Went for a Valentine's Day brunch with friends! Food - incredibly good, I highly recommend the breakfast poutine. Lots of flavor and the kielbasa was amazing! My bf got the corned beef hash, he mentioned it was good but very dry. He was rather eating my plate more than his own. I would say the corned beef hash is interesting as it has homefries mixed in, which was a bit much for us. Service - quick, got us in and got all of our orders correct even with a full house. We waited approx. 40 mins for a table though for 6 people even though we were quoted 20 mins. Ambiance - the ambiance was good, it's a nice little restaurant and has nice waitresses/waiters. However, for such a busy place, there is literally no parking due to it being so packed. Also, they don't take reservations on weekends, which makes it even tougher. Typical American breakfast restaurant with some interesting items like this breakfast poutine. I originally asked for my eggs to be fried over medium and they came out so runny. I asked to redo the eggs and the new eggs were more cooked but was not medium. I think it's important for breakfast places to be able to cook an egg to the temperature requested. To start great downtown location with curbside seating. Parking is difficult so prepare for that. Service here was excellent and the food was great. Our first visit was better than second time so if I had to average both experiences it would be a 3.5 but since first visit was a 5 and second a 3 this past week it's a 4. Monday Labor Day was 1st visit and then again Thursday. Our waitress Monday was A+ but Thursday a 2.5. Reason is my coffee was not brought as she forgot and my side of bacon tasted overcooked left waiting to be picked up as brought over when we were done. Again I believe she forgot both but after reminding her twice we had brought to table. Harvest omelet day one was amazing but on Thursday dry and not so good. Stumbled upon this local spot while driving through Worcester and beyond lucky as found it. Parking is paid street parking or there are select free off street lots if you can find a spot. We had a 15 minute wait as it was fully packed so we ventured the surrounding stores and timed it perfectly. WOW! Everything from my latte to beignets was out of this world delicious. My latte was the perfect amount of bitter to sweetness from the caramel. I ordered the caramel apple crepes for a nice mid day snack. The crepes were crisp but fluffy and packed with flavor. The apples were perfectly sautéed inside and topped off with whipped cream and walnuts. My boyfriend ordered the braised short rib sandwich with home fries. It was a huge portion and the home fries came with mixed in fried onions. The short rib was tender and a well portioned amount. Our server Cara was an absolute delight. She was so charming and personable and checked in frequently for how crazy busy the restaurant was. We were stuffed and both had leftovers to take home but we could not resist ordering the sugared spice beignets. Highly recommend they were crunchy and soft and fluffy inside. The beignets come with a fresh strawberry sauce and whipped cream which were a great balance to the sugary sweetness. I really enjoy this place which is in the former Shiraz building (I miss Shiraz!)-- it's got a terrific menu and they cleaned the place up from the divey atmosphere Shiraz specialized in to give you a place you can take your mother in law or your best friend and you don't have to explain "but the food is really good here!". I love the Brunch Burger which has a great runny over easy egg on it-- the traditional breakfasts are very good too, sometimes there's a bit of a wait but it's worth it, plus you can get a nice walk in around Elm Park after to work off some calories. They move very efficiently. We tried the seasonal apple cider mimosa, it was ok. The rim really paired well with the drink. It was fun, but not sure I would get it again. We ordered two egg and steaks. I enjoyed the bread (a lot!), the egg and potatoes. The size of the steak was perfect, but I'm not sure the cut is the right one for this dish. It wasn't tough, but it wasn't tender either. I also didn't like the seasoning on the steak. It was a bit salty and overpowering of everything else. I wouldn't get again. The staff was friendly and attentive, the ambience was chill and that of a very busy brunch spot. I would come again and try something else off their menu. I freaking LOVE this place omg I would eat here everyday if I had the funds to. All the food is amazing and addicting and huge. So let's go one by one: *Popcorn chicken Benedict- crunchy and hot popcorn chicken with a (I think chipotle?) sauce. I always switch out the fries with a side salad which is an extra cost but it just goes so much better, the make the meal feel as heavy. *Corned beef Benedict- As you can see I love eggs Benedict in different fonts. Also very good, the eggs were indeed runny in this one. Beef is not too salty like how it sometimes is in corned beef. *Tres leches French toast- wow. I'm actually not too big of a sweet tooth, but this was perfect as dessert. It looks and sounds unbareably sweet, but surprisingly it's not as sweet as you would expect? But still sweet? Idk it was a good balance. I definitely couldn't eat this as my actual meal though, this should be reserved for dessert. *Breakfast poutine- My boyfriend got this one, it's pretty good. He really enjoyed it but personally I wouldn't order it for myself because it's very heavy and I would probably get heartburn. The only downside is that it can get pretty busy, and you may have to wait to get seated. Also since it's busy sometimes the waiters are frazzled and service is a bit slow so don't come here if you're in a rush. However that's not the waiters' fault, they are always very nice and trying their best! This made the service a bit slow, but the waitress was quite friendly so the slowness was easily overlooked. They serve breakfast and lunch. I had breakfast for lunch and it was nice to get a corned beef omelette at noon. It was slightly overcooked but still a hearty and pretty good meal. The side of potatoes was cooked and seasoned well, and the buttered baguette was soft and delicious. I also ordered a coffee with Baileys Irish Cream and it was excellent. Since I moved close by, I've heard of this place. Read great reviews....On this day, I had a nail appointment in the area. My nail tech recommended this establishment if I wanted something quick to take out since I couldn't dine in. She suggested the homemade biscuit sandwiches. I called and placed the order. When they answered they said hello about ten times, not exaggerating. It was so loud in there they couldn't hear me. I asked the person who answered the phone if they had any Turkey options. He wasn't sure so he handed the phone to a lady. She couldn't hear me either and I had to repeat myself about 5 times. She then stated no but they have chicken sausage. So I ordered THREE chicken sausage, egg and cheese on a biscuit. Total was $30 something dollars (s/n: everything is so flipping expensive...everything...back to the review). They advised 20 minutes which was perfect. I get there and it was really loud in there. All seats except for 2 tables were occupied. I paid the bill and left. I was so hungry that I couldn't wait until I got home so I started to eat my sandwich in the car. As I'm eating it, there's a burnt taste. I take another bit...same taste. I then look at it, turn it over and the bottom of the biscuit is black. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!! I get home to check the others....ALL THREE BURNT BISCUITS! I was upset! $30 something dollars for THREE biscuits and EACH were burnt. If Althea's reads this review...please don't serve this. This ruined my experience and I will never return to your establishment again. Solid breakfast experience here on a recent weekday. Super generous portions, I couldn't finish my whole omelette or potatoes, which never happens to me! The goat cheese in the veggie omelette was quite good though I asked for 'light goat cheese' since I don't love it, and it still felt like there was a lot - the normal amount must be a ton! This is my and my companion's second visit to Altea's and I couldn't wait to travel the hour from the Boston area to return. She and I live in opposite ends of the state and Worcester is a mid-way point. We both agreed on a return to Altea's without question. On a cold Friday afternoon around noon Altea's was about half full, which was fine by us. There was ample on-street paid parking. Altea's is open from 8am to 3pm. The menu offers a wide variety of breakfast, brunch and lunch options with a French/New Orleans flair. I don't think there is a restaurant like it in eastern MA except maybe Buttermilk and Bourbon in the Boston area. The ambience is casual and open, and we are always struck by the diversity of the patrons, singles, couples, families, all sorts of racial and ethnic backgrounds. It creates a very comfortable, friendly feel. There's also a small bar area in the middle. We were met by very friendly greeters and wait staff, as usual. I needed some warming up so started off with hot chocolate, which came with about a foot of whipped cream on top. At first I was dismayed as I wanted to get to the hot chocolate quickly and kept getting whipped cream on my nose, but I finally figured out how to spoon out some of the hot chocolate, and the whipped cream melted quickly. It definitely hit the spot. My companion had the Steak and Frites, which she declared very good although she did joke that she wasn't used to being served a meal with nothing green in sight. I observed a mouthwatering dish being served to the table next to us and asked what it was.. "Pain Perdu" (Heavenly French Toast) I was told. I had to have it, along with a side of sausage links. I was eyeing the chicken and waffles and the bananas foster waffle, but one look at the Pain Perdu erased all thoughts of those dishes from my mind. Pain Perdu is described as brioche bread, macerated blueberries, walnuts, powdered sugar, whipped cream, and that's just what it was. Oh mama! Every bite was heaven, and the sausages were juicy and big enough to compliment the dish perfectly. I usually take home half my dish but... no. There wasn't enough left on the plate to bother with. The trouble with being served perfection is it's hard to imagine trying anything else the next visit. But we'll see.... read more

Altea's was recommended by a family member and it's become my favorite 'go to' breakfast/brunch/lunch eatery whenever I'm in town! The menu is amazing, with a variety of omelettes, pancakes and drinks above the competition (the 'Fried Chicken and Waffles' are to die for!). The staff are always friendly/smiling and very accommodating with your order needs. No surprise, during the weekends or busy hours there may be a wait list (but that's out of their control). Great benedicts, super creative menu with good food! The server was so lovely and the vibe was overall wonderful for our party of 4. The popcorn chicken benedict was SO good, with great spice, but the potatoes could use some love. I tried one and couldn't continue. The tables are incredibly small, which is sad because we would have 100% gotten more if there was space on the table. Cute spot with fabulous menu options. Loved the accordion windows that were wide open on a warm - but not too hot - July day. Service was prompt but not rushed, genuinely friendly. We started with the beignets. They had a stellar crisp outside, coated in sugar & cinnamon, and a tender inner pastry. Somehow they were not oily at all despite being fried. Served with homemade strawberry sauce & fresh whipped cream, they were incredible! The tomato omelette has such a generous amount of leeks & the lyonnaise potatoes plus toasted baguette were perfect accompaniments. My companion was busy devouring the savory crepe and could only pause long enough to assure me that it was delicious. They had a tempting array of margaritas & cocktails. I absolutely love it here. Such a hidden gem in Worcester and you wouldn't even expect it. From the outside, it looks pretty but more on the basic side but the inside is super cute. I got there right at 11 am on a Sunday and was able to put my name down before 6 individual parties did the same. I ordered the smoked salmon omelette while my friend order the short rib omelette. As a brunch dessert we shared the spiced sugar beignets. Food came out moderately quick. My omelette had a healthy serving of salmon and was juicy from the cooked fat of the fish. It was complimented with a cream sauce and a few capers to cut the fattiness. The sliced potatoes were okay, I feel like they could have been cooked more to get a bit more color of them but the baguette was great as opposed to regular toast. My friend enjoyed his omelette as it was half way gone before I even got to take a picture. The beignets were very crispy and denser than what I was expecting. Was looking for a brunch place and this popped up on recommended spots on Yelp. It was a full house on Sunday and there were 3-5 groups waiting ahead of us, however we were told we didn't have to wait too long. It's true maybe about 15-20mins. They offer mainly French/English fusion menu items which a delight to see as there aren't many other French brunch places around Worcester. A little bit fancier than your typical American diner breakfast. Everything was delicious and the portions were generous. Unfortunately it's only indoor dining, no patios. The service was a bit slow and had to ask for a straw twice with the same waitress. But despite that I'd love to come back for the food! read more
