Milan came to me highly recommended. Let me start by saying save your money and your aggravation and go somewhere else. I have been highlighting my hair for 40 years and have never had such an awful experience. I scheduled a full foil. I have thick and very healthy hair. She only put highlights on the top. She charged $300, refused to blow out my hair and sent me on. I was driving around At 4pm in a Saturday looking for someo to blow out my hair. When blown out my blonde hair was purple and gray!! I had several huge spots of the color bleeding and thick black roots. She says she leaves a lot of root so people return every mont. $300/month???? I was able to make an appt a month later to fix the bleeding color. She expected payment and a tip. I did not give her either. BTW, if you have a problem, she says she leaving that evening on a 3 week overseas trip. She had 3 overlapping "trips." she has refused to reimburse me for all the spots i gave needed to fix this. I'm thinking of taking legal action. My hair had burned spots with breakage and in One area, 3 inch roots! I should be getting the overall job redone by someone this week. When all is said and done, the overall cost to fix this will be over $1200!!!! Run!!! Do not go to her! Atleast you can say you you were warned. read more

She (Milan) makes inappropriate comments to clients, charges way more then Hair Cuttery for less service, makes up price changes that aren't posted, quotes one price for females and a lower price for males for a massage... insults clients and thinks nothing of it, flat out inappropriate and forget half of your hair the way she goes though tangles...you will leave with less hair and untangled hair. One of the worst haircuts I've ever received. I wanted a new style... I had straight hair, a little more than halfway down my back. I was pretty open to anything new, as long as I would still be able to pull ALL of my hair up into a ponytail for going to the gym. Due to language difficulties (I speak English only, my 'stylist' did not), I ended up with over 12" -- yes a full FOOT LENGTH of my hair on the floor. The front does not pull back into a ponytail... in fact the lower portion of the back doesn't stay in a ponytail either. The sides are uneven, even though I asked repeatedly for them to be evened up. It's choppy, and doesn't lay well in any way. Ridiculous! I'd like to give 1.5 stars based on the highlights that were applied, but Yelp doesn't allow it, so rather than give them 2 stars, I'm downgrading it 1. Technically, they were applied well, although we had a massive argument about what color to use. They wanted to use this light honeyed caramel on my VERY dark brown hair... I wanted a red. I'm glad I stuck to my guns... highlights came out red, but not a natural red -- a very dark, purpley-red, which is actually difficult to see. The honeyed caramel would have looked cheap and tacky. I was not given many color options to choose from when getting my highlights. I've had highlights at other salons, and normally I have to choose between at least 8-10 different shades/tones of red. They had one color sample book, and the red was that nasty artificial purpley-red. Since my hair is so dark it toned down the fakey shade quite a bit. I'll never go back, and strongly do NOT recommend this 'salon'. read more

The stylist I got outright ignored my requests and now my hair looks horrific. I told her I was growing my hair out and to just trim it in the same style, however, as the hair against my neck tends to grow faster than the rest of my hair, I asked her to cut the hair against my neck (basically the bottom half inch of my hairline) about a half inch shorter than the rest of the hair so it doesn't look so scraggly. Instead, she cut 3" layers into the top of my hair. WHAT? I'm pretty sure that's nothing at all like what I asked for. My hair is curly/wavy and layers do NOT work for my hair type. Basically the weight line is at the layers and it looks exactly like I didn't want it to, with the hairs at the bottom of my head longer than the rest of my head. Now if I want it to look halfway decent I need to spend an hour styling it. I am not a styling kind of person- I'm wash and go all the way, but if I don't waste an hour contorting my arms into all sorts of weird positions and destroying my hair with hot irons, I have a mullet. The only other solution is to cut the long layers up to the short layers and lose 3" of hair, which is basically almost all of my length, and which took me two years to grow in the first place. read more

Ok. So I went to this place to get a professional cut. The owner Milan had a sarcastic laugh seeing my hair which was colored using henna. I swallowed my retort. Next she started about Korean opera which really testing my patience. She wanted to know my marital status and my religion. "Are you a Muslim?"She scoffed when I said I was a Hindu: "You guys believe in everything". And also had an opinion about India: "You produce a lot of children, so you are over populated." She charged me 25$ for an ordinary trim (no shampoo or blow dry) and remarked that since my straighter than straight hair is wavy (according to her), it's difficult to get an even cut. I just moved to the area and have been dreading the fact that I need to find a new hair stylist. I had such a great stylist in Boston that I actually considered flying back just for a cut. Anyway, I took a chance at Image & Styles since it's near my house and I am glad I did. Milan was very friendly and my stylist Brian was awesome! He was very professional and the cut was exactly what I wanted. I will definitely be going back to him again. Edit: Unfortunately, Brian has left this salon. Milan cut my hair yesterday and it was bad. I asked for a messy/layered bob and even showed her a picture of the previous cut done by Brian. What I got instead was a blunt and uneven bob cut that looks like she took garden sheers and just chopped off my hair. It was such a waste of money. She may be friendly and good at cutting men's hair, but I don't think she is good at cutting women's hair. Now, I have to call other salons to see if they can fix this mess. read more

I have been to quite a few barbers and hair salons in my time. This is one I will more than likely stick with while I live in this area. As a non-manicured male I am not really concerned about how my hair comes out, if it is bad I just wear a hat for the next 2 weeks. I went in on a Friday around 1PM and there were only 2 people working and one other customer in the shop. This made me nervous but, I figured I was already there! Lee was my stylist, for me she was the epitome of perfection when it comes to a pleasant experience. Right when I walked through the door she waved me over and asked me one question, "How do you want your hair done", I said just the way it is but shorter. I keep my hair at a length where it is normally cut all by scissors. That was the extent of our conversation, which is perfect because I am not a small talk person. She was very meticulous and gentle. I felt like she really cared how the cut would come out, not to mention she cut my hair just the way I like it. Once she was finished she pulled a warm cloth out of what I would assume to be heaven and proceeded to give a very enjoyable neck massage!! She even trimmed my beard up to match the length of my sideburns. I really had a good experience and would recommend this shop! read more

I have patronized a salon at Landmark Mall for 5 years and even though I received beautiful color and highlights every time, I grew tired of the lack of warmth among both staff and the salon itself. Milan walked me through every step of the coloring process and provided me with flattering, natural color and a superior cut that compliments both my face and my personality. Overall, I really like Milan and her staff. They are always very nice and respectful to me. There is sometimes a language barrier (for lack of a better word), but it is not so much a problem for me because the staff are good at knowing what I want (esp since I am not particular and I am a guy). Prices are very good; best in the area that I have found ($16 for a men's haircut; $25 for a five-star treatment to include a scalp and neck massage). Also heard that they are pretty good for woman too. Milan does like to chat so if you are not the chatting type you might want to use someone else there. Nothing wrong with that, just warning if that is not your type of thing. I have been going here for about 3 years and always feel good after leaving the salon. I never make an appointment and I usually never have to wait (if I do it is like 15 mins max). It also depends on when I go too for waiting times. First I want to say the haircut was really great, Milan is talented and helped me find I good style I like. I wish I could give her more stars, however, I can't, for the same reason, you will find over and over in her reviews. She is massively inappropriate in a way that is beyond rude. I figured maybe it was a bad day, but after 3 tries, I was done. She constantly made hurtful and inappropriate comments on my weight (all three visits). She kept telling how to eat to "get that belly to go down." and asking was my "wife ok that you are too big of a man?" Constantly tried to pry into more spiritual and political background. She even tried giving me unsolicited marriage advice even though I refused to tell her any free information. Also, she would go on and on, about what a fashion and hair expert she was, and how I was so lucky to have her taking care of me. Lastly, the price for the exact same haircut changed every time I went in. I don't hold anything against her. She is great at hair, but bad at people. I just got home from getting my hair cut and styled by Milan. I have been having a bit of bad luck in the last 2 years post chemo with the new curly hair and not finding the right stylist relationship. My hair used to be wavy. Well that changed today! For a first time appointment I showed up at the wrong time my mistake but Milan was very accommodating and I promise not to mix this up next time. I stopped by several days before to talk to Milan and make the appointment. She cut my hair wet fluffed the curls then had her assistant dry it straight to fine tune the cut while dry. I'll be honest when the assistant was drying my hair straight I was getting nervous...I wanted to see my curls. After Milan finished up the cut while dry she said she could wet it to bring out the curl. Now I was really liking the blowout!! I walked in the house and my boyfriend first said "what did you do to your hair I like your curls!" Then in split second with a full look he says "wow I really like the cut it really looks good it actually makes you look younger" I love my cut and style thank you Milan!! This past weekend I had a horrible experience in a DC salon/school. Long story, bust when I got out I called Milan's salon and right away she said yes I can take you. Now on a Saturday morning that was rare. I knew Milan from doing my daughter's hair, and I knew she was a great stylist, but I was brainwashed into thinking Aveda was the only color I could have on my hair. So I would never let her touch my hair. So my bad experience was a blessing. I needed to break free! And Milan was right. Her color is richer and shinier than anything I have ever used. Including Aveda. Milan immediately got me in. Gave me a great price, and my hair has never looked better. And it only took about an hour or so. I couldn't be happier. Yes she might sing, like the other yelper stated. Who cares!! It's soothing, pretty singing. Humming maybe. It's not like she's twerking to rump shaker so big deal! And she may ask questions, or make small talk that people don't like. Not me personally, I liked her personality. She's funny. And it's a business where you have to talk to people. So if you looking for complete peace and quiet just bring a book. Pretend to be deaf, and stuff your ears with cotton. Whatever works. But she does great hair, for a great price. I have been visiting Zarmina for years and am so happy she found a new salon to work with and can put her talents to good use. She works wonders with hair color in particular, including long hair, thick hair, highlights and lowlights, etc. and just is a very talented and likeable stylist and a true professional. She was always one of the busiest stylists at her old salon - cuts all types of hair -- men, kids, fashion-forward, elderly, plain jane, you name it. Haircut was OK but not great. Stylist didn't speak much English. She was careless while rinsing my hair and my shirt got soaking wet and I promptly went home to change my shirt.
