She came out with money pieces that didn't match the rest of her highlights and made her look like a skunk. The highlights didn't even go to the top of her head, leaving her with a gap of like 2-3 inches. We were also charged $265 for this visit. Utterly ridiculous for a teen's hair! We were clearly taken advantage of as new clients, and we will not be back. My 9-year-old daughter and I came in for haircuts and color for back to school and back to work. I asked for a just below shoulder length bob to enhance my natural waves, to keep my natural brown color, cover my grays, and add some natural red highlights. However, what I got was all-over burgundy that hides most of my natural brown (only a few strands peek through), a cut that is above shoulder length, and I got a blowout that REMOVED MY WAVES! I was so disappointed, but as the female stylist (I don't think she ever told me her name) had already proceeded to straighten a large portion of my hair when I clued into what she was doing, I didn't stop her as I didn't think she could fix that. What makes this even weirder is that she literally put in Moroccan Oil Curl Enhancing Cream and another curl product RIGHT BEFORE she proceeded to straighten my hair. That makes no sense to me. She did not listen to me. Of course, this oversight may have been due to her multitasking with several clients at the same time and rushing, because I overheard her tell the receptionist, "I need to leave early today." My daughter asked for a light trim to enhance her natural waves and for the ends/tips of her hair to be dyed aqua/Caribbean blue. The cut was cute and did not remove much of her length and the custom color mix was pretty spot on (a little darker than she wanted), so those aspects were fine. However, the color is on 95% of her head! Just a little wisp of her hair in the center of her part is still natural blonde. This is WAY MORE than "just the ends" that she has asked for. My daughter is happy with it and it does look good on her, but this particular stylist who worked on us DID NOT LISTEN or follow through with what we wanted. It doesn't matter what her opinion of our requests is. It is literally her job to make her clients' dreams/visions become reality. Don't alter a client's request because you think it will look better. Additionally, both my daughter and I were left with color in our hair and told to lay back in the shampoo bowl for 10-20 minutes total for my daughter and about 20-30 total for me. Our necks/backs of our heads are so deeply sore now. There is no need for this enforced discomfort. I am used to having color applied and being left to sit upright in a chair until the color develops. Laying in the bowl is incredibly uncomfortable, especially for a 9 year old (and she did complain to no avail). Then, there is the exorbitant prices we were charged. My cut, color, and highlights, etc. came to $265. My jaw hit the floor. Then, my kiddo's came to $200?! What did you just say?! Highway robbery! I paid, reluctantly, and tipped my stylist for spending 3 hours total on both of us, but I was not happy with the outcome of my hair. I did not feel comfortable complaining, because she had already moved to take the next client and the place with incredibly busy and noisy. I did not want to make a scene. I scheduled an appt here to get my hair done for my baby shower. I just needed a wash and style. I was nervous cause I have never been here before and didn't know how my hair would turn out. It was important for me to love it because there was going to be a professional photographer there and these are photos I would remember forever. My appt was at 9am and I was out of there by 10am. It's exactly what I wanted and the stylist was very, very friendly. She listened to everything I was saying and knew how important the day was for me. My hair held up the entire day especially since there was a big rain storm and my hair can get frizzy pretty easily. This location will be decommissioned soon though as they are moving up to Annandale. I don't doubt the service will be great at the new location as well! Will definitely return. read more

I've been going to Kamaal for eight years now and just started doing keratin with him last year and couldn't be happier. I'm naturally a frizzy, wavy haired dirty blonde (let's face it, I'm probably really a brunette) and Kamaal keeps me looking like a natural blonde with straight, smooth hair. He's funny, mellow, and very flexible to boot, and can do anyone's hair, any way they like--men's, children's too. (He does our whole family.) If I decide I want bangs one day he'll try to talk me off the ledge while still respecting my wishes. We've lopped all my hair off, tried "natural", and every look I've left feeling happy. I'm so upset I couldn't even write a review at first. I was very excited about coming here. I read the reviews and I drive by the place at times too. Well, now I can finally write a review and sadly to say it's not a great one. There were no procedures being done for the COVID at the time it was the beginning phases of everything but still they were giving precautions to take the news. First my stylist was about 20 minutes late which was a little nerve wracking but I stayed calm. Then he finally showed up. We talked about what I wanted done and the coloring of my hair. He seemed to know what he was doing. I was happy at first. I told him I wanted my back cropped up a little more. Well he used the razor technique which was never done to my hair before. I didn't think anything of it since all stylists have their own way of doing styles. Well, fast forward to now it's all split ends and not growing even at all. Also, I am broken out where he did the razor. Now, on to the coloring my hair was light a 7 and now it is a 5. I understand yes every salon uses different brands and types of dye and not one is the same. But it was from light to two shades darker. It was nice but not what I wanted and the dye burned my head. I had dry scalp and peeling weeks after no matter what I put on it. But that's probably because i wasn't used to it maybe. Then when he blow dried my hair I think he noticed my expression because he kept saying that's the same color see. Hmmm I think not. I really had high expectations for this salon and I wish my experience was different. I wanted to like them so much. I'm so mad my hair is all split ends when it wasn't before. I recently went to Stephany for a color correction. First off, let me just start by saying she did an amazing job! I reached out to here after seeing her instagram and she quickly got back to me and collaborated with me on what I wanted and what it was going to take to get me there. She was very knowledgeable on all the levels and colors she used to obtain the balayage and shadow root that I desired. I attached pictures! She started with foil highlights and in between the foils she foiled the pieces that we're not highlighted with color. She then toned the highlights, added shadow roots, and then did an all over tone to achieve exactly what I wanted. I couldn't have been happier and the price was extremely reasonable. I'm a mom of 4 and full-time working mom... so I don't get out much or get to treat myself very often! I decided to have a YOLO moment and called the salon and was given an appointment the same day. I went in for a cut and color. I had some pictures of what I had in mind. Kamaal was very receptive to what I wanted to and took the time to go over different ways to achieve what I was looking for. He definitely nailed it. Yo NO fault of his own my hair quickly started to reject the color and started turning to a copper faded look. I'm not a complainer but went on another YOLO and called the salon to talk to Kamaal and discuss my concerns. Kamaal happened to be off and yet he still called me within minutes! He told me to come back in to the salon. He was ready with alternative solutions and ready to get to work. Again he did great! At this point I think my hair just doesn't do well with red as it used too. Kamaal is Awesome and really wants his customer to be HAPPY! Highly recommended! read more

Nice people but if looking for decent blowout, this is not the place. The salon was very dirty, no one was sweeping so there was hair everywhere. They showcase pureology in the front but the shampoo they used smelled like cupcakes which is not the same line. My stylist was definitely double booked and I have a lot of hair, I could tell they were annoyed. Really disappointed because I wanted to enjoy myself and find a new salon. Went and saw Omar in May and told him I wanted to grow my hair out, gave me a good cut and told me to wait on getting my hair cut until I came back. I waited the whole summer and I came back last week and specifically told him I wanted to keep it long and change the style up a bit but really just trim the sides and keep it even. He then proceeded to listen to nothing I told him and gave me a buzz cut and not keeping it even at all, cutting all of my beautiful new hair off including the curls I had let grow all summer to obtain telling me "this is your style." I rarely write reviews, but this place needs a reckoning. Seconding Elizabeth M.'s experience. I went to a colorist (I think her name is Kay or Kate), who was working on multiple clients all at once. This was my first time at this place, but I've had my hair colored before (it's a simple all over color, nothing fancy)...it doesn't take nearly three hours. The price at end came out to more than $200. Do they charge by the hour?? The math did not add up in the slightest. The money aside, the hair color application was splotchy and uneven - except the skin around my face apparently because when I got in my car, I looked like I drew on myself with a Sharpie. 11 years ago, I came to Omar after reading an online review that said he "did magic with short hair." I'm 56 years old and have seen a lot of stylists in my time, but I'll never leave Omar unless I die or leave the state. He's that good. His cuts and color are inspired, customized to you, and stellar ... Every. Single. Time. Even when I've been WAY overdue (like ack, 4 months? Hello, Covid-19), the cut is still workable. (I don't recommend that time span, but still.) How the hell he makes me look that good still eludes me after all these years. Yesterday was no exception. Trust me, the guy IS a freaking magician. I just got the worst haircut and all over color I have ever had in my life. The stylist dyed my hair witch black (I am a medium brunette) and the cut is so bad it looks like my hair is a helmet. The photo below is what my hair looks like. Replace the brown with black and it is exactly what it looks like. And no I won't be going back to get it "fixed". I have to say, this has been the best salon experience that I have ever had. Newly moving to the area, I was hesitant on where to go and who to trust with my finicky hair. I have always been told that my hair highlights difficulty resulting in my end look in the salon chair being a less then desirable yellow/orange blond. After researching several websites and reviews over the course of a month, I kept coming back to the several outstanding reviews for Stephani Newman at Salon Prive. I decided to take the plunge and boy am I happy that I did! Stephani was outstanding from the start. During the consultation, I showed her several pictures of the dimensional blond I wanted to acquire. I was fully prepared for her to say it would take several sessions or even perhaps that my hair would not be able to achieve the look since I was told that before. Not the case with Stephani! She intensely worked on my hair putting in highlights & a lowlight as well as a pearl glacé. I am usually very cautious with allowing people to cut my hair, but after seeing how dedicated she was with getting the look I wanted and the dimension she achieved, I decided on a long layered hair cut. Tried this place for a hair cut post baby. I went here since the reviews raves about how amazing they are. I have long hair to my bra line and it just needed a trim and a little style since pregnancy makes your hair full and heavy. I asked for a no maintenance cut and was given a choppy "Rachel from friends" cut from the 90s. It looked terrible. I had it cut back in May and it's finally long enough to go somewhere else for them to fix the cut. I just moved here and previously went to a salon where the stylists use new cutting techniques and todays styles when cutting. read more

I went for a cut and took my son (10) with me because he needed professional bang trimming (my days are over.) Omar did a great job on my cut but he knocked it out of the park for my son. Maybe I don't put enough effort in my hair to come to Salon Prive, but I wasn't impressed. I used some sort of a coupon as it was my first (and last) visit and just came in one day before heading to the gym. The receptionist was really cold and advised that she was unsure if they'd be able to see me today. There was one stylist with a customer, one just walking around or something, one woman in the lounge waiting and me... It was 6:30 pm and the place closed at 8 pm that night... She advised I just sit and wait so I did. It took FOREVER to be seen. I was the last customer of the night. Joey cut my hair and I didn't ask for anything special: just a cut, no bangs. I guess this is just the kind of person he is, but OMG, every other word out of his mouth was a curse word... I'm not used to such colorful language. He also made a weird comment... he asked me if I get my hair cut often. His exacts words were "You're not used to getting your hair cut, are you?" Apparently I'm not used to hair cuts? Umm... My haircut was with kamal, and i cant say enough great things about him! This salon has given me the best experience I've ever had. After calling multiple hair salons in hopes of getting a same day appointment, I came across this amazing place. Kamaal, my hair magician, spent so much time perfecting every single detail and strand. He was amazing in explaining exactly what he was doing and what it would do, and he explained things very thoroughly.
