As we walked down Main Street we decided to go into the All You Knead bakery. I don't know why we never did before. It's an old-fashioned bakery; there's nothing wrong with that! It smells like a bakery should when you walk in. I was surprised seeing bialys on the menu board. They're hard to find, any more. Long ago every Jewish bakery in the Bronx had them. Picked up a couple of bialys, paid, and left. Within minutes I noticed the bag had grease stains. The bialys onions leaked. An old fashioned lined bakery bag would have been a nice touch. Small, quaint shop that is truly the type of bakery one might find in regional France or Italy on a cobblestone street. Freshly baked zucchini bread is the best I have ever had from a bakery. Very pleasant counter help. The chocolate croissants are fresh and delicious; I tried them with a cup of coffee and are the perfect pairing for a warm drink. This place has really great bread and pastries, and sometimes other things--cookies, pot pies, empanadas. The staff are also very pleasant. I'd give them 5 stars if it weren't so frustrating not to know when they're open, and that they're not open earlier in the day. Hours are posted differently on various sites and on the door, not posted at all on the web site, and different still if you ask. You have to just go, and often that does not pan out. The limited number of days open seems standard in Beacon, unfortunately, but that too is very frustrating. I really want to buy from them, but it's a challenge. read more

The food is great here from this establishment, BUT I think they need to work a little better at their customer service skills. I do not understand why they don't pick up a phone or return a phone call. They ask you leave a message/ order. It's a little confusing since they don't return a call, so how would you know if your order has been filled? Like I had said at the beginning of this, the food is good but again, customer service needs work. Since my review was posted, the owner of the business has reached out and explained that they have been having issues with their phone services for the past few years. I highly recommend when visiting, please try the chicken pot pies. They are delicious along with their other goodies!!! read more

I really wanted to gate keep this place... but considering the fact that everyone at the Beacon Farmers Market knows that they have the best bread in town, I might as well share. Don't let the line drive you away, it moves very fast and the girls who work the stand are super quick and kind. I began coming here for the sourdough but the cookies are to DIE for! The danishes, muffins, pizza, empanadas, and pretzels are also delicious. In my opinion, this is the only bakery in Beacon where you can genuinely tell that everything is homemade. Their little shop is open a few days throughout the week too, if you're not a "Farmers market" type of person. I'd post a pic, but I've already eaten through my stash for the week. Wow. Customer service is essentially that they act as if they don't really care to actually sell their stuff. They refused to take my credit card because it didn't meet the $10 minimum for cards. I didn't have any cash so my choices were to buy additional things I didn't want or leave. I did the math, it would have cost them 12 cents to take my card as the transaction fee they would pay to the vendor. They lost a sale over 12 cents?? Really?? I might suggest an alternative since I've encountered minimums before from small businesses and I get it. Often in these situations, businesses will add a small fee, like 50 cents if one doesn't meet the minimum. The business gets their costs covered and the customer actually gets what they want. All you knead is cheesy poofs We found these folks at the Pleasantville winter's farmers market and couldn't have been more impressed. I got a cheese puff, which is basically an enclosed cheese danish. Wonderfully sweet on the inside (filling) and slightly salty on the inside. I should add at this point that the cheese Danish is the highest form of pastry and is without peer in the world of Danishes. Oh, my. And yes! Their pastries are freshly baked and from scratch. The turbinado-crusted fruit Danish are incredible, and come in apple, blueberry, cherry, and peach. Mini quiches are soooooo creamy. We tried the bacon-cheese and the broccoli-cheddar - both delicious, fluffy, and light. Their blueberry muffins are to die for - fresh blueberries, moist muffin, and not so sweet as store muffins. Absolutely perfect. Their many varieties of croissants are flaky, buttery masterpieces. Wrong, wrong, wrong. This isn't trying to be a typical bake shop. It's small and personal, and that means 1. waiting, and 2. being served by someone who's not particularly efficient, but that person baked your stuff and can speak intelligently about the process. Let me stop swatting away ignorant reviews and explain, simply, what this is. It's a really good baker making a few capricious things in small quantity. it's like a used book store....you'll never find what you're looking for, but you'll always go away happy if you're open-minded (other reviewers are not open-minded). They're not trying to meet your expectations on any level. Their bagels are ridiculously inauthentic, but they're so wonderfully dense and flavorful (I believe they use heirloom wheat; so characterful). But they don't always have them. Their savory pastries, stuffed with roast potatoes and onions and spinach and such, are earthy/hippy terrific. And they don't always have them. Their croissants (which they don't always have) aren't like Paris, but they're uber-charming. Chocolate or almond ones even better. Everything has lively personality and deep touch. Everything's PERSONAL, so it won't meet your previous assumptions and expectations. Not that it's any sort of crazy/experimental, it's not. It's just got personal touch. That's what I look for from a bakery. But so few of them provide it that the average person can't appreciate it when they find it. Sad! Don't judge by what it's not. Judge by what it is. They don't answer their phone so you can't place special orders; and they do not return phone calls when you leave a message (I have left several). If you're in the area and they have what you need (they run out fast) it's awesome. However, the likelihood that they will have what you need (which is important for those of us who drive quite a ways) is slim to none (I have tried many times). When my house guests first had All You Knead's white bread toasted with butter and jam, my guests quickly finished the loaf. I now buy two loaves of white bread at a time. The Thanksgiving pumpkin pie that I ordered was also a hit with family. It was infused with whiskey from Dennings Point Distillery, which is right around the corner from All You Knead. The owners are staff are so nice, and I love that they make unusual things, like vegi and potato samosas! When we moved out of NYC we lost quick access to our favorite Indian place and samosas were my favorite. Now I have a new source right around the corner! If I need a chocolate croissant, cookie, different breads, or lunch pockets, it's all here. Love having All You Knead as our local bakery. read more

Rise A. definitely a competitor (it's obvious), and definitely wrong! Must be very local to try to veer customers away from this shop! I've been here twice and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! Our first visit, we had the lamb and mushroom spring roll. Absolutely full of flavor! Had us curious enough for a second visit. My favorite side with my coffee is a croissant...and theirs are amazing! Definitely can taste that fresh right-out-of-the-oven baked goodness! Slight flakey on the exterior, fluffy in the interior. My boyfriend had the pulled pork and jalapeño cheese empanada - delicious! Had to take a bite to taste. Everything that's out on display look very appealing. When you enter the shop, the wonderful aroma of fresh bread and pastries are very pleasant. With two visits so far, came across two different staff, and BOTH ladies were very SWEET! Like I said before, the negative comments on here are obviously from a very nearby competitor...you'll have to stop by to see for yourself! Oh, and bread out with the birds (as noted in Rise A.'s negative review)???? REALLY?!?!?! Unless they have a pigeon coop inside the shop!!!! Also, although I didn't ask for any type of drink, I believe they don't offer any. I didn't observe coffee machines or a cool drink refrigerator, or any indication that drinks are offered.
