My daughter really liked her haircut. I recommended to friends and family with a photo!

I've been testing out new salons since moving here with the hope of finding one I really like that also doesn't break the bank, and had high hopes for this one based on the reviews. I only ever do simple cuts, nothing fancy. My haircut, done by Anderson (a level 3 stylist), is objectively good. The skill was there. But it's definitely shorter than I wanted it. Went in for a lob, came out with an asymmetrical bob...Honestly I was panicking while he was drying it because it was starting to look like Lord Farquaad from Shrek. I asked if he could style it like in the reference pictures I showed (simple waves, to reduce Farquaad-ness). He tried to do it with the brush/dryer, which obviously wasn't working, and didn't want to use a flatiron. So I just suffered through scalding heat on my scalp and hair pulling. I got told I don't have curly hair. I got told I don't have frizzy hair. I, in fact, have both of those. Some other minor things: 1. When I got home I had some hair that was noticeably longer than the rest, like it never got cut. So...I had to do it. Just a few strands, but normally stylists check for that when your hair is dry. 2. I almost never use heat on my hair, so I asked for recs and mentioned a specific brand doesn't work for me. He immediately said he loves that brand. I said yeah...but it doesn't work for me. Anything else? "Any salon brand." Cool. Not helpful. 3. Asked for something at the end to tame the pieces that were sticking out (again, I have frizzy hair). He looked...confused? Smoothing as a last step has been standard at every other place I've been to. There is nothing in the whole salon like that? Also, my introvert-self just wants to go somewhere where I don't have to be engaged in conversation the whole time. Anyway. Won't go back, my hunt continues. read more

I've received color/cuts by the owner, Ahmet, and toners and root touch-ups with Tuba, and they ALWAYS do a beautiful job! I've experimented with different color levels, and Ahmet always makes sure I'm 100% happy with the result. Good grief! I'm now so happy this drama happened because I'm a happy duck at another salon who knows Asian hair and handles hair very gently from bleaching to shampooing. Salon simis may be a little cheaper but my scalp thanks me for breaking up with them. They used to call my scalp "sensitive" and turned out they are rough people who don't know about scalps. If you have doubts about their quality, whatever you are thinking is right. Go try a color specialty store and you will see the difference. read more

I love my hair. I asked for a full highlight and toner. That's what I got. However, I was told it would take 2 hours. It took 3 1/2 hours. Then, there was a $50 charge to blow dry my hair. I wasn't told that until I was paying. (Hadn't budgeted for that). I would've dried my hair at home. The chair was short, I am tall, my (very nice) hair dresser was shorter. So, I had to keep scooching down in the chair to get my hair done. I was aching after 3 1/2 hours. Finally, my (still very nice) hairdresser wanted to take photos of my hair. I was fine with this but I didn't really get a choice. Then, she was touching my face and the front of my neck. I wasn't asked if this was okay and I was uncomfortable. I love my hair. They did a great job. I don't think I would go back just because of the service aspect. read more

I came for just a regular haircut without much of a vision but my stylist was able to execute what I believe was best suited for me! The place was clean and surprisingly didn't smell as chemical-y as most salons do. Reasons why I took off stars: 1. My stylist kept leaving me to do something on his phone, meaning I was awkwardly sitting there looking ridiculous with my hair covering my face for several minutes at a time 2. He also failed to mention that a blowout/styling (which is usually free at the places I used to go to) would cost me extra. He did a good job so I didn't mind paying but it would've been nice to know 3. He parted my hair differently from how I normally part it and by the time I realized, it was too late to change it back. The way he ended up parting and styling it made the hair keep falling in my face so I immediately had to fix it as soon as I got to my car I paid about $85 + a 20% tip for a regular haircut with light layering & a blowout. While I was fairly satisfied with the results, I don't think I'd come back and pay that amount for the experience I got. read more

During my first visit at Salon Simis today, Anderson provided excellent service in touching up my roots and a perfect trim. I am very pleased with the color he recommended, which resulted in a natural look; the trim and the blow dry resulted in a more bouncing, and full look. The pictures shown on their website--as well as the reviews-- speak a volume as to his talent and dedication in pleasing his clients. I will be a returning customer for highlights. I've always returned from Simis with a transformation! I highly recommend Hakim, he's a master hair dresser and knows how to treat fine, curly hair. Which if you have you know is the most difficult type to style, color and treat! He's managed to give me more volume with layers and still give me a blunt cut without making it look flat! Had my haircut with Anderson today. I haven't had a proper haircut in forever (probably over 6 months) because I find it hard to find good hair stylists. My hair never comes out good and always get butchered. My mom discovered Salon Simis a few weeks ago and her haircut turned out great, so I decided to give it a try too. We had a short consultation of just him asking me what I wanted and what he thinks would work best. He ended up giving me his signature haircut and I honestly like it. I'm quite upset.....initially at the salon, I was sitting and used a mirror to see the back of my hair and it looked okay... but once I got home and stood up and pulled both sides forward, I was able to see the damage done to my hair. I asked for face framing layers and layers in the back which there are pretty much none. I even asked her to layer it more and she really only cut two more pieces... I've been getting the same haircut for years and there was not any of the usual technique done that my previous stylists have used. And I asked for curtain bangs. The color is good (got partial highlights) but somehow there is pink in my bangs which has become more and more noticeable under natural light. I really was excited to try this place following the positive reviews and my stylist was very nice but..... I am truly sad at how my hair was styled for the price that I paid for it. Update: Ahmet (the owner) and his wife are amazing and so helpful. He fixed up my hair the very next day and it is beautiful. What a wonderful place and I will definitely be back. My daughter has wanted a wolf cut for so long. I was very hesitant to cut layers into her gorgeous thick hair. Pier was awesome with us. She started by cutting long bangs and then blow drying them so we'd see how they'd look with the length that they were. Then she cut the rest of her hair to suit that length. stylish Anderson rough to work on female hair. Desperately works fast to finish quickly. He had to request 2nd opinion from boss to apply hair color on simple root touch up request. i was very disappointed; he knew that my hair was light brown k& did a black color on roots; he refused to use hair color left over to ends, so at least my hair won't show 2 extremely different colors. their impressive website is not what they offer; a simple 5' hair trimming was $85; & roots $110; Anderson was pushing my head several times that I left with awful headache no blow dry bc it is more; to use the left over, he said no! bc it will be color correction ($500) & no highlights bc it is more. be smart to search other places- Fairfax is costly& nasty attitude of hair designers. read more
