Here's how my most recent trip to this salon went! I came in a week prior for a consultation to see if someone would be able to do a stark blonde balayage for my hair and was immediately directed to Emma. I made it clear that I had black box dye in my hair a little over a year and a half ago. They said no worries. Cut to a couple days ago, I went in, showed the reference photo again (simple, very dark on top, very blonde on the bottom) and made sure to ask for the blonde to be higher up because I wanted more blonde but to still have dark roots. I explicitly stated to her, "I want it to look like I went fully blonde and it's grown out, but smoother." She nodded and acknowledged me so I know she heard it. I'm thinking she should do a test strand beforehand since I made it clear I had color before but what do I know. I'm not the stylist. I decide to let her do her thing. She got about a quarter of the way through my hair before I was told that the photo example was too old for me which ??? I don't care? Give me what I asked for. Do you think I don't look at my reference pics? I notice that she hasn't put a lot of my hair that should be in foils in them so I ask her about it and get told rather bluntly "don't worry about it". Okay, whatever, she's the "master hairstylist" right. I sit there for a while and eventually she comes back and visibly winces at my hair before moving me to the sink and doing another round of heavy bleach. She hasn't told me what she's doing, or if I want what she's doing to be done. Eventually they come back and she has her assistant rinse me before they begin to brush me out so they can tone me. When I look in the mirror I see stark blonde highlights all the way up to the root. I hate highlights. I was never asked about highlights. After about 20 minutes of her yanking at my scalp (I have actual sore spots all over my head now, though her assistant was lovely and very gentle) she finally slathers the toner in and I'm deciding to trust the process. The assistant washes my hair and I just want to get dried and get out of there so I sit down and she asks if I want layers (my hair is still wet so I don't know what color it is yet) I ask to skip it but she insists we do layers and curls because "it makes the color look so much better". End of haircut - there aren't layers. I'm just missing significantly more hair than I asked to be cut off. Oh also! I'm just as brunette as I went in, except now I have gross orange highlights (my least favorite color AND my least favorite dye job, she hit all the marks!) and I can't stop crying. When I went to the manager she called Emma over who tried to pin the blame on me repeatedly and then lied saying that I said something that I didn't say. When I objected (this was the first time I spoke during this conversation, my mom had been taking to them) she said, incredibly rudely, "well we have cameras". Yeah, pull up the cameras. Let's see you making me lose more hair from yanking on it than the bleach. When we were finally paying and wrapping up she went on about how expensive and top of the line their products were. Pro tip! You would make more money if you used your top of the line products to give your customers what they want. They offered to have me come back in after a few weeks for another lightening treatment but I really don't trust them not to just fry my hair off. If she had just done a test strand and asked if I wanted what she was about to do to me, I could've saved over $300. TLDR: I paid $300 for a blonde balayage, I left still brunette but with ugly orange highlights, bleach damage, and less hair than I've had in a while. Feel free to come here! I am not too particular with my hair-just a trim and a long layer touch up -and was pleased with the outcome. I visited on a weekday and had the salon to myself. It took as expected about an hour. Price point was also as expected between $60-70. I plan to return before the end of summer for another touchup. Please save your money and never enter this horrible place! Here's another complaint for one of the "top stylists" at this salon, Veda. I came in to the salon (2-24) to get a balayage. When I started the appointment with Veda, I was telling her what I wanted and she kept rudely checking her watch as if she didn't have a client right in front of her. My cousin and I showed her a picture of what I wanted. It is basic dark brown balayage. When I called to make an appointment, I was told that Veda is able to do them and that is why I made an appointment. The reference pictures I showed seemed to confuse her and she kept on asking me if I wanted blonde or if I wanted her hair, when the picture was clearly shown that it was a brown balayage. She then pointed out a another employee hair and asked if I wanted her hair which was completely blonde with blonder highlights. So, she kept confusing us and I just said to do something like the photo references i showed her. Which was again BROWN not blonde but brown. She zoomed into the photo very close to the slightest of blonde and and asked "this light color?" I was taken aback as brown was not a hard color to decipher. I even had to circle it for her. I had a feeling I should've left then because if someone seemed like they lacked intelligence and then were working on your hair.... When she removed the bleach from my hair, she was pulling it so hard that so much of my hair came out. She kept answering calls in front of us or taking these personal calls in a different room even when she was supposed to be taking care of my hair!! Come on!! The bleach was left on for far too long! Then finally when we saw the washed hair and it was just yellow stripes in the hair. (Here is the reference photo). Me and my cousin were so shocked. My cousin was trying to ask her to add brown like the reference picture and add more dimension. She was confused and kept looking at her watch as if she had somewhere to go during my scheduled appointment time. She kept asking what we wanted when we kept showing her the reference photos, she still couldn't comprehend what she was seeing in them. It was a balayage. Not blonde like her hair which she kept asking if wanted her hair. And finally she added brown dye to it by slathering all of it on to my hair, covering up the highlights. She did it so quickly and carelessly because she was in such a rush to go somewhere which was obvious from the start of my own appointment. At the end of my appointment, she said next time you go to a salon do not show them this picture because we didn't know what we were talking about. This is supposed to be a professional salon that told me Veda can do a balayage. I think she should've said that she couldn't do it or she did not have the time. I wouldn't have mind at all. Because it's okay if you do not know how to do it. What is not okay is that I wasted my time and money. Instead, I wasted $300 for my hair to look basically the same but with more damage. My hair was mostly virgin as well besides the very ends. I grew out my hair for a balayage just to go to a salon who lied to me. She did not even use any heat protectant on my hair when she was straightening my hair. Their response to my email was also absurd. 1) they've been asked about refunds before. A simple search in the reviews and you will find it. 2) as stated before, my hair was mostly virgin besides the ends. You could've added brown because I did not want blonde 3) family is definitely more important but if this is a professional setting, I think it's important to differentiate between work and family. read more

I had just moved into West Springfield and really wanted to find a local hair stylist instead of going all the way to Last Tangle in DC to get my hair colored. I was optimistic when I met Emma who recommended a strand test prior to my appointment. I had henna in my hair and it would be challenging to remove it and add a blond and red balayage. Emma did a great job overall, and I left the salon with a dramatic new look. Unfortunately, however, I had sticker shock when I went to pay for my service. I was charged TWICE as much as the estimate I received when I had the strand test done. Not 20 percent more. Not even 50 percent more. 100 percent more! I didn't feel good about this at all and contacted the salon days later about my concerns. They ended up refunding me some of the money. But I still paid 62.5 percent more than the estimate I had received. They didn't seem to grasp how problematic this was. How can I trust their estimates in the future? I really wanted this to be my go-to local salon. But alas the search for such a salon continues. read more

Love love love my new haircut! I had really long hair (all the way down my back) and had maybe 12+ inches chopped off. I regularly grow out and donate my hair, so I'm maybe getting my hair cut every other year. This was my second time at Sana's and Sue was fantastic! I felt very safe and that they took many covid precautions (took my temp at the door, each station is separated by a clear shower curtain, no more than 3 stylists working at a time, no walk-ins, etc.). Sue understood exactly the cut I wanted, what worked best for me, & worked quickly to make it happen. Sue only works Sunday & Monday, and the salon will send out your donated hair. I will likely come back and get my cut touched up or come in for a blowout. My husband loved my hair and said my face really lit up so much. Thank you so much, Sue!! read more

The entire Sasha team was so welcoming and pleasant- they made my 95-year old mom feel comfortable and safe from the very start. Nahid was able to turn Mom's stick-straight hair into a "do" that will be manageable for her for weeks to come. She took time to get to know my mom and what she wanted before she picked up her magic scissors.. I visited Sana's Hair Design for an eyebrow wax after seeing an ad on Yelp. I was happy to find that it is in a location that is convenient for me in Burke. Without the Yelp ad, I don't think I would have found this salon, as it sits pretty far back in the shopping center on Old Keene Mill Road with the Safeway, CVS, and Glory Days. Since this is the first time I have been there, I am not sure who the stylist was that waxed my eyebrows, but she did a nice job. Prices for this service ($12) were also reasonable. This was also my first time back in a salon since COVID-19 closures took place. I felt at ease going there, and the salon seemed spotless. Check in was quick, and the receptionist was nice. In addition to a temperature check, hand sanitizing, and wearing a cape from the salon, the business had also installed plastic curtain partitions between each stylist's station for additional protection. I look forward to continuing to go to Sana's to have my eyebrows done again in the future. read more

Vida styled my hair for wedding events two weekends in a row--the same hairstyle both times because I loved it so much the first time! My appointments were very early in the day both times due to my being involved in the setup process for both events, and the second time they even opened slightly early for me to come in so I could have my hair done by Vida again (absolutely above and beyond). I let Vida know I needed these styles to last, and last they did: Not a single hair out of place in two 16-hour days. Amazing work. 10/10 would recommend her for hair styling any day of the week! read more

After a horrible year in a depressive period I came to VA to visit my mother with end stage cancer. I had always taken care of myself but in the past year I had let myself go. My mother took one look at my neglected hair and told me to get it done. I had dark and grey roots with overgrown self inflicted brassy splotchy highlights and long damaged hair. I have to give 5 stars to the business, stylists SUZANNE & KIRSTEN, and reception/front counter Delane (sp?). First the good - SUZANNE 'saved' my hair the first time after another salon had an oops with a protein treatment and I had a broken hair mess and was really freaking out. She listens, then quickly gets to work, expertly turning 'mess' into great 'do. She wasn't available when I was way overdue for a cut, so Kirsten provided an awesome long, angled bob with layers and life was good. Both are very personable, highly experienced, and you can trust your hair to them. I 'accidentally' made an appt with Sue (thinking it was Suzanne) and when I realized my error I thought "well, 2 so far have been good, it's ok, I just need some layers, shouldn't be an issue." Well, it was an issue. It is no longer a long angled bob. It's choppy, uneven, and although there are some layers in back, there are none on the sides. Mental note: don't book with Sue. Called and spoke to Delane, she got me right in to see Suzanne (again, Suzanne to the rescue!) and Suzanne did her awesome thing, listened, cleaned up all the junk, put in perfect layers all over, and amazingly didn't take any more length off (other than clean-up.) SUZANNE saved the day, I LOVE my rescue style, even though I have to grow it all out again, at least I'm not embarrassed to go out in public... Thank you SUZANNE, KIRSTEN, DELANE and owner Jessy for running such a fine establishment. Not sure who took my call but she was nice and friendly when she answered the phone and was able to schedule me the same day. When I arrived, everyone was smiling and friendly. The lady at the front desk scheduled me with Suzanne and she was great!! She was super nice and accommodating and she would always confirm with me if it was okay before she made any cuts on my hair. I was in the area for another appointment last Saturday, and I needed just a trim. I am pretty disappointed. My ends are choppy and not even, granted I asked for long layers. I sent my friend a picture, she is a hair stylist and she said it doesn't look like what it should for a trim with long layers. I went home and had to cut a few strands myself that were not cut. I acknowledge I was 20 minutes late, but I called, to let them know I was running late and they said not a problem. However I would have just rescheduled or paid a cancellation fee if I knew Vida was double booked or just overbooked. She spent 10 minutes and cut my hair, and I have thick Indian hair. Now I have to wait till it grows out and I will go back to my usual stylist. read more

This gem of a salon has been hiding out in Burke for years. I always forget it's there because it's tucked away in the corner. You see Safeway and Glory Days and the little ones in between. Well I came here for the first time and got a hair cut from Sandy. What a great lady she is!!! She is full of conversation and hilarious. She cut my hair perfect and cleaned up my neck nicely. I had a simple man style hair cut with some trimmers and cutting down the tips. The front desk receptionist Marie is so super nice and very accommodating. The salon is clean, chick decor, smells nice inside and everyone was busy busy working on amazing hair cuts and colors. All the stylists looked great with their hair colors and all out fabulousness with their own styles they were rockin. I went to Sana's today for a desperately needed hair cut. My previous stylist from a different salon had left and did not leave forwarding information. It had been a year and a half or so since getting it cut. I was not sure who to trust- having been poorly treated due to my being overweight or poor hair cuts by previous people prior to my old stylist. So, I decided to call the place I knew from when I was a little girl. Sana had cut my hair when I was little - starting at 5 years old - and for many years. Though I know she was not there, I knew she would not hand her name and establishment over to someone who was not good. I was booked with Vida. Coming into Sana's you may notice it is not as fancy as some, but it is a salon with class! You feel welcomed and taken care of. Everyone is very nice and helpful from the receptionist, to the shampoo person, to the stylists. It is clean and the salon stylist chairs are comfortable seating for bigger sized people. Vida was very nice. She took the time to consult with me ahead of time - before my hair was washed- making sure she understood my desires and needs regarding my hair style/cut. The lady who shampooed my hair was very good and gentle - making sure the water was good. Vida made nice easy going conversation during the cut - she has a very pleasant personality! She made sure to ask things throughout - before cutting! "How about here" - she showed with her fingers in the hair. I was very appreciative! It made me feel relaxed and that I could trust her. She did a fantastic job on the cut, blow dry, and curling/styling of my hair! So much so - I asked her if she knew anyone who did eyebrows. She said she did.
