Best poke I've ever had! The woman at the counter was so friendly. I added extra salmon - the fish was incredibly fresh. It's a small place, but the atmosphere is very warm and welcoming

Hubby Lunch from @Aloha Cones today. Looks like a Poke Bowl to me?? Heehee! He says that it tasted good too.

Aloha Ahiahi, from Hawai'i Nei :) \000/..... Yikes, it's sure been awhile since I've writen any Reviews here on Yelp?!?!?..... Welp, for this place @Aloha Cones, located right on *School St.*, which is very close to where we live & my Hubby is the one who will Usually head out on his days off & pick us up our Lunch Grindz!!! Mahalo Nui, always to my Husband David :) I know exactly where this Eatery is located & I've driven by here tons of times, I just never stopped on by, knowing that my Husband will drop on by here, especially he knows that I enjoy my *Shrimp Tempura*, etc. I don't, I repeat that I don't eat NO "Raw Fish!" @all, no "thank you", I've tried it before *Sashimi*, once before when my late Dad :(, insisted on me trying "Raw Fish", probably because my Dad was an avid Fisherman & he really wanted me to try his Fresh Sashimi, that he & his very good Male Friend & my Dad probably Caught & was excited, knowing that my Mom & my Sister Randi enjoys eating the Sashimi my Dad always would Cut the fresh fish for them @The (*Sumida Farm* = My late Dad :(, was a very Active member for the *The Aiea Boat Club*), So, I'm guessing my late Dad assumed that I would enjoy his *Sashimi* & A'ole, I hated it & spit it out (lol!) A long time ago!!, my one & only time I've tried any Sashimi in my life, yuck I say!!! Lol! It's just not for me, period!! I feel it's an acquired thing, & I just don't like it!! The reason while I'm mentioning about "Raw Fish" is because this place, @Aloha Cones does serve "Raw Fish", which my Husband will order a Bowl of it & then he'll always Order, my Favorite "Shrimp Tempura" bowl w/lots of rice (yikes!), & my nice bowl of "Shrimp Tempura" meal also comes w/Fresh Avocados, A Scoop of *Imitation Crab* = (I really enjoy this food Feature!!), Cucumbers, Sprouts, Lima Beans, etc & more fillers of Cruchy goodness, which I always enjoy every bite of my meal, all the many, many times when my Husband has picked up my "Tempura Bowl" meal of yumminess!! The price for my Ono "Tempura Bowl" is if I'm correct is, $15.00+ tax, etc. I always enjoy this treat & guess what, again, I haven't stepped foot in this place yet?? (lol!), but when I do put in my Order, the Sweet Nice Lady that Usually answers the phone, is always pleasant to talk too!! My Husband David mentioned to me that this Place @Aloha Cones may be a "Ohana" Business, not 100% sure, because I've never been here yet???? Lol! I'm sure I'll come & sit down one day here in the Future @Aloha Cones & take a few more photos for my pge here on Yelp!! A definitely 5***** place to eat at, I mean honestly, their *Shrimp Tempura* isn't the biggest "Shrimp Tempura" bowl meal, but I surely enjoy it, ooh yeah, they do put this nice *Sauce* on my Shrimp Tempura, I'm thinking it could maybe be, some Unagi Sauce, Maybe??, && I don't even eat Eel either?? Go figure!! Hahaha..... Lastly, I did try their *Karaage Chicken* a few times & I enjoyed it!! But, I mostly enjoy my "Shrimp Tempura" bowl meal, which always includes (2 pieces) of Shrimp Tempura, YUM!! Aloha, from Hawai'i Nei :) Cheers! P.S. - I forgot to also mention that this Eatery @Aloha Cones is located very near "Rainbow Drive In", which Rainbow Drive In is right around the Corner at the end of this Eatery on *School St.*.

Got a special off their instagram page for some delicious sashimi grade shoyu ahi and sesame ahi poke, and it really was delicious and fresh! I mostly ate it with white rice for a make my own poke bowl, but I also added a side of poke chips for $5 for some variety, and it was incredibly light and tasty. I can't wait to return!

College kid is arriving back home for Christmas and he begs me to have a poke bowl in the car as soon as I pick him up and he doesnt want supermarket stuff...Aloha Cones to the rescue they are open on Sunday till 4pm. The dragon bowl ($18.95) is delicious! Shrimp tempura, spicy ahi, sushi rice, unagi sauce, ocean salad, crab salad, cucumber. It's one of our favorite poke places. The price is a little steep but overall poke prices in hawaii have gone up. They have ample parking behind the shop. You can dine in on the counter or take out. Efficient friendly service and it's one of the few places that makes that delicious Sushi cake. I haven't gotten one yet but plan to for a special occasion. My kids gonna be a happy camper with this dragon bowl!

The food was delicious, the fish tasted fresh and I'll say the presentation is picture perfect. I guess the only downside was just the nature of everything being in a bowl because I couldn't get to the rice, I had to keep shifting all the fish, cucumber slices, and shredded daikon that sat on top around so I could get to the rice. My friend and I got there when it opened so needless to say we were served very quickly and there was lots of space for us to sit down. What was very nice is we didn't feel rushed to get out of the place after we finished eating as my friend and I were also catching up with each other while we ate. The eating area is pretty much just counter space, which was clean and there was a sufficient amount of space between each bar stool so if the place was completely full, I wouldn't have felt crowded in my seat. I guess it might be because my friend and I are both short, but I felt a little bit like a child as the bowl of food sat only a few inches below my chin because of how high the countertop was relative to the height of the bar stools.

If you're looking for the best Sushi bowl in the world you need to come here! They use fresh fish straight from the auction every day and they prepare their bowls very differently from other typical poke bowls. Their Sushi bowls are very fresh and cannot be compared to any other place to be quite honest. You ever go home after eating somewhere and then think about the place and crave it again ? Yeah that's this place! Just writing this review has me wanting to go back tomorrow! On special occasions to be different I do order their sushi cake which comes with the layers of spicy ahi and crab in the middle and then topped with their fresh sashimi selection of the day and topped with Ikura and edible flowers! This cake always impresses whatever party I am going to or any person that I'm gifting it to! They do not disappoint!

What a fantastic Mother's Day gift! My Son and Daughter-in-law are always coming up with great gifts to bestow on me for birthdays, Christmas and Mother's Day. This particular surprise was dropped off on Saturday and was absolutely gorgeous to look at. It's hard to tell how much that delightful sushi-cake weighed but it was heavy. I wish I had taken more pictures but once we started cutting into it I was just wanting to savor every bite. The roses on top were Ahi, Salmon and Hamachi with Ikura and small slices of sashimi in between and edible flowers to brighten it up. The inside was layered with crab salad, avocado thinly sliced cucumber tasting like a California roll and spicy tuna underneath that. The sides were sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds. Actually loved the rice as it wasn't sweet and perfectly soft. A perfect gift idea or a shared pot luck or just served with sake for a friends evening. It's a winner! Business is located on School Street where the old Kam Bakery used to be. Shared parking lot and the owner is very helpful. It came with containers of wasabi, sliced ginger and ponzu sauce. Shoyu was offered but we have plenty at honey.

Today I got to taste the Spicy Tuna Poke for $17.75 and they gave a very large portion and it was fresh and good taste to the last bite. Also, the cook/server was very helpful and friendly.

Delicious fresh Poke!!!! Our family stopped by here on our way from the airport to our hotel and it was delicious!!!! The staff is very friendly. The location is small, and they don't have tables but a counter with stools. I was traveling with my family (a group of 7), and no one was inside, so we were able to sit and eat there. Yelp reports this business is close on Sundays but they are open on Sundays now. Now let me tell you about the Poke. This is probably one of the best pokes I've ever had! It is fresh, and the flavor is perfect in every bite. The rice is also perfect which makes the bowls even better. I had the Dragon Bowl 5/5, which comes with shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, cucumbers, crab meat, and some other items, and it was exactly what I was hoping for! Several of us had that bowl, and we all agreed it was the best! We also tried the Poke Nachos 5/5, and they were also really good! Everything is prepped fresh when you get there, so the chips for the nachos were fried after we ordered. This is a must try location in Hawaii!

I got the shoyu ahi poke while my bf got the dynamite bowl. This has to be the best poke bowl I ever had- the fish was so fresh and the side crab salad was so tasty. They also put some cucumbers, cabbage salad, and seaweed and it was all so good. I think this experience really stood out to me because we spoke to the owner and the other worker there who were very friendly and nice. Would love to return to try another poke bowl whenever we go back to Oahu!

I love poke nachos but I have yet to find a place in east Honolulu that makes them, so I did a quick search on my handy dandy Yelp app and Aloha Cones popped up! Although they are about 25 min away, the photos of their poke nachos looked yummy enough to give it a try. I called my order in and by the time I got there, it was ready. The lady at the counter was very friendly and I assumed she was the owner. There was only one other person there - the cook. This is a hole-in-the-wall in Kalihi, with a few parking spots in the back of their eatery. For landmark purposes, they're right next to Rainbow Drive Inn. The poke nachos are usually spicy but I asked for a non-spicy version with shoyu ahi, which they gladly created for me. I got the nachos to go and by the time I got home and popped the lid, I was surprised how much they could fit in that box! The poke was very fresh and sliced appropriately. It came with seasoned poke over chips, drizzled with unagi and aioli sauce, topped with tomatoes, white and green onions. They also had a scoop of crab on top. The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the wonton chips. I prefer mine on the super crispy side and these were not. They were good, but I've had better. The price was $17.95 + tax which is very reasonable given the amount that they serve. I could make two meals out of it. It's definitely worth checking out and supporting this small business!

I went here yesterday for spicy ahi poke nachos and wow probably best I've ever had! They have seaweed salad and imitation crab salad along with their home made won ton chips! Their won ton chips remain crunchy too! Portion size is good too!

Ask the Community - Aloha Cones

Do they do sushi cakes still?

Yaassss!! I'd make the order at least a week in advance. Customer service was very responsive and nice!!

    Do they have seating?

No, they have a narrow counter that lines the walls but you have to stand and eat in a narrow space. Best to do takeout and eat somewhere more scenic, like a nearby park.

Are they still open for business?

They are still on business. I went there twice recently. Both tasty. Their phone did not work both time for different reason.

Parking is super easy with the complimentary structure, and the café is located on the bottom floor alongside other vendors. One thing I immediately appreciated was how well air-conditioned the entire market is--it's nice and cool, which makes sitting and eating there really comfortable. The cashier recommended the turkey pesto croissant, but suggested swapping it onto ciabatta since it's one of her favorites--and I'm so glad I trusted her. It was phenomenal. The flavors were balanced, the bread held everything together perfectly, and it felt like a step above your typical sandwich. I also had what looked like a simple salad, but the vinaigrette and candied pistachios really elevated it and made it feel more thoughtful than expected. The staff across the board were friendly and welcoming, and there's plenty of seating--whether inside the café or out in the open market area. Honestly, the value surprised me the most. I paid under $13 for everything, which is hard to beat for the quality. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to.

Seating is limited so it may be difficult to find seating especially during high traffic meal times. May have better luck finding seating outside. I've been here multiple times for lunch and had multiple different items. The acai bowl are good. I like getting the Nalu salad which is always a decent serving and tastes fresh. The sandwiches are also pretty tasty. My main issue is the service. I'm not sure if part of their training is to ignore the customer as much as possible because that has been my experience on multiple occasions. The most recent visit, I had ordered online and was going to pick up m food for takeout. There were three workers at the front just talking. I walked to the counter and was ignored. I could see where the orders are placed and didn't see anything there so figured my order wasn't ready yet. I stood on the side for at least 5 minutes without any greeting or acknowledgement. Not a single person made eye contact with me. When I saw an order placed on the back counter one of them grabbed it and placed it on the takeout counter without calling out the name and went back to chatting. I had to actively try to get their attention at which point I was looked at like I was bothering them. Asked if my order was ready and was handed it without any further interaction. I don't expect happy go lucky people and conversation but at least basic customer service.

Where a single choice is $15, two choice is $18 - and on Monday a single choice bowl is only $13?! And for a customizable bowl? Yummm. I normally go for the two choice and being boring love to get JUST cucumbers. But their toppings are free so load it up with the furikake, bubu arare, and the fried garlic and onion chips which add great crunch and saltiness. Their spicy Hawaiian is my absolute favorite. I actually like it's not super saucy and you can taste the different ingredients. I also love that you can taste the Hawaiian salt. And the onions aren't cut TOO big iykyk. The other favorite is the ginger scallion which is just as tasty. Buuuut I do sometimes wish the sauce was a tad bit saltier (which is why I get the toppings). We've also tried a bunch of other flavors! Their creamy pesto is something delish to try and unique. I'm fairly sure if they were able to broil it that would be sooooooo tasty. Their kimchi ahi was good but a bit in the sweet side for me. I almost wish they had some kind of spunky crunchy kimchi bits in it to offset the freshness of the fish. And another great flavor we tried was the spicy ahi, hard to go wrong with that - right? Lol A silly story is that when they staff was deciding what drinks to stock we told them 100% Diamond Head Strawberry soda. And now it's on the menu!!

About half of what we ordered came out burnt, so we let them know right away that we wouldn't be eating it (especially since they charge for leftover food). They were understanding and didn't give us any issues. Everyone was nice and helpful, especially since it was our first time there. The restaurant was pretty empty around 5 PM on a Thursday, but I imagine it gets more popular on weekends, especially with the BYOB policy. Since it's in Kalihi, I understand why kids' pricing is based on height instead of age, but it's something to keep in mind. My nephew is only 2, but he'd probably fall into the $19.99 price range. The salad was fresh and crisp, and while I personally could handle quite a bit more spice, I appreciate that they balance the heat so it's enjoyable and approachable for everyone without overpowering the dish. Beyond the food, the atmosphere is always welcoming. The chef is consistently friendly, the staff is kind, and the restaurant is always clean. It's such a great feeling being able to eat somewhere with confidence knowing they're using fresh, clean ingredients. Highly recommend SYOY! Deb B

Today I went to pick up my online order and then the young cashier lady gave my order to the guy in front of me who was waiting for his order. She didn't check correctly if it was really his order, so he took it and left. When they realized what happened, they rushed to make my order again. She tried to pretend that she didn't know what happened. Hello, I was there watching what happened the whole time!!! No sorry, "just please wait...." I had to wait another 20-30 minutes for my food to be made. I asked them what happened and the owner or manager just said "we made a mistake...." Smh!! They should have given me something for compensation... The other time I went there over a year ago a different cashier lady forgot something in my order and I had to go back and get my missing item... smh!!! The time before that a cashier didn't know how to do basic math and gave me back my change when I gave her change so I could get a dollar bill back...... smh!!!! I don't know why they keep making mistakes or can't do simple things when I go there. I'm very patient and easy going on person, but I won't be going back for a while.... So sad cuz, I really like their food and they are nice people.

Little overdue of a review but here we go lol…read more. Diners has been a staple for my family & I , and I'm sure many other families on island for YEARS. Our family's go to was always Cheeseburger and yellow sauce with fries! As time and society evolved , so did Diners, since they became "Upscale" and added more things to their menu. I have tried their Grilled lobster plate more than once from their Upscale menu in the past and I think during that time it was $15? Not sure if it's still that price, but for that price it was a winner! Lobster + salad and rice ? What more can you ask for since that's basically a steal in today's economy. Anyway , I was in the area recently and decided on diners for dinner. I was really craving ahi katsu, unfortunately my go to spot was already closed since I decided on dinner a little after 8pm ish? So I thought .. well diners has ahi katsu supposedly .. why not give it a try. I wasn't expecting much since it was Diner's BUT needless to say.. their ahi katsu is DELICIOUS. Seasoned well and cooked to perfection! I love the sauce they drizzle on the katsu. I should've asked for extra sauce on the side had I known it was gonna be yummy! But that's something to keep note of on my next visit in the future. I definitely would order this plate again! And continue to adventure out on their menu lol. A tip to keep in mind : they do have signs posted by their windows to be patient when ordering because they do take a bit to make and give you your order since they are always short staffed. And there's normally alot of people waiting or ordering since lots come to this establishment right after work or in between work or just simply there for a bite to grab. So prepare to wait .. but sometimes you can be lucky where it doesn't take as long. It does truly depend on time and the day I guess. Also one last thing, my personal opinion , I think Diners is worth grabbing food from. Whether you're hungry , in the area or wanting to grind. Some people have mixed reviews or bad experiences but me personally , I always had a good outcome. Oh also before I forget their steak is delicious too (LOL) , never ordered it for myself but I shared some of it with one of my relatives who ordered their steak before. Give this place a shot!

Maybe the menu change a little but same ordering counter limited tables with the cement seating like I remembered over 20years ago lol . I had their breakfast special not bad @ $9.95 2 eggs, rice, choice of meats , I decided on Vienna sausage and they gave 7 pieces very generous I've been to places they either gave between 4-5 . Service was like usual pretty slow the lady at the counter was getting the phone orders and the live customers orders mix up . So it took awhile with only 2 customers in front of me . So, when a hair was found in my daughters cheesecake it was a bit shocking! The waiter recognized the grotesque error in production and immediately ask is she wolike another slice. She agreed and was presented with the hair free 8.50 version. It is common practice to not only provide the option of replacing the product for the customer but to remove the charge for the hair laced food from the bill. This action not only expresses the restaurants remorse but signifies their desire to keep you as a returning customer. Unfortunately this did not occur nor was any Kama' Aina discount applied (resident discount). Curious to know if the assumption that we, African Americans, are not aware of the rights a d wrongs in the service industry. Nonetheless, as a travel provider for tourists here in Hawaii, I will not longer recommend or refer tourists to Nico's pier 38 from this day forward. So sad. I expected more from this Honolulu establishment.
