It looks cozier from the outside (cute little house) than it is on the inside where you've got stark white walls, modern light fixtures, a huge white marble counter, and tables arranged in perfect straight lines. I prefer sitting on their front patio where you'll find a couple gigantic picnic tables and comfy lounge chairs! Coffee, tea, sparkling water, Mexican coke, and a sweet little breakfast and lunch menu. Waffles, sandwiches on baguettes, tartines... I ordered the only gluten free option -- the quinoa bowl. Quinoa with super thinly sliced cucumbers and radishes plus guacamole. I highly recommend adding an egg. Really good and fresh, but a liiiittle bland overall. Needed more salt! I wouldn't say the customer service is spectacular, it seems pretty hands off. But I still enjoy my time here. read more

Alpine Modern is nestled on the corner of 9th and College just a couple blocks away from the hill in an adorable renovated house. The overall ambiance is very modern, minimalist, and hipster and has a very friendly and inviting decor! The almond milk latte was AMAZING (and very strong!). Their house made almond milk is some of the best I've had, and blends perfectly with the rich and flavorful espresso. My boyfriend ordered the Japanese tea which was served on an adorable wooden board with a strainer and glass pitcher. Will definitely be back for the pastries and more lattes! read more

Smaller building than I thought but it's a really cool spot, especially if you live in Boulder. I'm visiting the area from Cali and I'm a huge coffee fan! Generally, coffee is coffee and it's all about the same. I've only found 2 that stick out above the rest (Philz Coffee and the Verve). They have a cool store in downtown Boulder where you can pick up swag and other items. I got a sick sticker pack for memories and I'm excited to add them to the bottom of my Mac! read more

Alpine Modern Cafe have two locations. This one and another one in Pearl St. I personally enjoy this location more but if I want to escape how busy this location can get, I immediately transition to Pearl St. A bit overpriced but still pretty good. I usually order their avocado toast (which is pretty average, nothing special). However, their matcha latte is so good! I like mine with almond milk, as it gives the drink a more silky sip and touch to the tongue, and I like it unsweetened. The only reason I'm giving the cafe 4 stars is because you need to actually order eggs separately on top of the avocado toast, which is a complete bummer. read more

This is a house turned into a cafe. Very clean and light ambience. Lots of natural light. Beautiful interior. Seats many people considering the size of the space. There are two pretty big tables right outside and also a fire-pit(!!!) with seating. This place is in the midst of a beautiful residential area (also, a cemetery, which weirdly added on to the beauty of the whole place). You have to find street parking which wasn't a problem. No complaints about the coffee! I had the cortado and it was solid! Also got the free pastry with a check-in and went with a chocolate croissant which was fine, nothing extraordinary. I have yet to try the food. Based on location, ambience and COFFEE (and brownie points for having a fire-pit) this place gets five stars! read more

Fantastic, overpriced, hipster coffee shop in the heart of the hill. With close proximity to Chautauqua, Alpine Modern is a fantastic option to grab a coffee, relax, get some work done, etc. While it is quite expensive, the coffee really is good and the indoor space and outdoor patio are both great spots to for a meeting, date, or get together. The paprika was a little much and my egg wasn't cooked all the way through and I mean the egg whites (I like my yolk drippy). This is a very clean and modern cafe to enjoy some good coffee/espresso, while you lounge either inside or outside on their patio. In addition to drinks they offer baked good and other foods to snack on. It's a great place to grab a drink with friends, or be one of the many who come with work or laptops to accomplish some tasks while sipping on free refills of drip coffee. Parking is a drawback as they only have 3-4 off street spots, and the on street parking is difficult given their location surrounded by residences. All that being said, it's a good place to check out and I'd recommend coming by. read more

I just got the avo toast and the smoked salmon toast when I visited so I can't speak for the drinks. The toasts were SO GOOD. I would recommend the smoked salmon over the plain avocado toast (they weren't called "toast" but I forget the formal name). One small negative was that the hot sauce they had out was expired. I used it anyways and didn't get sick or anything. Just a little bit of a turnoff but it wouldn't stop me from coming back. Also, the inside is super cute! read more

This coffee shop is so cute, I came here on a rainy Tuesday morning before I began my trek to Rocky Mountain National Park and I needed a cup of coffee before I left. The cafe is in what looks like a house, sort of, from the outside, with a big front porch with seats that nobody were in because of the weather. Had the weather been a bit nicer I definitely would have grabbed my cup and sat outside, it was very welcoming. What I hated was the inside of this place. The interior was way too small and cramped for it to be enjoyable, for me at least. When I walked in the ordering counter was to the left and the seating was to the right, in the middle there was an island with seats on one side and the other side had milk, sugar and things to put in your drink. The only seating available was at the island and the seats were uncomfortable and small. It was difficult to take my laptop out and get any work done without feeling like I was in the way of other peoples space. The shop is adorable, they have specialty drinks, food and cute decor. I ordered a regular drip coffee and took a seat at the island. The place was jam packed! It's in college town so I guess I should have expected that on a Tuesday morning it would be filled with people studying. Plus it was a rainy day, who doesn't want to be inside a cute cozy coffee shop on a rainy day in the Fall? The drip coffee, I honestly can't remember it, so it definitely wasn't bad but it definitely wasn't the best cup of coffee I've ever had. Soon after my arrival people scurried in and the island was taken over with other people. There were 3 people who came in who ordered food and planned to stay and eat it but there were no seats available. So when the barista called their name out to say their food was ready they were standing around the island eating their food with no place to sit and I felt like they were on top of me. It was awkward and uncomfortable and so I picked up my things and headed out. If you're going to order food you would thing you'd secure a table, not just stand around someone sitting getting work done. That's just me. I used the bathroom before I left and it was tucked in a strange area that was in the way of the baristas. The space was just problematic for me, I felt very public. Everyone was watching you go to the bathroom, if you sat at the island you had zero privacy from everyone in the seating area looking at your computer, it just wasn't for me. I think I would have had a much different experience had I been able to grab a table in the corner. read more

Perfect for winter weather dates, or to bring my sister. Inside, it's super white marble, there are a big counter filled with cookie tins, glass displays with breads and pastries. Used to absolutely love this place, yet it faded out of my life the past year due to high prices and not the largest food selection. Today I decided to give it another shot with a friend for breakfast and I was pleasantly surprised and happy to have given them another chance. While I wish their menu had a larger selection, they do have a variety of rich, handcrafted drinks, a beautiful ambiance & an array of Instagram worthy tartines & aesthetics. Just bring your coffee date, or homework, and be prepared to drop $15+ bucks for an avocado tartine & a latte. Fair warning though - they tend to get a tad overwhelmingly crowded during peak hours, especially weekends when they offer weekend waffles so make sure to take that into consideration when deciding to stop by to get some work/studying done :) read more

Told them it should have way more milk in it, and was given a second tiny splash (the drink is still dark brown). I would have been better off going to Starbucks. Menu and ambiance looked great on yelp, but when you walk in there is no menu presented anywhere. None of the employees bothered to help us or asked if we needed help. There was a blonde girl standing up front just looking at us. Again, from the yelp pictures of their menu looks as tho they would have a great brunch, but due to the unpleasant service, my girlfriend and I ended up getting a crappy drip coffee and a pastry. Hah! The only thing "Modern" about this cafe is the rudeness of the staff. The food is excellent, kudos to the chef, but the counter staff go out of their way to be non-helpful. I ordered the avocado on bread, this is called a "tartine" in hipster speak, with an egg on the side. The egg is poached and came out where the whites were uber runny. I asked the counter staff whether they would ask the chef to cook the egg more; hah, you would have thought I asked the soup nazi to re-heat the mullagatawny. The lady at the counter stated, "we only cook these one way". Well, thankfully I asked the lady working on the floor for help. She had the chef cook an egg that was not undercooked. The chef then returned a beautiful egg. I have worked in the food industry in Boulder for years. One of the toughest thing for managers is to get good help in a town full of entitled white kids. I have found however with a little vetting and training a restaurant can find wonderful, hard working kids who are a joy to be around. I suggest the Modern Cafe explore this option. read more
