I had the daily special of "Deluxe Chirashi Sushi Bowl" ($12.50) for lunch today. I got the maguro, hamachi, and salmon sashimi pieces, 2 small cooked scallops, and fake-crab salad, but couldn't find the "ginger onion pesto sauce". I'm guessing the stuff on the fake-crab salad was the "unagi sauce" 'cuz it certainly didn't taste like ginger and onion. What I didn't get was enough su with the shi to make up for the taste of plain, raw, fish. Nor any shoyu or wasabi, or chopsticks in my takeout order. [??!!] The shredded daikon and carrots, and diced cucumber and tomatoes did not help; unflavored as they were. My co-worker really enjoyed her "Limu Ahi Poke" bowl ($9.25). It sure looked good. The ahi was obviously seasoned well with shoyu, white and green onions, sesame seed, limu, and chili pepper. Now that makes sense---pair mildly seasoned sushi with strongly flavored poke. For what I expect will be a better experience with one of its poke bowls, I give Aloha Cones a third star. When that will be I don't know. The parking situation is a real turn-off. read more

I've been to Aloha Cones a couple of times now, and both were excellent! Aloha Cones is about a 10 minute walk from my office, so coming here for lunch is always a nice break during my workday. On my first visit, I opted for a regular size poke bowl ($9.75) with the sesame ahi and limu ahi poke options. I was thankful that I could get 2 different choices in my regular bowl as I'm always really indecisive in my food choices. The poke was fresh and delicious...I loved it! But I just wish there was more. I thought that the ratio of poke to rice was very off and in favor of more rice. I also thought it was weird that there were tomatoes in my poke bowl. I know it says its included on the menu, but I still thought it was strange. Fast forward a month and I made my second trip to Aloha Cones. With the wisdom I acquired on my first visit, I ordered a mini size poke bowl ($6.50) with spicy ahi and no tomatoes. I loved the bowl so much more without the tomatoes, and I thought that the ratio of poke to rice was much better in the mini bowl! The poke was still amazing, and I think I'll try the wasabi masago on my next visit. One thing I did note on my second visit was that you need to go early in order to get the poke choices you want...my coworker ordered the last serving of wasabi masago poke around 12:15pm and a large group that came in after us and ordered wasabi masago was unfortunately forced to select other options. Not sure how the parking situation is here since I've only ever walked, but it looks like a stall is difficult to come by. Also, Aloha Cones does accept credit card which is a major plus! I'll be back for sure...the salads are next on my list to try! There are so many choices for poke bowls on the island. Do you know what most of them have in common, and not a good thing in my book? They all serve their poke bowls with hot rice. I would rather enjoy my poke nice and cold, as it should be, thank you very much. And that's what sets Aloha Cones apart. Nice cold rice - something as small as that makes a difference, believe it or not! Located on Kinau Street before Ward Avenue, this place can be a little tricky to find. Here's how I get there: get on Beretania and make a right at Alapai Street, which is right after Homeworld. Then make a right on Kinau. Don't drive too quickly or you'll pass it. It's in a pink building on your right. There's parking behind the building and the entrance is a really small driveway. Keep an eye out for it otherwise you'll need to drive around the block again. There's a few stalls only - so keep that in mind especially if you're going around lunchtime. As another reviewer mentioned, reverse park - you'll be glad you did. Aloha Cones is a small shop and is tied with a shaved ice business. Very minimal seating, so best to take your food to-go. It was also a bit warm in there, so you're probably better off eating elsewhere anyway. I had the wasabi masago ahi poke bowl. I loved how it came with a side of crab salad. LOVE Aloha Cones. Pretty sure this is my favorite poke bowl place ever. Totally overdue review. Tucked away in this little kinda-ghettoish looking place (but it's actually not LOL) on Kinau Street to the right split if you're coming off the east-bound freeway exit off the Kinau Exit near Board of Water Supply, you'll find some awesome poke bowls. OH MY. I would've never guessed this place sold ah-may-zing, fresh fish! I don't know if they have actual signage for "Aloha Cones" but it's in the same store labeled "Shigalicious". Tricky, tricky! They have a small parking lot in the back of the building which houses about 4 stalls. I've always scored parking, as most people are in and out since the seating here is limited (they only have ONE bench inside to eat on and it's normally very hot in here). The service is always great and the people are friendly. They're pretty efficient in taking orders and ringing you up, so the line, although intimidating, never keeps you there too long. They serve a variety of salads (vegetarian and those with fish), sushi bowls, and poke bowls. I've only gotten poke bowls. The fish is always so fresh and the seasonings are delicious. Not to mention, the bowls always come with imitation crab salad, cucumbers, daikon stringies tomatoes, nori. A mini or cone (yes, it comes in a cute shave ice cone if you wish) is $6 and a regular is $9.25. I normally always get a regular size and they allow you to choose 2 types of poke, if you wish! I've really only gotten tried these 3 types of poke: Wasabi Masago Ahi Poke is a never fail. Perfect chunks of ahi without the nasty white "tsuji" stringy stuff you can find in some poke - i hate that!! Don't worry, this place never has weird fish! :) Shoyu Ahi Poke - very flavorful but not my fave. It's a little on the sweeter side here, and I'm a salty gal. Spicy Ahi - ahi is not in chunks here, it's that mushy kind (sorry no way else to describe it haha). not heavily loaded with mayo, but just a perfect blend of spiciness and a little drizzle of a teriyaki like sauce - I sometimes ask for it sans sauce cause remember, I'm a salty gal, not a fan of sweetness on my poke. They also garnish this with a slice of fresh jalepeno. YUM! They also have a loyalty stamp card here, so don't forget to ask for one! I'm so glad this place is close to work. Instagram will lead me to strange places and ultimately, good eats (most of the time!). It was a few pics on my Instagram feed that led us here. You do eat with your eyes too! Aside from what previous reviews have noted; fresh fish, flavorful, well-rounded, and delicious, what will keep me coming back is the people that work there. As cheesy as it sounds, it felt like family in there. I felt like the staff could be my aunties and uncles. The staff was so nice. My guy and I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon and it was so HOT. After we ordered our food, aunty came out of the kitchen with some chopped watermelon. "Have some cold watermelon," she said. "It's so hot today. Take a couple pieces while you wait." Our chirashi bowls were filled to the top with fresh fish, crab salad, and veggies. I think the ginger onion pesto can be skipped, makes your sashimi taste like cold ginger chicken. SO GLAD to finally have a great poke stop in my immediate neighborhood. All of the fish here is always so fresh and they also have great potion ratio of fish to rice. My first time at Aloha cones was an excellent experience. I've been craving some yummy poke bowls from everywhere! I kept seeing posts of aloha cones and it was so worth it! I had the hamachi sushi bowl mixed with spicy ahi! Ummm best quality of fish and sushi rice with bomb crab salad! Sounds simple but so satisfying! I decided to check out Aloha Cones today after work because I'd heard from a few friends that it was worth checking out. The location is kind of random, but after finishing my poke bowl, I can say it's worth the trip. I had the Sesame Ahi Poke Bowl. The poke bowls come with a healthy portion of whichever poke you choose, crab salad with unagi sauce, thinly sliced cucumber, diced tomatoes, and shredded daikon over a bed of sushi rice. The poke, first of all, was fresh and delicious! The texture of fish was just the right firmness and the coating of sesame oil was light and complimented the fish well. All of the poke bowls here are made with sushi grade fish and you can tell. The crab salad was unexpected, but was salty and tasty. I liked having the fresh vegetables in there, too. They added texture and allow you to customize each bite of poke. Finally, the sushi rice was a good match. I really don't like having cold poke on top of hot rice (how many other poke places serve their poke bowls) so I liked that Aloha Cones served their poke over chilled rice. The regular size poke bowl was priced at $9.25 and I thought that was a reasonable price for the quantity and quality here. Inside, there's a tiny bench that two people could sit comfortably and enjoy their poke bowls. (You can even get shave ice there.) However, there's no AC so I'd recommend just picking up your food to go. My food came out within a minute of my ordering it, so it's perfect if you're in a rush or just looking for something quick. My husband and I visited Aloha Cones on an afternoon when we happened to be in the Honolulu area. Being from Mililani, there aren't many times that any of us make the trek to town. However, we were SO GLAD that we stopped by to taste for ourselves what all the buzz was about! For a while we've heard from others of this tiny nook off of Kinau, that serves fresh fish and poke in colorful plastic cones. But, for whatever reason, never had the opportunity to try it. OMGoodness, we didn't know what we've been missing ALL THIS TIME!! Very honestly, I'd give 10 stars if I could!! It really is ALL that people have been raving about! The fish is super FRESH, the poke is TASTY, & the presentation is BEAUTIFUL! My absolute favorites are the Spicy Ahi and the Limu Ahi cones. If you are a sashimi or poke lover, you WILL NOT be disappointed with Aloha Cones. Promise. This place REALLY "hits the spot" when you're craving poke/sashimi/sushi. I guess they don't do their orders by ticket number because I ordered I was number 37 and they was calling all the numbers after me. I ordered a poke bowl and the other people behind me was ordering ahi kastu and they got their food before me. I guess they guy that took my order didn't realize that he did make my order even when everyone else had left and I was the only person in there looking at him. Aloha Cones has definitely won me over because of the freshness of the fish, unique bowls and friendly uncles working there. It's a little hard to find, but it's basically behind Home World! There's a small parking lot that fits maybe 5 cars because it's also shared with the apartment complex in the back. The menu has Poke Bowls & Sushi Bowls - But one thing I like is that you can customize so much! I really like their spicy tuna because it doesn't have a lot of mayo and gets its spiciness from the jalapeno peppers! It's a nice change and the fish is really fresh so it's light and tasty too! The vegetables and imitation crab that all bowls come with is really yummy too! And if you're not into raw fish, they also have a delicious Somen Salad with takuan, edamame, nori w/ cooked Hamachi or Salmon! :) It's very colorful and delicious, I'm excited to try more from Aloha Cones! read more

I only live in here part time so every time I am here I find new places have opened. Aloha Cones is sooooo good. The ahi and sashimi bowls are very fresh and have a lot of flavor. I like that they include some veggies as well so it feels more like a whole meal and healthy. The location is a little off the beaten path and it is a small joint but definitely worth visiting. Not sure what all of the hype is about. The experience I had here was just mediocre (and so was the food). Don't get me wrong. I love mom and pop places. I love food that tastes like grandma just made it and friendly service. I didn't get any of this. Nothing else really made up for the lack of service or good food. The space is cramped and they sold an assortment of random things, which I thought was endearing. Kinda weird that they sell Red Label Clothing though. I got the salmon bowl. The poke/sushi bowls are packed with a hefty amount of all the goodness you'd expect, with some pleasant extras. (Fresh cucumbers, tomatoes, and daikon w/unagi sauce? Win.) The service is always really friendly and they take the time to make everything fresh. The poke itself tastes very fresh, and whatever poke recipe they use is derishious! I was waiting for the bus, eager to get home, but could not shake off my hunger. I've grown a bit dependent on Yelp when it comes to food, so not being that familiar with the area, I had to check out the nearest places to eat. I was in Alapai and S King, so naturally one of the options that popped up was Aloha Cones. The place was small, enough for probably max of four people. Good thing that I was the only one there. I ordered the Sesame Ahi Poke Bowl, and a Green Tea flavored snow cone with Azuki Beans and Ice Cream. The poke bowl, though a bit salty, was really good. The ahi was fresh and tasty. The snow cone, on the other hand, could be improved. I was not particularly fond of the flavoring; I thought it did not taste like green tea that much. Despite these concerns, I still highly recommend this place because of the service. Everyone was very nice. The guy who prepared the poke bowl added extra ahi, for instance. Someone was also checking up on me every once in a while. The most impressive of all is that I just found out that the store was way past it hours. Nobody even (at the very least) hinted at this. Got my fave from foodland spicy tuna and this place is leagues better. Fresh fish, yummy sauces, tons of super thin daikon slices, cucumber and tomato and good rice to fish ratio. Usu hate crab salad and ate it all up. If this location and space and parking was more convenient woulda been a five. Will definitely go here again when I work around the area now that I know the secret shortcut through the building where taisei ramen is - from the beretania side go to the second floor and go out the back parking lot and ur on the kinau side. First time, that I tried this place was a very long time ago. I ordered the Chirashi Bowl and I remembered the fish being fresh and it was good in all. Also, I remembered that there was public metered street parking back then or you had to walk there which was a problem. Second time, was recently this month as I was in the area and decided to try this place again. There is no longer public metered street parking anymore as it belongs to the Board of Water Supply as Restricted Parking now. I found parking in the driveway after their building on Kinau Street which has only 4 small stalls. There was one stall left. It was 1:30pm and I guess it was meant for me to try here again after many years. The place was empty and I was the only customer there. Lucky for me. This time, I decided to try the Wasabi Masago Poke Bowl, Crab Salad, Cucumbers, Shredded Daikon with Sushi Rice. It took around 10 minutes and I was out the door and back on the road again. Loved it! This place is quickly becoming a YELP sleeper hit. Shoots...that's how I found it! Actually I've been driving by the "Shigalicious" Shave Ice place for years (as I live in the hood and go to Queens) but the surrounding shops were pretty suspect to me so never had the urge to stop and check it out. Plus never saw great Yelp reviews for the previous stores either so why bother? Then Aloha Cones came in and it seems to have blown new life into the area...EVEN Shigalicious itself! Like others have said, yes, it's pretty dang yummy. FIrst time, I had the Shrimp tempura bowl: came with avocado, crab salad, edamame and other goodies heaped upon sushi rice. Second time, had the spicy ahi bowl. Loved that the ahi was chopped up (not chunks) so it was creamy smooth, again comes with crab salad and diced up cucumbers, tomatoes on a bed of sushi rice. And it's more fish than rice! Nice! I had the somen salad, it's was okay, came with salmon and lots of edamame in it. Not my favorite but was tasty. My nephew had the poke bowl and that was fresh and good too. Not too salty poke which is so hard to find these days. So yes, this place is legit and so far has earned its 5 stars. Let's hope it stays that way. I used to frequent them often (about 3-4x a month) when they used to be on Kinau st. They're now located in the old kamehameha bakery building on school st in kalihi. Idk what is about the new place but I'm not completely loving it. Maybe they are trying to work out the kinks with the new location but the wait to get my food was fairly long (I was the only one waiting) and the entire outside of my bowl was oily from the workers gloves and the daikon and crab was spilling out from the lid on the sides. It was just extremely messy and not what I'm used too. Not a deal breaker though because their food is delicious...it's just not what I'm accustomed too having frequented their prior location often. Ohhhhh. It's been a while since my last visit and my how thing have changed. The crab salad is still delightful, but they use to fill these bowls to the brim with poke. A bit disappointed because the full sized bowls use to get me stuffed, now I'm just teetering the line of stuffed and satiated. Seems they must be doing good though, haven't seen any of the original staff there. read more
