Hair magic. Thank you Julie!!! :)
    Alida H.

Alright, I was pretty skeptical. I've let people do unforgivable things to my hair before and the turnout left my hair hating me so I had not done anything for a while. I booked an appointment with Julie at PR at partners with a million pictures in hand to give her an idea of what I wanted (OK, more like 7, but I probably looked at about a million online). I really wanted to go for a light ash brown balayage. I had a bad experience at an unnamed salon in Ashburn months before so I was legitimately nervous. Julie greeted me with a friendly smile and showed me the way to her chair. I sat down and gave her all of the details about what I wanted (perhaps too much detail but I didn't want to risk anything this time around). She was confident, friendly, really listened to what I wanted and even calmed my nerves. She was so patient with my hair, especially since she had to lift the color since I had dyed it back to a dark brown after my previous experience at the other salon 5 months before. The outcome that she had left me with was magical (check out the attached picture!). I was so amazed at the hard work she had put in, and was thrilled that she was able to do it! She made my hair beautiful and got me what I had asked for. I was so happy with the outcome. I would definitely recommend Julie to all of my friends! She is also great a cutting, and did a great job when she updated my layers and trimmed my bangs to complete my new look. I had a great experience with her and PR at partners in McLean. :)

First of all, they have a new location, so Yelp should really get around to updating their address (especially since the PR at Partners sign is still up at the closed Lowell street location). I'm a salon monogamist, but after getting the same cut and perm from the same hair designer at a different salon for years, I felt my regular stylist was getting a bit complacent with my signature wave and length and I needed someone to take a fresh look at my hair. Enter Richard. I was asked to fill out a detailed questionnaire about how I wear my hair and my lifestyle, which at times seemed a bit embarrassingly exposing (Job? Awaiting employment...Do you work out? No...How often do you wash your hair? Depends on whether I have anything to do that day), but I appreciated that they took those things into consideration. I further appreciated that Richard actually took the time to look over the details and sit down to talk with me about exactly what I wanted. It's a small detail, but the *sitting down* part helped in making me feel comfortable enough to discuss my concerns and habits without feeling rushed. I explained that I wanted to wean myself off of the perms, but didn't actually know how straight or wavy my natural hair was, as I've been getting perms for the last ten years. I liked that he worked with what wave I had left from my last perm--after some slight layering that didn't leave the ends of my hair looking wispy and overly-trendy, I now somehow have waves that look bouncier despite my out-going perm. He taught me how to get rid of the hump in my bangs that keep forming an arch instead of brushing across my forehead. Many a designer has tried to teach me this technique, but whatever Richard did with my hair, this is the first time that I'm able to maintain my bangs just the way I want them weeks after my cut. We took it easy for my first cut and agreed that we would have to keep experimenting as my perm continued to wear out--hooray for long-term outlooks instead of trying to achieve an end result on the first go to prove revolutionary prowess. Richard has earned my trust with my first visit. Being somewhat a-social, I appreciated that Richard was very friendly but not overly-chatty. Building a relationship takes time, and as any girl who cares about her hair will tell you, your relationship with your stylist is one of the most important that you'll ever form. Thank you, Richard. You had me at "I hate it when customers come in and say 'it's JUST hair--it's NOT." I couldn't agree more.

For context the stylist I've been to for years is based in Baltimore and with how traffic can get I can't justify spending 40% of my saturday going to Baltimore to get my hair done. So I began the search looking for a new hairstyle salon. Tried Alexandria, Springfield, even Fairfax. But none have provided what I need and certainly not justifiable of the price it commanded. So I tried HairSocial because I found it on Google and I liked I can book online. My hair appointment consists of the following: Wash, Blow Dry, and an undercut. Sometimes I'll get it flat-ironed depending on the occasion. So I booked 4 days in advance and when I arrived for my appointment I had to wait 20 mins after my actual time (for context it was a Sunday afternoon and no one else was in the shop except for one customer). When I was seated I was only given a haircut and nothing else despite asking for a hair wash and a blowout. Considering I had to put a downpayment online to book the appointment I naturally felt bamboozled. They offered to do what I originally asked but they said I had to wait an hour. I didn't have time as I had a family dinner I had to attend so I decided to go home and wash my own hair. Before I left, the front desk offered to refund me on my card and then said no and could only offer me a credit. The credit was tied to my account yet the credit isn't available when you book online you can only access the credit if you call to set up an appointment. Extremely disappointed but the stylist did a great job with my haircut. I'm just disappointed that I didn't get what I paid for at a reasonable time. Thankfully the management of the loc in Tysons Corner set things right and as a result despite this location being closer to me I go out of my way to visit the HairSocial in Tyson's Corner (that review will be coming shortly).

And Walter is also amazing & they were super friendly. I had a great time getting my hair done. I have black hair and wanted to lighten my hair & color ("rose gold" to be exact with a bit more pink tint to it). Because my hair is very dark, to get it really light it would've taken another session on another day but Daniel did his best to lighten it as much as possible and gave it a beautiful rose gold color to my hair. And turned out so pretty!! Daniel will give you his honest opinion and explain to you why it will work or why it will not work. And he will give hundred and ten percent to make you look glamorous. Daniel's demeaner was completely short and unwelcoming the entire time. I arrived for my consultation at 6pm to the building doors being locked, and Daniel acted as if it was my fault/I was severely inconveniencing him for coming down to open them for me. I would've happily came earlier if I knew/was notified of that. When I entered the salon, it was just messy and looked gross to be in. The decor is weird and there was a door that said "Tattoo" right in the sitting area? Daniel rushed around without bothering to acknowledge my presense. His assistant/other guy in the salon was so nice and outgoing, but otherwise it was a total cold shoulder and I felt burdensome to him to be there. I will give Daniel credit that he is knowledgable in his craft and he gave feedback based on what I was discussing with him. However, the lack of "salon side manner" will not have me coming again, and I cancelled my appointment.
