Um, so yes I heart this chain. I mean I really love it like, a lot. They have the big salad. Like big everything like Seinfeld big salad worthy. The first time I visited, I was in DC. We needed a quick and light lunch before a wedding starting in like an hour. Boom. Enjoyed. The second time I visited was near my office in NYC. That site was a bit more meh due to being crowded, smaller and dirtier. This past experience, brought the leafy love back to me. All salads have their calories listed which is totally useful and used by me. I typically go with the Santa Fe Cob with their spa tex mex ranch that has a whopping 45 calories and tastes amazing. This time, I went with their new souvlaki chicken salad with spa yogurt dressing. Amazing with big blocks of fresh Feta, romaine, chicken. So large that I couldn't finish it and it rang in at a little less then 500 calories with dressing and all. It seems like a lot calories but honestly, the salad is so large and keeps you satisfied for like the day. This place is cleaner than most other locales I have been to: large, great reggae music playing and extremely helpful and nice employees. A co-worker picked it up and brought it back to me and it was so mushy! Chicken was tasteless even though it was fried and the cheese was non descriptive. Salad should never ever have the dressing mixed in. It should be served on the side and especially if you request take away they should be the dressing in a small plastic containger. I've decided to update my review to reflect the way management and Chop't employees handled a stressful situation this past Saturday. I walked in, only to join a line that was wrapped around the store. After 15 minutes of waiting on the line, the fire alarm goes off. There didn't appear to be any smoking or issues in the kitchen, so employees remained composed, collected and went along with business as usual. Unfortunately, I had the DISPLEASURE of being behind an incredibly rude individual who not only lacked social etiquette (as he infringed on not only mine, but my mothers personal space and boundaries), but continuously shouted "GET OFF THE LINE, I REPEAT GET OFF THE LINE. THE FIRE ALARM IS GOING OFF". At first, it was funny. The 15th time hearing it? Not so much. Management and employees remained professional and pleasant, which kept pandemonium to a minimum. The manager took my order with a smile (not a forced one either.....) and remained upbeat in an annoyingly stressful situation. I was really impressed. It was the weirdest vibe I've ever experienced in Chop't. Upon leaving, a gentleman told my mom to, "go eat her kale and do some yoga". Him, as well as the prior stated RUDE individual, were part of a traveling group (i,e- Dream Riders or something along those lines). I welcome diversity to culturally similar areas in Westchester (like Rye Brook) with OPEN ARMS!!! But to infringe on my mother's personal boundaries, bully and downright insult her? Get the hell out of here. If anyone knows the name of this "travel group", I'd greatly appreciate any information. Whether it's a book review or a food review, I always wonder if I'm on crack when 95% of reviews praise a product/restaurant while I hate it. This is no different. If I had to describe the salads here in one word, it'd be yuck. They make me feel like I'm chewing rubber. Not joking. The vegetables are bland and in between crunchy and not crunchy. They chop your salad up for you, which is a cool feature, but I've found that the flavors of everything in my salad are muddied as a result of this. Overall, the salad tastes more like I'm eating dressing and less like eating a crunchy salad that is complimented by a light dressing. I came to Chop't two times when it first opened. My mother and I were underwhelmed by the taste, but we figured maybe things would improve in some way months later. So we gave it another shot this weekend. Nope, still the same. I'm honestly not sure why people would come here when Chipotle is a few stores down. I'd much rather eat a salad there than come here ever again. Sorry Chop't, I tried to give you a third chance, but even your bread (which is just some flimsy tasteless wrap) was a disappointment. I come to Rye Brook to visit family and this is a frequent lunch destination because it seems healthy. Of course, your can put enough junk in to make it unhealthy. But, you feel good about yourself as your address doing it. Lots of fresh ingredients in general. Many different greens that can be mixed and matched. The toppings are excellent. But, what makes this place different is the chopping My personal recommendation is that you (1) ask for the dressing on the side or tell them to stop or you will get too much, and (2) watch the chopping like a hawk and tell them when to stop. If you let them go, you don't get the individual chunks. It isn't quite a puree of salad, but another 30 seconds will get you there. I wish that Chopd was near me in Boston. Finally tried Chop't today - it's not mind-blowingly scrumptious (it's just salad, people!), but it's sure tasty! They have a cool "mise-en-place" of all the goods you can add to your salad, or you can just order one of the special salads on the menu. They give a generous portion of meat if you add chicken which is always a plus. The assortment of dressings was impressive and I can't wait to go back and try more. The Mexican Caesar was spicy and creamy and I really enjoyed the bacon Russian too. Next on my list is the lemon tahini dressing. They also have a Boylan's soda fountain (local soda company - these guys are big on local products) - love their soda - much more true-to-flavor and cleaner tasting than Pepsi or Coke products (good root beer too!). read more
