Ordered: Catch of the Day - Salmon and made it a Spicy Salmon. I don't know if it was because it was fresh but my goddness the salmon was exceptional. It was tender, flavorful. The sauce complimented really well without overpowering the fish at all. Even though I only had one fish it was all I needed to come home with a glowing review. I think the key was getting the catch of the day which is what the owner emphasized on and he pulled through. There was no line when I went in but there was one forming behind me at around 2:00 on a Saturday. Seating is small but its there. Parking is also quite limited but it is there. Don't miss out on this one, I think it delivered quite well!

Next time I'd probably go with the shoyu instead since I was looking for a bit more flavor. One thing they absolutely get right is the fish itself. It's incredibly fresh, buttery, and almost melt in your mouth tender. Compared to other well-known poke spots, I actually preferred the quality and flavor of the fish here. The only reason I'm taking off one star is the rice. They use regular jasmine rice, and I really think sushi rice would make a huge difference. Since poke is essentially fish and rice, the rice should complement the fish instead of feeling like an afterthought. Service was quick and straightforward. You tell them what you want, they build your bowl, you pay, and you're on your way. The shop itself is very small with no indoor seating, just a couple of outdoor tables, so I'd consider this more of a grab-and-go spot than a place to dine in. Off the Hook delivers consistent, high-quality poke bowls (trays?) in the heart of beautiful Manoa Valley. I've been coming to Off the Hook since it opened way back in 2018. While the prices have steadily increased, the delicious poke has remained the same. For poke bowls, you have several options to consider: 1) Mini or regular size 2) Rice option (white, brown, sushi, or green salad) 3) One or two choices of poke At this point I've tried almost every one of their poke offerings, and they are all fantastic. You cannot go wrong with whatever you choose. However, I'd say 95% of the time I stick with the Cold Ginger Ahi and the Spicy Ahi. These are guaranteed hits. I also really like the Wasabi Furikake Ahi. Lastly, makes sure you load up on their free toppings! Masago, tempura flakes, and scallions. Yummmy!

Off the Hook advertises auction-fresh ahi, which distinguishes it from other poke joints that use previously frozen fish. Since I was a first-timer, I opted for a sampler: 1/4 # of each of the following: Shoyu Poke, Kilauea Fire, and the signature Cold Ginger Ahi, which my friends have been raving about. All three were good and seasoned perfectly: just the right amount of sauce. My favorite, hands-down, was the Cold Ginger ahi, which pays homage to the Cantonese ginger-scallion sauce served over chicken, and not oily: wonderfully fresh grated ginger in this! Shoyu was also on point: nice sweet umami sauce. Was actually expecting much more spice in the Kilauea Fire, which had a mild chili flavor. Miso gave it depth and richness, making the sauce gochujang-like in flavor. Arguably, the only downside would be the price point: 1LB= $33.99 1/2LB= $16.99 1/4LB= $8.49: expensive, but excellent-quality product, and definitely fresh, with melt-in-the-mouth fish.

They give you a hefty amount of rice and poke with every bowl; I always have some left over every time and their poke flavors are always SO amazing, regardless of what combination you choose (although, I would recommend their Gingah and Spicy Shoyu together). Although I love their bowls, I would absolutely recommend getting their pound of poke deal. You can divvy up the weight of poke any way you want, so usually my husband and I get a quarter of a different flavor poke and just make our rice at home--the only downside to doing this is that you don't get the fun toppings (furikake and crunchy mochi). Also, just a disclaimer, their space is extremely small with limited bar-type seating, so plan to take your bowl/food to go if you want to be comfortable. The only reason why I'm docking 1 star is because unfortunately, some of their toppings are a little too expensive to add on for the amount that you get. They know what they are doing and they do it well. They are all very kind and helpful too. You can choose hot rice or sushi rice on your poke bowl, but I always recommend sushi rice. I always order with my eyes, so I can never finish my two choice poke bowl.
