I appreciate the steps that roosters has taken to keep people safe during these crazy times. What I don't appreciate is them charging $39 for a haircut and not offering all of the services. I completely understand the current situation, but if you're not going to offer all of the services from the club cut; 1. You should make note of that on your website and prior to the cut. 2. Not charge $39 dollars for just the haircut. When I asked the guy checking me out, he said because of Covid we are charging a flat rate. I'm a pretty basic guy when it comes to haircuts: short on the top, shorter on the sides, and that's about it. A couple unfortunate experiences at Hair Cuttery, including a nasty case of razor burn on the back of my neck from an overly vigorous stylist led me to look for other options in the areas. I had a good experience at Floyd's 99 in Mosaic, but they were full and I was desperate, so I figured I'd give Roosters a try. Rooster's feels like an upscale joint, and apparently it is. The haircut that I got was definitely above average, and the stylist was good at his job (not that I really tested him, see my lead sentence). That said, apparently even the most basic haircut is $45, which is way above what I'm willing to pay for a basic high and tight. If I wanted a more difficult cut I'd give Rooster's another shot since they seem pretty talented, but if you're looking for just a basic cut you may want to consider something with a commensurataly basic price. read more

I am new to NOVA and I wanted a haircut that I would be satisfied with. Since the barbershop is close to where I live I decided to give them a try. When I went inside I asked for a military haircut, they didn't say yes or no, but they'd make it happened. A barber name Gina took me in since her appointment at that time didn't show up. Gina is very friendly, understanding and gave me a good haircut. She made me feel welcome in the area and had an fantastic customer service. I would definitely see her again, but a blonde male (only blonde male in the barber shop) went to her and asked her how much time she has left doing my haircut. That right there caused my haircut to be bad because he rushed her. You can't rush quality. Also, the blonde male didn't asked the other barbers except her. I wonder why. Would I recommend this barbershop to anyone else? Probably not because of my experience with the blonde male. Would I get a haircut by Gina again? Definitely. The 4 stars are for getting an exceptional service from Gina. PROS: Cleanliness, friendly staff and great location. I went in for a hair trim, beard trim, and neck shave on Fathers Day. The hair trim with electric clippers was fine. I started to get nervous when she started trimming my beard with an electric trimmer without any hot towel or product first. Then she went on to shave my neck with an electric trimmer without any product or even an ounce of moisture! It was torture! My neck is completely shredded and still hurts. Don't go here. read more

If I could give this salon no stars, I would do that. My eighteen year old son just came home with the worst haircut he's ever had and is so unhappy. He showed the stylist- Heiu a picture of himself and described exactly what he wanted. He came out with shaved sides and nape and terribly uneven layers. My son hardly recognizes himself and is beyond angry. When he asked why he did not cut his hair like the picture the response was "my bad". Well, ok then. To say the least I am not a fan. When they first opened they sent a coupon in the mail to my condo to promote their opening. Since I got the coupon I thought I would give it a try. That's all we'll and good, but when it's time to pay the bill and tip be prepared to pay $40+. I felt like it was highway robbery. Unless you have money to burn take yourself next door to The Haircuttery and you'll pay half the cost and get just as good if not better haircut. Not only did he see the picture and say that he understood, he decided to take it a complete different direction and shave my damn head when I wanted a slight trim of pretty long hair. He is dense as hell, then to give a half-assed apology is crazy. Never let this man touch your hair. Not the first time this has happened here, but the worst time. I went to go to roosters to get my first hair cut in a very long time because I was scared to go and get all my hair cut very short when I want it to be pretty long. I went to roosters thinking they were a good place to go to and they wouldn't cut all my hair off, but sadly they did worse than the places I normally go to. There are better, cheaper places for a good men's haircut. If you need a quick, convenient place, this will do. But you can get a better haircut for less money almost anywhere else. A typical men's cut is $40. That's what I have paid for service in much nicer salons in Dupont Circle. This place a slightly dressed up barber shop, not an upscale salon. Sure, it's by the Metro, but I don't know if that location alone justifies the price. Floyd's 99, in nearby Mosaic, charges $24 for a better haircut in a nicer atmosphere. You should go to Floyd's instead. I came here once to give this place a shot - it's right at the Dunn Loring Metro. I walked in without an appointment, which seemed fine because it was empty here. My barber basically ignored my relatively thoughtful suggestions on how my hair should be cut and proceeded to use a #3 clipper for most of the time, with a little bit of scissor work on top. The cut was significantly shorter than I wanted, I have to say. All in all, he spent maybe 15 minutes on me, though there were no other clients waiting. I get that your mileage may vary at a given place based on who you get - clearly, my guy was not their top stylist. Or maybe he was checked out that day. When I came up to pay, I put the cut on a credit card but I asked the stylist to break a $20 for me (obviously for a tip). I always figured that stylists appreciate a cash tip versus putting it on a card. He did so, but gave me two $10 bills, basically daring me to either give him $10 or nothing. I didn't say anything at the time, though I probably should have. OK, buddy, you win. I gave him the $10 tip, on an already overpriced $40 cut, and figured congratulations, you got a couple extra bucks today and you won't get any more business from me. Well played, guy who didn't give me a particularly good haircut. Save yourself some money and go to the popular-for-a-reason Floyd's 99. You will get a better haircut in a nicer environment. Or if you feel like you need to spend $40 on a haircut, go to a nicer salon downtown. Sorry, Rooster's is a bust. read more

I asked for a little off the top and ended up loosing 6 months of growth. I now look like a cop from a cheap 50's cop show. I have no clue what he was trying to do with the blow dryer at the end but I left there paying 30 bucks to feel bad about how I look. But now, I've found Roosters where you certainly get the detail, attention, and cut for the right price. I've been with a few of the different stylists, but I want to commend both Ying and Hieu for their outstanding service and skill. It may be pricier than one of your run-of-the-mill barbershops, but you get what you pay for and much more in return. I've been to several barbers and hairy cutteries of sorts in the Fairfax area over the years and I find myself with the same issue every single time (yes even everyone's beloved Floyd's): I'm expected to direct the hair cut, as if I know what's good for me. I'm not a professional. So when I'm asked all these questions about how I want it, I'm really just guessing. How often do you order a pizza and they ask you how long you want it in the oven? For me, I want to describe the look and style I'm going for, maybe present a picture and then have the barber take it from there. Be honest with me, tell me my hairline doesn't work with the style I want. Suggest other ideas instead, have input. Everywhere I go, they ask, "how short? ...K." And just do it, regardless if it's in my best interest. I need the professional eye to tell ME what I need. Now to the point, I visited Rooster's a month ago for the first time after yet another bad experience with Floyd's. Here I found what I was looking for. Hamadi cut my hair and it's one of the best cuts I've gotten. He asked what I was going for. He offered suggestions and explained things he was doing and what we could do on future cuts, etc. I appreciated these things and it's the reason I came back. I felt this place is invested in me and they really care. Fast forward to this month, I went in the other day and asked for a haircut, that I ultimately had trouble styling because of the length. It was new for me and was really my call to leave the top too long to style easily. I went back and saw Hamadi, expecting to pay full price for essentially another haircut, but he was more than happy to help me out. It's something that could happen to anybody. I know I'm not alone having gotten bad haircuts before and feel totally embarrassed walking in again to have it fixed. But I didn't feel that way here. I felt welcomed. He fixed my hair and now they have a loyal customer who's writing this long winded review on yelp. So if you want to feel like the person cutting your hair is invested in how good you look and not just trying to get you out the door, go to Roosters. read more

I have had hair cuts and shaves at many different types of places through the years. I have gone to salons. I have gone to high end men's barbershops. Finding a place that is in-between the high end shop and the low end corner hair cutting place seems to be getting harder and harder to do. I finally found a place that fits that bill. Roosters in Dunn Loring is a great place to get you hair cut. The decor has a quality feel to it and a very welcoming staff. There are no gimmicks here or loud blaring music. I have gotten my hair cut there several times. The quality has been consistent every time. There process includes a hot towel treatment and a straight razor neck shave. I have also tried their face shave and men's facial. All were done very well. Getting a good straight razor face shave is hard to find these days. Saderica is who I use. Overall I feel like I get a lot of extra's at Roosters that I don't get at cheaper places and even at some high end salons. read more

Andrea is the best! I've gone in several times for different events. I'm an actor part time and she helps me style my hair after the cut to look the parts for auditions or opening night. She knows where all my little Curls are in the back of head and how to cut them right. Side plus: she's funny and has great stories to tell to pass the time. It's an expensive cut but you get a free touch up. That's the first place I know that does this. Short hair grows back fast on your neck. I save money this way. read more

Let me start with the negatives of Roosters before I go into my praise. The only two negative things I have to say is the price is a bit high ($80 for a shave and a haircut) and my shave was worse than what I would do at home myself. I gave the shave a shot but I would not get another one there as the price is outrageous for the equally terrible shave I received. With the negatives out of they way the Dunn Loring Location as it is new construction is clean and bright. The moment you walk in through the door you feel comfortable with a beverage offered to you and friendly staff. The wood aesthetics give the place an older more gentlemanly feel, throw in a couple cigars and some male staffers and I would actually call this place a barber shop for men. The lady who cut my hair was very nice and did a great job. I received what I asked and with the added bonus of good conversation along with a scalp, shoulder, facial, and neck massage (this is where having an all male staff might be out of place) I left Roosters feeling very relaxed and stress free from normal life. I would and probably will come back for my next haircut but I will just keep it at the haircut. Yes Roosters is a better more spendy option from your Great Clips Special and that is the way I like it. read more

I needed a beard trim for a job interview and saw that a Roosters had opened up across the street so I figured I'd it a go. Awesome experience, you can just relax as they work their magic, the hot towel treatment is amazing! The staff was very nice and polite, once I got in the chair they asked me if I wanted a water and made sure I was as comfortable as can be. I went a few weeks ago cause I was in a jam and needed a haircut. Haircut was ok. Today I arrived back in Merrifield about 4:30 from going out of town for the weekend and saw on their webpage that they were open until 6. I called and got no answer. I decided to walk up as I am only a few minutes away. When I got there there was one barber working on a customer and he said he was busy until closing. I asked him if that is why he didn't answer the phone. He said, yes he was very busy as the other girl had left early and left him alone. I told him that it was no excuse for not answering the phone. He said he was sorry but that he was very busy and that is why he didn't answer the phone. I won't be going back there again. When hair cuttery opens up next door I think they will put Roosters out of business. read more

I got a shave and a haircut yesterday at Roosters from JooAe. She did an awesome job on both! She was very helpful with choosing a hairstyle that looks great on me and then cutting it perfectly. The shave was a real treat, about a half hour long with face and head massage and old school style with hot towels. Very relaxing and refreshing . I'll definitely recommend Roosters to my friends. Got a great hair cut here for my upcoming wedding from Shanelle. There was only one other person there when I was getting my hair cut and I noticed he got a great hair cut too. So it seems like they have great barbers. I really liked the place because the barber really listened to what style I wanted and added in a few extra tips that seem to have worked. She also used this great smelling shampoo from what looked like a whiskey bottle on my hair. I usually just run into a Hair Cuttery because it's cheap but didn't want to risk a bad hair cut for my wedding. This place is a little pricey but it's worth it because the products they use are a lot better, I got a much better hair cut, and really felt pampered. If you're debating about trying this place I would definitely recommend them. If the price bothers you then at least try them for a special occasion. read more

Got a shave and a haircut the other day from Aladine. He did an excellent job, patiently cutting my hair. Moreover, he had no problem with me asking for multiple small changes, and that is always appreciated. The shaves here are awesome! They do it old school here with hot towels and some type of oil that makes it a very smooth shave. I highly recommend this place thanks to Aladine. On recommendation I went to Roosters and made an appointment with Drew. I've never had a haircut that looked remotely like what I was asking for. He talked me through the entire cut, using both clippers and scissors, which is not anything that I'm used too! He was very knowledgeable about both hair and the products he used to style my hair after the cut. My haircut has received many compliments which is also something I have not experienced before. I can't say enough about this place or the staff and experience. The price is a little more than I've paid for a haircut in the past, but as Drew said, "with all things, you get what you pay for and often you pay for what you get."
