This is an unassuming place compared to the boutique shops that dominate the Vancouver ice cream/gelato market, but it's still a pretty good place to grab a treat. They have lots of classic flavours and the gelato is very creamy. I will say that I don't think it quite has the "softness" that the very best gelato has, but it's still really good and you might not notice a difference if you're not super picky - I'm only getting into this detail because there's sooo much excellent gelato in Vancouver. There's a good amount of seating inside, and it's usually not full, so it should be easy to get a seat here, and you also won't have to wait in a long line. The staff are friendly. I have never had a better cup of gelato. If you love cherries, please order the cherry gelato. It is life-changing. It's just that good. This was the very first time that I've ever finished a cup of gelato. Normally I have my husband finish it for me. I didn't even ask him if he wanted some. Very good, very smooth gelato at tourist inflated prices. After a big dinner, we took a walk in downtown Vancouver to get ice cream, pretty much a tradition for a lot of families I suppose. We followed our daughter around until we came into this small shop, with a good selection of ice cream. It was later in the night, but all the ice creams looked fresh and delicious. As usual, always more cost effective to get a two scooper and share so got the dark chocolate sorbet and dulce de leche ($8.50). They have about 40 different types ranging from the old standards to some really creative ones. Gelato here is an easy 10/10, tons of flavors to choose from, but the wooden spoon is 20% of the flavor which makes my rating 8.5/10 but this is an easy fix. You are also allowed to sample flavors. Visited Gelato Express on a Wednesday at about 6:30pm. There was only one other group in front of me so I didn't have to wait long. They have a ton of flavors all clearly displayed. I ordered a single scoop of the Moose Tracks (vanilla ice cream with fudge and peanut butter candy chunks). They had quite a few interesting flavors and I had a hard time deciding. I tried the London Fog, one of my favorite flavors of all time, but didn't like it at all. The earl grey wasn't rich. I love Gelato Express! Their gelato is delicious and their customer service is excellent. This is a cool small business that is locally owned and family run. They have a huge selection of gelato and sorbet. In addition to classic flavors (Coconut, Tiramisu, Coffee), they also have interesting flavors that I've never seen before (Candy Cane, Key Lime Pie, Taro). I love how their products are displayed - they are really pretty and fun. You can get your selection in a cup or a waffle cone. They also have extra toppings available, like caramel sauce, rainbow sprinkles, whipped cream, etc. There are several tables inside where you can sit down and eat. I think their gelato is really creamy and tastes great. (By the way, they don't use liquid nitrogen anymore). It is made in small batches with fresh, natural ingredients. I like to get Strawberry and Banana Chocolate Chip or Pistachio and Cherry Mania. You can ask for a sample if you want to try something. One night we spent some time talking to the owner. He is a very sweet man and really interesting. It is clear that he is truly passionate about making high quality, authentic gelato. To my surprise this place has less seats than what I recalled before. Not sure if they renovated or decided to remove some seatings. Anyways...... So I did sample some ice cream flavors before deciding what to get. I sampled the cookie monster, Pistachio and Ferrero Rocher. I settled with the Pistachio and Ferrero Rocher - two scoops. 2 scoops of ice cream for $6.25 which was not too bad. That is the going rate for ice cream in Vancouver. I had it in a cup as well. So the flavor was very delicious. The reason why I didn't get the cookie monster flavor was because it looked like it had a lot of coloring and on top it was too buttery. I loved the ice cream and would highly recommend ice cream fans to give this place a try. Only issue, I had about this place is the seating. I ended up walking across to the Vancouver Library building and sat on the steps there. Or another option is to have the ice cream while walking. I highly recommend giving this ice cream place a try. The gelato was good and the portion was okay. However, one of the spoons broke when we tried to scoop the gelato; it was shocking and scary because we might hurt ourselves and bleed (What if the broken pieces of the spoon get into the gelato?). This never happened before at other gelato places using the same spoons. They should use the good quality spoons (stronger and larger) for the safety of both the staff and the customers because their gelato is denser. The server came out from the back when the spoon was broken. We did not know if he was spying on us. P.S. They should change the paintings on the wall because the people in the paintings do not look happy. I've been on an ice cream and gelato binge lately. I came here when it was Lik and I didn't really enjoy it but I thought I would give this place another chance. They use the same nitrogen concept for the gelato. They have the flavours posted on the wall and the prices range from 7-9$ which is quite pricey. I got the 8$ strawberry cheesecake flavour and i thought it would be strawberry ice cream with cheesecake but instead, it was almost like a plain vanilla gelato with strawberry jam sauce on top and small crumbles which I almost choked on because the pieces were so small and dusty. The gelato didn't have much flavour but it was very cold. When I first received it, the gelato was so lopsided and i honestly thought it was going to fall if I didn't eat it fast enough. I finished it not because it was delicious but because I don't like wasting food. I would rather spend my money to get either a double or triple scoop of gelato some place else. read more

5 stars for service, presentation and quantity of gelato received! Loved the liquid nitrogen display as the gelato was being prepared. Did you know that the gelato starts in liquid form in the Kitchen Aid mixer? After adding the liquid nitrogen and letting the mixer do it's thing for a couple minutes - the result is some freshly made gelato! We ordered a cup of pistachio and another of mango. Both tasted great! And the portions were huge! The pistachio was topped with chopped pistachios and the mango - with chunks of mango. A small wafer was also added to both to complete the dessert. I only wish they had more dairy-free options - as of now their sorbets are limited to lemon and dark chocolate. Price is kinda steep $7-$8 but I guess the quantity makes up for it.
