Imagine a Citarella mixed with a Whole Foods- but in a more condensed (very condensed) version.The beauty here is that this Korean husband and wife team have been bringing wholesome and thoughtfully prepared/cooked proteins, healthy, veggie-forward foods, packaged items, a nice selection of cheeses, pastries and beverages on Purchase St in Rye. And you don't have to be a health nut to enjoy these comforts. This is June & Ho. Although there is meat, it's not front-and-center. You're more likely notice Quinoa+veggies, Ratatouille, Wild Rice+veggies, etc. On another side, there are crab and fish cakes, salmon pieces in lemony sauce, grilled chicken cutlets and other proteins. There you have it. So without the foreplay, now let's really get straight to the main act. After reading a June & Ho article in my Westchester Magazine a few years back mentioning their to-die-for Hot Chocolate, all I needed was a visit. When I asked about preparation- all I fixated on was 'imported semi-sweet chocolate chips'. So if you truly are a hot chocolate fiend- winter, spring, summer and fall, this is the move. Service was incredible and patient. Some folks enjoyed light bites up front where there are about 2 small tables. I still find it hard to believe that a place like this will make a rocking hot chocolate! I'm sure there are many places that are qualified to carry the title "World's Best Hot Chocolate"- but June & Ho's is just gangster. It's creamy, oh-soooo-cocoaey and delectable. Great little Deli! Nicely displayed and efficiently run. There are 2 different locations with cash registers to pay. Lots of healthy food choices. I tried the rice and banana puddings because a friend recommended them. End of an era. I'm glad there are other gourmet food stores in Westchester. After the owners died the staff is argumentative and defensive with customers, especially if you have food allergies. I don't feel safe getting anything from here especially since I was told having food allergies was my fault. June and Ho is a useful source of "fine food" when you find yourself in Rye. The morning croissants are quite good; at the current price of $2, they're an excellent value. The June and Ho shrimp salad sandwiches (purchased for lunch) are outstanding. I have liked the tuna salad, seaweed salad and other miscellaneous items that I've gotten from the counter. Breads are delish. Tuna is usually not watery/overloaded with mayo (though I'd suggest double checking). Great food presentations, the food is generally yummy, and they have fresh produce in the back. Variety makes June and Ho great in my eyes. Prices make June and Ho an occasional occurrence and not a daily routine. Lines can get long, so I'd suggest avoiding during lunch time and right before the commuters get back from work. There's a back entrance which makes life even more convenient. This place has been around for ages. I remember as a kid, there was a huge fire. Bad enough that they had to close down. So glad they rebuilt after and are still around many years later. read more

I have been going to June an Ho since 1985 when I first moved to Rye. When I come back to visit, I always stop there and get a warm hug from June. The food is delish!!! The salmon tartare is to die for, the cheese selection is wonderful, the flowers are glorious, the produce is appealing, and the chicken Marbella so memorable that I have to have it. Thanks to having my Subaru services around the corner from this place and having to wait...my 7 yr old son and I decided to take a walk on purchase street to see what would be opened at 10:30am. By 11ish we walk in to find it busy but quick service. This place is a gem! My son approves of their shortbread cookies and I had a to die for ...last meal like request worthy sandwich. It was number 7-the prosciutto and provolone cheese with pesto and sundried tomatoes. Absolutely delicious. I raved about it to my hubs and had to save him a piece bc he knows how picky i can be. The woman owner of this place (husband and wife co-own it apparently) is not friendly, and it takes away from an otherwise nice little high-end deli/market. In this area there are many, many competing stores within driving distance. In the town of Rye alone there is Rye Country Market which has great prepared food, and Crisfield's which has nice meats. Both competitors also have a few nice grocery items such as jarred sauces and in the case of Rye Country Store cheeses as well. read more

Good food but VERY overpriced. They stop serving you cold cuts half hour to an hour before actual closure! WTF?! When I asked the boss to tell the workers to actually make them cut a pound of cheese for me he refused and said he couldn't make them do it. Kind of funny. But good food. read more

This is a well established gourmet store --kind of like a mini Balducci's. There is a large selection of high quality packaged goods, oils, vinegars, etc. Store made smoked salmon and pates are very good. On a recent visit shrimp salad was outstanding, jumbo shellfish in a light mayonnaise. Herring and tuna salads were on point. The produce is always solid. I never tried the fresh meats and fish but they look good. Check the case for gourmet dairy. There are often interesting new items displayed behind the cashier stations -- on the most recent visit saffron salt caught my eye. I plumped for a less expensive salt and pepper combo. A fine store but not for the faint of wallet. read more

I went in there for the first time. They had a large variety of cheeses, gourmet and European items that I use for cooking/baking (creme fraiche, etc.), and a nice selection of prepared foods. I bought a variety of prepared foods and baked goods for my husband and myself. Some were very good (the green beans almondine, an almond tart) and some were ok (the cucumber salad, the pistachio brioche - good texture but a real dearth of pistachio flavor). And then I waited on the cashier line. When I got to the cashier, imagine my surprise to see a sign that said credit card use required a 3+% fee. It isn't a large fee, but it was a surprise. There was no notice on entrance, or a sign large enough before you started waiting. So I had 2 choices: put some things (none of which were packaged items) back or just pay the fee. I paid the fee. A store that cared about its customers would have posted such a notice at the entrance so anyone entering would be forewarned and could plan their purchases. When I called up to speak with the manager, she hung up on me as soon as I said I wouldn't be back (of course the reason I won't be back is because I don't live in or around Rye and I was only there because of a doctor's appointment). Nice gourmet market but nothing especially unique - same products you wouldn't find at a Citarella, Dean and Delluca, Eli's, etc (with prices to match). Highlights are fresh produce, baguettes, sandwiches and prepared salads in the summer. Would go there more if the operations were better managed. Line at the register is consistently 5+minutes with low to moderate volumes. They show some contempt for anyone who is in any kind of hurry. The queue at the counter is ambiguous and inevitably causes lines forming on two sides leading to arguments about who was there first. During the 10+ minutes it takes to get a sandwich I usually witness at least one of these conflicts. Not sure why June or Ho haven't put up any basic signage to rectify this. Also - French Vietnamese sandwich shop with no Banh Mi? Come on! read more

What a great place. I have become a regular since moving to nearby Port Chester. Rye is our downtown and June & Ho a regular stop for their great French baguette (baked upstairs and best in Westchester), cheese selections, fresh and unusual flowers, fruits and vegetables and gourmet items. The small $1 packages of fresh herbs are a bargain and it's one of the only places around to get Schaller & Weber hot dogs (if you're going to eat hot dogs, this brand is worth it!) My wife thinks their hummus is out of this world, and I could go on. A former Yankess manager (seen when he was still living nearby) likes the olive bread. Oh ,yes, and the owners June and Ho are charming, helpful and live nearby. Gotta love it. read more

June is elegant, lovely and most importantly an amazing cook. The smoked salmon, foie gras, madeleines, chicken pot pie, salmon tartare, mixed spicey nuts and breads are my go-to favorites--all prepared by her or under her tutelage. Amazing deli! Went for the first time recently after my boyfriend, who used to work in Rye, insisted I try the place. The sandwiches are AWESOME but the premade food and salads were also terrific! I had the corn salad (sort of a mix of corn, tomato, cucumber, lime juice, cilantro) and the tarragon chicken salad. Both amazing. Delicious quality chicken.
