I'm so glad to have been recommended this place!! The Humdinger felt very homemade and delicious. I think it's a very unique mix of flavors and makes a good and juicy bite to eat. I would give 5 stars for the food! It's a bit odd how they expect us to know when our food is ready, because what if one can't hear them beat the window? I guess it's another unique factor that makes this place nostalgic for older people and unique. Place looks a little rundown on the outside, but the food makes up for it. Fry Sauce was a little overhyped though, but that's coming from a die hard ketchup fan. I love exploring and trying new food. I've been going to the Hum Dinger from the time it was a Dairy Queen in the 1950's. Located on the Hoquiam River, I spent many an hour as a boy throwing rocks into the river from the Dinger's parking lot. Now I take photos of the shipyard across the way (a poor excuse to drive from Olympia for a milkshake). But back to the Hum Dinger. This is a classic American home town hamburger stand. No buzzers and bells - just good food. Milk shakes are dee - lish. Burgers done on an old iron grill the way they should be cooked. Sitting in your car, the staff bangs on the Hum Dinger's window to tell you your order is up, as it has been done for decades (how many of those pane windows have been broken over the years??) Places like this, that reflect an era and the local community are fading away in favor of chain places. Thank Goodness the Dinger still stands with a loyal following. read more

No I will not be taking feedback on my 4 star rating. You either get it, or you don't. This place is a hidden gem whose prices will take you back 20+ years. There's absolutely nothing fancy about this place, but a good greasy burger and a perfect milkshake to wash it down. I've read a lot of reviews here talking about small portions, but what were you expecting when the item is $3 whole dollars? If you happen to be driving through the town of Hoquiam and you feel even the TINIEST BIT hungry, do yourself a favor and stop at the Hum Dinger for a cheeseburger, onion rings (with special awesome sauce) and a shake. You won't be sorry you did. Two things to know if you do stop by: 1) you'll need a whole lot of napkins and 2) they pound on the plate glass window to let you know your order is ready. I didn't know that and nearly jumped out of my skin when the person banged the window right behind my head. I required another order of onion rings to calm myself down. Great place! Stopped here on my way back from the beach. Had the halliburger (halibut) and a chocolate peanut butter shake, both were great. Nothjbg fancy, just solid, quality roadside diner food. They also have a dog menu and the outside seating is dog friendly, so I enjoyed a beautiful summer afternoon eating outside with my dog. I was really impressed with the service here. I should start this by saying I only had fries and only because I wanted to know what "fry sauce" was. The waitress told me fry sauce is a proprietary blend of ketchup, mayo, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, and Tabasco sauce. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't amazing either. I can definitely see coming back for the fries someday, though I think the style of business would be better suited to a more oceanfront location as it would have appeal to walk up diners. There is not a ton of parking for a drive up diner, the ordering counter is in this tiny windowed corridor that maybe 8 people can fit in uncomfortably, and there's no place to stand outside to wait for your food. This means that if you're a walk up diner and it's raining, you're pretty much awkwardly in everyone's way. The only complaint I have is that the simple order of fries took almost 15 minutes. They were exceedingly freshly made, but I'm not sure it's worth the wait. read more

This use to be the best burger in town. I haven't been in years so we went there a couple nights ago. Service was great, still knock on the window when your order is done. Crinkle fries were fresh and hot. Coffee shake was delicious! The burger buns weren't toasted like before and if they were, very light and almost soggy. The meat patty was so thin I couldn't taste the beef. The sauce was okay, but very heavy on the mustard. It was edible, but it just wasn't like I remembered to be. read more

The lady behind the plexiglass shield wouldn't take my order until I put on my mask, which was in the car. Fine. When I go back 15 seconds later with my mask on she is no longer at the window to take my order. I look in the back where they are cooking the burgers and at least two of the people back there are NOT wearing masks. So I have to wear a mask to order food, but they don't have to wear masks to prepare the food??? There has been a different bunch in there for the last couple of months, maybe it changed ownership.
