I used to love, love, love this place. Went for years. But sadly today was my last trip. They have always been ridiculously strict about uncharging for absolutely everything (different type of bread, different type of cheese, egg white vs regular, even changes that make things cheaper for them, etc) but I was willing to tolerate it as the food was good. But it has gotten significantly more expensive and today, when I wanted to use my own tea bag (they only provide lipton-- yuck) they wanted to charge me for the hot water they provided something in me just...broke. It's enough to pay around $20 for eggs, too much to be charged for hot water. I tried to discuss the owner but she totally believes charging for tap water (water!) so I realized it is just not the place for me. read more

This is definitely my go-to weekend brunch spot with my friends - especially for the mimosas. But get there early as it gets crowded fast and the wait ends up being super long. My all-time favorite would have to be the steak and eggs. Although the corn beef hash is the runner-up. Definitely a must try in Worcester. In my tour of the restaurants-in-worcester-worth-eating-in I had been meaning to hit Altea's Eatery for brunch because it's high up on yelp's ranking. Slipping through without awkwardly standing outside is not likely to happen on Sunday at noon so heading over at 2pm seemed like a better choice. Classically uber effed me over and at 2pm when I requested a ride to Altea's (boozy brunch, obv) they found someone TWELVE minutes away. The pressure mounted to arrive at a reasonable time before closure at 3pm. We eventually arrived at unfortunately about 2:30. Much to my delight there were only like two tables seated so obviously no waiting. The host seated us but made VERY clear that the place closed at 3pm so we had to get our shit together QUICK. We were seated and greeted by our server who made no such mention of the closing time. We ordered our bevs (T-balls ordered a bloody as usual and I a mango mimosa). While contemplating our actual meal, panic set in. By this time it was 2:40. Would we be escorted out at 3pm because it was closing time? The host was very aggressive about the timeline and made it seem like instead of the kitchen casually closing at 3pm we had to GTFO by that time. Should we just finish our drinks and go somewhere else to eat in a relaxed fashion instead of force-feeding ourselves with home fries in 5 min? The waitress returned and her calm presence indicated we were fine on time. Also we specifically asked and she specifically told us we were fine on time. The breakfast/lunch menu has eggs about fifty thousand ways in addition to sandwiches, salads, and CREPES. I ordered the vegetable harvest omelette with zucchini, spinach, goat cheese, tomato, and roasted red peppers. This comes with a side of home fries and a baguette slice. The goat cheese in this and the combo of stuffings were BOMB. My only qualm is that the egg did not seem to be cooked enough, there was actually a pool of suspicious liquid within a crater on the top of the 'lette. This kinda grossed me out, I like my shit well done and, yes, I should have requested that. It didn't stop me from eating almost everything except that mysterious crater. The home fries were pretty good as well and that baguette slice? What do you think? Tinasaurus ordered the grilled cheese with boursin and brie cheeses with a tomato on bread grilled to perfection with the glisten of butter on the surface. I tried this myself and the cheese selection is definitely unusual and provides for a very creamy grilled cheese. I'm not particularly fond of tomatoes in GC because I want absolutely NO DISTRACTIONS from the cheese, but that's my preference. The fries that accompany the sandwich were crisp but they were lacking in something. My GF absolutely loved them and would probably prefer to cuddle them instead of me at night so I guess I better watch myself. I think our first impression that we received from the hostess just left a bad taste in my mouth. I work about 70 hours a week as a resident and I completely get trying to leave work on time but either seat people and allow them to enjoy their time or don't seat them at all. read more

We've been checking out new-to-us breakfast joints since moving back to Worceser in June. After readings the reviews and ratings for Altea's, I had high hopes. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. We arrived and struggled to find where to park. The Parking sign led to a lot behind the building clearly marked NOT for restaurants. Okay... Fortunately, we found a street spot close by since it was raining. We were seated immediately, which was great. (Sweet spot on Sunday - 9:30am!) As I took my seat, I stepped on something that turned out to be broken glass. Good thing I was wearing thick-soled shoes. I also banged my shoulder into a sawed-off pipe jutting out of the brick wall. Uh, okay... As we were reviewing the menu, we heard another server tell her table about specials for the morning. When our server (Tori) came back to the table, we asked her about the specials. Her response: "Yeah, they're on the board over there." You mean the board (a) we didn't see when we were so promptly seated and (b) we still couldn't see because it was not visible to about 75% of the patrons? That board? My apologies - my x-ray vision is not fully functional this morning. She tried to remember what the TWO specials were and kept changing what she was saying to the point that we gave up and stuck to our original choices from the regular menu. The food came out super fast. G chose the french toast. The photo is below, and the menu description reads as follows. It arrived with walnuts, not candied pecans. Pain Perdu (Heavenly French Toast) ~ 11.99 Brioche bread, macerated blueberries, candied pecans, and Chantilly cream I chose the Apple Crepes. The photo is below, and the menu description reads as follows. Apple Crêpe ~ 10.99 Caramelized apples, candied pecans Mine arrived with no nuts of any kind. I chose this in large part due to the candied pecans. When the server was close by, I stopped her and said, "I'm honestly not sure if I'm missing them or not, but I haven't found any pecans in this dish." Her response: "I'm not wearing my glasses so I can't see anything at all." She then continued to say it should have come with walnuts. I said, "It's supposed to come with candied pecans; that's part of why I ordered it. I don't care for walnuts." Apparently, they don't serve it that way anymore and just haven't bothered to update the menu. WTF? (As an aside, the table next to us asked for clarification on a menu item. The customer pointed to it, and Tori's response again was "I can't see any of that. I don't have my glasses. You'll have to read it to me." If part of your job is to respond to customers' questions about your menu and the food served, MAYBE you should have your damn glasses with you?!) When I'm shelling out $11 for a breakfast dish, I kinda expect to get what I ordered as it appears on the menu. I didn't expect my breakfast to be comped, nor did I ask for it to be comped, but I did expect something more than "Too bad, so sad." The three stars are based on (1) fast seating, (2) fast delivery of food, and (3) G enjoyed his french toast. Still, we won't be going back. read more

We liked the ambiance, the service, and the food was fresh. As we were having breakfast the restaurant filled up with patrons most of whom seemed to be regulars. Lovely restaurant. I've eaten here twice and enjoyed great food and service each time. If you're in Worcester and are looking for a brunch spot, Altea's should definitely be on your list. I am impressed by the quality of the food as well as the quantity that you get with your orders. It's very apparent that they focus on quality as their menu is not huge, but that allows them to make very delicious food! Today I had the "monsieur omelette" which has ham, bacon, and gruyere cheese. The texture was perfect and it had plenty of meat and cheese. It came with a side of potatoes which were seasoned perfectly. One of the other aspects of this restaurant that makes it a 5-star review for me is the service. Everyone is so friendly and makes you feel welcome. Our waitresses have been quick, attentive, and warm, rich really makes me like the restaurant even more. Did not know what to expect but I noticed it was really crowded! Always a good sign :) The service was good and food came out at just at the right time. I got the bagel & lox and it was sooo delicious! The bagel was warm and soft on the inside and had a little crunch on the outside. Looking to stop somewhere quick on the way up to Maine and this hit the spot. Service was super quick and friendly, and the food was great! I had the tomato omelette. The only knock is the layout which puts tables directly next to a "bar" that is also the main thoroughfaire for the servers as well. The potatoes were very good, especially if you like caramelized onions, which i do. Plenty of parking. Less good news: The food lacked flavor and one of my poached eggs was overcooked. I learned about Aleta's from an online group and wanted to give it a try. Last minute meet up with some friends gave me the opportunity, and glad we did! I chose the spinach/kale salad with an overeasy egg and grilled chicken. Huge portion, chicken grilled perfectly, and delicious. Although I only had the jasmine tea, they did have a creative drink menu...maybe next time. Friends also had a great steak salad and the short ribs, all delicious. Hubby & I went for brunch on a Saturday afternoon and it was delicious!! The decor is modern and clean. The place had a great vibe full of friendly people. Food was fantastic and came out of the kitchen quick and hot. We had an omelet & Nutella crepes-so yummy!! The host promptly greeted us an sat us right away. Only negative was: We waited 5-10 mins before we flagged down a server, despite a few had just walked past us without acknowledging us. Wait time took about 30mins because it was crowded on Sun at 1pm. The staff was friendly tho, however my friend & I were told while being seated that the dining would be kept to 90mins & to keep our masks on until our drinks or food came. The people next to us & many in the restaurant didn't have masks on & they were happily chatting, not drinking or eating. We ordered alcoholic drinks & fish tacos, it was my first time ever trying fish tacos. The waitress said theirs were great for a breakfast place...now I have a standard to go by. We came on a Thursday afternoon for lunch last month. The place is popular, but we were able to be seated right away. We both opted for the chicken and waffles without the walnuts and mimosas. Everything was delicious and service was great. We also had the beignets. The beignets are more like donuts than the beignets you would expect to find in New Orleans. Since I was expecting New Orleans style beignets, I wouldn't order those again, but I'd definitely return to Altea's though! read more
