If this was my first visit to this location, I would give 1 star. However, I had been going regularly to get my hair braided with no issues until recently. I don't want to ignore the great appointments I had previously, so I'm giving 2 stars only because I'm unable to give 2.5. Approximately two weeks ago I scheduled an appointment with Iye on a Friday afternoon. I sent a picture from Pinterest with the braided style I wanted (as I usually did). When I arrived, she was behind, but that was fine. I'm pretty easy going as long as my schedule allows me to wait. The appointment was going fine until I got in the chair after getting a wash. I gave her my braiding hair and proceeded to answer emails and look at social media on my phone like I usually do. I had been to her enough times to trust that she was going to give me the style that I requested or something even better. The style I wanted was similar to a style she had done for me before so I had no worries. I even mentioned to her that I would need to schedule 2 more appointments for some upcoming events in hopes of us getting those on the books before I left. As I sat there, I realized something was off. It seemed like she was rushing with my braids. She was struggling with the pre-stretched hair and was pulling my head in the process. That wasn't normal. Then she verbally stated "I'm trying to leave early today" twice to her colleagues. At that point, I was concerned. It didn't seem to be an emergency that was requiring her to leave early. It seemed she had other plans. I began to wonder why she booked me at that time in the first place if she had other plans or needed to get out early. At that point, I looked up and got a glimpse of my finished hairstyle. I was not happy at all. The braids were crooked, the parts weren't done properly, and the size of my two braids didn't match. Normally at the end of my appointments, she would wrap me and put me under the dryer to ensure everything was good to go. This time, she took off my cape and said, "you'll need to wrap your hair when you leave" followed by "just text me the other appointments you need". I sat there stunned because I was unhappy with the finished product and I was being rushed out. Although I wasn't happy, I still paid and tipped knowing that I wouldn't be back. I went home then made an appointment with another salon for the next day. I was more upset by the experience I had than the wasted money. I'm a very loyal customer if I feel good about the services I'm receiving. Honestly, I would've preferred for her to either tell me she didn't have the time to do the style I wanted or reschedule me for another time. I want to reiterate that I had great appointments with her prior to this. She actually did a thorough job every other time. This may have been a one-off situation, but I can't risk that happening again. My time is just as important as my money and I need to have a stylist that will work to deliver a great style every time. If you decide to go to this stylist, just confirm that your preferred style can be accommodated during the appointment time that's given. read more

Angels Institute, LLC was previously Angels Salon. They're finally up on Yelp and I'll go ahead and describe my experiences. This is a salon for African American hair, therefore you will see mainly African American clientele. Fear not, there have been plenty of people of all races come into their shop because at the end of the day you want to step out of a salon feeling fresh. For starters, lets start with parking -- it can be a pain if you come during the weekday because there are other shops there so you may find yourself circling the parking lot for a bit. If you can't find a space there is a lot right next to it for overflow. DO NOT create your own parking space because your car WILL NOT be there when you get out. You will always be greeted in a friendly manner. I would suggest calling ahead if have never been to the salon before so you can get a consultation and speak with the Stylists. Cindy & Nasira own the business so it would probably behoove you to call them if it's your first time. They will help you figure out something that's best for your type of hair, the condition of your hair, and the texture. They'll do their best to accommodate you but please don't make any ridiculous statements or any asinine requests for your hair. I will probably look at you like you're an idiot and deep down you feel it too -- so please don't. I've had these ladies do my hair since I was a kid and they've seen my hair when it's truly glamorous and times where ...well, lets just say I needed help. I've had Cindy, Nasira, & Kalena do my hair and they've always helped me -- even when I've come in on short notice (as in calling them 2 minutes away saying heyyy im hereeee). They've also got some kick a** barbers if you're one of those men that can't cut their own hair. The prices here for your hair are EXTREMELY competitive -- as in, I haven't been to any other place where I've gotten this great of a deal and keeping your hair looking fly is NOT cheap! Overall, this is a great place if you are looking for a place to get your hair done and I know trying to find a place can be stressful but consider this one place you should go to. If you're new in the area - thank yelp, and of course me for recommending you. :-) This is also a great place for ladies to leave the kids at home (with or without their fathers (depending on your circumstance) or leave your fiance at home with the pets so they can spend some quality time together while YOU enjoy good conversation in a casual atmosphere. Kalena's shampoo girl as I later discovered put stabilizer in my hair which is a "no-no" I guess Kalena forgot to tell her shampoo girl that stabilizer does not work well in my relaxed hair. I bring my own detangling conditioner in because it had proven to work pretty good in the past and my hair does have a tendency to tangle easily. Long story short, the shampoo girl applied the stabilizer on my hair after she introduced the detangling conditioner. The shampoo girl spent 30 minutes trying to untangle my hair before Kalena finally came over to help. Kalena spent another 30 minutes yanking (detangling) my hair out. When I asked Kalena was I losing a lot of my hair, she replied "what do you want me to compare it too." I guess that was a very indirect "yes". Then she quickly piped up and said "medium". I had no idea that she had pulled so much of my hair out until I looked in the sink after she finally untangled my hair. I should have collected my hair and pursued other options but I wasn't thinking about options at the time because I was too upset. Kalena tried to blame it on me and said that my hair was so tangled because it hadn't been combed in weeks. My reply to her was, I haven't done anything differently than when I first started coming to you. The nairobi setting lotion that you use on m hair has mousse in it and hold my curls until I come in for another appointment so who combs hair that has mousse it. I don't and you don't either since you style my hair with your fingers after a wash and set. I have concluded that Kalena is not a researcher of products that best promote the healthy state and condition of all black hair types relative to her clients.. Caution if you have relaxed long hair that requires special attention, trust and believe, you won't get personalized attention from Kalena -- and please don't schedule an appointment on a Saturday. You will be in the salon much longer than you probably expect. Saturday's for me "wash and set" have taken up to 3 hours, easily. read more

I was very happy with my experience and the way she did my hair. My hair came out looking the best it's looked all year. I had a wonderful experience at this salon this past weekend. I had not been to a salon since March, so it was about time I received some hair therapy. I had an appointment with Tia and arrived TWO hours early and she saw me not too long after she got in, despite having another appointment as well. I appreciate her being able to accommodate me. I spent a long time in the salon (nearly four hours), but I feel like I can't be mad at that when I was so early lol. She was doing her best with all the clients she had. Anywho, she did a GREAT job on my hair. I don't always like my hair right after getting it done, but I was in love. If I can remember, I'll post a picture later. She trimmed my ends and had my hair looking a LOT better... she had no issue with dealing with natural and unprocessed hair. And that's a huge plus! I think I've found a hair salon to call home. Until now, other salons that I have come across specialized in hair braiding or extensions only. Neither were of any interest to me; my hair is relaxed. I was in need of a hair stylist that would maintain my hair and keep it healthy. I finally found my ANGEL!!! My appointment was with the owner, Cindi and she is FABULOUS!!!! It's no doubt that Cindi is a giant in this business and it shows! The salon is set up to accommodate it all! One side of the salon has stations for barbers, and the other side of the salon has stations for the stylist. The decor is electric, and the salon has a fun family-friendly atmosphere. The friendly staff members make you feel like you matter and I appreciate how they valued my time. Cindi has a solid rotation, and her assistant gives you a wash that feels AMAZING! I stepped out of Cindi's chair looking FABULOUS and feeling CONFIDENT!!! For the last two years I have been flying back and forth to my stylist back in Texas to get my hair done, but now that I have found Cindi that's a thing of the past! No. Just NO. I ran in for a quick wash and style and ended up having to redo my hair by the time I got home from the salon 15 minutes away. On a sunny day. I asked for a body wave style and ended up with country curls. The reason I'm giving the stylist two stars instead of one is because Marquis the stylist was very kind and tried really hard to correct the mess. But it was a mess nonetheless. It was a very simple hairstyle that I've had done other places with no problem. The only reason I ended up going there was because it was a last-minute service. If you're used to light styling with lots of body and low product, this is NOT the salon. They do not have the skills for that type of servicing. I have learned over the years that those techniques are gifts that only certain stylists possess. Other stylists tend to rely on heat instead of healthy techniques. read more

I've been getting my hair done by Ashley for the last three years, and for over a year she's done my hair at Angels Salon. I love that Ashely listens to me and allows me to have input into how my hair gets done (I wear my natural hair and in weaves). I really love that I don't have to wait very long when Ashley schedules me (note: I normally go on weekday mornings), which works for me because I hate when stylist schedule multiple people too close together. As there are few black salons in the area, if you're looking for someone who will work with your schedule and make you and your hair feel beautiful Ashely is your girl! As far as the salon is concerned, it's definitely nothing fancy, but what's there gets the job done. The font of the salon is a barber shop, so if you don't want to have your hair out looking a mess around men this may not be the place for you. But in my experience, the barbers are nice and keep things pretty tame. Overall, the only issue that I've had was with parking, which cannot be controlled by the salon owner. read more

I thought this salon would be a contender in the area, let me tell you I was very wrong. I made an appointment to meet with a stylist: she was even willing to accommodate me on her day off (little did I know- she moved all her appoinments to that same day). As usual, I arrived right after work- I was running 10 minutes late in which I called her and let her know. Surprisingly, she was cool with it..awesome, right?! Let me walk you through this ordeal: 1. I arrive to find her in the chair getting her hair braided for a weave! So I thought she'd stop to start my hair soon....okay...she was like my assistant is going to wash you. 2. He begins to wash my hair, I let him know that I am tendered headed. He Continues to scratch, stretch and pull on my hair as if it's not attached. 3. For the deep condition, he refuses to put me under the dryer and leaves me laying there with my neck hanging over the sink for 40 minutes. 4. He comes back (I'm dreading because my stylist with whom I made an appointment is not done getting her hair braided!!) He takes me to his chair and begins to comb my hair soaking wet. It's extremely painful to know he is breaking off my hair. #dontcombwethair 5. He, the assistant, begins the blow drying process. Once he has my hair detangled and semi dried-- he takes his fingers through my kitchen area as if I am a white girl with silky blond hair (there lies no experience with long black textured hair). At this point I tell him to stop- he's like "oh, I'm sorry hurting you." Lol. 6. The stylist still is not DONE! She's getting her weave sown in! (Yes, I should have left a long time ago) she tells him to start flat ironing my hair! ! This boy has no idea what the hell he is doing and now she wants him TO PRACTICE ON ME? No. I told him I'd wait for her- he was like oh no its okay I'll do it.. he starts to take strands of my hair and running the flat iron over and over-- getting absolutely NO WHERE. 7. FINALLY: her weave is done.. she comes over a ND finishes a lady before me--then rushes through my hair (all this could have been avoided if I had just done my own hair which I know how to do- it's just nice to treat yourself so I thought). I asked her to trim my hair - I'd been 8 weeks, she said no I didn't need it-- I did. She was rushing-- all the while I find out its her birthday the next day!!!! So she's trying to get cute and meet her girls! This woman takes a hot comb to my head and burns my forehead!!! All before thanksgiving weekend. Needless to say they played me. I am new to the area and still in need of an experienced stylist who schedules her clients and intends to meet with them during that time. Please save your money and go elsewhere. If I could I would rate them 0 beyond negative stars. They are terrible, totally sucked. Stay clear. read more

I went to Angels Salon after researching very long and hard for an appointment because I'm new to the area. I called about a month in advance and scheduled my it with Cindy (who happens to be the owner). I was quoted a price of $40 for a wash and set which was fine, but I anticipated paying more regardless. I arrived there and was told to take a seat. It seemed to be a really nice atmosphere. After waiting for a half hour, Cindy comes over and tells me that she wants someone else to do my hair and that she would do it just as well and faster. I figured she would place me in good hands. "Ice" comes to do my hair and I explain to her that I want a wash and set and that I want my hair to look very fluffy and lightweight. Long story short, I walked out of that office looking like a grease monkey. I had to come home and wash my hair again because it wsa filled with oil and product which I can't stand. What's the point of washing hair to get rid of oil and product just to put it back in? After all was said and done, I was asked to pay before I saw the finished product which ended up being $55. Luckily, I know how to wash and style my own hair. I will never go back there again. However, I will say I saw other stylists who happened to do amazing jobs with their clients. I'm unsure if I was treated this way because I was a new patron. NEVER AGAIN. read more

I have given this salon multiple chances (only because there are VERY limited black salons in this area) and I have to say that I have not been satisfied with my hair once. Not only was I not satisfied with my hair, but it is one of the most unprofessional salons I have ever been to. The sit under dryers do not get hot and the beauticians are too busy watching whatever is on the television rather than giving all of their attention to your hair.
