After avoiding hair salons during the worst of the pandemic, my hair was a shaggy mess. I really wanted a neighborhood salon, so I booked Nolaska and have had two haircuts from her. She did a fantastic job both times and I recommend her. I asked her to focus on working with some problem areas, such as a stubborn cowlick and helping me gain volume in my fine wavy hair. She gave me a layered, versatile cut that really works, whether I let it dry naturally or style it. She observes COVID precautions and the large salon is not so crowded that one has to worry. I've been faithful to Cori and Mili Salon since I lived in Arlington about 6 years ago. I now live in Alexandria, but always make the trek back. Cori's excellent at listening to you, and does a great job incorporating your thoughts and ideas together to come up with a great cut or color that really suits you. Cuts are a bit on the expensive side, IMO, but well worth it. I never need to come back in-between cuts for a clean up or trim, and so my hair looks great between cuts. I also love that they offer you a glass of wine or another beverage while you wait and are getting your cut. I'm due for another visit soon, so you can bet I'll be back! read more

My husband has been going to this place for over a year now. He gets a 1940s military haircut, which so many hair stylist screw up - it's not an easy cut! But Nolaksa is just AWESOME - actually, they all are (Mili himself did my husband's last haircut) and it was the quality I've come to expect from this place!! He shows her the picture, and she cuts EXACTLY what he showed her. It has a nice boutique feel, without the outrageous boutique prices (it's actually quite cheap!). I usually go with him, just for the atmosphere.... and as far as punctuality, they're usually pretty laid back - if you're 5 minutes late, no biggie! (Awesome, cause I'm always late - haha). I feel absolutely betrayed by Yelp. I just moved here and saw that Behar was excellent at coloring hair so I thought that I would give Mili Salon a try. Yes, they're entertaining- but so is reality television.... Doesn't mean I want those people touching my hair. Long story short, I asked for full color blonde just to cover the roots of my hair. His solution was covering my hair in peroxide, burning my scalp, and leaving me with neon orange tinted hair. I'll happily e-mail a before and after picture to anyone. I left horrified and had to pay another salon to fix it and pray that all my hair didn't fall out from the damage he caused. PLEASE save yourself the money and frustration and go anywhere else. read more

Nic did my hair. Did a fabulous job and it cost $55 for wash and cut which I feel is reasonable for this area. However despite the great cut and style there are a couple detractors and reasons I won't be going back: 1.) When I walked into the salon it smelled smokey. Perhaps I'm just overly sensitive and I'd like to assume no one was smoking in the salon but the it bothered me none the less. 2.) Nic was extremely friendly but just too talkative for my taste. He would often stop cutting my hair altogether to stand there and chat about something. Took me over an hour to get out of there. I prefer a much quicker appointment. I know I could have made an appointment with another stylist at the salon but if Nic happened to remember me I would have felt bad. Again, though, Nic was very talented, did a great job with my thick frizzy hair. If the 2 things I find to be detractors don't bother you I would definitely encourage you to make an appointment. Something to note that they accept credit cards as payment but only accept tips in cash. read more

Cori is my hairdresser and I have been with her for several years. I have created quite a cult following for her as I've recommended her to family and friends alike. Now, my sister, fiance, fiance's brother, mother, and sister all go to her. Cori is really great at figuring out what kind of haircut fits your hair profile and lifestyle. If you ask her to cut your hair a certain way, she will be honest with you and tell you if she thinks it will work or not, and let you decide. I usually get the same type of cut, although, she has cut my hair both when short and long, and I've loved both styles. One disclaimer, she is cash only. Also, if you want to grow your hair long, you will need to stress to her that you only want a little taken off, as sometimes she can get carried away. Otherwise, she is a gem. read more

I went to Mili for the first time after reading the positive reviews. My expectations were high and my visit did not disappoint. I had Behr as my stylist and I could not be happier with the result. I came in looking to chop off a good 8 inches and get a long bob kind of cut. With the help of my photos for reference and Behr constantly seeking my approval and handing me a mirror in between cuts I felt extremely comfortable. This salon is incredible. I called on a whim wanting to change my hair, I am so glad that fate brought me to Behar. He's a wonderful person and a color/cut styling God. This salon is very convenient, and you get good quality and with a reasonable price for a good haircut in the DC area. I've been to many similarly priced (and more expensive) places and haven't gotten as good a cut as you get here. I don't have to blow dry my hair every day and it still looks good and professional. They don't give you any flak if you admit you don't style your hair every day or use product, or wait too long between cuts. Behar is WONDERFUL for color, especially for us darker skinned ladies. After going to several stylists for highlights, I've learned that not everyone has this skill. Note to beauty schools: please train your students to work on women of color! Behar also minimizes the use of bleach, which helps me have hair much lighter than my natural color without much damage. In general, he's great with consults and suggesting color without being overbearing. Another thing I like about this place is that the prices are really reasonable. Behar is generous with the foils if you want him to be. What I mean is that some stylists will only do the very top layer of hair for a "partial" highlight. He goes all the way in through the sides and lower layers of the hair even for a partial. This makes getting great color much more affordable. I've also been impressed with Behar's commitment to a client's happiness. If I'm not completely happy, he offers to let me wait a week, see how I like it after I'm used to it, and then modify the color with a toner or other color technique. It's easy to get appointments here too, and Behar has made the effort to squeeze me in several times. Plus, Behar always has a drink to offer clients and is very friendly and talkative. One downside to this salon is that it isn't fancy. Doesn't look like much from the outside and the interior is a bit dated. Doesn't bother me a bit as I love the service here. I consider this one of the hidden gems of Arlington, and unlike some other salons in the area, street parking is easy to find on weekdays. Love this place! read more

Love Love Love this place! I recently moved to the west coast and am already missing Behar! He always did an amazing job with my hair (no easy feat... my hair is super curly and unruly). They couldn't be friendlier in there either! You are always met with a smile and hug and while I am getting my hair done I have always been offered a drink (coffee, tea, wine, beer or mimosa) and let me tell you, you haven't gotten your hair done til you have had it cut while sipping a mimosa! :) I have also gotten highlights from Behar several times and have gotten a ton of compliments on the color (he has a superb eye for color)! Before I moved to Cali I lived in MD briefly and still made the trek to Arlington to see Behar! and when I am back east I will be stopping by, it's THAT worth it!!! I had never wanted to write a review on Yelp until I went to Mili Salon. I had read other posts here about the salon and it seemed to have a pretty positive vibe so I decided to check it out. I essentially called Mili Salon waiving a white flag- new to the area, yet to find a salon that I liked enough to go back to, and having just received the worst haircut of my life from a salon in Rosslyn a few weeks ago.... I was basically desperate. I called on a Tuesday afternoon and they got me in on Wednesday at 6:00. From the outside, the salon looks a little questionable. As a approached I even thought of a few painless excuses to pull out if I walked into the salon and it turned out to be a dump. I walked in and immediately knew I was in the right place. It had a quiet/indie vibe (is the best way I can describe it). It was clean, great lighting, not crowded, simple, had cool artwork and was relaxing. I was greeted by Nolaska, who was cutting my hair that day. Nolaska is a sweet heart who is truly humble about her work and also has a great sense of humor. I told her I needed to add long layers and to soften up the ends of my (literally terrible) haircut from a few weeks ago. She listened, understood, explained what she would do, how it would look, and if I didn't like it, we could always adjust. Nolaska offered me a glass of wine and didn't waste any time getting me to the back to get my hair washed and she started cutting right after. After she was finished she told me if I decided I wanted to adjust it more, I could come back and she would be happy to fix it. To say Nolaska and Mili Salon has given me hope again about Arlington Salons is an understatement. I have now found my salon here after a year of trying out 5 different salons around the DC Metro area. I would definitely recommend this salon to any friend or anyone on yelp!
