Haven't been for several years, but I used to like going to this tailor. Now... never again. I think the issue is there's a new owner. I took in some black suit pants that needed letting out after not wearing them for several years (I've expanded a bit), and the guy who helped me was friendly and helpful. But when I picked up the pants and got them home, I noticed that they'd made a small hole near the butt seam and patched it up. Fortunately, I plan on wearing the suit jacket with the pants, so that'll cover it up, but the pants are basically ruined. And they never said a thing about it. I mean, own up to your mistakes. If they had any integrity, they would have not only not charged me but paid me the cost to replace them. You want to take your chances with this tailor? Go ahead. And good luck. read more

Anthony did such an amazing job on my dress. I gave it to him 4 days before New Years Eve and he was able to get it done for me the day before New Years eve. It wasn't an easy task but he got it done so beautifully. My dress originally came with a open back with ties like a corset which I didn't like cause I'm so petite the dress would just fall :( right when Anthony saw it he said he can make it into a zipper closure instead and that's exactly what he did. I will say the alteration was definitely expensive but because it was New Year's Eve I didn't mind and didn't try to haggle. He did such an amazing job will definitely come back for my more special event dresses but I think alterations here are a little expensive if you're just taking in some jeans or something simple. Been patronizing this place for decades starting with the previous owners who were lovely people. My "relationship" has just ended. Having now read some of Anthony's reviews, I think there are a lot of people that he doesn't like. And I don't think it's our problem, I think it's his. First problem: he tells me when the items will be ready but when I come back to pick up, on numerous occasions, the items are not ready. On several occasions, they weren't even ready the SECOND time he told me to come back. He thinks my time is worth nothing. No courtesy phone call; no apology; THREE trips to pick up one order. Second problem: he projects his bad attitude onto you. When I came in to pick up that last item that I had dropped off almost a month earlier, having returned for it now for the third time, I asked him if he'd like to give me a discount for the inconveniences and delay. (First time I'd ever asked for that.) That pushed him over the edge. He went off on how people leave things there for months and never pick them up. I told him that had never happened with me. (It hasn't.) He looked at me like I was crazy (probably for the benefit of the guy behind me). Then he told me to take the item (which was part of a referral friend's order) and leave. He continued his rant by saying that hopefully I didn't scare away the customer behind me in line (as if that would be my fault somehow). Tried to talk to him calmly; he couldn't do it. On and on he went about zippers and other things that had nothing to do with me. I asked him if he'd rather I not return, and he said yes. I hope potential customers who read this decide not to give him the opportunity to abuse them. People: search for a place that'll treat you with respect even if they're in a bad mood. I've should've done that decades ago. To be upfront, he did not ask me to pay for that last item (but he didn't say it apologetically or even nicely) Unfortunately, he's a Jekyll-and-Hyde kind of guy. Sometimes he's as nice as can be, other times he is SO rude. As far as the quality of his work: he did a good job for me the first time on most items. read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER,. Dropped off two pairs of pants for hem on Saturday, given ticket two pick up today Wednesday. I arrived at 12 the guy said give me 45 min. I went to store and returned 35min later. He said he was working on it. I told him to return my items. NOW HE SAID HE CAN'T FIND THEM. How The H cane he not find them if he's working on them. Last year I brought a dress in to get hemmed, the guy told me it would be ready in 4 days and that he'd steam the dress and all. Went in on the 4th day and the dress wasn't even moved from the place he put it when I left. When I finally got the dress 2 more days later it had chalk marks and all still on it. Oh well, one bad experience-- I didn't let it stop me from trying again. Then Saturday morning (just yesterday) I show up at opening hour of 9am waited outside almost 10 min, no one there. I left and found a shop off Tustin and Taft. I would say this place is highly unreliable. Don't go unless you do not have time/ service expectations. read more

Took a new pair of suit pants in Monday afternoon to be hemmed. The gentleman was quit to greet me, get me into a dressing room, sized my pant leg, let me confirm it was good, told me it would be $9 and ready Wednesday. Wednesday, I was running late, so called and checked to see what time they closed, 6pm. Good, I make that. I told him I'll be buy to pick up my pants before then. 5:56, after every conceivable traffic challenge, I made it just in time. The same gentleman greeted me, I asked for my pants, he asked for my phone number to confirm they were mine, I paid. I left. All is good. Only little funny thing, it was $9, I gave him a $20, he didn't have any ones, and no spare change except a nickel and a 50 cent piece. So I gave him a 45 cent tip. Probably the best experience I ever had with any business owner. I just went in to see if they could fix a hole in a new t-shirt I just bought. The gentlemen at the counter said, "Sure, hold on." He went to the back, put my shirt under a sewing machine, and after a couple of runs under the needle, he returned with my shirt good as new...well I mean it was already new so, newer than new, I guess? Anyway, you get the point. I asked how much and said to me, "Don't worry about it." Jaw dropped. Can this be? Quick and free service? Now, I am assuming this doesn't mean everyone with small holes in their new t-shirts can drop by and expect the same service. That said, I now know where to go for all my future alterations. This guy knows customer service. If you read any of my previous reviews, you know I am a stickler about customer service. So you know when I say this guy is amazing, you can take that to the bank. So here is my story, I ordered a dress for my brothers wedding on line (very last minute) the dress arrived the week of the wedding and the length delivered was wrong!! With no time to return it and wait for another to be delivered I rushed to find an alteration location to fix my huge problem. The customer service here was great the moment I walked through the door, I was given the attention to every detail needed to make sure the dress would fit as if it were made for me. (5'3 NOT 5'9) In record time I picked up my dress and it was perfect. The tailor was able to fix not only the length, but the shoulder area as well so it wouldn't droop. Anthony is the only person I have dealt with at the Alteration Center (he is not the owner) and he is both really friendly and very professional. He has helped me on more than one occasion tailor more than one type of garment, and has always delivered on time and with fantastic quality. I always appreciate his consultation and advice. 4.5 STARS: $35 for shortening length I brought a very special yellow gown to tailor here. The measure is PERFECT - .5 stars for a snag. I brought it in on Saturday and was told I'd be ready Tuesday, however I didn't get to picking it up until Wednesday. When I turned it in the dress still had the tag on- it makes me feel like they'll treat my dress nicer if they're reminded how much they'd owe me if they messed it up, lol. When I got it back: The new length was SPOT ON The fit was PERFECT The tag had been removed (not a big deal) The dress was snagged from the back- my guess: from where the tag use to hang. This is a Mom and Pop shop and I love that. Accidents happen and I didn't make a big deal out of it. It did hurt a little because it is an expensive dress and the snag runs horizontally for about 4 inches, but it's on the upper back and I'm hoping the perfect length will draw ppl's eye away. read more

My fiance took her wedding dress here to have some alterations done. Not once, not twice, but three times she was called by the shop to tell her the dress was ready, only to come down and be told that it wasn't. Who goes out of their way to call someone to tell them to come in if the dress isn't actually ready? There were no apologies. No reparations. Just attitude and an appointment to come in the next week. This has gone on for almost a month. Our wedding is in a few days and this guy can't seem to get his stuff together. Fast forward to today. My fiance goes down there, yet again, only to find that the alterations he said were completed were done incorrectly. The layers of the dress were all off and the hemming wasn't done correctly. She has to come back later today to pick it up. Mind you, this is something he initially said was supposed to be done 3 weeks ago. If this shop comes recommended to you, don't use it. The person who's recommending it is probably thinking of the previous owners. By all accounts, they were good people. This guy is just a jagoff. He doesn't deserve your business. There are plenty of other wonderfully talented and cordial tailors out there. Don't waste your time here. read more

They were the only place that said I can come in and he said he can fix it. All the other places told me they couldn't fix it on the same day. I went to get a skirt taken in since it was a couple sizes too big and a little too long. The day I picked up the skirt I didn't have a chance to try it on since they were closing for the day no big deal I happily paid, tipped and was on my way. Once I tried on the skirt however I was so disappointed. I used to love bringing my clothes here to be altered. The nicest ladies were always at the counter. I don't know if they changed ownership but the last time I went in there was a man who was working the counter. To say he was rude, unprofessional and a total jerk would be putting it mildly. I asked if he could get something done sooner than quoted (I was willing to pay more). He gave me the dirtiest look and said "Look at how busy we are (pointing to the workers slaving away)! Does it look like we can?" Ummm, ok. There IS a better way to say it! Nevertheless, I took my dress and left. Found out then that my dry cleaners does alterations. read more

The quality of the tailoring here is above average, but it's definitely not good enough to have to deal with the primadonna personality that is the owner of the shop. Seriously, he's like out of a Seinfeld Soup Nazi episode. I'm not sure what type of psychological trauma he has had to endure over the course of his lifetime, but whatever if was, it surely has left him incapable of any decent human interaction. In fact, I see the workers in the back cringe every time he has to interact with a customer--it's just a matter of time before the caged gorilla comes out to attack the customers. If you are lucky enough for the owner to have stayed home because his social-interaction anxiety meds left him bed-ridden that day, then you might actually have a good experience there. The guys in the back are decent human beings, although they are unfortunately working for a monster. If you are like the other 99% of customers and have to deal with the owner, don't ask any questions, take three steps in with your head pointed down, make no eye contact, put your cash on the desk, grab your stuff, then run out. Or just find a different shop, which is my solution from here on out. read more

Believe the good reviews!!! I came here after reading reviews in the area and after taking advantage of their yelp deal. This place is old school, cash only, and the nice woman who owns the shop typically had children spending time with her as she worked. It's adorable! I brought my Vera wang bridesmaid dress here to be altered SEVERELY after purchasing it from a bridal shop out of state. For some reason the smaller size I tried on at a local store was a huge leap behind the next one up. I needed it to be made almost a whole size smaller and to be altered into a knee length outdoor worthy frock. I stupidly chose to fall in love with a floor-length gown. Plus it was made out of lots of light pink layers of chiffon! I sound like a crazy nut - I know. The woman here didn't bat an eye at all. In the words of the wonderful Barney, she was all about, "challenge accepted". Even more coincidental, she happened to already be altering the same dress for another customer! How lucky was I! They even worked with me after the first round of alterations to shorten it again! Great experience here. And reasonably affordable. Only advice to heed (that I originally read on another yelp review) is that she will make happen WHATEVER you say. So be certain what you request will look good, especially if majorly changing a garment. I should have taken it up even shorter and let it flare a little but she's a tailor - not a fashion designer. All in all it was tailored beautifully and looked great with the other dresses. I'll go here again next time I know what I need done. read more

Alteration Center! Where have you been all my life?!?!?! In a nutshell, this place is terrific. First of all, it is owned and operated by a mother/daughter team. They are friendly, courteous, knowledgeable. They remembered my name and greeted me warmly after one visit. I don't want to talk too much trash on another business, but I will say that Alteration Center fixed the mistakes of Mr. Angotti of Angotti's tailor shop, who claims to be an "old school Italian pro". They are also about 25% cheaper than him and about 100% more friendly. Enough about him though! Basically, this place is great because they are reasonably priced, do quality work, and have excellent customer service. If that doesn't appeal to you, then by all means, go somewhere else! If it does sound good, then seriously get over there, like, NOW, and don't waste your time with anyone else. I personally promise you will be happy with the work and the price! A friend recommended this place for gown alterations.. so I brought a gown here to have taken in at the waist. The dress was heavily beaded which worried me just a bit but they did a wonderful job. The lady was super friendly and helpful. BTW- prices are very reasonable. I figured I would be spending more than twice what I actually did. When I went to pick up the dress, I went to yelp for the heck of it and discovered they were offering a Yelp deal. Win! This place is kinda far from Los Angeles but if I ever have an expensive gown that requires altering I will be back! read more

The alterations center is the only place I trust with my expensive office pieces because they always maintain the integrity of the garment, yet make it fit perfectly. I had my wedding dress fitted here. I showed her a picture of how I wanted it to look, and I brought my cousin in multiple times for her opinion. Even though I was frustrated and came many times to make adjustments, we finally got it right. We got it perfect in fact. Only complaint is that I went during the end of summer and it was always hot getting into my dress. They only had a fan for cooling, which is what one can expect from the discounted prices she charges. It was less than half what most other places were asking. If it was possible to give negative stars I would. Took a wedding dress in, was given a pick up date it wasn't ready. Came back at later time and it was "ready"...took the dress to a restoration cleaner and found that one side of the dress and boning was no longer stitched together (this was where the repairs were said to have been done). Brought the dress back to have it fixed again. Came to pick up dress as scheduled, it was not ready. Was told to wait 10mins and it would be fixed. Hoping the dress will hold together for the wedding day. They have poor customer service, poor tailoring and poor scheduling skills. I wouldn't take anything there to be altered or repaired. read more
