemen announced to us how their meal was also under cooked & nothing they ordered was edible. They wished my son a Happy Birthday & said they were leaving to go have dinner at another restaurant its now almost 10p. We once again tried to get the attention of SOMEONE but unsuccessful. My son had to get up and go find the manager since all we wanted to do was leave. The waitress came over to the other table to express to them an occurrence in the kitchen when we called her over. I asked again what is going on when she tells us that a cook had cut his hand and they were short in the kitchen causing the delay. I expressed our disappointment w/everything and the fact that the manager should have explained this from the beginning of our arrival, giving us the option to stay or leave and not permit us to sit for over 3 hrs without food or any explanations and not even a thing on the table to calm our growling stomaches. She was apologetic but at that point all the anger that had been brewing in me I expressed to her I didn't want to take it out on her, I stated how could that not be shared w/us at the very least so we could decide what to do, she stated she was instructed by the manager not too. Respectfully we asked for our check even though we should have just gotten up & left like at least 4 tables did. They did take 2 of the other apps off the bill but did charge us full price for the 2 Valentine Specials & the larger Ribeye, we had to send the bill back and stated we were not going to pay for a plate that came raw and a steak not received they needed to adjust the bill. We had so many expectations and the experience was absolutely horrifying. It is sad that Restaurants can get away with this. How could a cook and a manager allow food to go out undercooked that could potentially be harmful to someone's health. If it happens once how many rimes have they done this in the past. That is something all should be concerned with. Hopefully this and all the other negative experiences shared would close this place down. read more

Tomahawk steak for two awesome! I believe the got a new chef and they made great changes

This was the most awful restaurant experience ever. It is Valentine's Day. We sat at 7:30pm and got a menu and flat sliced white bread. The restaurant was fairly empty so the generic Ariana Grande electronic music was loud and annoying. It gets pumped out into the parking lot, so that should have been the first clue. We waited about 30 minutes before anybody acknowledged us. It took 90 minutes to get 1 salad which was drenched in dressing. It took another 15 minutes to get our entrees. We were there for almost 2 hours before our entrees came. We had to send back the creamed spinach because it was cold and AWFUL. We got a huge cheesy baked potato we didn't order (we later overheard the table behind us say "we never got our loaded baked potato"). The potatoes we did order were barely cooked. People all around us were sending back their food and one couple left with their second attempt at entrees not eaten and left on the table. Food was being delivered to the wrong tables. It was just a nightmare. In the end, we were only charged for our steak which while ordered rare, was well done on the ends. The person who looked like he may have been the manager kept on insisting that he give us dessert or an after dinner drink - dude - read the room. We had been there for over 2 hours and sent back our food, why would we want to stay? read more

This overall night at this steakhouse was the definition of perfect. our server Juan was very nice and helpful to me and my family. the place looked amazing on the inside and overall surpassed any expectations. the food was something special. great flavor to the steaks, and everything was delicious. the food came out sizzling on the plate which ensured that every bite was hot and fresh. The staff was amazing. Honestly this place deserves 6 out of 5 stars. I highly recommend this place for a high tier dinner. through my experience there, I can say that American Prime is the definition of class. read more
