Mango sorbetto, devoured before I remembered that I should take the picture
Ivone K.

This place got yummy selections of gelato and sorbetto. We came on Saturday afternoon and there's no line up. We sampled a few of the gelato/sorbetto before we decided. I settled with mango sorbetto, which I thought was delicious. Mr.7 who loves sorbetto, had the raspberry sorbetto which equally delicious. Mr.10 had the strawberry vanilla gelato, and Mr.2 wanted strawberry gelato, but the server said that they don't have it (Later on I found that they do have strawberry gelato. Not sure whether she's new or she cannot remember that they do have strawberry gelato). I don't like the strawberry vanilla gelato as much as the sorbetto, it tastes artificially flavoured rather than using real fruits. The place also offered popsicles, pre-packed gelato/sorbetto, and also ice cream cakes. Nevertheless, it was a successful afternoon for us, dragging three boys longing for a yummy treat.

Stopped by here as I was wanting some gelato on a nice sunny day. They have a large variety of gelato flavours with a decent amount of seating outside. I decided to get the pistachio gelato and felt it tasted a bit artificial. However gelato is always wanted on a warm spring day!

Best. In. Canada. Need I say more?! When I raved to the servers at my favorite restaurant in Squamish about their incredible desserts and asked where they got their ice creams from, they told me it was all from Mario's Gelato! I quickly googled it to discover the shop selling Mario's to be called Amato Gelati in downtown Vancouver! On our way back from Whistler we had to stop in and get some road gelato so we made our way over and managed to find parking next to the construction zone. Someone had overpaid so we got free parking - whoo hoo! I took my time perusing all 50+ flavors and settled on cinnamon and hedgehog. I've had a lot of gelato in my time circling the sun, and this definitely ranks up at the top! It beats out the gelato I had in Firenze near the River Arno! I will definitely be back here again in the future! Service was good and there was plenty of seating in the place. There were also lots of options for take-home pints (or the Canadian equivalent -bigger!) and discounted seasonal flavors/specialties.

If you want to try the best ice cream/gelato place, well friends this is the place. I am obsessed with there wonderful flavours. The ice cream is perfection on a waffle cone of course. The staff is very friendly and offer advice on what flavours you would like depending on your taste. They always leave me satisfied. This place is definitely worth the drive to come visit. A message to everyone who wants a date night idea to end with some sweet dessert and a cute walk around Yale town, come here and I am certain your date will thank you.

Black currant and vanilla sooooo good

I used to come here a lot as a kid in the summer time. I live close to this place now and don't know why I've only been back a few times ..I guess because there are so many icecream shops around here now. I usually go for mango or green tea but, this beautiful purple/White swirl one caught my eye it was black currant & vanilla. I asked for a sample and it was so delicious! I decided to get a scoop in a cup. It was so good I came back a week later and got the same flavor. It's definitely a favorite now. This place makes so many awesome icecream treats even their icecream Sammy's are delicious in the freezer section.

Caramel lava cake & mint chocolate cookie

Sometimes, quantity has a quality of its own, and Amato really impressed me with the absolutely massive selection they have on offer. They had more flavours than I've seen just about anywhere else, and a lot of those were quite interesting and unique, along with common staples. I went for caramel lava cake and mint cookie, which were both pretty good, and I saw a lot more I wanted to try. Add to their sheer variety the fact that they also sell pints and boxes of frozen treats, including some cute animal-shaped ones, and this is definitely a frozen dessert shop that should be on your radar. With so many flavours, though, several of them were also very similar to one another in both theme and taste; and while I thought the gelato was very good, it wasn't knock-your-socks-off good. Still, it's a great place if you're looking for a very particular flavour, or a specific kind of dessert!

Tons of flavors

There's a soft spot at Mario's Gelati for me. It's not because the gelato is extra good or the service is stands out above all the other places. The reason is I got married upstairs in the ballroom and the location. False Creek is a nice location to go biking since there are a lot of flat surfaces. When you're tired from hours of excercise, you can cool off by grabbing a cold dessert. There's not much of a view from the store, but there are chairs outside to sit on. Relax and gear up again for another ride.

Hidden gem on Main St & 1st Ave!! Our summer finally arrived and we needed an ice cream for a hot day. They have many different flavours of gelato, sorbet and frozen yogurt. I found few flavours just ok: Black sesame taste not too strong. Mango - a bit icy and not too smooth

This place is nestled in a building that I feel has been there for a long time. On the outside of the building it says Mario's Gelato but the store is actually called Amato. I love it here! Their gelato is so delicious and smooth and they have 3 freezers of flavours to choose from! I keep walking back and forth because I can't decide. They let you try samples and you have to pay first at the counter. For a waffle cone 2 scoops, it is 7.75 including tax while 1 scoop is around 4.75-5$? Their scoops are quite generous which is a good thing because who doesnt love gelato! They have a mango coconut marble that is heavenly! They have an assortment of flavours that can satisfy anyone and everyone

Sugar-free and tofulate.

Early fall/autumn came, and it was only natural that this gelato store had barely any customer looking for cold desserts. No line-ups at all so the store looked spacious indoors. Very easy to find parking spot in front of the store, too (paybyphone street parking). I would highly recommend their soy-based Chocolate Tofulate. Holy. It was good (not very sweet or "heavy" for my taste). It wasn't too "creamy" compared to gelato at other stores. My partner had one of their sugar-free delights on waffle cone and he looked very happy with it. Two ladies served us and were both pleasant.

When I see a Gelato place, I think: Do they have Sorbeto as well? and they do. I tasted the Lavendar Earl Grey (!) and was impressed with the "bouquet" but it diminished right away and I was left with a shallow ice taste, so boo-hoo for me and my Dairy allergy. The big guy however, enjoyed very much his Acaiberry Gelato. Unfortunately, I found the staff to be very sour and underwelcoming. The good news is that there is a sign on the door: "Part time and full time Help wanted" SO, maybe there will be happier faces soon to serve. I will say one thing, this area is in complete transition with condo's going up all over, but that doesn't impede business in this shop.

Can't control myself and took a few bites before taking the picture haha. Expresso flake and durian (weird combo I know)

The folks working there were kind and professional. They looked like wickedly good witches as they added natural ingredients to their metal cauldrons, and then added the liquid nitrogen, creating a rapidly rising fog. So, really, you are getting ice cream and a show! The concoctions emerged as super smooth, not too sweet, distinct fresh flavorful ice cream. It is a small shop with limited seating, so not likely to be a comfie sit down experience for you given how popular the place is, but it is easy food to take to go and a very nice area for a stroll. So, that's the scoop! ;)

I ordered the Original Peak, with a twist of vanilla and dark chocolate with cereal at the bottom. The first thing that stood out was the airy and fluffy texture, almost lighter than traditional soft serve. The dark chocolate brought a mild cocoa note, while the cereal added a crunchy, slightly nostalgic contrast at the base. That said, I expected the vanilla to have more of a rich, milky flavor. This is not the place for plain vanilla; it's the combinations (think honeycomb, matcha, or seasonal specials) that bring the experience to life. Based on the shop's concept, Soft Peaks is known for using local organic milk and keeping sweetness restrained, which tracks with that lighter, less sugary profile. Adding something like cereal or crunchy toppings makes a big difference. If you're a vanilla purist looking for a strong dairy note, this might feel a bit subtle.

When getting the matcha ice cream, I suggest getting straight matcha instead of the twist with vanilla because the vanilla washes out the matcha; it comes through better on its own. The sundaes are fun and a good, more affordable alternative to the similar parfaits at high end matcha cafes. I tried the tuna egg salad crepe and thought it was actually really good! The crepe was fresh and tender, there was a healthy amount of filling, and the tuna salad was actually mostly tuna with just enough mayo to hold it together which is how I prefer it. Again, the service is just through a window - you actually order at an electronic kiosk and the only interaction with a person is when your order is ready.
