Allure Nail Bar in Burke, VA was the MOST disgusting nail bar I have ever been to. I read good reviews about Allure and thought I would try it out. What a complete disappointment. First off, the nail technicians that worked with me were very nice. So, I am sorry to throw them under the bus here. That was the only positive thing I can reveal about this place. From the moment I set foot in the nail bar, there were 3 nail technicians just sitting around chatting; no one greeted me until I stood at the counter for 10 minutes. The technicians just sitting and staring at me, said nothing, like, "Hello, welcome to Allure." After 15 minutes, I had several technicians try to rush me to pick a color and then disappeared when I was looking at the nail kiosks. Other nail technicians came by to ask me what I wanted then they also disappeared when I showed them a picture of what I had hoped to do with my nails and toes. One of the technicians waved her arms at to small kiosks and a display and said those kiosks (and display) were the only Gel colors available to me for what I wanted. When I picked out several of the colors, they told me they did not have them. Then, again, the technician waved her arms over the kiosks and display. Then, there was the issue of clear communication. Finally, I had to ask if I would be able to speak with someone in English because no one else was able to communicate with me (and I am not being mean here...I support cultural diversity and I love Vietnamese people and I was an ESOL teacher for 20+ years, so it is not a negative dig). Finally, I decided to go with a simple color that was available, but that was just the start of the horror. One huge red flag were the nasty nail polishes. These bottles of polish were like those out of a garbage can. They looked as if they had NEVER been cleaned---EVER; sticky gross caked on polish (all over the bottles) with visible handprints on the plastic bottle brush tops almost made me want to throw up. The polishes in the clear boxes were ALL disgustingly used 1000 times without ever being wiped down or thoroughly cleaned; the polish used on my feet was sticky and caked all over the top of the bottle, and the technician had to keep shaking the bottle to get polish out. It looked like the dregs of the dregs. I was so disgusted and disturbed by the polishes, I should have just walked out right then and there. Next, the filthy pedicure area was a sight. The chair arm rest table looked like someone had just eaten their lunch there and just left the grossness all over the little space. No one bothered to clean up. Maybe those three technicians just sitting around chatting could have done some clean up! Then I was told that the $60 Gel pedicure did not include taking off my two small toe calluses. This could easily be done with a scraper in two seconds, but it would have cost me another $15.00. I was dumbfounded that it was not included in the pedicure like it is at every other nail bar. My feet looked like ass despite the pedicure since calluses remained on the big toes. Unsightly! The technician's product and tool caddie were also filthy. There were crumbs on the surface, crud all over the products, other peoples' skin, dirt, and pieces of nail all visible on the surface. Some of the products had broken pump tops. Most alarming was that there was no visible antiseptic cleaner anywhere where tools are normally kept in jars. Nothing about that area was clean or looked like that it was even a priority. I am praying that I do not get some toe or foot fungus from that place! After the pedicure, I went over to have my nails done (Acrylic Gel). The nail bar was also just as disappointing and disgusting. Nail powder-dust everywhere, the technician's tools to remove the polish (sanding-file heads) were sitting in a gross, blackened, very unclean shot glass along with super glue tubes. The tools were clearly unorganized, uncleaned, and non- anti-bacterialized. The jar of the acrylic powder was so off putting (never ever cleaned or wiped down---crud all over the jars lid and around the threads of the jar were caked with grunge) and all lumpy. This gross acrylic powder display was in tandem with the dubious, cloudy, purple liquid whose jar was equally covered in filth. The technician then pulled out some random fat brush from a dirty drawer of tools and other junk. I was frozen in fear. Lastly, the UV light lamp was so crusty that when I placed my hands in it (like a cubby hole) I could feel the crumbly, lumpy, bumpy crud under my palms from so many who came before me. It is unfathomable that Allure Nail Bar in Burke, VA is not shut down for its terrible management for gross negligence in cleanliness and open display of filth in their products and their pedicure and manicure stations. Please DO NOT waste your health and money in this cesspool. read more

Everyone was nice! I got an acrylic refill. My nails just came out kind of clunky? Like too thick, I think because of the technique the tech used to polish the gel. It just made my nails look like they had no shape. I got home and had to file my nails myself to make them more square and match each other. I don't think I'll be back after my experience for my nails but would come back for a pedicure, maybe. read more

I made an appointment for Gel-X nails since I was disappointed with how another salon did it (check out my review a few below) and was so happy with how they turned out! I was able to make an appointment the day before and was able to be serviced right away when I arrived. Holly was my nail tech and she was thorough and meticulous throughout the whole process. They used an authentic Gel-X kit and there were no issues with the UV bonding process at all. The quality of the paint as well as the actual service was so great, my nails lasted over 4+ weeks! (I ended up only taking them off because my natural nails were growing too fast) Allure is a full service nail salon in Burke and offer gel, SNS, acrylic, Gel-X, and regular polish. They have a wide selection of colors and I admittedly took a lot longer than I would usually have since there were so many to choose from! I used to love this nail salon but unfortunately I won't be using it anymore. Came in December to get my nails done and never correct anyone but my dip was so thin and flexible that I asked her to make it harder. First she was rude about it, laughed at me and then continued to make comments about how she had 7 layers on my nails. My daughter who had a dip next to me had thicker nails and the normal amount of layers. When it came time to pay, she just went to the back and avoided me. I ended up giving her tip to someone to give to her but in retrospect, I definitely shouldn't have tipped. Even my 16 year old daughter said mom she laughed at you and was rude. She noticed and picked up on it but it gave me the opportunity to teach her to be kind when others aren't. Then today I took my daughter to get her nails done and no one even acknowledged her. She sat for over 10 min and no one even asked her what she was there for. I came inside and we left. I was reading recent reviews and noticed a lot of people saying it's no longer as clean and nice anymore. Sadly there are some sweet ladies there...Tracy is amazing..and Tram was great with my daughter in December but bc of the past two experiences we will go elsewhere in Burke. read more

Ouch! Be careful if you choose the #9 soft heal pedicure for calluses. Victoria got a little aggressive with the grater and nicked the side of my heel. Didn't see the eraser size scrap of skin missing since it was on the outside and there was no blood. UNTIL I walked over to McDonalds and saw blood dripping on the side of my heel. The only reason I'm giving 4 for this review is that the costs for dip powder and pedicure are much higher than all the other establishments I've been to... I started coming here as I was trying to find a place that did dip powder/SNS well. I have tried multiple places within the last year in my search of a good nail tech. I started going to Jojo about two months ago and she did a fabulous job! Not only did my nails look amazing and I received lots of compliments, she would ask how I was doing and if I was happy with length/ shape/look as she was working on my hands. She is very attentive and does an amazing job! I always come in uncertain with what I want and she never rushes me and gives great suggestions. Her design work is great and so fun! I also have to say the nails last and my nails don't end up lifting for a good while which is a problem I constantly have. Glad I came across this place and Jojo! Well...JoJo is patient, precise, and delivers every time! I've been going to her for Gel-X and they last easily 4 weeks. I have been here twice so far. The first time got a deluxe pedicure and a regular manicure and both were great. I love the massage times, it doesn't feel as if they skimp out on you. The manicure comes w a hand massage, or paraffin wax, or a shoulder massage. I like my choices here bc some days I just want a quick shoulder rub. I went back last minute earlier this week because I attempted to do my own nails for the BB concert and failed. Hanna was able to help me with my pedi/tips w dip. I did ask for a design and I showed her what I wanted. She advised me she would ask another colleague who she believed would be able to create the look I wanted and boy, did she not disappoint! Ana was able to recreate the BB heart and do it very well! I left very impressed with both ladies (bc it's good to know your strengths and weaknesses!). One thing I really appreciated is that she let me know exactly how much it would be for the design I wanted and we came up with a similar one in my budget. I moved to the area and found Allure Nail Bar after 2 'not so good' experiences in other local nail salons. Allure and my provider, Victoria, were recommended to me by a local friend. The shop is always clean and is well decorated. It's definitely more of a nail spa than salon. The decor is very modern and tasteful. The music is relaxing and the staff is professional. In the pedi part of the salon, the room is kept more quiet and dim for a relaxing experience. The staff use a bright light that is directly over your feet while working on cleaning and painting. When it's time for your relaxing massage, they turn the light off. They really take the time to help you relax. Water and an assortment of hot teas are complimentary during your service. My dip nails last 3-4 weeks! I have also had a relaxing facial from Victoria as well as eye brow tinting because mine are very light. I recommend Allure and Victoria for a wonderful experience. This is the first nail spot that I've visited in Virginia. In New York, a basic male manicure is $13.00 and it includes clipping, shaping, cuticles, finger soak, lotion, massage, and more shaping. Here, I paid $15.00, not including the tip, and all I received was clipping of the nails. Okay, I understand, things vary from state to state, but the clipping was rushed and I had to go home and even-out my nails. I was told, if I wanted a full manicure, I would have to request, and obviously, that comes with added cost. All this being said, the place was packed, and I'm sure there are solid nail technicians in the shop. I won't know, because I won't be coming back. You shouldn't have to shape your nails immediately after visiting a nail shop. Also, and this is a biggy, the nail file (which was barely used) and buffing block (not used) had nail residue from prior customers. Major no-no. read more

I get SNS dip powder, and I've gotten with tips for a while, but she encouraged me to go natural and let my natural nails grow. My nails grew so long and healthily with her. My nails would last up to 4 weeks without lifting. She's also done French tips with SNS with me as well as gel French pedis. How THIS managed to cost $82.00 before tip I will never understand. Has got to be the worst nail salon I've ever been to. She said it would be $57 for the pedicure with callus removal and scrub. Then she added it would be an extra $5 because it's gel. The color was supposed to be a pastel blue but as you can see, the color looks very much just like white. At the register she proceeds to say that it's actually an extra $25 simply because it's gel. What a disappointment and horrible experience. Not to mention the mediocre paint job. As I sit soaking for my pedi, I am reminded that a review is overdue. Thanks for my local neighborhood FB page I was so anxious to try out this new place. I also made a last minute appt with Tina who was also mentioned in the glowing posts. The place is so cool, located in the Wells Fargo and Safeway shopping center. There are about 14 pedi chairs located in a nice serene back area. The mani space is in the front with wide open windows. They offer water, tea and soda. Tina was fantastic! She knew her stuff, took her time with my pedi and was meticulous when it came to the whole process. I like how they put a new cover in the pedi bowl between each client. I also like to get a few nail designs for my fingers and toes! Tina was an expert! I could tell she knew exactly what she was doing. I loved my white colors. Fast forwarding to my next appt which is about 4 weeks later.... My gel mani and pedi are still perfect! Dam my nails for growing! I look forward to the next treatment. Great customer service at a clean and friendly shop in Burke. Allure offers full mani/pedi services - there is literally a menu of possible options for both manis and pedis. They offer gel, acrylic and SNS nails and have a huge assortment of colors- possibly the most I have seen in a single shop. The pedi lounge is in a spa, zen-like space with low lighting, massage chairs and soothing music. They use disposable plastic liners in the foot baths and that is a feature I really like. The desk staff is friendly and helpful. Appointments are preferred but the do take walk ins. read more
