I was optimistic and looking forward to this haircut and full baylage but it didn't come out as expected. I went home and just convinced myself it was good but after a week I finally did my hair and discovered I had many chunks of uneven un-blended pieces. They charged me $340. The hairdresser also took advantage, put serum in my hair withholding that he would charge me $50. I never asked for it nor did he disclosed how much it would cost. I even tipped my hairstylist over 20% so a $400 haircut essentially. I messaged my hairdresser about this issue and he just told me to come in so he can take a look... I don't have time to drive 45 mins for someone to look at my hair. I would like someone to tell me they will fix it and it was their mistake. My intuition tells me it's not worth coming back. They accommodated a last-minute appointment during the holidays and were very efficient. The staff were welcoming and friendly and I liked their coffee/tea bar. Sam did a good job of taming my mane and the results lasted for several days. The price was higher than I expected or normally would pay but the results were evident. I went in for a blowout the day of my engagement party, and with an hour after my appointment, my hair was flat. I asked the stylist not to use heat on my hair other than the blow dryer. But she used a curling iron anyway. I cannot emphasize enough that this was not a blowout. I left thinking it was not what I asked for but looked nice enough for the event. But the curls fell out in less than an hour. I called several times within a week of the service; by day 7, I finally got ahold of a receptionist, and they had a 1-week policy for refunds, which feels convenient. I asked for a call back from a manager, and they never returned my call. The refund policy is not on their website. Their website advertises the blowout at $60+, and I was charged over $100. I could not be more disappointed by this experience. I ended up washing out my hair before my party and doing it myself. read more

Overall im a little dissapointed with the service and do not trust to come back. After doing my research on this salon and being new in the area, I had hope in JiJi the way she addressed my hair situation and me wanting a HOT RED, Ive done red over my hair before on BLACK and have gotten red on it more of a darkish brownish red, which ive seen happen before, no needing of bleach. She had told me I had to apply a toner to get rid of the red i had on already but she knew i did not want to go dark. She put a toner that made my hair dark like my roots and charged me $140 just for a toner, when it was just applied with a BOTTLE at the sink, and I was left uncomfortable where they wash your hair for about 15-20 minutes causing me neck pain. Not only that but my red was still visible and they still charged me $140. I asked her just for a trim on my dead ends which she rushed. I have some longer pieces than others and i also asked her to just even up my hair but still left it uneven. Which they charged me $100 for. When I made the appointment online it said color all over and haircut, starting at $200. Which to be fair I very much believe she barely cut any dead ends because I wanted the same length and my hair was pretty healthy and the toner DID NOT RESOLVE MY ISSUE Nor was it the right color (i believe they shouldve gave me some grace) , especially if they did it over the sink and not make a change at all, and in fact made my hair darker. I had told the girl at the receptionist desk " I saw online it was $200" she said " if you can pull it up I can do it" insinuating I was lying, which was disrespectful. At that time I could not find the proof, and she said haircuts start at $100, which is not mentioned on their prices. They should be more percise of that. As well as before the job is done they should let the client know what the job would cost. Over all, when she asked me what I wanted done, multiple times she said "its a long process" as if she did not want to do the job, mind you, there was nobody else there for her at the time I was there. In summary, I felt scammed, unhappy with my haircut and did not like the dark tone my hair had. I felt manipulated by the stylist to do what was more beneficial for her. My money was wasted and I did not leave happy from that place nor with a change. She added on to offer to come in for an additional toner for free, but that I had a week to do it, to go darker which is NOT what I want nor do I have time to do it another day. If you are looking for a real blowout, go see Gokhan at Hair Play Salon! I've been to PLENTY of salons in the DMV over the past decade and nothing compares to Gokhan's work. He is meticulous, straight to the point, and truly invested in hair care. I have super curly, unruly hair and Gokhan is able to leave it silky straight to the point there is no need for a flat iron. Aside from blowouts, I've also done other hair treatments and styles with him (including haircuts) and he is just phenomenal. Gokhan is legit the only stylist I see consistently without an ounce of hesitation. This is the same spot were Illusions Hair Salon used to be and it's super easy to get to. There are several parking lots nearby so, even though it's a popular area, you can find a spot pretty quickly. Prices are affordable and comparable to the area. Hair Play was very accomodating and they took me and I met SAM!! Sam was a magician he was able to restore my hair from this brassy orange to this beautiful ashy blonde that I always wanted. He was dilgentant and very kind. I had a change of heart once I tried on a outfit that hair was blending into I called hair play a few hours later and they accomodated me and Sam retouched up my hair without any complaints. Booked it and was unable to attend due to a business trip. Due to travel back, I requested a change to afternoon or next day but was told that i had cancelled twice- Which was inaccurate. I called 24 hours prior to my first appointment to change the date, second time was during the same trip as my flight delayed me a day- I requested a change, again not a cancellation. Lazy, Dishonest (Including Impersonating a Manager), Clueless I had an appointment to get my haircut for my wedding. I call in to get some details and surprise, my stylist was gone. I ask for the receptionist for the spelling of the stylist's name and without using any of her problem solving skills, tells me she doesn't know and attempts to hang up. Meanwhile, someone in the background was trying to help her by spelling it out-loud. This seems to have no effect on her so I ask for the manager - a lady with an fairly thick accent. In the middle of this, she begins speaking with someone else. End result - she assured me someone would reach out to me "after they got off the phone." 20 minutes later, no call. Called in again, spoke to someone who said she was the manager (despite sounding like a completely different person - either that or the manager somehow lost her accent in 20 minutes). This manager impersonator told me that she could not give me the contact info. I explained the disappointment with the fact that they don't reach out to the stylist's clients and she said that they do and "I'm sure someone was going to call you about this." Really? When would that have been? And then, the cherry on top, they ask if I want to schedule with someone else. This place needs to get a clue. Don't rely on this place, especially if it's for an important event. read more

The salon owner and my stylist were so kind and extremely welcoming. I truly enjoyed meeting and interacting with them. The results of my hair are what I didn't love. I am particular, so I brought in a realistic (texture/color) photo to show what I was looking to achieve--both cut and color. My hair is thick so it must be cut like a "V" in the back, and have long layers point-cut into it. I scheduled and communicated that I wanted a balayage, not highlights. The stylist cut my hair straight across and gave me full highlights--roots to ends. Exactly what I did not want. Then when asked how I wanted my hair styled, I said "straight please." The stylist then wave curled my hair for Instagram. Again, did not listen to me. The total cost was $496. I did not leave a tip. Because of how poorly my hair was cut, I actually thinned it out myself two weeks later. It looks so much better, even my coworkers noticed that it looked better. I wish my experience was worth five stars because the staff were so nice. I feel foolish to have payed so much money for a cut and color that I don't love, and did not feel listened to. read more
