TL;DR Fantastic…read morepoke. Manoa represent!!! ----- Off the Hook Poke lives up to the hype. There's a constant line out the door filled with locals and tourists alike. And for good reason. Off the Hook delivers consistent, high-quality poke bowls (trays?) in the heart of beautiful Manoa Valley. I've been coming to Off the Hook since it opened way back in 2018. While the prices have steadily increased, the delicious poke has remained the same. For poke bowls, you have several options to consider: 1) Mini or regular size 2) Rice option (white, brown, sushi, or green salad) 3) One or two choices of poke At this point I've tried almost every one of their poke offerings, and they are all fantastic. You cannot go wrong with whatever you choose. However, I'd say 95% of the time I stick with the Cold Ginger Ahi and the Spicy Ahi. These are guaranteed hits. I also really like the Wasabi Furikake Ahi. Lastly, makes sure you load up on their free toppings! Masago, tempura flakes, and scallions. Yummmy!

Off the Hook advertises auction-fresh ahi, which distinguishes it from other poke joints that use previously frozen fish. Since I was a first-timer, I opted for a sampler: 1/4 # of each of the following: Shoyu Poke, Kilauea Fire, and the signature Cold Ginger Ahi, which my friends have been raving about. All three were good and seasoned perfectly: just the right amount of sauce. My favorite, hands-down, was the Cold Ginger ahi, which pays homage to the Cantonese ginger-scallion sauce served over chicken, and not oily: wonderfully fresh grated ginger in this! Shoyu was also on point: nice sweet umami sauce. Was actually expecting much more spice in the Kilauea Fire, which had a mild chili flavor. Miso gave it depth and richness, making the sauce gochujang-like in flavor. Arguably, the only downside would be the price point: 1LB= $33.99 1/2LB= $16.99 1/4LB= $8.49: expensive, but excellent-quality product, and definitely fresh, with melt-in-the-mouth fish.

Absolutely no regrets. The poke was the best we have ever had, so fresh, such unique flavors. The Gingah avocado is one I will remember for the rest of my life. Staff was welcoming and we felt the Aloha vibe here so it was absolutely the most perfect first stop! There is some indoor seating (about 5 chairs) and a picnic table outside.

First, the staff is always so kind, accommodating, and patient. If you're ever on the fence, they're always so willing to help guide you in the right direction to give you the best poke experience. Although they've only got a few flavors of Poke, it's perfectly enough! They give you a hefty amount of rice and poke with every bowl; I always have some left over every time and their poke flavors are always SO amazing, regardless of what combination you choose (although, I would recommend their Gingah and Spicy Shoyu together). Although I love their bowls, I would absolutely recommend getting their pound of poke deal. You can divvy up the weight of poke any way you want, so usually my husband and I get a quarter of a different flavor poke and just make our rice at home--the only downside to doing this is that you don't get the fun toppings (furikake and crunchy mochi). Also, just a disclaimer, their space is extremely small with limited bar-type seating, so plan to take your bowl/food to go if you want to be comfortable. The only reason why I'm docking 1 star is because unfortunately, some of their toppings are a little too expensive to add on for the amount that you get. Other than that, Ryder's will not disappoint--I promise! I always recommend this Poke Shop to all of our visitors and I'm not stopping now--try Ryder's out if you're in the area!

I was skeptical but by the end of the meal, I wanted to come back for more! What a great surprise that speaks to the delicate and fresh flavors here. // Shoyu onion ahi SO FRESH! Fish was flavored perfectly and not overly salty. Again, there's no toppings to add on here but don't let that stop you. The fish itself was flavorful enough where you don't even miss the additional toppings. I think that speaks a lot about the combination of umami flavors that keeps you wanting more each bite. If you're looking to appreciate simplicity done very well, Maguro Brothers does a fantastic job of highlighting the poke/fish itself! I keep thinking about this meal. It's way more than just "seasoned fish and rice"! Line was long but actually moved very quickly. There's a good number of seats/tables outside of the store.

I lived in Japan for four years and this is the level of fresh fish I remember eating there. Japanese people do not mess around when it comes to raw fish. They know what they are doing and they do it well. They are all very kind and helpful too. They have gluten free tamari and can prepare your order without regular soy sauce if you let them know you need to eat gluten free. I don't know why they have received any score less than 5 stars. I think whoever is leaving them low scores is a competitor or is tasteless. おいしかったです!

You might be able to find street parking on King St. or just carpool with friends. When you walk into the store, there's glass display cases with poke and other foods. There's cooked fish, dips, musubis and side dishes too. I like to get the Yuzu chiso ahi and the spicy ahi two choice poke bowl. You can choose hot rice or sushi rice on your poke bowl, but I always recommend sushi rice. I always order with my eyes, so I can never finish my two choice poke bowl. I save it for later as a late night snack, cause the poke is too good to waste. The store is super chill and has a local plate lunch takeout vibe? The cool part is the open kitchen. You can see the staff working while you order. Everyone is chatting and having a good time. It's a welcoming atmosphere.

Typically, I like a salad base. I forgot to say earlier because they had already stacked my bowl with the sushi rice base, but I asked the cashier if I could get a salad base with unagi side sauce instead. They were accepting and said they could stack the salad on top. I didn't get the unagi sauce in the moment, but I wasn't upset either because I enjoy salad without sauce too. To my shock, they remembered I asked, found us, and brought it out to our table! 20/10 service, 20/10 poke
