This is a window for Japanese-style crepes and soft serve ice cream attached to Konbiniya. The quality of the ice cream itself is okay - the texture is good, but the flavour is a little weak. When getting the matcha ice cream, I suggest getting straight matcha instead of the twist with vanilla because the vanilla washes out the matcha; it comes through better on its own. The sundaes are fun and a good, more affordable alternative to the similar parfaits at high end matcha cafes. I tried the tuna egg salad crepe and thought it was actually really good! The crepe was fresh and tender, there was a healthy amount of filling, and the tuna salad was actually mostly tuna with just enough mayo to hold it together which is how I prefer it. Again, the service is just through a window - you actually order at an electronic kiosk and the only interaction with a person is when your order is ready. There are two small tables outside if you want to eat there. I been to this place 2 years ago and really like them so I decided to go back here when I'm in the area. Unfortunately, the things I got this time was somewhat disappointing. Inside the cute little Japanese grocery store on Robson, you can indule in delicious soft serve and other Japanese treats (I spotted $3.99 for Takoyaki - uh yum! - but we spotted it too late sadly). I've always loved stopping by Konbiniya for groceries and snacks and sometimes, I would also get an ice cream or crêpe to go :) Food: 5/5 I've included three different ice creams that I've tried. Yuzu soft serve ・ This ice cream is only available during summertime. Yuzu is a Japanese citrus fruit and it's sour, light, and VERY refreshing. It makes sense that you have to wait until summer for it. It's absolutely perfect on a hot day. I recommend getting it in a different cone or a cup though because the waffle cone has a sweetness that doesn't really suit the yuzu flavor well. Vanilla ice cream with strawberry whip crêpe ・ You can't go wrong with vanilla ice cream and strawberries. The combination is so good! The crêpe itself is very soft and light. It did stick to the paper a bit, so be careful while you eat it. Regardless of that, I would still eat it anytime. Kinako soft serve ・ SO DELICIOUS. Kinako is roasted soybean powder and it usually goes on mochi and other wagashi, but I love the way it tastes with the creamy vanilla ice cream. There's also swirls of kuromitsu (black sugar syrup) which is always perfect with nutty kinako. If it was easy to find kuromitsu, I would be eating this at home. It's that good. Staff: 5/5 They're always so nice and welcoming, and seem to care a lot about making a perfect treat for their customers. Atmosphere: 3.5/5 They have two spots to order: outside (ice cream) and inside (savory food). Inside, there's a bench where you can eat and wait for your food. It's quite loud since it's also a store, but I don't mind. There aren't tables outside, but the ice cream and crêpes are street food, so you can take it on the go or stand outside. I like this though. It's nice to walk down Robson and window shop with ice cream or a snack. Price: 5/5 The yuzu soft serve is $3.80, the crêpe is $7.49, and the kinako soft serve is $4.99. The prices are quite low for what you're getting. The crêpe might seem like a lot, but it's big and has lots of fillings. You could even share it with another person. There's a lot of ice cream spots on Robson so Bon Crepe might get overlooked, but please give it a chance. They have an extensive menu and everything looks good. Tried the matcha parfait and it was so refreshing on a hot summer day! This location has a convenient walk up window for you to order your dessert rather than walking inside the store. Prices for their crepes are slightly pricier than other places. They have to occasionally make more of the matcha flavor due to high demand, so don't be surprised if you have to wait. The matcha flavored yogurt wasn't as creamy as I expected it to be and I definitely had better elsewhere in California, but it was nonetheless good. (Gunther's in Sacramento, CA serves the BEST green tea ice cream!) The parfait comes with a wafer, red beans, vanilla ice cream, green tea cake and corn flakes on the bottom of the cup. They are attached to the Japanese candy/pocky grocery market, Konbiniya, which I didn't realize the last time I was in Vancouver. I was hoping for something similar to the awesome ones I had in San Francisco, at a place called Genki Crepes.That place is LEGIT. I settled for a poor man's version instead: - Green tea ice cream with red bean ($4.72) - the green tea was good but the crepe was flimsy and didn't have a good crispy texture or taste to it. It kind of was just there to hold the green tea ice cream and red bean. I should have ordered one of their green tea parfaits instead, which looked waaaay better. Quick note: We only had the matcha parfait, so this review does not reflect the quality of the crepes or other offerings provided. Yummmmm! Green tea + soft serve = A matcha made in heaven. I wouldn't expect to have a "sit down" experience here, as it's only a walk-by window located inside a Japanese-themed convenience store. The older gentleman serving the desserts was rather...gruff. He's not one for small talk, but he was accommodating enough to provide exact change in American currency. A gesture we very much appreciated as we were in the final hours of our stay in Canada. It takes them a bit of time to craft these desserts, so be prepared to wait for a bit if there's a line. Overall, the parfait was fantastic! I don't personally have a great deal of experience of matcha soft serve (it's just now starting to catch on in Portland), but the taste had just the right mix of matcha powder bitterness to make it taste green tea-like, while still maintaining enough sweetness to be considered soft serve ice cream. The texture was smooth and wasn't icy, like some of the cheaper quality soft-serves I've experienced. The sponge cake and tapioca's textures were also spon on. I would definitely return again if I were a resident, but would probably just get the matcha soft serve on its own.
