I don't want to compare this place to another famous Acai Bowl joint, but I love ALO Cafe for lots of reasons. 1) It's a smaller, family own chain that is less known to tourist. 2) Acai bowls are loaded with fresh fruits and always delcious 3) Reasonably priced 4) Staff is always friendly and very chill I always feel rushed and sufficanting from all the tourists from other spot and glad I found this chain. I went to the Bishop location, but came to this one because it was closer to my hotel. This location was a little tricky to find, because signage is kind of small and hidden. I definitely got my steps in because I lapped this store 3 times before realized I was power walking by it. read more

It is made with fresh veggies and a housemade curry sauce that is light and flavorful. After enjoying an Açaí Bowl and Coffee for breakfast at their original location in Waikiki, I just had to try their lunch options at SALT at Our Kakaʻako! It was our last day on vacation in Honolulu and healthy lunch options were at the tip of my tastebuds. I saw photos of the Coconut Curry & Veggie bowl, so I was determined to stop by on the way to the airport. So happy we did because my tummy was happy!! In addition to the curry bowl, we ordered another one of their Signature Bowls: Lilikoi Bowl! We enjoyed this so much in Waikiki, we had to have it again! My niece and I decided to try this plant-based eatery located on the Auahi Street side of SALT in Kaka'ako. First thing we noticed was that it was dog friendly as there was a bowl of water outside the establishment. The menu looked interesting, and having a special $12.00 food & drink paring was what we went for. We both ordered the Avocado Toast (crispy only on the outside crusts but flavorful in the center), and Homemade Ginger Ale, which was refreshing and not too sweet. There isn't a lot of seating but we managed to find a corner spot until something more roomy opened up. The place was hopping, with customers waiting for their meals being served before we were, which was okay. The folks that run the place are friendly and accommodating, and even apologized for making us wait. Lots of parents and kids and a man with three little dogs came in for lunch. I can't believe that this curry is gluten free & entirely plant based because it tastes significantly better than any other curry I've tried (& I've tried many). There's something magical in this curry, I swear. The mild spice level is perfect for me, & the vegetables perfectly complement the curry. I don't usually enjoy asparagus, but it tastes great with this curry! Mango Jammin Coffee: 10/10, such a unique twist on standard coffee. This is one of their specialty drinks & I can see why - the coffee is quite strong, yet blends really beautifully with the sweetness of the mango. I enjoy eating the mango bits too :) Avocado Toast: My friend rated this a 9/10, it's a good avocado toast with the perfect amount of seasoning. The bread was toasted really nicely too. Banana Bread: 10/10, exactly what great banana bread tastes like! The banana flavor is strong & the bread is really moist. Lots of banana breads that I've tried in the past have either been really dry, don't have enough banana flavor, or sometimes a combination of both, but this banana bread was anything but! Tantan Curry Noodles: 11/10, just like the coconut curry, this one is also SO delicious!! ALÔ café has this nice small cafe vibe that I really enjoy. It's one of those places that just feels comfortable. Fits the chill SALT vibe. I've been here a few times now and this time I got their açaí bowl with peanut butter. It's actually pretty filling - more than I expected when I first tried it. I've had açaí bowls around the island before, and this one's a solid choice. Nothing groundbreaking, but it definitely does the job. The thing I like most is just the warm feeling you get when you're there. It's got that welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to stick around for a bit. I'll probably keep going back. There is not a ton of seating though so it might be wise to be ready to takeout. Inside, it has a very calm feeling with plants and boho decorations. The person who took our order was kind and our cacao bowl came out quickly. We got the small cacao PB banana bowl. It was good. Definitely a solid option for this bowl. It reminded me of the monkey bowl from Lanikai Juice. It was a bit pricey, as some of the items on the menu are. The food items range from noodle bowls to other bowls to acai bowls to toasts to drinks. They market the cafe as plant-focused with local and healthy ingredients so that might justify some of the price. It was a cute and sweet spot that we are glad we tried! read more

I love the Salt complex because it's a hip, local-friendly place to be in Kaka'ako area. Lots of their shops, restaurants, and experiences are owned, operated, and/or organized by Native Hawaiians or family owned businesses. Honestly, that's what brought me into Alo Cafe, even though Morning Brew is right next door. While I like the restaurants here, I was looking for a place to enjoy a good cup of coffee. I don't feel like that was my experience as it was scalding hot and I had to wait for the barista/cashier to take care of their line of customers before finishing my drink, which they started preparing before the customers arrived. I'm not sure that I'd return for coffee but they do have lots of tasty looking smoothies and food items on the menu. read more

The vibe here is instantly calming: clean, earthy decor, light music, and that subtle herbal aroma that already makes you feel lighter before the first sip. The Stress Relief itself was perfectly balanced -- smooth, slightly floral, and just the right amount of sweetness. You can taste hints of mint and maybe chamomile, making it feel more like a wellness ritual than just a drink. Presentation was beautiful too; served in a sleek cup with care, which added to the overall mindful experience. Service was warm and attentive. The staff genuinely seemed proud of what they serve and took time to explain the ingredients. It's rare to find a café that blends wellness, aesthetic, and good flavor -- but Alo nails it. Simple things like acknowledging a customer is at the counter and greeting them would be nice. I was at the counter and the girl behind the counter just looked at me and continued on with what she was doing. Then after a few minutes another girl came up and took my order. We had a couple of their acai bowls and the vegetable curry. Acai bowls were good. Fresh fruits and nicely presented. It is a bit pricey tho. The curry was very good as well. Nice spice. Grand opening special was worth the visit! Located in Salt at Kakaako along the outside. Cute and small restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining. The menu were all vegan options. Look who's here in Kaka'ako ;-) ALO Cafe in the former J's location and I'm just so excited as I've been loving their smoothies and now that they're in Kaka'ako their Minty Hawaiian has always been my go to and it's all plant based vegan. Parking is easier than you think in SALT one hour is free without validation and with some metered street parking through the area getting a healthy yet yummy sip is now easy here at Kaka'ako, staff here are still new and wasn't as...prepared it seemed. Not only is everything plant based here it's not just the usual smoothies and açaí bowl but savory items like ramen, salads and coconut curry are available as well...how about free WiFi! There is one slight hiccup is the A/C...none here and seem to take in the natural breeze I guess but at this early morning time I was sweating and hope it won't be like this during the summertime. It's a very charming cafe at SALT in Kakaako that has some of the prettiest entrees you'll ever see. Not only is it appealing but delicious and healthy as well! I had the coconut curry + veggie; homemade coconut curry, organic rice, sautéed cauliflower, asparagus, and red cabbage. It was delicious! The curry was very flavorsome with a hint of coconut, not overwhelming. The vegetables were nicely sautéed so they weren't mushy but crisp. I also had the Jammin' Iced Coffee, a cafe latte with homemade lilikoi mix (pitaya & berries) jam. I chose to have mine with oat milk. It was really refreshing and satisfying. I enjoy a good cup of coffee, and this one was an interesting blend of ingredients. It all blended together well without taking away from the flavor of the coffee. The service was excellent; pleasant and welcoming. There's different types of seating both in and out of the cafe. Very comfortable place to relax and enjoy a nice meal. This Alo is located in SALT Kakaako. It sounds like there are a couple other Alo locations in Honolulu, but this one is open on the weekends and good for a chill brunch with friends or a study sesh on your own. I came in with a few friends and we ordered drinks and food from the counter. It's very aesthetic inside and I like the big communal table, but also the smaller more intimate tables and counter seating. Basically I like a variety to choose from. I got the mango sweetie drink, but my friend got the can go coffee. I didn't try it but she said it was too weird haha. I really liked the veggie curry, but I thought it was weird that there was just a clump of raw arugula on top. The avocado toast was just ok, I don't think the bread was toasted, but the seasonings sprinkled on top added flavor. The guy behind the counter took our orders and brought us our food and drinks. He was nice enough, but this isn't a sit down restaurant, it's more like a coffee shop that also has some food options. I thought it was weird that they didn't have parking validation tickets (they ran out) and they told us to get it at a different shop in SALT. That's a big no no for me. In the future, if I come back to Alo in SALT, I'd try to find street parking. If I can't find street parking and end up parking in the lot, I'd go next door to the cafe or somewhere else in SALT. read more

I ordered the Firecracker Ramen, and Dragon bowl, and both were so tasty and delicious! The food was fresh and you could tell the meals were prepared with excellent care and love for the food and customer experience! The cafe was so welcoming and relaxed it was easy to find a table and enjoy your food in a pleasant comfortable and clean environment. This is an amazing neighborhood cafe that locals and tourists should not miss out on trying!
