This woman Zuriashork work and offer her services under the company Addis Hiwot. She rent a space to work in the hair salon (Michel Rene; at Maple Av E, Vienna, Virginia). When I arrived she change the inicial price we talked previously. I was very surprise but I really need her services so I have to accepted. WHAT A TERRIBLE MISTAKE! I asked for a very natural brown highlights. She leave the product so long burning my hair, the color was blood and when I asked if she can change it. She get very upset and turned to black-purple. I got Zee, beware doesn't know short hair cutting, specialty seems to be long hair and education. Pros: she will educate you on hair basics, expertise is thinning hair, and blow outs. She will talk things out then cut and not pushy. This is a new "Homemade" salon, so price is reasonable. Cons: I asked for off the shoulder layered modern bob with waves. (Gabby Union new look) I got uneven layers! (so bad one side has long and the other has short layers. I wanted to cry when the blow-out flattened) Bangs: she seemed hesitated on how to achieve side bangs. She should know how to acquire side bangs; which means go long then adjust to short desired length. Or be honest and say I can't do x but I can do y good. Overall, my layers are not even on each side of my face. She helped me see I needed a mix of a-(blowout) bob-meets-a (straighten) length hair under. And, said my hair was thick so needed thinning. She went overboard with the thinning of hair! As I showered the musky smell of the wash, my past thick hair is now the hair of a 60yr old! ... I have such few strands on my head, shampooing makes me feel like a cancer patient. Im giving her one Star for caring and patience and reasonable price. The snips at the end reassured me she knew I wasn't happy. and a blow out unnecessarily too hot, did have an attempt at waves after being presiente I asked for them before cutting , but I got curls of a 50's Farrah look. Wonderful experience from start to finish! Zee is the sweetest and most generous and upbeat hairdresser. I found her through Groupon -- and was a bit wary because normally they don't treat you well if you use a voucher. But Zee treated me like a VIP. She didn't charge me extra for anything nor try to upsell. In fact she was more generous than she needed to be-- and my hair turned out exactly I had hoped for. I never saw my hair look this healthy after getting highlights and a haircut. I got so many compliments from family, friends, and strangers. Seriously, random people stop me to compliment my hair which my husband finds amusing. Addis Hiwot is a great salon! I bought the group for a haircut, shampoo, and full highlight. Zee was able to fit me in easily, and was very nice on the phone. She explained everything to me when I was there. I went in wanting long layers, but luckily she informed me that it would be much shorter than I expected, and she didn't want me to be upset at the end in case she cut too much, which I appreciated! She also helped me choose which highlights I wanted from Pinterest, and recommended some based on my hair color. She did charge me extra because my hair is pretty long, so expect that going in! It makes sense because highlighting and shampooing takes forever for long hair. My hair ended up looking amazing at the end! I got the blond highlights I wanted, and it looked natural with my hair. I should mention that I'm not used to someone touching my hair. I used to cut it myself and just box dyed it myself too. I got too tired of that and just recently decided to start paying other people to do it. Zee was awesome! I walked in unprepared and had little idea as to what I wanted other than the length. Called her today to ask if I could walk in although it clearly says "appointment only" but Zee is nice enough to drop what she's doing and take me in.. She is great with men's short haircuts. I had a 2 on the side and scissor cut on the top and brought my son who had a more layered haircut. She educated us regarding the problem areas left from our last cut and what her strategy was to repair it over time. Her strategy worked and we will be back for our future haircuts. She is also friendly and great with kids haircuts. My son is seven years old and she was able to get him to calm down and stay relaxed during the haircut. Zee is great! She gave me the exact cut I needed and was super friendly and fast! I have really long, thick hair, and when I get my hair washed, cut, and styled at other places it usually takes about an hour and a half to two hours. Zee gave the the exact same quality of haircut as my usual hair place in about 40 minutes. I had a 12:00 appointment and was out at 12:45 with freshly washed, cut, and styled hair. She knows what she's doing and she does it fast. I got my first cut here through groupon, and I'm definitely going to be coming back next time I need a cut, with or without a groupon. read more

Ugh I really wanted to like this place. I read all the reviews before purchasing the Groupon and they were a majority all great so I went ahead and bought it. I had my appointment today and I was less than pleased. When I walked in at my exact appointment time, the stylist(I'm assuming was the owner??) was helping another customer. Come to find out, the customer had been late and she continued to start doing their hair until I arrived. I waited 15 minutes past my appointment time to finally get into the salon chair. Without even asking what I wanted to do with my hair or anything, she quickly began putting highlights and foil in my hair. She is one of the nicest hair dressers I have ever met, but I should've known that the fact that she didn't even ask what I wanted to do with my hair should've been a warning sign. She was honestly so sweet but I just didn't feel comfortable at the fact that she didn't even ask what I wanted with my hair, where I parted it, anything. I waited after they were put in and about 10 minutes later, she came back and said my hair looked good, all while the customer who had been late was letting her hair sit for more color. I'm somewhat new to getting highlights, which I told her about, this was my second time and honestly I didn't really know if my hair was ready to be taken out of the foil when she showed me. It looked blonde but not very blonde like the previous time I got highlights but I just agreed, not really knowing, and then went to get my hair washed. I have never had my hair washed so quickly at a salon in my life. Although she did a good job, I think I was done getting my hair washed in less than like 3 minutes. When I was done getting my hair washed, another customer walked in for her appointment which made the stylist speed up even more. She took me back to the salon chair and quickly ran a comb through my hair and then said "I don't think you need a haircut." WHAT! I paid for one!! The Groupon was good for partial highlights, wash, blow dry, haircut and style. She said she would thin it out which I was happy about but she knew right off the bat that I had a Groupon, so I was to get a hair cut. I wanted to cut more hair off but she made me kind of feel bad for wanting to get a haircut at that rate so I just said an inch off to get it over with. The haircut lasted tops, 2 minutes which stressed me out to no end as I have layers in my hair that I don't think are even there anymore after I specifically told her I wanted to keep them in. The haircut was way too quick and I don't think it was very well done. Right as she started blow drying my hair, the customer who had been late, had decided to come and tell her that she was ready to have her foils taken out. This made the stylist race to finish my hair even faster. She blow dried my hair so fast that half of it wasn't even dry when I left and my hair was half styled. One half looked good, the half that was still wet..not so much. I felt so uncomfortable honestly and not welcomed at this point since she was racing to get my appointment over with that I didn't say anything about it, tipped her and left. I really wanted to like this place. All the reviews made the salon sound like it was awesome and that the stylist would do a good job, but I guess I caught her on the wrong day. She was absolutely the nicest stylist I have ever been to, but I think that when customers arrive late to appointments, that they shouldn't be catered to first, especially when there is only one stylist on duty. I definitely don't think I got my money's worth as the highlights weren't that great as she kind of raced to get them out, and that she went as fast as she could to get my hair washed and dried so she could tend to the next customer. She did her very best to make it seem like it wasn't this way, but it was pretty obvious that it was. Bless her for being a hard worker with lots of customers but I don't think I'll be back anytime soon. read more

It was cheap, but I deeply regret not going somewhere else and paying more. I didn't feel like the stylist really understood what I was asking for, and that became apparent at the end of my haircut. Unfortunately, my experience was quite similar to Katie L's. I arrived early for my appointment and got to wait for someone else who was supposedly late. If that was true, I should not have had to wait. The other person should wait. I too had a Groupon for just a haircut, style, and blow dry. She worked so fast that there was no way it was going to be a quality job. As others have mentioned, the owner is friendly but I left looking almost identical as to when I entered. There was absolutely no styling that took place. Just went in and asked for a trim in length and layers. I showed her an image of what I wanted and I completely got something else. But taking that aside my hair is uneven which she claim it was because of the thinning shear/scissors but if you split my hair in half i have one patch longer than the other. I told her and she couldn't understand me and honestly I did not trust her to try fix it. read more

Eight minutes late to an appointment at 5:30p.m. and I see a sign on the door saying sorry for the inconvenience, I'll be right back. I figure I'll wait a minute or two, maybe the stylist is in the bathroom. Two minutes later, I call the number on the door and the stylist answers, saying she had been waiting for me and called, leaving a voice message. The stylist said she was almost home, so I asked her if she could turn around. The stylist replied no, she was almost home, and later revealed home was in Alexandria. Mind you, to have been waiting for me past my appointment time, to have been "calling me," and leaving a voicemail, does not mean you can FLY down I-66 in rush hour traffic to be "nearly home." She refused to turn around when I pointed this out to her, which alright, I get, she's probably sitting in traffic, but the nerve of her to say she had been calling me and to be almost home, EIGHT minutes into my appointment is ridiculous. read more
