If you're thinking of going here, go to Urban Halo instead. Similar pricing, but you'll have a much better experience. I went to Jon David Salon hoping to have my hair lightened and trimmed. While the results are fine, the experience was really uncomfortable. The stylist kept love bombing me about how pretty I am while I was trying to explain what I wanted. It was really unnecessary and I couldn't get a full sentence out. Im not picky about my hair, but I went into the experience having no idea what she was going to do. Whoever they had do my shampoo/wash and toner was horrible. Water went all over my face and a ton into my ears. She massaged way more than my scalp, manhandling my whole head and wiping my cheeks and forehead. Not necessary to touch someone's face. My stylist even came over and offered me a tissue because she saw what was happening. When applying the toner, it also got on my ears and they have been burning since (it has almost been a full day). Overall, skip this place. For the price they pay, the service is way too sloppy. End result was fine, but you can definitely find that elsewhere [follow up] my ears are definitely having a reaction, they are red and puffy and hurt. This place is an actual hazard, I've never had this happen before and have been having my hair dyed for years. read more

I've gone to the location at lee heights and have never experienced the disrespect and poor experience that I had at Wilson Blvd. Since I walked in, the stylist was extremely aggressive and wouldn't look at me/greet me or ask me what I wanted--she just saw highlights and began. I was considering switching from babylights to highlights and asked for her opinion and she was extremely aggressive and disrespectful. Only after I made a face that made it very apparent I felt very disrespected did she switch up her attitude and became SLIGHTLY more respectful. While my hair was in the bowl and she tried to reach the back of my head by lifting my head up and I lifted it up a bit too high and instead of asking me to tilt my head back, she TUGGED my hair back multiple times. Like genuinely pulling on my hair instead of simply using her words. Then when brushing my hair she was so harsh and aggressive but when I'd move my head up in pain she would yet again TUG my hair back down. I got a headache after because it was so harsh and definitely lost more hair than needed from that. The entire service just very much felt like she didn't want to be there or do my hair which of course impacted the outcome of my hair as I can tell by the bleeding of the highlights--so extremely frustrating. I'm still a student and pretty young so it almost felt like she thought it was okay to belittle me and disrespect me because of that? I honestly am in shock at the situation and couldn't even bring myself to tip. This was such a weird haircut experience. She didn't use any heat protectant or any products in my hair for blowdrying and kept complaining about how much hair I had the whole time. Like sorry the reason I'm here is because i have alot of hair??? She aggressively kept brushing my hair and i literally smelled like burned hair after it was done. Was looking for a new stylist as the stylist I have used for the past 10+ years has limited availability anymore. I called and booked a haircut the day before my appointment. They confirmed the appointment but not the stylist. The day of I arrived and still did not get the name of my stylist. I was shown to a chair and my stylist came out, still no introduction. I showed her a photo of what I wanted which included layers framing the face, a few inches off the back with long, blended layers. My stylist never parted my hair, or sectioned it off, (I have thick hair) she just started cutting. I was a little nervous, but decided to trust the process. What I ended up with was chunky layers, and two different haircuts. The layers are not blended and instead I have chunks of hair. I told the stylist I usually curl the back under and the front towards my face. She curled it all upwards and blowed dried the top and front of my hair flat to my head. I mentioned that I was hoping for a little more volume in the front similar to the photo I showed her. She said my hair is too heavy for volume. I have only been wearing it for 40+ years, so what do I know? Over the last few days as I have been styling my hair each morning I am becoming more and more frustrated with how it has turned out. The stylist I had was labelled as an advanced master stylist which I assumed meant they were very experienced with all types of hair and one of the best. Not in my case. Also... one of the photos shown on Yelp actually has the haircut I requested, just a little shorter, so that makes me even more angry that the stylist I was assigned messed up my hair. It is on the rather short end so it will be some messy pony tails until I can grow it out some more or I will need to just chop it off to a bob. If you have thick hair and are looking for a stylist who will listen to your requests and actually cut your hair similar to the pictures you show, go somewhere else. Going to a new salon is always a bit nerve racking, but Sarah handled it like a pro. I told her my goals and she gave me good suggestions and my hair turned out great! I'm not sure what wizardry she did but my hair has never felt so soft, I got so many compliments. I was extremely disappointed and frustrated with my experience at this salon especially since it was recommended by a friend. The woman washing my hair got shampoo ALL over my face and neck. She didn't even try to avoid it. There were multiple times where she just slathered her hands fully across my forehead, cheeks, chin, jawline, front and sides of my neck. Typically the shampooing is a relaxing experience, but this was torture. I just sat there in anger and frustration waiting for it to be over. When she was finally done she was shocked when I asked for a towel to dry off my face. She then proceeded to aggressively brush (yank) out my hair. She started pulling the hair brush starting from the roots which caused my hair to mat. She then aggressively yanked the brush through the mats she created. I probably lost a month's worth of shedding in those five minutes of misery. The hair stylist then took over brushing my hair and I thought I was going to be saved, but she continued to aggressively yank at my hair. I came in to get the dead ends trimmed off my hair. Since there is no difference in price between a simple trim of dead ends and a styling hair cut I decided I would ask for some long layers. When the stylist started to cut my hair my hair was parted diagonally and zig-zaged across my scalp. I stopped the stylist to ask if she wanted to fix my hair part before continuing with cutting my hair and she said that it didn't matter. When she was done cutting my hair I asked her if she forgot about the long layers because it didn't seem like she did that at all. She insisted that she did style the long layers. Well, she did not. I honestly don't even think she knows what layers are. All she managed to do was give me the most atrocious haircut - seriously it looks like I was attacked by a kindergarten class with scissors. My hair looks like a staircase with blunt chopped ends. There is no blending or smooth transition. She hacked my front pieces way too short and then continued the trend to finish the set of steps that is now my hair. When it came to blow drying and heat styling my hair she did not use any heat protectant on my hair prior which was astounding. I've never been to a hair salon that does not use heat protectant and oils/serums. I may have just gotten extremely unlucky with who I was paired with that day, but shy salon that keeps "stylists" like this on staff isn't a redeeming salon in my opinion. I am just hoping that my hair grows fast so I can get this horrific haircut fixed. read more

I needed...something to nourish my hair after a summer of swimming at a pool. I just did not know exactly what. Selected Angela G at Jon David in Lee Heights. I could not be more pleased! I needed color at the roots and blended with the rest of my hair, and I needed a trim (which I initially resisted). I've come in twice, well technically 3 times if you count the owner's color correction. Once with the owner and a second and third time (read: mistake) with another stylist. I asked for medium cool brown with blonde highlights. This is not a crazy hair color request considering I am starting off with a med brown, level 6 base. The owner was rushed and literally slapped the dye so hard onto the foils to get through the service he splatters bleach everywhere. It also resulted in student level bleed out at between foils. Unfortunately, both the owner and the other stylist double processed my blonde BOTH times and left me with dry, brassy, broken hair. The first time I had to come back because the color was filled with zebra orange streaks with severe bleed through at the root from sloppy foil placement. I had an emergency color correction with a double process bleach and was sent home with a sorry and a protein shampoo and conditioner. The second time I went with the emergency stylist who helped me before but he AGAIN double processed my hair even though it wasn't a color correction. I think in this salon they think a double process for a normal service is okay....and that is how you treat hair. DO NOT LET THEM PUT BLEACH IN YOUR HAIR WHILE IN THE BOWL RINCING OUT THE FIRST BLEACH SERVICE. Not that they asked of course! Their techniques are subpar in every way. From how they put on foils, to how they wash hair but the worst was how their junior stylist would brush my brittle wet hair with a paddle brush with such force you can hear the hair breaking and snapping. HORRIBLE. do not go here. Oh and omg the last thing, my hair after the second time was this horrible green reflective color. I swore it was metallic. It was reflected light somehow....in a lovely tone of vomit green. . It must have been the Chernobyl special because it destroyed almost bond in my hair and what was left glowed green. Their price list is not accurate and they will just charge you whatever. I am left with bad hair for the next 2 years while this damage grows out. Save your hair, your time and your money. There are so many good stylists in the DMV area there is no excuse for this level of negligence for hair health. read more

I went in for layers and strands to pull out of my ponytail in the front and passed my chin. I went home and showered and realized that I did not get any layers just a cut that was uneven and the strands on my face is left with huge chunks that are also uneven. I have never been so upset about a haircut will never be going back. Usually when girls get haircuts a blowout with a round brush is used and I did get that but also random curls that were also not even. With all the "experts" that they said they had or juniors never thought a salon would separate people from working to cut actual hair but what they need to work on is better haircuts and practice. I went into another salon today and the stylist took a look at my hair and realized that the damage but hopefully this reaches out to the girls to not get layers here. read more

I went to the Arlington salon for the first time last month and I have been going back and forth as to whether I wanted to write this review or not. But a month later and my hair is still messed up... so here goes my experience. I went in to get my hair colored to be a more subtle natural warm blonde rather than the platinum I had been. I showed ample photos of the idea/vibe I was going for prior to getting started. I am unsure if the stylist simply did not hear me or what, but I walked out with streaky hair with clumps of platinum blonde not blended at all with the dark ash color he added (even though I specifically asked for no cool tones) which resulted in making me look slightly gray (I am 23). I called to schedule a re-do and he was able to fit me in the next day. When I got in he said it was MY fault for not explaining what I wanted. I again showed the SAME pictures of the "vibe" I was going for in comparison to what my hair had looked like after he colored it (he said it was just the lighting- even though I had pictures in natural light as well normal lighting). He proceeded to tell me he was not a "magician" and went through all technicalities of each picture and how none were possible for me. From all of my past experiences I thought showing an idea was enough to let stylists do their thing - I recognize that my hair will not look EXACTLY like the photo but I thought it would at least be in the same vein. But he wanted an exact picture. So I gave him one photo and he again proceeded to tell me I was wrong and it couldn't be done. I showed him another photo, again telling me it was impossible. In the end he stripped my hair twice and dyed it all over. I honestly almost left in tears halfway through the process because of his tone / condescending speech. The second time I left it looked more like a strawberry blonde than anything (which I thought was at least better than grey). BUT in a few days the color developed to have an extremely RED undertone. Spent a whole lot of money and time and still did not have anything close to what I had wanted. Needless to say I will never step foot in the salon ever again. read more

My daughter showed a photo of chin length curtain bangs and got cheekbone length curtain bangs. Otherwise she left with hair that looked almost the exact same as when she went in. Also, not sure if today was unusual with the amount of kids in the salon but parents have no where to wait. Nearly every stylist was working on a kid but the parents have to wait in their car or at starbucks nearby. I went to have babylights on my hair, did not get the color I wanted even after the 2nd try. On top of that, the hair stylist Lilian was super reckless with the chemicals she was using, she had some of the hair bleach on my face, I noticed it after the burning sensation I was experiencing! And to "help" me, she gave me a fragranced Victoria'secret lotion to apply on top of the burn!! Then she got a few splashes of shampoo into my eye! She kept the bleach on my hair for too long! I arrived there at 1:38 and left around 4:30. Consequently, I GOT BURNS ON EITHER SIDE OF MY FACE CLOSE TO MY HAIRLINE AND THE BACK OF MY EARS!! And all they did was just a refund! They do not care about the consequences of their unprofessional and uneducated employees and their work!! The manager was very careless and indifferent about the situation! Appointment started off not well to begin with. I was scheduled for 3:45 pm, and waited until 4:30 pm and finally assigned to a different stylist than the one I had originally. I asked for around 3.5 inches off my hair, got way more (closer to 6 inches) cut off. I expressed my disappointment to the stylist and told her it was too short. She kept telling me it was because it was blow dryed and looked shorter than what I asked for when it was wet. Told me that the pieces of hair on the floor are the length I asked off, but I'm pretty sure she kept taking off more length as the haircut progressed. I just got home and straightened it to compare to my length before and she definitely took off WAY more than what I asked. I am going on vacation in a few days and very disappointed that my hair is not at all how I wanted it. The first photo is just from this week, and my hair was curled so it was even longer than the photo normally. The second one is now with the hair cut. This salon is all over the place. The 1st time I took my daughter there she saw Hasina who is titled as a "Junior" and was treated with respect, had a great experience and her hair turned out great! Then we decided to both make appointments several months later. Our stylist was Cheryl who is titled "Advanced Expert".... Clearly this company makes up their own titles! Because of this Covid, I was not able to accompany my teenager daughter (and really, she is old enough to do this on her own). When she was done, she came out and I asked her what she had done. It literally looked like they just shampooed her! In Cherly's defense, my daughter did forget to tell her that she wanted her (very thick) hair thinned. BUT, she did tell Cheryl at what length she wanted her hair at and that she wanted it layered. Cheryl told my daughter that she didn't need her hair layered and did not cut her hair at the length she requested. Because of these restriction, my daughter went home and I continued with my appointment. I got home and was horrified at what Cheryl, the advanced expert did to her hair! I attempted to fix it, but I am NO stylist. We finally called and asked to have someone else fix her hair. Cheryl, the Advanced Expert was standing by when we arrived, they again didn't want me to go back but this time I wasn't going to let that happen. When PJ "Expert" came and asked if she could just tell her what was wrong. Mind you PJ at first was very abrupt and rude. She knew she was fixing another stylists mistake, one would think that she would take that into consideration when approaching said client/s. My daughter (obviously shy) was worried because Cheryl was there, responded with "I wanted it shorter" The Advanced Expert Cheryl's response was beyond unprofessional, she said "YES!" so we could all hear. I explained to PJ that wasn't the reason (see picture of my daughters cut after Cheryl was done). Yes my daughter did want it shorter then was cut, but more importantly she wanted it even! While PJ was very abrupt in our first interaction, she was the bomb! She took over and fixed the mess she was given. 2 stars because of Cheryl and our first interaction with PJ. At the end of the day, I appreciate what PJ was able to do with my daughters hair, but I will not be going back. read more

I told them I did not want red and it came out completely red (the hardest color to get out) I went to Lex at Jon David Salon in Rosslyn and she was amazing!!!!! She not only completely fixed my hair, got most of the red out, but gave me exactly what I was looking for! Last year I got highlights at this salon and after the first wash I didn't like the result so I contacted the salon and they re did it, maybe thats why they got something against me and when I went in June this year again the completely messed up my hair. The stylist was on their highest level but didnt pull my highlights all The way down resulting in very visible stains and multicolors. the color looks so messy I don't even know how to describe. Also asked for a haircut and not only got cut more than I asked for, left and right side are completely uneven. Horrible experience, will not be returning. read more
