Hubby Lunch from @Aloha Cones today. Looks like a Poke Bowl to me?? Heehee! He says that it tasted good too.
Tami C.

Aloha Ahiahi, from Hawai'i Nei :) \000/..... Yikes, it's sure been awhile since I've writen any Reviews here on Yelp?!?!?..... Welp, for this place @Aloha Cones, located right on *School St.*, which is very close to where we live & my Hubby is the one who will Usually head out on his days off & pick us up our Lunch Grindz!!! Mahalo Nui, always to my Husband David :) I know exactly where this Eatery is located & I've driven by here tons of times, I just never stopped on by, knowing that my Husband will drop on by here, especially he knows that I enjoy my *Shrimp Tempura*, etc. I don't, I repeat that I don't eat NO "Raw Fish!" @all, no "thank you", I've tried it before *Sashimi*, once before when my late Dad :(, insisted on me trying "Raw Fish", probably because my Dad was an avid Fisherman & he really wanted me to try his Fresh Sashimi, that he & his very good Male Friend & my Dad probably Caught & was excited, knowing that my Mom & my Sister Randi enjoys eating the Sashimi my Dad always would Cut the fresh fish for them @The (*Sumida Farm* = My late Dad :(, was a very Active member for the *The Aiea Boat Club*), So, I'm guessing my late Dad assumed that I would enjoy his *Sashimi* & A'ole, I hated it & spit it out (lol!) A long time ago!!, my one & only time I've tried any Sashimi in my life, yuck I say!!! Lol! It's just not for me, period!! I feel it's an acquired thing, & I just don't like it!! The reason while I'm mentioning about "Raw Fish" is because this place, @Aloha Cones does serve "Raw Fish", which my Husband will order a Bowl of it & then he'll always Order, my Favorite "Shrimp Tempura" bowl w/lots of rice (yikes!), & my nice bowl of "Shrimp Tempura" meal also comes w/Fresh Avocados, A Scoop of *Imitation Crab* = (I really enjoy this food Feature!!), Cucumbers, Sprouts, Lima Beans, etc & more fillers of Cruchy goodness, which I always enjoy every bite of my meal, all the many, many times when my Husband has picked up my "Tempura Bowl" meal of yumminess!! The price for my Ono "Tempura Bowl" is if I'm correct is, $15.00+ tax, etc. I always enjoy this treat & guess what, again, I haven't stepped foot in this place yet?? (lol!), but when I do put in my Order, the Sweet Nice Lady that Usually answers the phone, is always pleasant to talk too!! My Husband David mentioned to me that this Place @Aloha Cones may be a "Ohana" Business, not 100% sure, because I've never been here yet???? Lol! I'm sure I'll come & sit down one day here in the Future @Aloha Cones & take a few more photos for my pge here on Yelp!! A definitely 5***** place to eat at, I mean honestly, their *Shrimp Tempura* isn't the biggest "Shrimp Tempura" bowl meal, but I surely enjoy it, ooh yeah, they do put this nice *Sauce* on my Shrimp Tempura, I'm thinking it could maybe be, some Unagi Sauce, Maybe??, && I don't even eat Eel either?? Go figure!! Hahaha..... Lastly, I did try their *Karaage Chicken* a few times & I enjoyed it!! But, I mostly enjoy my "Shrimp Tempura" bowl meal, which always includes (2 pieces) of Shrimp Tempura, YUM!! Aloha, from Hawai'i Nei :) Cheers! P.S. - I forgot to also mention that this Eatery @Aloha Cones is located very near "Rainbow Drive In", which Rainbow Drive In is right around the Corner at the end of this Eatery on *School St.*.

Got a special off their instagram page for some delicious sashimi grade shoyu ahi and sesame ahi poke, and it really was delicious and fresh! I mostly ate it with white rice for a make my own poke bowl, but I also added a side of poke chips for $5 for some variety, and it was incredibly light and tasty. I can't wait to return!

Best poke I've ever had! The woman at the counter was so friendly. I added extra salmon - the fish was incredibly fresh. It's a small place, but the atmosphere is very warm and welcoming

College kid is arriving back home for Christmas and he begs me to have a poke bowl in the car as soon as I pick him up and he doesnt want supermarket stuff...Aloha Cones to the rescue they are open on Sunday till 4pm. The dragon bowl ($18.95) is delicious! Shrimp tempura, spicy ahi, sushi rice, unagi sauce, ocean salad, crab salad, cucumber. It's one of our favorite poke places. The price is a little steep but overall poke prices in hawaii have gone up. They have ample parking behind the shop. You can dine in on the counter or take out. Efficient friendly service and it's one of the few places that makes that delicious Sushi cake. I haven't gotten one yet but plan to for a special occasion. My kids gonna be a happy camper with this dragon bowl!

Ahi poke, spicy tuna and Ora King Salmon

The food was good, the fish was cut well and was fresh. The service was great and they made us feel at home. The ambiance was small town with locals dropping in for lunch. The location it self is bar seating. Portions were generous and its a no frill poke bowl but all the ingredients were on point. Their specialty was the Ora King Salmon, I highly recommend getting this it was delicious.

What a fantastic Mother's Day gift! My Son and Daughter-in-law are always coming up with great gifts to bestow on me for birthdays, Christmas and Mother's Day. This particular surprise was dropped off on Saturday and was absolutely gorgeous to look at. It's hard to tell how much that delightful sushi-cake weighed but it was heavy. I wish I had taken more pictures but once we started cutting into it I was just wanting to savor every bite. The roses on top were Ahi, Salmon and Hamachi with Ikura and small slices of sashimi in between and edible flowers to brighten it up. The inside was layered with crab salad, avocado thinly sliced cucumber tasting like a California roll and spicy tuna underneath that. The sides were sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds. Actually loved the rice as it wasn't sweet and perfectly soft. A perfect gift idea or a shared pot luck or just served with sake for a friends evening. It's a winner! Business is located on School Street where the old Kam Bakery used to be. Shared parking lot and the owner is very helpful. It came with containers of wasabi, sliced ginger and ponzu sauce. Shoyu was offered but we have plenty at honey.

2 Choice Combo - wasabi masago ahi poke and hamachi sashimi

The food was delicious, the fish tasted fresh and I'll say the presentation is picture perfect. I guess the only downside was just the nature of everything being in a bowl because I couldn't get to the rice, I had to keep shifting all the fish, cucumber slices, and shredded daikon that sat on top around so I could get to the rice. My friend and I got there when it opened so needless to say we were served very quickly and there was lots of space for us to sit down. What was very nice is we didn't feel rushed to get out of the place after we finished eating as my friend and I were also catching up with each other while we ate. The eating area is pretty much just counter space, which was clean and there was a sufficient amount of space between each bar stool so if the place was completely full, I wouldn't have felt crowded in my seat. I guess it might be because my friend and I are both short, but I felt a little bit like a child as the bowl of food sat only a few inches below my chin because of how high the countertop was relative to the height of the bar stools.

Poke nachos
Stacy S.

I love poke nachos but I have yet to find a place in east Honolulu that makes them, so I did a quick search on my handy dandy Yelp app and Aloha Cones popped up! Although they are about 25 min away, the photos of their poke nachos looked yummy enough to give it a try. I called my order in and by the time I got there, it was ready. The lady at the counter was very friendly and I assumed she was the owner. There was only one other person there - the cook. This is a hole-in-the-wall in Kalihi, with a few parking spots in the back of their eatery. For landmark purposes, they're right next to Rainbow Drive Inn. The poke nachos are usually spicy but I asked for a non-spicy version with shoyu ahi, which they gladly created for me. I got the nachos to go and by the time I got home and popped the lid, I was surprised how much they could fit in that box! The poke was very fresh and sliced appropriately. It came with seasoned poke over chips, drizzled with unagi and aioli sauce, topped with tomatoes, white and green onions. They also had a scoop of crab on top. The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the wonton chips. I prefer mine on the super crispy side and these were not. They were good, but I've had better. The price was $17.95 + tax which is very reasonable given the amount that they serve. I could make two meals out of it. It's definitely worth checking out and supporting this small business!

Delicious fresh Poke!!!! Our family stopped by here on our way from the airport to our hotel and it was delicious!!!! The staff is very friendly. The location is small, and they don't have tables but a counter with stools. I was traveling with my family (a group of 7), and no one was inside, so we were able to sit and eat there. Yelp reports this business is close on Sundays but they are open on Sundays now. Now let me tell you about the Poke. This is probably one of the best pokes I've ever had! It is fresh, and the flavor is perfect in every bite. The rice is also perfect which makes the bowls even better. I had the Dragon Bowl 5/5, which comes with shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, cucumbers, crab meat, and some other items, and it was exactly what I was hoping for! Several of us had that bowl, and we all agreed it was the best! We also tried the Poke Nachos 5/5, and they were also really good! Everything is prepped fresh when you get there, so the chips for the nachos were fried after we ordered. This is a must try location in Hawaii!

If you're looking for the best Sushi bowl in the world you need to come here! They use fresh fish straight from the auction every day and they prepare their bowls very differently from other typical poke bowls. Their Sushi bowls are very fresh and cannot be compared to any other place to be quite honest. You ever go home after eating somewhere and then think about the place and crave it again ? Yeah that's this place! Just writing this review has me wanting to go back tomorrow! On special occasions to be different I do order their sushi cake which comes with the layers of spicy ahi and crab in the middle and then topped with their fresh sashimi selection of the day and topped with Ikura and edible flowers! This cake always impresses whatever party I am going to or any person that I'm gifting it to! They do not disappoint!

Today I got to taste the Spicy Tuna Poke for $17.75 and they gave a very large portion and it was fresh and good taste to the last bite. Also, the cook/server was very helpful and friendly.

Aloha, Aloha Cones! :) Ordered a sushi cake for my birthday and I audibly gasped seeing it for the first time. It was perfect. The glitter on the sashimi, the little pink flowers, the layered cucumber and fish underneath -- the attention to detail was apparent on every aspect of this cake. While ordering, the lady I was speaking to was the sweetest and so patient, I had such a great experience! Thank you for the beautiful cake to accompany me on my special day. I must say it was quite difficult to take apart this lovely piece of art.

Aloha Cones Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Aloha Cones

Do they do sushi cakes still?

Yaassss!! I'd make the order at least a week in advance. Customer service was very responsive and nice!!

Do they have seating?

No, they have a narrow counter that lines the walls but you have to stand and eat in a narrow space. Best to do takeout and eat somewhere more scenic, like a nearby park.

Are they still open for business?

They are still on business. I went there twice recently. Both tasty. Their phone did not work both time for different reason.

Two young guys were behind the counter and I was their only customer. Not knowing the routine, I asked and the guy said to pick my base and said I could have half rice and half greens, which I went with. I then had 4 choices so added pickled onions, eggs, hummus, and a tomato salad. Then added on dressing. When I asked if I got the protein as a part of it, I was told yes, so I chose the steak. It was a huge salad and everything was fresh and will last me for several days. The reason I am taking off a star and giving 4 instead of 5 is because I was charged extra for the protein which should have been explained. With my tip it was $23. I will go back though, it was very good. But the people dishing up the food should offer more explanations.

I want this place to stick around! That being said I did not really like my meal. I want to believe it's on me for choosing the wrong combo but I had a couple of issues. First, at least when I went, the rice was sitting out in a separate dish and was room temperature. I would like the rice to at least be warm, even better if it had some fragrant flavor like saffron rice should but I didn't taste it. Second, I got the falafel, which is something best served fresh or it gets dried out, unfortunately it was very dry even when dipping in the tzatziki so I did not finish it. The harissa sauce mixed with tzatziki was really good so I'm hopeful that a fresh and hot falafel with warm rice would have been much better than what I had today. Willing to try again. The staff was young but sweet and helpful, no complaints there.

Lunch in Honolulu, Hawaii…read more.. I drove past this familiar logo of HiBlend Health Bar & Cafe and had to stop by because it was in an unfamiliar location. This cafe used to be in the Samsung Plaza on Keeaumoku Street, but now it's on Kaheka Street, near Don Quijote. The address is King Street, but the entrance is on Kaheka Street. The menu is still healthy and has expanded. That's why I got the HI Burger. It was a local shortrib smashed beef patty with Jack cheese, tomato, bacon, and avocado on a brioche bun (from La Tour Bakery), topped with garlic aioli sauce... delicious! All ingredients are locally sourced (when possible)! Service was very friendly, knowledgeable, efficient, and polite. Thanks for answering all of my questions! The only obstacle would be the parking. I sat inside (because it was air-conditioned) and I faced my car because I didn't feed the meter... LOL! I ate quickly because I was really hungry... and it was such a tasty, satisfying burger! Note: there are only two counter seats inside, and 12 seats outside on the sidewalk.

I noticed a QR code on the door for online ordering, scanned it, grabbed an outdoor table and figured I'd give that a try. I ordered the Smoked Salmon and Bacon sandwich, the Apple Pecan Salad with balsamic dressing, and a large cold brew. I paid online and sat outside for maybe 15-20 minutes. I never did figure out whether I was supposed to get a notification that my order was ready, so eventually I just went inside to check. Sure enough, it was ready. Easy enough, and everyone I interacted with was incredibly kind. Then I got home and opened everything, and THAT is when I became really impressed. I had included a note with my order that I planned to eat the salad the following day and asked that the wet ingredients be kept separate. They absolutely understood the assignment. Everything was packaged so thoughtfully. The Apple Pecan Salad was beautiful, incredibly fresh and substantial, with the ingredients carefully separated so it would keep. It wasn't some obligatory pile of greens tossed into a container. You could actually see the care that went into making it. The Smoked Salmon and Bacon sandwich was equally good. Fresh, generously filled and absolutely delicious. I ate half the sandwich and some of the salad and was completely satisfied. Between the two, I can easily get four meals out of what I ordered, which makes the value even better. And the cold brew? Wowzer. Robust and delicious! I think what impressed me most was simply the level of care. A sandwich and a salad aren't complicated foods, but doing simple food really well takes effort. Fresh produce, good ingredients, thoughtful preparation, paying attention to a customer's request, and putting out food that looks every bit as good as it tastes. I felt that in this order. I actually tipped 15% when I ordered because I was thinking, okay, this is basically grab-and-go. After I got home and ate the food, I wished I'd tipped 20%. It genuinely felt good spending my money here. This was visit number one, and they've already set the benchmark. I really hope they stay exactly like this, because what a find. I will absolutely be back.

It was cold and clumped together, which took away from the overall bowl experience. On the positive side, the service was friendly, and the shop is located inside the Liliha Food Court. The food court was clean, had plenty of seating, and made for a comfortable place to eat. While I don't think I'd order another poke bowl here because of the rice, the poke itself was good enough that I might consider ordering it separately in the future. For now, I'll probably stick with my usual poke spots.

Nico's Pier 38: Fresh Off the Boat and Onto Your Plate!…read more BLUF: Another fantastic meal at Nico's Pier 38! Incredibly fresh seafood, delicious preparations, and a wonderful harborfront setting overlooking the commercial fishing boats. When your restaurant is just two buildings away from the Honolulu Fish Auction, you can't get much closer to the source...! The Details: My wife and I returned to Nico's Pier 38 for another terrific meal, this time sharing a couple of dishes that absolutely hit the spot! Service has always been great for us here; tonight was no exception! We started with some fresh ahi shoyu limu poke from the adjoining fish market. Delicious! Then came the crab and artichoke dip from the restaurant menu, served with your choice of wonton chips or garlic and herb-brushed bread. We went with the bread, and what a great decision! Warm, freshly baked, and absolutely perfect for scooping up that delicious dip! For our main course, we split a daily special of miso black cod with kabayaki sauce, accompanied by rice, bok choy, and carrots prepared with plenty of wonderful garlic. The fish was beautifully prepared, tender, and flavorful. Another winner! One of the things I particularly appreciate about Nico's is its location and commitment to fresh seafood. They're situated just two buildings away from the United Fishing Agency and the Honolulu Fish Auction at Pier 38, where they hand-select wild-caught Hawaiian fish each morning. The auction is the only live fish auction of its kind in the United States! Add in the casual waterfront atmosphere, views of the working fishing harbor, and the restaurant's impressive collection of awards, and you've got a place that's well worth venturing beyond Waikiki to experience. And here's another fun bit of trivia! Nico's Pier 38 caught the attention of Guy Fieri, who featured the restaurant on Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, Season 8, Episode 11, "Triple D Goes Hawaiian," back in April 2010! Guy explored the Honolulu Fish Auction and the incredibly fresh seafood making its way into Nico's kitchen. After eating here, I can certainly understand why this place earned a spot on his show! Five stars again! Fresh fish, great food, and a genuine taste of Honolulu's working waterfront. We'll definitely be back!

Nice and chic restaurant. It's easy to find. They have a whole parking lot shared with other…read morebusinesses but it fills up quick. Soft Shell Crab Pasta: OMG LOOOOVVVEEEE. I've never tried soft shell crab before and theirs was good! The pasta was amazing and flavorful. I wanna go back just to order it again!! Definitely a must try. Coconut Matcha Cloud: sooooo refreshing. Loved it so much I tried recreating it at home lol. Emphasis on the "try." Flan: I love flan so I was happy to see it on the dessert menu. It was so yummy and the right amount of sweetness.

Came here on two different occasions, once for lunch and once for dinner. The service was very…read moreinteresting, it wasn't pushy, but it wasn't passive either. The best way that I can describe it, was that our servers were always a little socially awkward. Not to mention on both occasions, we arrived before the tables to the immediate left/right from us, but got served after them. And when I had looked over, the tables nearest us had ordered similar items, maybe it's just a coincidence that it happened both times? Nevertheless, aside from that, the dining room and bar are clean. Depending on what you order, and how much you order, the 2-tops may not feel big enough, but if you do a little Tetris, it always works out in the end. The crab pasta dish is one of the items I tried first, with the pasta sauce being very rich. I would've preferred the crab to be on the crunchier side, or placed on the edge of the bowl, instead of on the pasta, as it turned soggy towards the end, sort of like an after thought as opposed to complimenting the dish. As for the Vietnamese beef stew that was delicious. It automatically came with a warm baguette, which was very crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. I chose to add rice noodles inside the stew, to which it did not disappoint. Their spring rolls were ok, though it felt like they were previously frozen and reheated as opposed to made fresh. Only 2 options for dessert, thus, we opted to grab the dessert course elsewhere down the street. Overall, the flavors are there, hoping that the service is a little better the next time around.
