Just a bad haircut. The woman who cut my hair was rushing me as I was trying to get advice on how to position my bangs and layers. I told her to cut off half and inch ( I think she cut more but that's okay). What REALLY disappointed me was the bangs. I asked for angled, curtain bangs and walked out of the salon with my hair COMPLETELY uneven. Overall, she did an obviously rushed job and it wasn't cheap either. I needed an emergency hair appointment for the epic eff up I did on my own hair! Enclave was able to squeeze me in with short notice to see Torao. He was so quick and efficient and did not make me feel embarrassed for trying to do my own hair. He did such an amazing job and it was exactly what I wanted from the inspo pics I showed him. I found this salon from Yelp, searching "color correction" because I had seriously messed up my hair during quarantine. (My hair was damaged, highlighter orange, and a splotchy mess) I emailed them and I immediately received a response, and I was able to be fit in for an appointment the next day. I was really nervous, I had over bleached my hair and I was scared I would have to chop off a significant amount. Torao was very sweet, worked with me on options I could do with my very fragile hair. I didn't want to go darker, and Torao was super understanding. Let me tell you, I can feel the labor that went into my hair, lol because he had to correct my bleach mistakes, tone the orange, and then just get my hair to look normal again. I am amazed with the results. My hair is so soft, Torao has serious skills because my hair looks like I have cute highlights or a pretty balayage (which I was not expecting, I was expecting to leave with like a dark brown Bob or something) He was also very careful with my length. His assistant JT was very nice as well. She was super considerate and gentle with my hair. Just look at the pictures. They speak for themselves. Oh and if you're worried about going to a salon right now because of Covid-19 (reasonable) this place is great. I have been on a search for a good salon, that is also affordable and that the stylists are actually fun to talk to(who wants to sit in silence for 2+ hours??). It took awhile because of COVID but I was able to get in. I went and saw Stacy and although I was hesitant because I didn't have pictures and I always find hair hard to describe, Stacy walked through the consultation with me asking tons of questions to really get a better idea of what I wanted. She quickly get to work and the end result was PERFECTION. I had no idea that my hair could even get to the level that she brought it. 09.08 It's just what my hair needed. I was in the area for work and felt the urge to do something about my dry, lifeless cotton candy hair. My hair has always been at the bottom of the totem pole of priorities... after showers it goes up in a bun. So it's dry, brittle, has severe breakage from tight buns. It needed a major rehab. I called a few places before changing my mind and putting off going to a salon another time. Enclave was the one able to take me in after work. Came in super anxious, this was only the 3rd time I've seen a hair stylist since moving to Va 6 years ago. I've always gone home to San Diego to get my hair done but this time, I was desperate. I told Stacy my hair was in bad shape and needed lots of TLC. I've been trying to grow it long again so she suggested trimming the back and face shaping around the front. She also did a deep conditioning treatment that smelled so fruity. After 45 minutes, my hair looked and felt AMAZING! Bouncy, super soft and shiny. Best of all, I only paid 114 including a 30% tip. Torao is not just a hair stylist, he is truly an artist!!!... I came in a month prior to my wedding with a vision of long flowing hair that transitioned from black to blonde and he made my dream into a reality. I'm so in love with the color and the hair extensions!!.. I had my hair cut and colored, Torao picked out the shades for the extensions and I returned to have those put in and styled. I am beyond satisfied with their service! On top of that, it is the cleanest salon with plastic barrier between each chair, sanitizer for every person coming in, and the sweetest staff. I've had hair extensions in 2017 from a salon in Waldorf MD and they hurt so much but Torao reassured me that these are virtually pain free. He was not kidding, I didn't even feel them being installed and they naturally blended with my hair. if you are looking for a place to get quality work and consistency, this is not the place. If you ask for a specific thing to be done to your hair, don't expect it and if doesn't turn out correct, be prepared for them to not take accountability and blame you for their mistake with a confrontation. I requested for my hair to be low lighted and highlighted evenly. I came home with my grays still showing and leopard prints of brown and blonde spots. If you are looking for a peaceful place that has class and respect, this is not the place. They are very loud, obnoxious and speak obscenities. If you like to read a book while you get your hair done, it's impossible in this salon. The owner isn't pleasant to deal with, he doesn't appreciate his customers enough to as little as greet them. He doesn't try to make it right but instead puts his hair dressers to do the dirty work. The shampoo girls do not rinse all of the color and shampoo out of your hair, having long nails, ripping at your ears and don't even say hello. They use old brushes full of other people's hair and blow dry in high heat burning your scalp and causing breakage. I have asked them not to use that technique on my hair and they immediately get an attitude. This is definitely not a salon to bring your child to because of the inappropriate conversations that are held there. Besides the uncomfortable vibe, the work that they did on my hair was never consistent from one visit to the next. They have zero work ethic. I have been going to Salon Enclave since moving to this area in 2018 (long overdue for a review!). Taroa (the owner) is incredible and literally an artist when it comes to color and balayage. He takes the time to talk through the process to really understand the look you're going for. A few months ago, before the pandemic shut businesses down, I was so impressed at the attention and detail the salon put into keeping the area clean to keep customers safe. During my first hair appt. since COVID closings and places re-opening, I was super impressed at how the salon managed to implement the additional precautions without compromising comfort or friendliness. I always enjoy myself and the conversations had during my visits! I think a bit of normality is what we are all searching for and Taroa and his team made it happen- as always! Asked for a balayage retouch and hair cut, walked out with a one dimensional, heavy, flat all over blond look. See attached photo. Reached out to stylist to have it "corrected." Her recommendation was to add lowlights, which should create the dimension and multi tones I was expecting in the first place. Walked out with blotchy, unblended lowlights. You can see the lines where the low lights end. See attached picture. Paid $300, spent 8hrs of my time and damaged my hair . Learning techniques should not come at the clients expense, I'm not a mannequin head you can practice and play on and hope that it comes out right. You're unqualified to perform this kind of service and the owner should be accountable/knowledgeable for his stylists and their lack of abilities. I'm updating the review because Torao the owner got in touch with me immediately to remedy the situation. He refunded me my money no questions asked. She did a great job listening to me and making sure she understood what I was looking for, as well as communicating along the way to ensure I was comfortable with the direction she was going. it was my first time dyeing my hair, and I'm happy with both the cut and color! In addition to saying great things about Wendy (who for sure has a bright future), I wanted to take a moment to comment on the owner of the salon. The way he interacts with and coaches his staff is phenomenal. I witnessed him giving instruction to the emerging stylists on multiple occasions and he was thorough, ensured understanding, and supportive. You could tell that it was a great environment to work in, and he is really ensuring his entire team is giving great service. Lastly, their new space is really bright and welcoming. The first time I visited "Salon Enclave", I let some questionable behavior slide, just because I thought Torao, the owner, was maybe having a bad day, or I might have interpreted what he said and the way he said it in a wrongful manner. However, Torao has repeated the same condescending behavior with me the second time as well, so I'm NOT going to let it slide this time. Bottom line, behind his calm demeanor, is a very condescending person, who thinks talking down to others and acting as if he is more intelligent or more important than they are is smart. Torao, you're either condescending without even realizing it, or you do these things on purpose. Either way, you saw that you were loosing a customer and kept acting as if you didn't care. I hope you will find the peace you're looking for one day because it's pretty obvious that you're not at peace with yourself. Practicing humility will get you a long way, since condescension usually comes from a place of insecurity and fear of rejection. By monitoring your CHOICE of words and actions, you can become more aware of your condescending language and body language. And never assume that you can just talk to people in a belittling way, because you don't know who you might be talking to! This place is great!! I have come here for a long time now-- 5 or 6 years? I've referred people and gotten a ton of compliments on my hair. I always see Rebekah, who does like to educate people on their hair as she works her magic. But, as you can see, they have only great colorists/ stylists. I had a change in schedule and have now been seeing Sara since my first couple of visits, but I could not be any happier! She is great at what she does! I'm the worst at maintenance and I'm always changing my mind about what styles I like and somehow I always leave her chair completely happy. I really like that she is extremely honest about what processes my hair (which is still in recovery from prior damage) can and cannot take and recommends steps to take to get me to where I want to be. I called to set up and appointment for the following week, but they were able to squeeze me in the same day due to a cancellation. The reception staff was fantastic- she was friendly and super helpful while I toyed with my emotions at going to a new salon and coming in for a super drastic cut! I've been everywhere and had good haircuts and bad but after coming here I never wanted to step foot in any other salon! The staff is amazing!! Everyone is so funny and fun to talk to and it makes it a very warm, welcoming environment to be in which is fantastic especially when getting a haircut or color because that can sometimes be a nerve racking task. All the stylists are so talented, I've never seen someone leave this salon not looking like a million bucks, but I always get my hair done with Rebekah and she's never let me down!
