For context the stylist I've been to for years is based in Baltimore and with how traffic can get I can't justify spending 40% of my saturday going to Baltimore to get my hair done. So I began the search looking for a new hairstyle salon. Tried Alexandria, Springfield, even Fairfax. But none have provided what I need and certainly not justifiable of the price it commanded. So I tried HairSocial because I found it on Google and I liked I can book online. My hair appointment consists of the following: Wash, Blow Dry, and an undercut. Sometimes I'll get it flat-ironed depending on the occasion. So I booked 4 days in advance and when I arrived for my appointment I had to wait 20 mins after my actual time (for context it was a Sunday afternoon and no one else was in the shop except for one customer). When I was seated I was only given a haircut and nothing else despite asking for a hair wash and a blowout. Considering I had to put a downpayment online to book the appointment I naturally felt bamboozled. They offered to do what I originally asked but they said I had to wait an hour. I didn't have time as I had a family dinner I had to attend so I decided to go home and wash my own hair. Before I left, the front desk offered to refund me on my card and then said no and could only offer me a credit. The credit was tied to my account yet the credit isn't available when you book online you can only access the credit if you call to set up an appointment. Extremely disappointed but the stylist did a great job with my haircut. I'm just disappointed that I didn't get what I paid for at a reasonable time. Thankfully the management of the loc in Tysons Corner set things right and as a result despite this location being closer to me I go out of my way to visit the HairSocial in Tyson's Corner (that review will be coming shortly).

I only ever do simple cuts, nothing fancy. My haircut, done by Anderson (a level 3 stylist), is objectively good. The skill was there. But it's definitely shorter than I wanted it. Went in for a lob, came out with an asymmetrical bob...Honestly I was panicking while he was drying it because it was starting to look like Lord Farquaad from Shrek. I asked if he could style it like in the reference pictures I showed (simple waves, to reduce Farquaad-ness). He tried to do it with the brush/dryer, which obviously wasn't working, and didn't want to use a flatiron. So I just suffered through scalding heat on my scalp and hair pulling. I got told I don't have curly hair. I got told I don't have frizzy hair. I, in fact, have both of those. Some other minor things: 1. When I got home I had some hair that was noticeably longer than the rest, like it never got cut. So...I had to do it. Just a few strands, but normally stylists check for that when your hair is dry. 2. I almost never use heat on my hair, so I asked for recs and mentioned a specific brand doesn't work for me. He immediately said he loves that brand. I said yeah...but it doesn't work for me. Anything else? "Any salon brand." Cool. Not helpful. 3. Asked for something at the end to tame the pieces that were sticking out (again, I have frizzy hair). He looked...confused? Smoothing as a last step has been standard at every other place I've been to. There is nothing in the whole salon like that? Also, my introvert-self just wants to go somewhere where I don't have to be engaged in conversation the whole time. Anyway. Won't go back, my hunt continues.

I specifically explained that I wanted to refresh my existing highlights and add lowlights because I wanted my overall color to be darker and more dimensional. I was told lowlights would be added. The end result does look nice, but it is not what I asked for. Instead of lowlights, a toner was used, which actually made my hair lighter rather than darker. I was also charged $285, substantially more than the advertised $169 special. Because the result wasn't what I requested, correcting the color will require another service and additional expense. I reached out to the salon owner directly to explain my concerns and give them an opportunity to address the situation before leaving a review, but I never received a response. I understand that hair color can sometimes have unexpected results, and I would have been very open to working with the salon to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, the combination of paying significantly more than expected, not receiving the color service I had specifically requested, and receiving no response when I reached out has left me disappointed. I'm sharing this review simply so prospective clients know what my experience was like. I have added pictures of the color and tones I requested verses what I got.

She reached out to me via DM and offered to help me with my hair-mergency. I previously went to a salon in Falls Church where my hair was cut unevenly(one side longer than the other/thinner than the other), severely thinned out at the bottom and given choppy "layers"(if you could even call them that. Initially I wasn't able to tell walking out of the salon due to the way the stylist had blew out my hair - it was only when I washed it for the first time that I noticed it. I was too embarrassed to even take photos of my hair and tried to hide it the best I could by curling it again for work. Julie did an amazing job saving what she could of my hair. She evened out the bottom as best as it could be (there is still some thinness/patchiness just due to the previous stylist) but I couldn't be more grateful for her time and work. If you're ever in need of a great service, I highly recommend seeing Julie and taking advantage of her 20+ years of knowledge/experience.

Ok Erin you are a life saver. I am naturally a brunet decided to dye my hair red on my own then proceeded to bleach it blond. Wow I had orange hair literally and work in a hospital I called several places to help no one would even look at my hair till next week and even then they said they would have to take at least four to five inches off my hair. I called Erin she happened to have a cancelation was amazing even remembered from the last time I saw her over a year ago that I didn't like a lot of length cut off. Stayed late to be able to get everything done to my hair while also making sure anything she did didn't hurt it further. Let me tell you I absolutely love it we went back to brown with a hint of burgundy in it and my hair looks healthier then before I bleached it twice in one day. The first time visiting this location. Walked in with no appointment. Jessie (Designer) took me right in for a wash and cut. The wash was amazing with the scalp massage. She understood what I wanted and proceeded to cut. I had long hair in the back which I wanted to keep but the long hair on the sides had to go but blend in with the back. When she was finished, WOW it looked good. Just the way I was expending it to look. What I did like most, Jessie never tried to talk me into buying products I didn't need like most hair cutting facilities. Yes, I will be back to see Jessie again in the future. She finished the work by basically doing nothing to my hair. The contrast on my from the perevious color was very visible and the looks worst then before. Then I asked for fixing it they said they will charge me all over for a fix up. I said no I am not paying anything else since I paid $220 already. They refused to fix it or refund anything. I decided to get it cut by anyone, and since I had some issues I wanted addressed, I let the hairstylist have some fun with my hair. Chrissy was super helpful and helped me manage this really annoying hair curl/ cowlick in my bangs that developed, which was a lifesaver! She also gave me some tips and tricks on how to manage my bangs so it wouldn't happen again, and she also chopped off my hair to the length I desired and added extra layers. My hair looked so much healthier than before too! The staff were also helping each other out and I saw that they were really friendly with each other, asking each other for advice, borrowing things, and collaborating with one another on managing walk-in clients/ stylists not being available to help with a rush of clients. It's also kept super clean and there's a nice waiting area up front too. The receptionist is also super nice. I also like that they have free bang trims, so I will definitely take advantage of this! Unfortunately, he thinned out so much that now I have tons of short, frizzy pieces sticking out everywhere. Again, nothing like the photo I showed. It will take years to grow my hair out to fix this. On top of that, he didn't check my face before sending me out the door. I left the salon with tiny shredded hairs stuck all over my face, like I had just walked through a hair storm. I told him explicitly what I wanted, but the haircut I received was completely different. I went in for regular bangs and long layers and left with super long curtain bangs and thinned-out hair.

It was not only embarrassing to me around other customers but it was very unprofessional and shows that they are unorganized with their archaic booking system which is just hand writing their appointments on paper rather than putting it in a computer system. This salon not only has a history of double booking customers in the same slot, but I will 100% guarantee that you will wait at least 30 minutes when you arrive on time for your appointment. So unless you are free that entire day, you will be running late always. I only come in once a year for a hair appointment as a treat to myself and today was honestly VERY disappointing and a waste of my time off my busy work schedule.

I came in with very limited photos and extremely grown out color. Had a wonderful experience and excellent grow out. Typically I get my hair colored at best one a year.
