This is an unassuming place compared to the boutique shops that dominate the Vancouver ice cream/gelato market, but it's still a pretty good place to grab a treat. They have lots of classic flavours and the gelato is very creamy. I will say that I don't think it quite has the "softness" that the very best gelato has, but it's still really good and you might not notice a difference if you're not super picky - I'm only getting into this detail because there's sooo much excellent gelato in Vancouver. There's a good amount of seating inside, and it's usually not full, so it should be easy to get a seat here, and you also won't have to wait in a long line. The staff are friendly. It's a little expensive, but about average for downtown. read more

I have never had a better cup of gelato. If you love cherries, please order the cherry gelato. It is life-changing. It's just that good. This was the very first time that I've ever finished a cup of gelato. Normally I have my husband finish it for me. I didn't even ask him if he wanted some. Is a cute little store that has some of the old-school ice cream parlor pictures that I enjoyed singing. This is a great little spot. They have seating that's facing the street so you can people watch. I love doing that. If I ever come back to Vancouver. This will be the first place I come. read more

Very good, very smooth gelato at tourist inflated prices. After a big dinner, we took a walk in downtown Vancouver to get ice cream, pretty much a tradition for a lot of families I suppose. We followed our daughter around until we came into this small shop, with a good selection of ice cream. It was later in the night, but all the ice creams looked fresh and delicious. As usual, always more cost effective to get a two scooper and share so got the dark chocolate sorbet and dulce de leche ($8.50). Both were excellent, extremely creamy and the mix of dark chocolate with creamy caramel was really good. read more

This place has soooo many flavors to choose from. I tried Ferraro Rocher and Tiramisu flavors and I liked Ferraro. I also got blood orange, passion fruit and strawberry margarita. The blood orange was better than the other two. Overall all flavors I tried were good. The price was average about $8.5 CAD for one scoop and a waffle cone. read more

Favorite gelato in Vancouver! So many flavors to choose from that you're guaranteed to find one you like. I don't think they allowed samples but everything is delicious. The matcha has a strong bitter flavor that we appreciated (I hate weak matcha) and the passion fruit burst with tartness to cleanse the palette. Staff was super friendly and gave nice sized portions. read more

Gelato Express - So many choices in the case - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

This is a small, independent gelato shop by the Central Library. Open late (11pm) which is convenient for late night cravings. Food was very good - (4.5/5): They are flexible with samples and I tried out 7-8 of them. Most were very tasty and made it hard to choose. They have about 40 different types ranging from the old standards to some really creative ones. Had the Ferraro Rocher which was really good, but also would recommend the Cookies and Cream, Salted Caramel and Strawberry Cheesecake too! Service was good - servers were very friendly, happy to provide samples and attentive - (4.5/5) Atmosphere - not much to it... it's a small but bright kiosk type place with one table only - (3.5/5) Overall... (4.5/5) and definite repeat to try out more flavours. Bit pricey for the size but i'm willing to spend the extra buck or so for the quality. read more

This is my favorite Gelato place in Vancouver. I'm in Vancouver once a year and go here everyday during my visit. The location is clean inside and out. There are seats inside, some are window seats. Good customer service/the employees are knowledgeable and friendly. A good variety of flavors. You are allowed to taste flavors. Good Customer Service. Street parking on Robson. I don't remember seeing a restroom for customers. read more

Gelato here is an easy 10/10, tons of flavors to choose from, but the wooden spoon is 20% of the flavor which makes my rating 8.5/10 but this is an easy fix. You are also allowed to sample flavors. I recommend you bring your own spoon if you are sensitive to a wooden taste and texture. Service is also 10/10, very nice workers. Not too loud in the store so the ambiance is pretty good 10/10. Seats are kind of comfortable but hard so comfort is around 8/10. Pricing is also affordable, 10/10. Overall, this place is very good, easy 9.5/10. read more

Nice small shop with a good amount of choices, the coconut was the standout, great flavor and nice bits of coconut. Ferrero was also nice and nutty, but the vanilla fell short a bit, very subtle flavor of vanilla. There was tons more, so a flavor for anyone, they also have better prices than some of the others in town. Service was quick and friendly. read more

Visited Gelato Express on a Wednesday at about 6:30pm. There was only one other group in front of me so I didn't have to wait long. They have a ton of flavors all clearly displayed. I ordered a single scoop of the Moose Tracks (vanilla ice cream with fudge and peanut butter candy chunks). I feel like the price is a tiny bit high ($5.50ish) for the size but I didn't really mind, it tasted really good. There were a ton of good flavors so I'd definitely go back. read more

we dropped by gelato express around 7:30 pm on a wednesday. there were two servers behind the counter, and the place was pretty quiet - just the way we like it. with 42 flavours to choose from, we were spoiled for choice. after a few taste tests, i settled on a scoop of black sesame and key lime pie, all piled onto a charcoal cone. the black sesame brought a subtle, slightly gritty texture, and the key lime pie was a zesty, creamy treat with tiny bits of key lime rinds and pie crust. it was a chill night with a sweet twist. read more

Delicious gelato place - they allow you to try two free samples. I tried the Ferrara Rocher (rich hazelnut chocolate flavor with a mild crunch that takes me back to childhood) and Akbar Mashti that had flavors of rose and saffron with pistachio in it. Will definitely come back more during our trip to try the other unique flavors. read more

I've read all the amazing reviews here but had an ok experience only. Lots of different flavors which was what drew me to the store initially. They had quite a few interesting flavors and I had a hard time deciding. I tried the London Fog, one of my favorite flavors of all time, but didn't like it at all. The earl grey wasn't rich. For the price they charge, I was expecting a luscious taste in my mouth. Nope. Yes it was creamy smooth and had your typical gelato texture. However, that was all. When vendors charge a certain price, as a consumer I'd have certain expectations. Why bother paying such a price for said taste when I can easily get cheaper alternatives? read more

I love Gelato Express! Their gelato is delicious and their customer service is excellent. This is a cool small business that is locally owned and family run. They have a huge selection of gelato and sorbet. In addition to classic flavors (Coconut, Tiramisu, Coffee), they also have interesting flavors that I've never seen before (Candy Cane, Key Lime Pie, Taro). I love how their products are displayed - they are really pretty and fun. You can get your selection in a cup or a waffle cone. They also have extra toppings available, like caramel sauce, rainbow sprinkles, whipped cream, etc. There are several tables inside where you can sit down and eat. I think their gelato is really creamy and tastes great. (By the way, they don't use liquid nitrogen anymore). It is made in small batches with fresh, natural ingredients. I like to get Strawberry and Banana Chocolate Chip or Pistachio and Cherry Mania. You can ask for a sample if you want to try something. One night we spent some time talking to the owner. He is a very sweet man and really interesting. It is clear that he is truly passionate about making high quality, authentic gelato. It was lovely to see a business owner who really cares about their product and their customers. read more

I think before Gelato Express was a nitrogen ice cream place. I recall coming here but I have never wrote a review for Gelato Express before. Well I came with a friend to have desserts. To my surprise this place has less seats than what I recalled before. Not sure if they renovated or decided to remove some seatings. Anyways...... So I did sample some ice cream flavors before deciding what to get. I sampled the cookie monster, Pistachio and Ferrero Rocher. I settled with the Pistachio and Ferrero Rocher - two scoops. 2 scoops of ice cream for $6.25 which was not too bad. That is the going rate for ice cream in Vancouver. I had it in a cup as well. So the flavor was very delicious. The reason why I didn't get the cookie monster flavor was because it looked like it had a lot of coloring and on top it was too buttery. I loved the ice cream and would highly recommend ice cream fans to give this place a try. Only issue, I had about this place is the seating. I ended up walking across to the Vancouver Library building and sat on the steps there. Or another option is to have the ice cream while walking. I highly recommend giving this ice cream place a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

The gelato was good and the portion was okay. However, one of the spoons broke when we tried to scoop the gelato; it was shocking and scary because we might hurt ourselves and bleed (What if the broken pieces of the spoon get into the gelato?). This never happened before at other gelato places using the same spoons. They should use the good quality spoons (stronger and larger) for the safety of both the staff and the customers because their gelato is denser. The server came out from the back when the spoon was broken. We did not know if he was spying on us. P.S. They should change the paintings on the wall because the people in the paintings do not look happy. Would you want to look at people who look away from you especially when you try to enjoy the gelato? read more

$11 for a double scoop! it's ridiculously overpriced and scoops are small compare to other gelato places. taste is okay but doesn't worth to pay $11 for a double scoop. there are many other gelato places way more reasonable price, bigger size and better taste. read more

Felt like a little treat so I went in and got one. Their display of gelato was really pretty and all the flavors looked really good. My favorite flavor has always been strawberry since I was a kid so, I had to try the strawberry and let me tell you I've had bad strawberry gelato before. This one was actually really good! I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. I'll definitely come back and try the other flavors or might just end up getting more strawberry. The staff was friendly! If you are willing to splurge on an ice cream cone, this is the place to be! I went there three times and I only ever had the matcha flavoured gelato. The matcha gelato is moderately sweet and is topped off with bits of mochi, along with a light sprinkle of matcha powder. Such a delight!! After placing my order, I was able to see the gelato come into life within a few minutes. It gave me the impression of being in a chemistry class after witnessing the liquid milk and liquid nitrogen added to the mixer. Unfortunately there is one down side to this gelato... it melts quite rapidly and might start dripping within seconds. read more

The liquid nitrogen ice cream here is of very high quality and definitely comparable to Mister! They have a large variety of flavours and plenty of seating. I had the pistachio and it the flavour was very rich while the ice cream was nice and creamy. They also give you a very large portion if you get it in a cup. Overall, I think Gelato Express N2 is much better than it's predecessor, as they focus more on quality and less on gimmicks. Definitely check this place out if you're in the area! read more

I've been on an ice cream and gelato binge lately. I came here when it was Lik and I didn't really enjoy it but I thought I would give this place another chance. They use the same nitrogen concept for the gelato. They have the flavours posted on the wall and the prices range from 7-9$ which is quite pricey. I got the 8$ strawberry cheesecake flavour and i thought it would be strawberry ice cream with cheesecake but instead, it was almost like a plain vanilla gelato with strawberry jam sauce on top and small crumbles which I almost choked on because the pieces were so small and dusty. The gelato didn't have much flavour but it was very cold. When I first received it, the gelato was so lopsided and i honestly thought it was going to fall if I didn't eat it fast enough. I finished it not because it was delicious but because I don't like wasting food. I would rather spend my money to get either a double or triple scoop of gelato some place else. read more

5 stars for service, presentation and quantity of gelato received! Loved the liquid nitrogen display as the gelato was being prepared. Did you know that the gelato starts in liquid form in the Kitchen Aid mixer? After adding the liquid nitrogen and letting the mixer do it's thing for a couple minutes - the result is some freshly made gelato! We ordered a cup of pistachio and another of mango. Both tasted great! And the portions were huge! The pistachio was topped with chopped pistachios and the mango - with chunks of mango. A small wafer was also added to both to complete the dessert. I only wish they had more dairy-free options - as of now their sorbets are limited to lemon and dark chocolate. Price is kinda steep $7-$8 but I guess the quantity makes up for it. Although it would be nice to have the option of ordering a smaller size too. read more
