I had a great experience with Alice. She was professional and very knowledgable about hair and hair color as well as a kind disposition and very welcoming. She was personable and very communicative during the appointment which made me feel comfortable with her doing my hair. Her passion for dying hair, the chemistry, and color theory was fascinating and she does a great job of explaining the process. My whole head was bleached by a different hair stylist and it damaged most of my hair. Now that it has grown out, I wanted to try something with it. I asked her for a peachy/orange tone. Though my hair was more of an orangey, pinkish color, it faded to a perfect peach. After the appointment, my hair felt healthy, strong, and silky. Fast forward a month. Most of the color has faded but I still see some orange hues. She recommended specific shampoos/conditioners and hair routines that have kept my hair happy and healthy. Highly recommend - Alice is amazing. After moving back from Boston, I had a hard time finding a colorist who could do the denim blue tones I wanted. Enter Alice & Wonderland Studios. She reviewed the pics I brought and explained the best approach - color would start a little darker but would fade to my target color within a week or so. She also gave me a straightforward answer to my concern about breakage caused by over processing (my hair has seen a lot) and gave me a solid recommendation for a leave in conditioner and tips on how to keep the ends in great shape. I've been back once already and have been super happy with the results both times. It definitely helps to know what you want when you go, and ask any and all questions if you're unsure. I'm very torn in writing this review. I think Alice is an awesome person, and as you can see from her photos. she is an incredibly skilled artist. i've made the mistake in the past of trying to be ambitious with my look because I've found a stylist with great reviews and photos. As I mentioned in my last review, I met Alice at another salon where she fixed my hair after it was ruined by another stylist. I decided to visit Alice at her own salon because the stylist I usually go to was too hard to get an appointment with. I figured since I had worked with her before and she had great reviews and pictures, I could achieve a very ambitious look with her. My hair was dyed blonde, then dyed darker, and I was ready to go blonde again - ideally platinum. I didn't sense any hesitation on Alice's part in going for this look, so we went for it. i ended up with mostly platinum hair, with several brassy yellow parts near the roots. After I expressed dissatisfaction with this, Alice told me it was because my roots were too long and the hair farther from my scalp was not warm enough to lighten as desired. Fair point, but as I am not a hair expert, I didn't know that and I wish she had told me that to begin with so I could have considered another option. In fact, the reason I dyed my hair darker after going blonde in the first place was because I was sick of all the brassy parts and wanted to start fresh, only to have it happen again. Alice told me she thought I would have known this would happen because I should have been educated by the other stylist who dyed my hair blonde. I think its a little unprofessional to rely on another stylist's education on my hair when I am coming to you now. The other red flag is that when I first saw Alice I had the same problem, white roots near the scalp and then a ring of brassiness and yellow past the roots. When I first saw her, she said the other stylist must not have left the bleach on long enough on those parts and had put too much bleach near the front. Its interesting that the first time I had this problem it was the other stylists fault, but when it happened with her, it was my fault for letting the roots grow too long. I came back to Alice to have my roots touched up and resolve the brassy parts, which she said she would achieve with "feathering" some bleach through. I don't really know what that means but it seemed she just put more bleach on top. While she told me it would be important to not wash my hair and avoid heat styling because my hair would be dry and damaged after using more bleach, she didn't give me any warnings about hair breakage or loss. After she finished and was drying my hair, a lot of hair was falling out and she told me that would happen. Again, I wish I would have know that before the process was done. I would rather not have platinum hair if it means losing half of it. After I washed my hair at home, I noticed my hair felt incredibly thin. I used a wide tooth comb after applying some leave in conditioner and noticed an excessive amount of hair loss. Once I let my hair air dry, I noticed several broken and sticking up parts near the crown of my hair. I googled ways to mend this after bleaching hair, and interestingly noticed that all the stories I read about it were people who bleached their own hair or had a friend do it - not someone who went to a professional and spent a significant amount of money. Another thing I find strange is Alice has a bottle of Olaplex with all her products, but she didn't offer to use it on me which I would have been happy to pay for. Worse part of all, the color is still not consistent. Those brassy parts are still more yellow then the rest of my hair as our the ends of my hair. I had also given Alice some clip in extensions to tone to match my new hair color. Again, no hesitation on her part. Now that I'm missing half my hair, I figured I could use these. Well, I was quite disappointed to see that the color did not match my hair, in fact they are more purple than blonde. I contacted Alice to let her know about the breakage and that my hair color was still not consistent and that the color of the clip ins did not match. She kept insisting the clip ins did match and if I wanted them perfect I should have bought them that color. She told me the breakage was expected and she felt like she had warned me about it, but we really never had conversation about the possibility of this happening. She assumed since I had been blonde before I would have known what to expect, but this didn't happen the last time my hair was bleached. I also let her know that the virgin hair or my roots was also excessively broken and damaged, which didn't happen the last time she bleached it which makes me think the bleach was left on too long. Now I have wasted hundreds on dying my hair, buying clip ins, having the clip ins dyed but unwearable since they don't match, and will have to spend even more to get permanent extensions. read more

Alice is seriously amazing! I met her at another salon where she took me to a blonder state for the summer. Then I followed her to her salon for my fall look. Love the results! I tried different salons in Baltimore, Asian and non-Asian, and I just quit with Baltimore and started driving out further to find someone who can execute modern and trendy styles on Asian hair. Alice really listens to what you want and then works her magic. Ambience is not as important to me as the results. But you get both here! The salon is really cute. I went to Hair Cuttery and they completely messed up my hair. I wanted balayage and it turned out horribly with no blending to the point where it just looked like I had not done my roots in a year. I found Alice on Yelp and explored her webpage. I was nervous because my hair was so messed up I did not know if it could be fixed; in fact some stylists at salons said they would not touch it. Alice was a saint. She listened to my frustrations and everything that I wanted. After that she had a good idea of what I wanted and she went to work. This was my first time visiting this salon and I'm in LOVEEEE! I recently moved here from Seattle, WA and was in dire need of a cut. I did a lot of research on salons around me (Leesburg) and didn't like what I saw or read. When I first met Alice I knew we'd get along great! She's very out going and fun to talk to while she's working away on your hair. There was never an awkward moment with her like you sometimes have with other stylist. We laughed and shared stories like we were best friends. Totally made my experience awesome! As far as my hair goes, she did a super job on it! I came in not quite knowing what I wanted to do with my hair, so we spent some time going over ideas and decided on going with a bayalage which I've never done before and when it was all said and done, I fell in love with it! She nailed it on the color that I wanted the blonde to turn out and styled it in nice soft curls afterwards to show off the perfect highlights. Alice saved my hair . . . so, basically Alice saved my life. I feel fortunate to have found someone with her knowledge of chemistry and artistic edge. For what it's been through, my hair should have fallen out by now (I highly recommend Kerastase as well). The Scary Hair Journey and the Happy Ending: Just last spring I was a Balayage regular with long hair--I loved it! But then, one fateful day, I went to the Lorraine April Salon in Alexandria (save your money; avoid this place like it's a plague). I asked for a Balayage touch up; simple. My hair was wrecked! "Oops!" the stylist would repeatedly say. After that, I went to another salon in Edinburgh, Scotland (where I study). Disgusted with my Balayage-Bomb-Fail-Ugly hair I asked for a light brown, all over "natural color." Epic Fail! My hair was next to black, not even close to the six inches of light brown roots growing out. It was one of those hair colors where you think . . . I may have well just taken a permanent sharpie marketer to my hair. Four inches needed to be cut from the bottom. My hair was wrecked, ugly (FUGLY) and short. I cried, and then bought the roughest clarifying shampooI could find. I went to Alice thinking, I can just balayage all the drama away. Instead, Alice came up with a plan of action based on her professional experience. She was concerned about how my hair would look down the road, wanting it to look good not just now, but later too. That's Awesomely impressive! I felt safe, but I was a little worried the box-like color that was in my hair would put up a fight--would I leave looking like Carrot Top? Nope. I seriously did not think my hair could do this!! The crap color was removed; my hair was toned to a livable/lovable color; No hair was damaged (I didn't even need a trim); I can go back in a few months, continue the process to destination dream balayage (with some unicorn color). I got my hair done by Alice yesterday, I got the unicorn hair because I wanted to do something bold and fun. I told Alice what I wanted, and she told me what we could do, from there on it was working the magic! She really really knows what she's doing and what is going to look good. I went to Alice today after today after finding her on Yelp. I was looking for someone to do a true ombré not your typical Washington boring highlights. Alice is very friendly and knowledgable. Her shop is in s shared studio which is refreshing because it takes all the pomp and circumstance out of getting your hair done and truly lets you connect with your stylist. Alice understood immediately the look I was trying to achieve and performed it effortlessly. The color is probably one of the best I have ever received and because Alice does everything herself you don't feel like you are getting passed around between different people within a salon. I went to Alice a while ago to get a trim and ombre. I butchered my bangs and used boxed dye before, and she did an amazing job fixing it up! She suggested a light ombre? (something like that) but she basically took my black Asian hair to a nearly blonde color, leaving the roots and fading the color lighter. I was really shocked when I saw it, but I love it now! It's been growing out great Even after bleaching twice (once from box dye) my hair isn't broken. The process took about 3 hours, and she was fun to hang out with the entire time. I think I paid about 300 including tip for a color and cut. I'm usually really stingy about spending money on hair, but this was money well spent. Super happy! read more

I see Alice every couple of months to get some mix of unicorn colors in my hair. These can be long sessions because of all the steps involved, but she makes you feel right at home in the studio. She's easy to talk to but doesn't try to talk the entire time, and will let you pick shows to watch on TV. Like others have said here, she treats her clients' hair like an art piece. She knows how to blend and contrast colors, and how different textures of hair will respond differently to the same cut or color. Although most of her featured work is on long hair, she knows her way around a short cut. She took several inches off my hair last year, from layered BSL to a funky assymetrical inverted bob. Very unprofessional stylist. Very obvious keeping her clientele is not her main goal, but charging a lot of money and not caring about the results after you leave the salon is what she is about. My daughter received a Demi Single process color and the color washed out after one shower. She purchased brand new color safe products specifically for this new color and the color still washed straight out. My daughter came home on spring break to do this color and was excited and is now back at school with messed up weird toned hair and is miserable. This stylist refuses to refund my money for the color knowing my daughter is unavailable to come in and fix the color because she is away at school. I am not even asking for a refund for the entire service, just the color. She can keep her 20% and money from the cut. Stand by your work. You made $400 from us. If your service fails, you should not profit from it. Avoid this salon and stylist if you are getting Demi color. The color and your money will end up down the drain. read more

I can't say enough good things about Alice. After another stylist at a different salon destroyed my naturally red virgin hair, I went to Alice feeling basically hopeless. In an attempt to fix their mistake, the prior stylist had bleached, dyed and subsequently stripped my hair to the point where it was breaking off and had turned a horrible unattractive brassy color. It was so bad that I was embarrassed to even go outside. Alice was refreshingly straight forward with me about the damage and very minimal solutions we could try. After a lot of creativity, time and effort on her part, Alice somehow managed to turn my hair disaster into a vibrant purple choppy bob. From personal experience, I know that Alice's skill set is extremely difficult to find in a stylist- she managed to do the impossible and give me back a hairstyle that I'm happy to rock in public! Alice is very talented and a lovely person. she cares about her clients and wants us to be happy. she's cool and trendy and edgy and I'm sure many of her clients are the same....however, I'm a 43 year old single mom with a government job and so my style is fairly conservative. Alice does an amazing job coloring my hair fairly dark and people are always shocked when I tell them its dyed. she also does a great job with my cut. I have tons of layers and it always grows out lovely. I carry a bunch of Alice's cards with me so I can give them to the many folks who ask where I get my hair done. I love all the compliments I get!
