I purchased a Groupon for balayage highlights at Salon Nuvida, and I love the results! Annie was my stylist and she was very nice. She took her time with my hair and didn't rush though it, and she is also a very talented hair dresser with 20 years of experience! Annie was also nice enough to take pictures of my hair and text them to me. Salon Nuvida itself is nice and clean. They offered me coffee (the instant kind but not bad), water, and tea, and also have wifi (but it wasn't working too well while I was there). Also, make sure you ask them before you buy a Groupon. They will match the price, and don't get as much back through Groupon. I would definitely recommend going here for balayage or any other service (they do Keratin too!). This salon is a gem! Ms. Sunny is an exceptional hair stylist. She's not fluent in English but if you bring her pictures of what you want, she gets it done. She will offer (gently) her opinion - if she thinks the style will be difficult to achieve with your hair texture, if she thinks it doesn't suit your face shape. But of course she will do whatever you ask! I brought my 16yo daughter for a long-overdue haircut and while waiting, asked her the price for hair coloring or balayage. She surprised me by saying, "No, her hair is so damaged from the previous coloring, it will take at least a year for it to grow it out; please. do not get it colored until then!" She could have kept that opinion to herself and done the coloring job for a nice fee, but she didn't! She then made suggestions for the kind of shampoo and conditioners we should get to care for the damaged hair. Ms. Sunny takes her time and after the wash will make any adjustments she deems necessary. I confessed I never blow dry or style my hair but wanted a short cut, and she took that into account and gave me a cut that was both cute and low maintenance! I also brought in my 13yo son for a haircut and we both left happy (he's never happy about his barbershop cuts!) So happy we found her. read more

She didn't speak English but Google translate and google images worked well for us. My hair needed more time than others but she took her time and was so careful with it. I love the result! The haircut turned out really well, Sunny is not in rush and tries to u deter and her customer request. She did an amazing job. Haircut costs $45 based on length and it's totally worth. I told Chenny that she had to do it extra strong cause my hair doesn't hold curls well as I've gotten perms before and she did not listen. This review is for Cheeny, I've gotten my hair cut by her many times and it's only fair that I finally write a review. 1. This woman is a master with scissors like a surgeon is with scalpels. She has a crap load of them, all different kinds and ready on her belt to cut the style I want, this is art. Tools, people, tools are plenty here. 2. These hair cuts will last (bear with me here), you know how you'll get a haircut, walk out great and like a 2 weeks later it's a bit deformed and it continues to deform itself until you urgently need a haircut again? Not here- I'm not sure if it's the layers or what but as the hair starts to grow out, it still keeps its style - of course, not forever but I still take this as a major plus. 3. Detail. On top of the high level of skill that I much appreciate, Cheeny is very friendly and has always been very welcoming, she must have a killer memory because she continues to remember me even after I go through long periods of time without a haircut (my bad). Absolutely awful! Purchased a groupon first mistake. Full highlight, I added a hair cut and olaplex. I've never in my life had 2 people highlighting my hair at once. Annie had a customer walk in half way through my highlight, rushed to finish then handed me off to some other girl. The back of my hair is purely awful. Annie is incredibly talented, a true miracle worker. I came to her asking her help in repairing a year and half of home coloring. I had some pretty challenging coloring damage to my shoulder length hair. She spent an enormous amount of time removing the old built up color, identifying my natural color (one of the true mysteries of the universe) and painstakingly layering more natural color through bayalage. She used extreme care throughout, adding in a protein treatment, olaplex and extra conditioners. I walked out with hair that was not only stunning and gorgeous, but it also seems to be in *better* condition - despite the hours of treatment in her shop. I've been going to Chenny for many years for my haircuts (she worked at various salons in Annandale and then Fairfax), so when I heard she opened her own salon, I knew I needed to go. I have thick, straight asian hair that always looks weighed down, and she does a great job of layering my hair to make it more voluminous. I got my hair cut about a month ago, and it still looks great. My mom has also been going to Chenny for years to get her perm and colour done. She used to run a beauty school in Annandale where you could get a hair cut for less than 6 dollars by the students. A whole lot of nope. :( I arrived at the salon around 6pm on Thursday, doors locked, I called the number from my car and I told the lady that answered I was at the salon and she said she would call me back. Then called back saying the lady was waiting outside and she could do the cut, told her again I was there and a few minutes later a lady walked up. Apparently they had already closed, which would have been fine and I would have scheduled another time. Anyway We go inside and I explain I had a bad layering done and just wanted to see if she could blend it better, asked if I should wait bc I did NOT want to take any of the length. There was another girl with her doing the translating and told me yes and had me sit. Then asked if I wanted a wash and I said it was up to her if she needed it wet or dry to do the blend, she said she didn't need to wash. There seemed to be a lot of confusion over what I was asking for, I reiterated NOT to cut the length, NOT to add more layers just blend what was there if that was possible. Well she started cutting and kept cutting and snipping away so I told her that it was getting too short and again not to take any length off, if it couldn't be done without cutting I could come back. Once she finished, the cut was short, much more off then I asked (the cuttings were at LEAST 2 inches) but it is slightly better blended. NOW she tells me to go for a wash, and then she blow dries. Both ladies seemed very nice and I wanted to really like the cut but it's just too short. The service was ok although I would have preferred her tell me that she couldn't blend it without cutting because I would have opted to wait. The salon is Hair Cuttery quality, in a townhouse style office area, very basic products and equipment. Did not feel like being in a salon, it was like being in someone's garage. And just not worth $45. If it had been $20 cut I would feel differently but for $45 I expect a lot more quality. read more
