Put in a c6 tyranny in an 86 f250. Al had it sitting around for years he said, but it was good. It leaked from day 1, and after 2 trips back he says it was good. It started rattling. My husbands truck was having transmission issues and after discussing with the shop that it was under warranty they assured us they would work with the warranty company as the warranty company's money was as good as ours. They could not recreate the issue the truck was having so they recommended that we service the transmission. We went with their recommendation and then after they serviced it the shop took it for a drive and then the trucks transmission started acting up. They were now pretty sure they knew what the problem was. However after becoming frustrated with dealing with the warranty company they no longer want to go through the warranty company. We could either pay out of pocket or come pick up our truck. $1200 for a maybe we know what it is fix?!?! We paid them for the not needed transmission service and picked it up. We picked up our truck and took it to Smith Chevrolet. Since Al's serviced the transmission it made the diagnostics a little more difficult as the warranty company wants to see pics of the old fluid drained from the transmission. Anyway we ended up with a new transmission that was paid by our warranty company and handled very professionally and kindly by Smith Chevrolet. Fixed a few of my transmissions here. They do an alright job if you have thousands to throw away to get a good running car for about a couple months. Then You start having issues and they do everything they can to avoid the warranty and say it's your fault so they don't have to fix it and try to take more money. Very bad service if you want a running car and just all around disrespectful. All there gonna do is take your money and get you going for a bit but you'll have issues shortly after so you have to return to them to get more work. Just a big money scam read more

So I had bought a car off craiglist and realized it had some problems so I took it to AL transmission. He told me I needed a new fuze box for my car . Which cost up to $500-$1k for a brand new one. But of course it's cheaper for a used one. So the plan was to get a used one online. I was told my car will be done in a week. One week passed by he told me he had ordered the wrong one . I gave him another week. Then that week passed by I came to the shop and he told me my car will be done the next day. The next day I called my car was still not ready! I gave him ANOTHER WEEK! & unfortunately my car is still not ready. So i decided to just sell my car so I went up there to get my car out and he tries to charge me $250 to take it out when on the receipt it says $100. SMH he told me to never come back to his shop again !? Lol of course i learnt my lesson ! Smh so I'm still carless :( read more

To start, lucky for them I have to put at least a one star rating. I took my wife's 06 Denali to them to be repaired. It was having issues shifting. Couple thousand bucks later they fixed the transmission. In that time of repair they had to remove the transmission. Well , that's where they screwed us over. We had told them to replace the rear main seal of the motor while the transmission was out. They said not a problem. We got the truck back and it seemed to be good. Got it home and the motor was leaking oil still all over the bottom of the truck. Took it back to them. They said they would look at it. Later got a call that they wouldn't repair it. That it wasn't in their scope of work on their invoice. I asked them to put it back together cuz they wanted to charge me another 1300 bucks to repair the seal I had asked them to change before. I'm getting the truck back. The coolant was leaking. I was pissed. Like you got to be kidding me. Turns out in them working on the truck they broke a couple of very hard to reach plastic connections for the heater hoses toward the back of the motor. Beyond pissed I called and talked to Al the owner. He told me it wasn't their fault. Of course. I'm absolutely pissed with this place. I've had other transmission work done by them. A little on the expensive side. But it got done. But this time they totally screwed me. I hope people read this and stop taking work to them. I guarantee I'm not the only one that's been screwed by these people. The dad, Al, acts so arrogant about their work that he won't even listen to anyone trying to explain their mistake and won't honor their work. Never again will I or anyone I know take work to them. If you want your vehicle done right. Take it to any other shop but Al's transmission. Cuz now we are stuck with a vehicle that pours out oil. Parked it til we can get it fixed read more

Al rebuilt my transmission when I got stuck in Turlock on the way to Fresno. Because I was from out of town, he let me come back more than fifteen days later to have the transmission rechecked to validate the warranty. It's been over a month now, and I haven't had any problems. The only difference is shifting into drive is a little stiff, and the car seems slower to start and I have to be a little heavier on the gas. I am getting it checked over by my normal mechanic next oil change, but everything seems to be working great. read more

I had Previously been very happy with Al's Transmissions when I owned my 03 Malibu they were very helpful in helping me diagnose and doing a transmission flush......... today is a WHOLE OTHER STORY..... I called in about a part for my car the lady who answered the phone was nice enough and said she didn't know if they carried the part i needed she was supposed to find out and call me back she took my name and phone number promising a call back. I had to call her back 2 hours later to get a response ( I Called her since it had been so long). she was pretty rude. I will admit i was pretty cheeky and said thank you for that call back. Will not be doing business with this company would rather drive to Modesto or Merced from here on out. read more

I had my Lexus transmission rebuilt by Al's and it has never run correctly since. I brought it in three times with the same problem under warranty and was told nothing was wrong, and that it was the fuel filter. After replacing the filter it still has issues when on a grade such as the Altamont pass, it slips, bucks and jerks on hills. The warranty has since expired although I have not exceeded the mileage on the warranty, leaving me with a car I cannot drive out of the valley .I am NOT happy with the service I received and would not recommend this shop to anyone. I paid close to $3000 and expect better than this, Al doesn't listen to his customers or care what happens after you pay, He doesn't stand behind his work. They refused to check my car out even after I notified the Bureau of Automotive Repair. I just had a reputable shop check my transmission and it need replacement, $2500 to $3000 for a rebuild. It has a pressure loss problem and is losing reverse gear. I can't believe Al's will not help out a customer when something like this happens, I'm sure this doesn't happen to every customer but it has happened to me and only Al's is responsible. If they had taken the time and listened to me this would not be posted. BTW, Al, it still has not thrown any error codes. I hope this saves someone else the frustration of having to deal with a shop that doesn't stand behind their work. read more

The shop appears clean, and well organized. Yes,I recommend Al's Transmissions, a local business man. When our Chevy needed repairs, they provided timely professional service. They also offered a follow up. The cars is running good, I don't expect any problems but if there is, the transmission has a warranty. read more

Horrible service!!! This company said over the phone they could fix my car after given the problem, year, make, model.. then when we brought it in they said they'd have to diagnosis and quote us, an hour later they called us with a quote we gave them the green light... THEN 4 hours later they called and said were closing as soon as possible come get it and we can't fix t because we don't have the proper tools, the tool needed to get to the problem (hermonic balancer) is $400 if you'd like to pay for that!!! the lady in the office was super nice but the man was rude, had no customer service skills and absolutely no people skills read more

I took my 2005 Ford Explorer in after explaining to the tech about my transmission slipping. Was told that it would cost $95.00 to see what was actually wrong with it. Was called later and told that there is a (mechanical) problem with it! If I wanted them to go (deeper) it would cost between $3,000-$3,800, but as of yet he didn't know what the problem was. Bottom line find out if they are going to let you know what the mechanical problem is before you fork over the $95.00. read more

I'm signing up for Yelp just to post this review. A bit of background, I restore cars in my spare time. My family is a car family. I'm well informed on the proper procedures and checks when diagnosing a transmission problem. I took my transmission into Al's because I have an old truck and after sitting in the hot sun while I restored the engine, the seals of the transmission cracked and would not shift out of second gear. I told him that I could source a warrantied remanufactured engine for $2K, but would still have to pay the labor charges for installation while for the same price I would have it rebuilt and installed with a warranty. I asked him to keep me updated on progress and know the costs. Well the transmission was garbage and required an additional $2K in parts without notifying me. So with taxes everything came out to around $4K, much higher then what he led to me. I should note that by law, mechanics are to notify through EVERY step what costs are. It gets better.... When I picked up the vehicle, Al himself said to return after driving it a couple hundred miles so they can check how loose the connections are and to sign off on the warranty. Since this is a weekend vehicle that is only driven about 50 miles a week, I returned after a month to have it checked out. Al promptly YELLED at me calling me a "Dumb ass" because he "said" 15 days and not a couple hundred miles. Then he said it clearly states (in 6pt font) that the owner needs to return in 15 days. But the worse is that my engine needed a new rear main seal. Standard shop protocol states that when the transmission is removed, replace the rear main seal because it is cheap, takes little time to replace and insures against premature failure of the transmission. Now I am looking at an additional $1.1K (most of it labor to remove and reinstall the transmission). I really do hope that this review helps those looking to have their transmission serviced. Please stay away from this shop. There are much better shops that take pride in their work, are courteous and in the long run, be a much better value read more

This place is absolutely a complete waste of time and money!!!! There horrible!! DO NOT GO THERE!!! If I could I wouldn't give them any stars! They told me 95$ for a diagnostic fee and they told me what the prob might be and I asked them will that fix my check engine light? They said idk and they were gonna charge me 500$ to do a repair that they weren't sure it would fix the problem, I wasn't going to spend that much if they weren't sure. They ended up charging me 145$ when they said 95 and beyond that, they stained my tan seats!! I wouldn't waste time to even walk in that place! Such a bad business!!! read more
