Firstly the stylist arrived late. I will let that slide. I was assigned Helen as the stylist and she was having trouble speaking in English. I get that too. She was unfriendly and did not care to check with me what I wanted. She couldn't understand my instructions well and when I showed her hair length (and told her repeatedly to check with me before cutting) she cut off 10 inches off my hair. I wanted layers but because the hair was already cut so short I couldn't get layers as it would have reduced the length further more. I was so upset with the service. I was offered no apology whatsoever and instead the head staff told me maybe we should put water on your hair and ruin it even more for wasting our time! Do not recommend the stylist or the salon to anyone! You may see comments from them on my post saying how I'm lying and they did their best, you can choose to believe whoever. As a paying customer, my service was not as expected and the customer service was terrible. read more

Don't come here for pedicures. It took two hours for gel removal and a regular pedicure with Lisa. It was not a good experience. They used some foot spa bucket inside of the actual foot bath because she said it's "cleaner"... took FOREVER to do the removal and pedicure. She put the soak on my toes and disappeared for 35 minutes. She didn't even have white polish and clipped my already-short toes without asking. She buffed the skin around my toe nails very aggressively and now they're very sensitive/layers of skin have been removed. Nail polish was chunky and she added acetone. She didn't pain the whole nail. She put me under foot fans that turned off every one minute. She didn't apply the polish evenly. What a nightmare! read more

I genuinely regret spending $200 here. My stylist, Tony, gave me a haircut that's uneven and looks rushed, like it wasn't done by someone who knows what they're doing. The color already started fading after just 2 days, which is honestly ridiculous for a salon charging those prices. On top of that, I overheard Tony talking about how he was getting a pay cut because I had a Groupon, which made the whole experience feel really unprofessional and uncomfortable. For that kind of money, you expect real skill and a better atmosphere, not something that looks bad almost immediately and leaves you feeling awkward. It's been three weeks since my appointment, and I didn't want to write this review out of emotion, but I truly HATE my hair. I purchased a Groupon for a haircut, color, and wash and was booked with Tony. I have thick, long hair, so before we started, I specifically asked if there would be any additional charges due to the length and thickness. He told me I would only be charged extra for toner. I was completely fine with that. At the end of the appointment, however, he added another unexpected charge. When I questioned it, he said, "Maybe you didn't hear me because I had dental work." That was not the case. The extra fee was never clearly communicated. If it had been, I would have understood and agreed. What I'm not okay with is being surprised at checkout. The situation became even more uncomfortable when he responded rudely and said, "Do you know how much I usually charge? $350." That comment felt unnecessary and unprofessional. First, no one should be made to feel shamed for using a Groupon. If you choose to accept Groupon clients, you should treat them with the same respect as any other customer. Second, I would never pay that amount for the result I received. Unfortunately, the haircut itself was also extremely disappointing. My hair was chopped much shorter than expected, and the layers are not blended at all--they look blunt and uneven. I actually had to go to a different salon to try to fix it. I genuinely hate how it turned out, and knowing it will take 3-4 months to grow out has been really upsetting. I understand that thicker, longer hair can require extra product and time, and I'm more than willing to pay fairly for that. What I'm not okay with is unclear pricing, sudden charges, and being treated rudely as a customer. I really wish this had been a better experience. read more

I have been a loyal customer for 15+ years (and my family gets their haircut here as well). I have always been happy with the service and professionalism, however today is the last time I will be a customer. Let me be clear, that I LOVE my stylist and have and would continue to recommend her. However, the salon was recently sold to a new owner and in that time, she they hve raised prices 3 times in 6 months. When I paid today I was charged $240 for a partial highlight and color. This is $10 MORE than I was charged at my last appt for a FULL color and highlight. Each time the price has gone up, I've never been notified before the service. There was no mention when I made my appt, confirmed appt or upon arrival and there no signage indicating the price increase. Not only is this price gauging, but it is also unprofessional not to communicate the changes with the customers. I am so sorry that the StudionSalon is under new ownership. This one star review is for the new owner only and not the stylists who I would give 5 stars and they are always very professional. This business has a new owner and I booked an appointment for a blowout which takes extra time and even asked the new owner when I called if my long term stylist had enough time for a blowout. She said yes. Well the owner booked a standard cut and blow dry with my stylist so there was not enough time for this lengthier service (not the fault of the stylist). I complained to the owner since she took my appointment call and she tried to blame me and she clearly did not know the difference between a blow dry vs a blow out. She accepted zero responsibility for her error and could not even apologize. Then she came back a few minutes later and bizarrely asked me if I wanted to book an appointment with another stylist!!! I informed her that I only deal with my current stylist. I found her to be a very toxic, incompetent and blame shifting person. Even more shocking was her overall unprofessional behavior. No one was at the receptionist desk when I arrived and I watched the owner return to the front desk and completely ignore me and other clients while she had her hair in curlers and was blowing it dry at the front desk. It felt like a comedy sketch. The new owner clearly has zero common or business sense and does not know what she is doing. I am so sorry to see this salon go down hill so quickly due to the new owner. I have gone here for many years and I doubt it can continue as a viable business much longer. read more

I went this week for a classic manicure and this salon just isn't ready for this service. My manicurist was lovely, friendly and gave her best effort, but it was not a pleasant experience. The manicure took over an hour and I did not wait around for the top coat. She got up to attend to other things multiple times while I sat in the chair. The manicure was OK, but the polish was all over my cuticles and fingers so I took it off as soon as I got home. I did tip her well because she was delightful, but it was a terrible experience. I received a written quote for $200 for bleaching my hair and provided a picture. I chose this salon specifically because of the quoted price and was willing to travel from Germantown, Maryland to Arlington, Virginia, which involved an hour-long drive each way and toll expenses. However, when I arrived for my appointment, the staff began the service without notifying me of any change in price. At checkout, I was charged $400+tax, double the quoted amount, with no prior notice or consent. When I presented the written quote to confirm the agreed price, the employee became defensive and claimed that my hair was "significantly longer." This was inaccurate, as my appointment had been scheduled only six weeks earlier, and my hair had grown only a few millimeters. When I calmly questioned the price difference, the staff's behavior became aggressive and unprofessional--they threw the receipt at me and asked me to leave the salon. Additionally, when I arrived and asked for the receptionist's name--the individual who had originally given me the quote--staff members gave me conflicting and false names, clearly attempting to confuse or mislead me. This further reinforced my concern about the salon's honesty and professionalism. Didn't receive as quality of a service as I thought I was going to receive. I went there to get my hair washed and condition, and styled with a trim. I left only receiving a shampoo, blow dry, and ends trimmed. My hair lasted for only few hours before getting frizzy. I paid 120 before tip and 140 after. If you are an African American,please be aware that they offer blowout and silk press but are not highly skilled in such. I highly recommend you do not go here to be styled. Respectfully P.s. I rechecked the website and they took down some of their services they offered when I booked an appointment. They removed blowout and Brazilian blow out from their list of services. Tony insisted that he should use a diffuser and not do the blowout as i requested w the soft curls. i thought ok i'll give it a chance , well after he got done w the diffuser it just looked like scrunched my hair myself , yes there were waves and curl but nothing at all like the pictures with soft flowing curls . Ashley is a color expert/miracle worker! I knew of Ashley's reputation as a top stylist from friends in Charlottesville and I was so excited to see she has moved to Arlington! I had a disaster of a haircut and color from too many hopeful sessions with an inexperienced stylist at a salon near my home. I needed help! Ashley spent a lot of time talking to me about my experiences and what I wanted then walked me through what she thought was best. My gray and over processed roots were covered in a natural looking base while she wove a combination of lowlights and highlights throughout all my hair. Before I discuss the reasons I am unhappy, I do want to mention how nice my hair stylist was. She was kind, but unfortunately my hair just didn't turn out the way it should. To start, the highlights look very, very chunky and do not blend with my previous coloring. Not to mention, and I am sad I didn't notice it in the salon because it was styled, but there are brassy patches. I asked for a partial and for it to blend in with the previous highlights, but it doesn't blend at all. It's literally a completely abrupt change between colorings. It's very embarrassing. Lastly, in terms of experience, the assistant who washed my hair was consistently pulling too hard with a comb on my wet hair and scrubbing my scalp way too aggressively. I am so upset I paid $260+ for the services (+ tip) for fried, uneven hair. Not to mention, I have to find someone else to fix this hair style. read more

Kambiz did a horrible job on my hair. First off, he seemed super rushed throughout the whole appointment. He didn't introduce himself (just came in and told me to follow him), slapped color on my hair so fast it liberally splattered all over the floor and cape, didn't ask how I wanted it cut or how much I wanted off, and rushed out of the salon with his bag in tow while I was paying. The final product was darker and brassier then I wanted and when I styled it at home I noticed some of the low lights he put in splattered on the blonde at the ends of my hair (see pics)! Ashley Newcomer recently did my hair and unfortunately I wasn't pleased with the out come. I asked for a balayage and she colored my roots then charged me $250. I reach out to discuss my concerns and this stylist was absolutely atrocious. She was immediately combative and completely unprofessional. She began to dictate what she would and would not do as it pertains to my hair. Her behavior was worse when I arrived at the salon in person the next day. I had to request another stylist to help me. She then bad mouthed me to her colleague in front of another guest. I would not recommend allowing this woman anywhere near your hair not only because she is an awful stylist but her attitude is salt in the wound. I'm the client, I wasn't happy and instead of consulting or helping me she attacked me and made me feel as though I was stuck with the disaster on my head. I'm writing this review for Kambiz, because the dude has made my hair an absolute gem, and I could not be more grateful. I came to Kambiz with dark, dark hair that needed to be reshaped into a cute bob as my horrendous layered lob grew out. He took me to a chic bob that grew beautifully. Then I wanted baby bangs. He delivered. Then I told him I wanted my box, dark hair to go back to my natural hair color. I brought in a picture of me at six years old and stared at Kambiz like a lost puppy while he mixed my color. He took me back, y'all. Then (because if you couldn't tell already, I have hair ADHD) I explained to Kambiz that I wanted hair extensions. So this saint of a hairstylist and genius at balayage then has to order my hair, dye each individual section, and organize it for my hair, all while dealing with me texting him for updates every few days and sending him giddy gifs related to hair. This poor man. Long story short, I now have decidedly not-short hair that flows like a mermaid and is my natural hair color. Everything Kambiz touches makes your hair days better. I wouldn't recommend this salon. Tony cut my hair. He was more worried about me (and my friends) becoming his "clientele" than listening to what kind of haircut I wanted. This was my first hint I should've RUN! I just moved to the area and brought in several pictures which showed the multiple layers. I even told him that I can't have it all one length because I have very thick and curly hair. I had to stop him mid-cut. He gave me a ONCE LAYER BOB and took off 2 inches (when I came in for touch up). I'm pretty sure he's NEVER cut hair before. Clearly I was distraught and the manager couldn't be found. Tony took care of me right away and listened to what I wanted while also giving me some suggestions of his own. I ended up cutting most of my hair off and dying it much darker. He never went shorter then what I asked for. I got the perfect length, cut, and color! It was like he read my mind.
