N & J Nails is the rare exception. After visiting, you almost feel obligated to leave a 5-star review because they've earned it. For those who may not know, Tina and Ben haven't retired. They've simply moved on and created this wonderful salon. We weren't previous clients, but their reputation definitely preceded them. On a Saturday around 4:00 PM, my wife and I decided on a spur-of-the-moment manicure and pedicure date. Anyone who regularly visits nail salons knows that's usually a recipe for disappointment. Either the salon is fully booked, the wait is outrageous, or you end up with the technician nobody else wanted. Thankfully, luck was on our side. I went online and found only two appointment slots remaining. We selected our services, submitted the request, and within five minutes our appointment was confirmed. Shortly afterward, we received a phone call confirming everything and letting us know we could even arrive a little earlier if we'd like. Our appointment was scheduled for 5:15 PM. N & J Nails is located in Alexandria, just a few minutes from Potomac Yard and on the same block as Founding Farmers. Depending on traffic, the 9-mile drive from our home can take anywhere from 20 minutes to over an hour. Thankfully, we made it in just under 30 minutes. Parking was easy. There is both street parking and garage parking available. We chose street parking and paid $4 for two hours, but learned that garage parking can be validated. When we arrived, we were greeted by the same gentleman who had called to confirm our appointment. It wasn't the typical "you're the last appointment of the day, let's get this over with" greeting. It felt like they had genuinely been expecting us and were happy we were there. We were offered beverages and snacks, then settled into the massage chairs for our pedicures. My wife worked with Tina while I had Linda. After reviewing the menu and confirming our selections, they made a few recommendations and got started. My wife chose a spa manicure and spa pedicure with gel polish and builder gel to help strengthen and grow out her natural nails. My service included callus removal, nail trimming and shaping, cuticle care, orange slices, a sea salt and mint mud foot mask, relaxing massage treatments, oil lotion massage, and hot towels. The total before tip was approximately $250 for both of us. Before Linda began, I warned her that I'm extremely ticklish. I usually end up asking technicians to skip the foot massage because it's never enjoyable. Not this time. For the first time ever, I was actually able to enjoy a foot massage. Linda clearly knew exactly what she was doing. There were a couple brief moments during the callus removal that tickled a little, but compared to every other pedicure I've received, it was minimal. The scrub, water temperature, calf massage, foot massage, and overall technique were absolutely perfect. The finished pedicure was flawless. Smooth feet. Perfectly trimmed and shaped nails. No pain. No bleeding. No rushing. What impressed me most was her attention to detail. Even after I would have been completely satisfied, she continued checking, refining, and perfecting her work. She clearly takes pride in what she does. The manicure was equally impressive. Every nail and cuticle received the same level of care and precision. Nothing felt rushed. Everything looked clean, polished, and professional. The hand massage was fantastic as well. I actually started writing this review on Saturday but intentionally waited until Monday to finish it because I wanted to see how everything held up. Two days later? Still perfect. My wife wrote her own review specifically for Tina, but she was equally impressed. Both Tina and Linda were exceptional. Throughout the appointment we shared laughs, had great conversation, and by the end it felt less like visiting a business and more like spending time with people who genuinely care about their clients. Even Ben stopped by toward the end and joined the conversation. That's what makes N & J Nails special. The services were excellent. The salon was spotless. Throughout our visit, staff continuously cleaned and maintained the space. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and relaxing. Most importantly, every person there genuinely seemed to care about delivering the best experience possible. I've been coming to Old Town Nail & Spa on and off for a while, mostly because it's close by…read more Unfortunately, this was my last visit. I had an appointment but still waited about 30 minutes. There were only three workers, which I understand, but it was still frustrating to wait that long with an appointment. The pedicure also felt rushed. Usually you get lotion and a little massage, but none of that was included. At that point I just wanted to get my nails done and leave. For my manicure, the technician used a portable UV lamp that made my nails burn. It was really uncomfortable, and he didn't seem concerned when I mentioned it. I got a French tip, and you could clearly see my nail beds through the polish. When I told him I wasn't happy with how it looked, he just said it was my natural nail instead of trying to fix it. The most disappointing part was the quality. I tipped, left, and in less than 24 hours my thumbnail had already chipped. That has never happened to me before not even when I do my own nails at home. I ended up going to a nail salon in South Carolina, and they immediately told me the nails weren't done well and that they wouldn't last. They also added a better nude base color so you couldn't see my nail beds anymore, which made a huge difference. That showed me that my nails could have been done correctly at Old Town Nail & Spa, but they simply weren't. They also told me more chipping was likely to happen. I paid a lot of money because I wanted my nails to look nice for a wedding that weekend, and instead I got poor-quality nails and disappointing customer service. Sadly, I won't be coming back.

i came in because it was one of the first salons suggested whenever i googled salons nearby. i came…read morein and the lady in the front was nice and helpful, but then i sat down for the pedicure and a younger girl started preparing it. it was evident she's new, and was getting guidance from the lady that was in the front. but then after the first minute or so she didn't get any more help. she was moving very slow, and that makes sense if she's super new. but also... she should have consistent supervision. another customer walked in 5-10 minutes after she started my pedicure and asked for a mani/pedi... by the time she was getting her toes painted my tech JUST started the massage. it was 50 minutes in by then. two other technicians walked by multiple times. looked and saw how long it was all taking and didn't say a word. they went to the back and started laughing a bunch. the front desk lady left the building at this point. i had to direct the girl and tell her what needed to be done. my leg and foot massage was only about 70-90 seconds long (the main reason i even get pedicures). ultimately a huge waste of $55+ also i asked her to make my nails short and flat.... she made them round. when i pointed it out she goes "but you said to make them short?" and proceeded putting clear polish on. finally... painted with the white polish getting it all over the skin. tried taking it off the skin with a brush but it was on too long. then started putting the top coat on. Going to Radiance MedSpa was one of the best choices I've made... I took advantage of a sale on Fraxel treatments (that were still pricey, but just wait) and went 4 times to get this laser procedure that erases acne scars. On my 4th time, I realized half-way through I hadn't put enough money in the parking meter across the street, and Cathy herself ran across and put coins in for me. After my 4th and final treatment I had paid for, I was a bit unsatisfied with how my forehead looked. The improvement there was not nearly as noticeable as the improvement on the rest of my face. So I went back and told Cathy my concerns, and she squeezed me in her schedule RIGHT THEN for another Fraxel treatment on my forehead-- free of charge! Now I'm thrilled with how my skin looks. I could not recommend Radiance Medspa enough to anyone with skin issues! They understand what needs to be done and make it happen... and it all makes such a difference, too! read more

This is a professional place and I wanted to make sure the staff had experience. They do. Lots of it. They offered no nonsense information and are not pushy. What I appreciate most is that she truly does not oversell. She has encouraged me to hold off on treatments, including Botox, when she did not think it was necessary. I trust her completely, and I am constantly complimented on my skin. This is the least salesy medspa I have ever been to. Every recommendation feels considered and tailored, not transactional. I always feel taken care of rather than marketed to. The photofacial has been a game changer for me. I do it once or twice a year with Shaheen, and the results have been noticeable and lasting. I also started laser hair removal here after trying several other places with little success, and this is the first place where I have seen significant results. I recently tried Botox with Patricia, who was also excellent and very much aligned with the same natural, conservative approach. Beyond the results, I genuinely enjoy coming here. I may have only waited 10 days between the second and third visit (which the third visit should not have even been necessary, but whatever) but I still had no results from the third visit! Here is a timeline of my visits: June 24 July 19 (25 DAYS, OVER TWO WEEKS) minimal results from first appointment - tons of movement in my face that I specifically requested to address July 29 (10 DAYS) zero results from second appointment (and zero results from this visit too) This review was written August 18, which is plenty of time for the neuromodulator to kick in after that experience (20 days). Regardless, as I type this update on October 3, I can tell you I did not experience ANY results from that third visit. I refused to put myself through another expensive visit with no results, so I didn't go back for a fourth visit. So I am still sticking by my original review. I've attached photos to confirm the timeline. Instead of believing patients who have had a poor experience, this place chooses to act like we are all idiots because we want something we paid for with a skilled injector who knows what they're doing. There is literally NO reason for me to have NO results between three appointments, and I'm not exaggerating when I say I had FULL movement in my forehead. The owner said Breanna likes to give patients a "natural look" which I guess means you're still going to have heavy movement which will lead to more wrinkles and spending more money at this place for all touch ups. I have never experienced this anywhere else and being upcharged for what's either diluted product or an unskilled injector is crazy. Plus all the other places also charge by the unit too, and I have basically never been charged for a touch up. I will be telling EVERYONE not to visit this place. Absolutely unprofessional and unskilled. Spend your money elsewhere.
