I also really like how this studio is set up where she only works on one person - it's intimate but also comfortable. Joy is such a pleasure to go to when I need to get a fresh cut. I bought some hair products and we set an appointment for my hair to be treated and cut. This past weekend was my appointment and wow!! What a difference! Whenever I've shown reference photos, she re-creates them flawlessly. With makeup, I love the lash application she includes and the long-staying wear of the makeup products she applies. She's also extremely efficient, and after the first visit, she perfected my look and made each subsequent appointment easy, quick and simple. I recently visited for a headshot package she offered, where a professional photographer took new photos in her studio after I received hair and makeup treatment. I really appreciated Kris during the shoot, as she offered tips for posing and even touched up my hair and clothing to help me get the perfect shots. She is a master colorist, stays up-to-date on industry trends & techniques and is an all around lovely person. My tip: Make your appointments well in advance. I schedule mine up to a year out. She's highly in demand (that's what I want in a stylist!) and weekends fill up fast. Original review (2016): Sue Scott is amazing with hair, both color and styling. She gave me a balayage of caramel and mocha colors and I've never been so happy with getting color. Then I showed her images of 40s style curls that I'd been trying to accomplish at home. She gave me a great tutorial as she styled my hair, and I though this really went the extra mile. I've been able to replicate it at home, which is what I think we all want to be able to do after we leave the salon. I also felt like Sue really listened to what I wanted. I like to have flexibility to air dry (natural waves), straighten or curl and wanted a cut that would be versatile. I've tried all three since I got my cut last week and I'm very pleased with the results. In the salon, she's really easy to talk to and has a really positive attitude. I think the best way to get an idea of someone's work is to see it. Sue posts almost daily to her Instagram (@wispsalonalexandria), so if you are trying to make a decision on if her style would work for you, this is a good place to start. Upon entering you will find a modern salon with a little bit of an Asian flair in decor. Very clean and calming. I guarantee you will be greeted with a smile, an offer to store your coat and a drink if you like. The waiting area is clean and neat and features a coffee machine and a refrigerator with a selection of refreshing drinks. Honestly I've never waited long because appointments run on time. Next is the hair wash station where I'm always soaped up with lovely scented shampoo that suits my hair type. And there's the heavenly head massage. I could sit there all day! I have short hair and Kevin is an expert at this kind of cut. Love the way he flips the scissors as he works. I've also seen some great color work and he's got many customers with long beautiful haircuts as well. Payment at the front desk is super easy. I was able to get in quickly with Priscilla for both on different days (less than 7 day wait total). They were very flexible when scheduling given I preferred weekday afternoon/Friday hours and likely wouldn't be free on weekends. Priscilla listened to exactly what I wanted and gave expert level feedback both on what I was asking and on what she could do given the condition of my hair (super dry). My trim is excellent and my hair still looks long and healthy despite removing almost 3 inches. When I followed up for color she did an excellent job toning down the brass and making things look super natural so I would have easy maintenance in the future. The salon itself is nice and relaxed. A cozy environment with plenty of plants and comfy places to sit while you process. All of the staff were very friendly. They have stable Wi-Fi. The music is good but not overwhelming. She found the happy medium of getting rid of the frizz while still preserving my length and gave me a style that looks great with minimal effort (I have a new baby so styling tends to take a back seat these days!). The space is beautiful but what really shined were the quality of cut and the friendly conversation. I'm happy to have finally found a stylist I love in the area!
