Looking for a classic American diner? You've come to the right place. Started in 1934. Yep. Solid diner food, no muss, no fuss. Friendly, neighborly service. Come enjoy some nostalgia with healthy helpings. Note - the lemonade is bottomless. You're welcome.

Well, we do come here occasionally for breakfast. I don't particularly care for it. The food, at least the eggs and hash browns really have no flavor. I sometimes get a side of sausage gravy, and it also doesn't really taste much like anything. I got a side of fruit last time and most of it wasn't ripe. My husband likes the meat lovers omelette. The queen bee breakfast has thin bacon and his toast was very clearly burnt. The sausage links were big but super greasy and maple-y. I personally have never been impressed. I will come back every now and again because it is close and convenient and sometimes I am lazy. The staff is friendly. It is a clean establishment. It's a basic diner vibe.

We came by on a Saturday morning and were seated quickly. The waitress was nice. This is very much a typical small town diner. We tried the stuffed hash browns and the breakfast sandwich. Everything was fine, but nothing stood out much. Food was a bit bland. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again, but I also didn't hate it.

The historic Bee Hive Restaurant is open once again! Back in 1934, it was known as the "Two-by-Four" and was operated in a large army tent. Back then Pioneer Ave WAS the Olympic highway, and although the highway now bypasses downtown, it's well worth the few moments it takes to exit the hwy and find a comfortable place at the Bee Hive to enjoy some great food and the historic diner atmosphere. I had the breakfast sandwich and coffee and both were delicious. My cup was refilled several times before ever reaching the bottom and the sandwich was loaded with ham, sausage, bacon, egg and cheese...very filling! I can see why this is such a beloved spot by both locals and travellers alike. So if you're passing through Montesano and looking for a worthy stop, this is the place!

Eggs Benedict & Ham, eggs hash browns & toast! It was delicious!

We had a wonderful breakfast on a Thursday morning! They were very friendly & the service was quick! Food was yummy!

Patty melt w/fries. Very unimpressed. This was one of the worst patty melts I've ever had. - no personality to it at all.

Patty melt w/fries. Very unimpressed. The hamburger patty was flavorless and the fries were cooked with too high heat and too fast, resulting in hard exterior and undercooked interior. I had coffee that was watery and had to ask for a refill (none was offered) to wash down this simple yet flawed meal. Was given one small napkin with water spotted cutlery. No other napkins to be seen. The first time I was here I ordered a different burger that had flavorless meat. I haven't tried the breakfast yet, but I don't think I'll be back. Right now I'm waiting for my overpriced check- guess I have to go hunt it down myself. - and I did. I've been to hundreds of restaurants and I've had just as many burgers. This was one of the worst patty melts I've ever had. - no personality to it at all. Need to add seasoning, more fresh meat, more cheese, thicker bread. Definitely not worth $18 for this and a cup of coffee and then an additional four dollars for tip.

Biscuits and gravy, with bacon, eggs over easy and hash browns.

My favorite place for biscuits and gravy in WA state, I also got a Monte cristo to go. This place has great deserts, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The sausage gravy is good, the biscuits are good and the bacon is good. You'd be surprised how many places in Wa that have biscuits & gravy that is not that good. If you like biscuits & gravy and in the area, go here. Go here for everything on the menu. I will definitely be back. I came here with my family as a boy on the way to our family cabin for vacations & to visit my grandma. I moved to the area a couple of years ago to find that it was closed down...a few months back it was reopened and I'm very happy.

Front door- because I forgot to pic my food! Lol

Great food, excellent service, and affordable. The best chicken fried steak I have ever had. The chef cooks family style meals.

Took my BFF out for her birthday to Lemon Hill Restaurant next door to my apt. We didn't have…read morereservations, but just walked in; and the Chef said yes to our unplanned late last table arrival. It was either a two-course or a three-course meal $29 +$47 respectively. We did 3 each starting with homemade pimento cheese with celery sticks, sweet peppers sliced, and crustini. I'm not a big fan of the jarred commercial pimento cheese. This was extremely good. Tasting the peppers inside the cheese ball that you choose how and where to spread it. B+ maybe even A- for the flavor of the cheese and presentation. 2nd Course of shrimp etouffee. It was okay but too thin of a sauce due to a not dark enough roux. Flavors are spot on, shrimp are tender and delicious. A- for the effort to take on roux dishes. 3rd Course was a delicate hazelnut chocolate mousse in a champagne fluted crystal glass. Topped with a light whipped cream to find the dessert level. It had multiple layers of flavor in different areas of the mouth and nasopharynx. A+ for presentation and depth of flavor in a chocolate pudding! Cup of coffee to end the meal, so really 4 courses. The bookstore surrounds the entire restaurant. Very unique experience. Get reservations or try your luck with the Chef near 6:15 pm for a late exception allowed to slip in. Monthly menu then changed up, only work dinner shift on Fridays. Rest is lunch for Courthouse folk. Closed Sundays and Mondays. Overall Score A PS. There were other choices but I didn't try them so, another review for the future... Usually I photograph the food and menu, glucose meter said low so we ate in haste to also not keep entire restaurant open for just us, which we did anyways. And, chef and waitress were great at conversing while closing. PPS. I lived in NOLA next-door to Tulane University and two houses from St Charles Streetcar for 3 years, and have been chef of restaurants in past. Roux Cajun style is an artwork I love and understand

The turkey and spinach crepinettes were flavorful and the housemade cranberry mustard was the perfect accompaniment. The French potato salad and haricot vert were nice sides. I had the chicken sandwich with lemon pepper mayo and cauliflower soup. The mayo really brightened the sandwich. There was a generous amount of roast chicken and the bread was chewy and tasty. And then there's the Bananas Foster Bread Pudding. Sigh

Tucked away in Elma, Smitty's has that classic small-town, roadside burger-joint appeal that makes stopping there feel like part of the experience rather than simply grabbing another fast-food meal. The simple drive-in setup, casual atmosphere, and straightforward menu give the place a genuine nostalgic charm. The prices are another big reason to like Smitty's. You can get a satisfying burger-and-fries meal without feeling like you are paying premium modern day inflation price. The same burger fry and shake would be 50%-100% more in cost in Tacoma or Seattle. The portions are generous, and the food delivers the kind of comfort-food experience you want from a local drive-in. The burgers are definitely the highlight. They are flavorful, have that grilled taste, and have that classic burger-joint taste that you just don't get from the big national chains. Whether you go with a basic burger or something more loaded, the quality and flavor make it clear that Smitty's knows what it is doing. The menu also has plenty of classic sides and other options if you want to mix things up. The wait time was perfectly reasonable for a small, popular drive-in. Smitty's prepares food to order, so you may have to wait a little longer than you would at a typical fast-food chain, but that is a tradeoff I am happy to make for hot, fresh food. It never felt like an unreasonable wait, and the friendly staff made the experience even better. The service was good. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and welcoming, which adds to the small-town character of the restaurant. There is something refreshing about getting good food from people who actually seem happy to have you there. Overall, Smitty's is a great example of what a local drive-in should be: old-school atmosphere, reasonable prices, tasty burgers, fresh comfort food, friendly service, and a relaxed small-town feel. It may not be the fastest stop in town, but the combination of quality, value, and nostalgia makes it well worth the visit. If you are passing through Elma, Smitty's is absolutely worth stopping for.

Definitely appreciated that. The fries were thin and crispy just how I like them. Nicely salted and fresh. The milkshake was delicious too -- thick and creamy without being overly heavy.
