The best way to visit this restaurant is by taking the Duquesne Incline from the bottom of the cliff side up to the top. Once you are at the top of the Duquesne Incline then this restaurant is a few steps away. The views up here are spectacular that look back at Pittsburgh. It's probably best to go at sunset so you can see daytime and nighttime views. The restaurant is very pretty inside, but that's probably the best part. All of the food items we had were very average, at best. I do appreciate it being my first time to Pittsburgh and they gave us a windows seat with stunning views. To drink, I had a $19 Reverse Psychology. I thought it was just alright. Not great, not bad. As an appetizer we had the $18 meatballs. They were fine, but nothing special. Then, we split a $14 iceberg wedge. This was probably the best item of the night, if I had to choose one. For my main entree I had the $46 chicken breast. Average at best. My mom thought her $48 salmon was also very average. And lastly, the side of $5 mushrooms were ok. Overall, great views, but the food is extremely average.

Such a beautiful restaurant with an amazing view of Pittsburgh, the bridges, college, and baseball field. I wanted to catch the sunset, but I had been at the Pirates game earlier that day . The service was great and our server was super informative and walked us through the entire menu. The caviar and lobster bisque were delicious, and the tomahawk was so good I forgot to even take a picture lol . Definitely a beautiful spot for a date night, celebration, or special evening!

The wait staff are superb! The atmosphere is close quarters and often felt like I was sitting with my neighbors. It was very noisy and difficult to have conversation. The food was good, not great. The views were the best part of the experience!

Fantastic! First, the view of the city is amazing --gorgeous esp at sunset. Service was excellent and the food and wine were delicious. Had the pork chop and it was heavenly. The popcorn was magic. Definitely add to list when in Pittsburgh. Can't wait to go back.

10/10 worth the visit. We were in town for a wedding and stayed a few extra days for some fun and chose Altius for our last nice meal and it was so worth it. We took the incline up and decided on Altius because it's just a few steps off the incline. The view, the drinks, the food, the service, everything was a 10/10 experience. Would def make a point to come back just to come here again. In the photo - Ahi Tuna in front and scallop special in back. In between us was the bread for the table they brought out which was absolutely delicious and came with specialty butter and sun dried tomatoes. The drink on the left was reverse psychology which again was delicious. Drink behind (you can barely see but it's pinkish) was the you've guava be kidding me - though I personally don't really like grapefruit I did taste it and it was actually really tasty.

Wow! This place has it all! Beautiful location with a great view of downtown Pittsburgh and the rivers. Very attentive service. And super delicious food. Our cocktails were subdued but very tasty. First we were served a pea soup shooter--we all wanted a whole bowl. Then a couple of appetizers--the 'compressed pineapple' with frisse was interesting with a flavorful dressing, but not too sweet. I got the special, seared tuna with a shrimp over udon noodles and a Hoisin sauce with some sort of wasabi. Again, the flavors were unique but not overpowering. Also got the chicken with couscous and peas. Sounds plain but it was anything but plain. The other mains were just as good. We finished off with three desserts. The carrot cake got rave reviews from my dining partners (not my style). The Creme Brulle was very large and perfectly cooked. But the best dessert was the deconstructed Smore. The chocolate, the merengue, the graham crumbs, a little ice cream. Oh, I'm going to be dreaming of this dessert for a long time! The price is also quite high for pittsburgh standards--over 100/person--but well worth it for a special occasion!

We were in town to celebrate my husbands birthday! He picked this restaurant and it did not disappoint! It felt high class. The staff were friendly and went above and beyond. The food was amazing. They serve popcorn as a pre appetizer. Then rolls. Then even sent us home with small desserts after we had our main desserts. 10/10. Couldn't say enough about this place! We came after dark and could see all the lights of downtown Pittsburgh. We just wish we could've had a window seat. But sadly they don't take requests for that. It was still a nice view from our seat though. They did offer the group next to us to eat their dessert next to the window though! Very nice of them!

FIRST TIME: Took my boyfriend for his bday dinner there! And let me tell you, they didn't disappoint! Service and food was amazing! Fancy, chill atmosphere, nice scenic view of the city. It's super nice! Will go again !! Xoxo (He was thrilled)

I had a fantastic experience at this amazing restaurant--maybe Pittsburgh's finest--but a few things left me unsettled that I want to just warn diners about. First, the service was impeccable. Our waitress took exceptional care of my friends and me and made our celebration so special. She was funny, caring, and extremely attentive. The definition of perfect service! Our initial struggle came when we arrived. For our reservation and the table wasn't ready. Truly no worries, we were happy to walk to the overlook and admire the city. I wish we had been offered a place to sit at the bar or something--we did have to wait over 20 minutes. Again, a minor issue, but one I wish had been handled differently. The food had a few quality issues that are not acceptable for a restaurant at this price point. Some items were absolute smashed (the intro popcorn, the crab toast, and the chocolate dessert were massive standouts). Some things critically missed the mark. The meatball special came cold with congealed cheese inside. The lamb was tough, fatty, and poorly executed overall. The halibut special was $70 and came with a cold and broken sauce. Some of the sides also missed the mark. For a fine dining establishment, these issues did negatively impact the experience pretty significantly--especially for a meal that came in over $500. Would I come back here? Absolutely. Is it one of the best restaurants in Pittsburgh? For sure. But is it worth the price point? Probably not. With a few fixes, I would definitely give five stars.

We went to this restaurant on a Friday night for dinner. The view is beautiful from the restaurant. We started with the pineapple salad which had some amazing flavors. They had gluten free bread for me which was fresh and warm. The aperitif was a cauliflower soup which cleansed our palette. The dinner was the pork chop in the photo. Truly amazing! Service was excellent impeccable. A definite must in Pittsburgh

To comment on the food, I feel would be to discount the view. To comment on the view, would discount the environment and stellar service. It is literally impossible to go wrong here. Everything from the menu, to the house drinks, to the timing and food quality is just off the charts! The reverse psychology drink is velvety, and not sweet, but no alcohol burn. From there, the meatballs, the crab toast, and then a well crafted crust on an expertly cooked ribeye. It literally doesn't get better for a night. Staff and timing were pleasant and impeccable. You want an insane view while you have a fantastic meal? Go here. Eat. Gawk. Smile!

Need to know: outside is truly unassuming it's next to the ww1monument after the gate and lift if you're facing the monument and lift it's to the left. Parking is on the street or parking lot across the street for $12. I can't recommend this place enough. The service was incredible and they made each table feel truly catered to. SHOUT OUT TO ANGIE!!!! Our server was just the absolute best. She went over everything thoroughly and was very attentive. The manager came and checked on each table throughout the night and nothing took too long to come out of the kitchen. Throughout the dinner the kitchen gave little food gifts to enjoy which made us feel special haha. The food was SPECTACULAR! The chef truly knows what she is doing and the rich flavor was present in EVERYTHING that came out. The atmosphere was elevated and enjoyable. They made great choices with regards to lighting, and maximizing the windows and their effect! The whole dinner was truly a fine dining EXPERIENCE. Every person I saw walking out had a big smile on their faces. Everyone enjoyed themselves and I don't think one person felt that they gave more than they received here. The price is worth it, trust me. It was the absolute highlight to our trip. We ordered: the spicy crab bisque, Australian lamb rack with a side of chimi churri, filet mignon with a side of crab, nutty by nature, chai icecream, and banana dessert. For drinks we ordered: summer sangria, the non alcoholic fresh-start, and rose prosecco. After dinner drinks we ordered espresso and decaf cappuccino. Everything was spectacular! Only constructive criticisms: the biscotti served with our cappuccino/espresso wasn't so great/enjoyable. The spicy bisque was a little too spicy for me but the flavors otherwise were incredible! Personal opinion: I found the graffiti art to be misplaced it didn't flow with the rest of the ambiance or decor...Though still a nice piece.

I think this is my favorite fancy restaurant in Pittsburgh! I like how they give you a little snack before your meal. It used to be an olive thing, and most recently it's popcorn. There's a nice view, and you can dress up to dine here. The dessert is beautiful (pictured).

Is this a specific dress code?

Their website says that business-casual clothing is required.

Do they have walk up bar seating?

    Yes.

Are kids under 3 welcomed? We're going with a 3 year old and a 1 year old

I don't think they could turn you away... but it really isn't the kind of place to take babies and toddlers.

Does this restaurant have a dress code for patrons? i.e., do I need to wear a sports coat or shirt and tie?

Don't wear shorts. I wore a polo and dress shorts on a 100 degree day and was turned away even with a reservation.

LOVED our dinner at this place…read more We came here for dinner while visiting Pittsburgh. The first thing that struck me was the interior decor. Very industrial and moody with an open kitchen/preparation area that adds some intrigue. I do like to see the happenings of what's going on as someone with zero attention span. Service was excellent. George was fantastic. He kept a close eye on us without being overbearing. He anticipated what we might need so we didn't spend one second waiting to order anything. The menu is not endless or overwhelming which, presumably, allows them to focus on the items that are listed. I have decision panic so it was kinda nice to have less things to choose from. They asked if there were any allergies or dietary restrictions so I mentioned my vegetarianism. George went through the menu and pointed out the vegetarian options including what seems like it is vegetarian but isn't. They had TWO vegetarian entree options and fortunately the non-mushroom one was something I probably would have ordered anyway: pesto with walnuts, arugula, and a very generous amount of grated cheese. To start, I ordered the Brussels sprouts whichc I was warned had fish sauce. This was fine but nothing that blew me away. GF, on the other hand, loved this. GF ordered the wedge which was brought to our attention as vegetarian with the bacon on the side, which was her request. We ended up sharing both, a large part of that was because hers came out first and I couldn't wait but I'm so glad because the wege was FANTASTIC. The dressing? holy fuck pure ecastasy. The wedge was more like a filet shape which was much easier to eat. Who decided on the wedge shape anyway? The lettuce was so fresh and crisp and went wonderfully with that orgasmic dressing and breadcrumbs. Back to my pasta. Also delectable. Noodles were al dente. The sauce was creamy and packed that pesto umami flavor. The walnuts were a really nice contrast in texture. Everything about it absolutely fucking slapped. GF ordered the mushroom entree which came served on a bed of barley which, don't mind if I do, had a few forkfuls to "sample" for "my review". Again, so fucking good. Because it was my birthday, George provided a dessert (yuzu maybe?) that was served inside a meringue-esque igloo, creamy perfect balance of sweet and tart custard with some berry business underneath. Wonderful. I almost forgot their spectacular cocktails! Holy shit, literally they have a CORN CHIP cocktail that I could not pass up. It comes with two massive cornchips on top of a flavored foam. When you bring the glass up to sip, the cornchips are right in front of your nose and their aroma sets the stage for the drink which was STRONG. It wasn't as corn chip forward as I expected but I understand that flavor is probaly hard to create. For my second drink, I ordered the blue one which was refreshing, light, and really good. GF ordered a spritz which was gorgeous "it was good". For second round, I picked out some uranium thing that was very cucumbery, GF says, "it was good". I just read it outloud to her. "it's true!" Fantastic meal at a great place.

BEST PITTSBURGH WING…read more We were absolutely not expecting this and still can't believe it. We didn't have major expectations but hoped it would be at least a top 5 wing and average meal. It was beyond that The French onion soup we saw online and everyone seemed to enjoy that. We're whores for it so had to get. I like mine a tad bit salty which this was and PACKED with onion chunks and breaded leeks on top. It was impossible to get a spoon fully without any inclusions. My new favorite The Tavern Burger. I'm coming fresh off 9 years without 5 Guys (elite) and this rocked me harder than that. This isn't a stupid smash burger. We got a juicy COOKED PERFECT RARE 8oz patty, topped with sautéed onions, and bacon that isn't crisped to smithereens. I like my bacon medium rare and that's exactly what I got. Then covered in one of the craziest sauces I have ever had, their gorgonzola cream. I could drink that by the gallon The wings.... I have never had a wing itself cooked more perfect in my life. The smoke and meatiness on them was so nailed that I could get 2 dozen plain and still have the same reaction. We got the Buffalo Garlic and Dry Cajun Ranch. These wings don't need drenched in sauce by any means or it would honestly ruin it. The buffalo doesn't ned to be creamy either. Perfect amount of sauce to cheese ration. The dry cajun ranch was a fucking knockout. For how great the wing is I would love to see more dry season options with them Cam got a Tavern Dip. I hate dips. I loved the shaved ribeye on it and horseradish, but I have never been an Au Jus man. Would 100000% eat it without the au jus Then the fries. Always team psoriasis through and through. Not sure if I'm coming off the Five Guys high but their cajun boardwalk style are even better. Get some spicy honey aioli to dip them in. Truly just shocked at how amazing this place is. Right over the bridge and cannot recommend enough going here before a game and walking over. Great spot right before, after and during sports. Unfortunately that's were the good ends. First and always foremost, how was the food? An absolutely mess. Impossible to enjoy bc the sandwich falls apart immediately, simply can not pick up without losing everything inside, and greasy as all get out. I should have expected this to an extent, but a nearly $20 grilled cheese at a place that "specializes" in them, I would hope could do better than this. Service was very, very slow despite many open seats. The part that probably sent it over the top was the plate runner constantly spilling the tomato soups everytime they brought out someone's meal. Mine dripped all of the ground as he sat it down, my wife's got on her tray so the bread was just mushy on the bottom, and we saw it constantly as he walked by delivering others. Cool idea, cool location, but the rest was just bad.
