This place was recommended to us by a local, and it did not disappoint! We came here during the weekend of the Cherry Blossom 10 mile and 5k runs. I was doing both and loved an excuse to carb load. Buona: 5/5. Could've been spicier but otherwise lovely flavors, just the right about of oil and honey, delicous meat and cheese, cornichone. I rarely eat the cornichone unless it was worth it -- this one was. Enzo the Baker: 5/5 from my partner who ordered it, 4.5/5 for me as the pickled vegetables on a pizza are less my thing. But it still tasted great, lots of fun flavors and textures here. AP Caesar Salad: 6/5 tasted extra good for some reason. Maybe it was the slightly citrusy or sour dressing, combined with the slight crunch and soft dairy of the various toppings that were well incorporated into the leaves. We recently visited All-Purpose Shaw on a business trip to DC. We really liked it! We ordered Arancini for and appetizer and the Bueno Pizza. The food was fantastic. We especially loved the pizza. You could tell the ingredients were fresh and the chef made it extra special. The staff was really good. The service was outstanding and the food came out fast and hot! It is a really cool little place with a beautiful interior. It doesn't look like much from the street but when you get inside, it feels warm and authentic. All Purpose is another consistent go to of mine. The service is speedy and their staff is kind, they have a variety of menu items on both their dinner and brunch menus, and they have a fairly priced bottomless brunch deal for $19 currently. You can't go wrong with any of their pizzas. My favorites are The Sedgewick and a the Duke #7. The quality of the food is definitely worth the price that you pay. The Shaw location is the perfect size space, small enough that it feels quaint and large enough that you don't feel like you are on top of others while dining. All Purpose is from the same restaurant group as Red Hen, which is a favorite of mine, so it's not surprising that it's also fantastic! The pizza crust is so good, and they have a lot of different options for topping combinations. My favorite is the Sedgwick, which is a white pizza with black truffle honey. And while Caesar salad may not sound like a must-order, at All Purpose it is. Their Caesar is lemony and fresh and better than almost any other I've had. Ended up really liking this place and would come back! First of all the service was really friendly. Keep in mind that they automatically add a 20% service charge for dining in and to go orders. The inside of the restaurant was dimly lit making the ambiance feel nice and cozy. It's also about a 5 minute walk from the Mt. Vernon metro stop so super accessible! We ordered the arancini (which I think they change the flavors seasonally, so this one had corn), the calamari, and the buona pizza with the chile dipper sauce. I'm not a huge cheese person, so the arancini was a little overwhelming for me but my friend liked it and gave it a 7/10. The calamari I feel you can't really go wrong with, and I loved how this one came with sweet peppers. It was coated with a green sauce which was creamy and delicious! However, not a fan of the tomato based sauce that came on the side. I liked the flavor of the sauce but thought the pairing with the calamari was off since it tasted similar to a tomato based sauce for pizza. Lastly, the pizza!!! Now this was really the star of the show. LOVED pairing it with the chile sauce since it added a bit of spice to the sweetness of the pizza from the honey sauce. We love this place and came a few time in a few years when we craved good pizza and drinks in casual mood. Always good wine and beer, delicious pizza, we never got disappointed before. We love to sit at the bar casual way here - those bartenders are the best. Both of them ( Friday - last night ) were friendly and so nice with happy mood and made us relax. He led me try to taste when I debated the Reds and I asked him, ( thank you :) I liked Nebbiolo blend from Italy and Syrah blend from France this time. I love their wine selection here, so much better quality wine than other fancy Italian restaurants I've been to. This is very casual place, Not too many selection and actually they chose a few better quality ones that's great. Foods and drinks are all well worth the price and reasonable. In brief: The big plus here was the food. This was what an artisan pizza should be, from crust to toppings to the execution, it really was delicious. However, this place is small, loud and crowded. Also, I didn't love that there was a 20% fee on our bills (perhaps because we needed a spilt check? We had to do that because they were getting turned in at work for reimbursement) but THEN the checks had a space for another tip as well! I mean, service wasn't that good. I had a night to myself and stumbled across this place. It's a pizza place but not a pizza joint. Handcrafted, with five star quality ingredients, not pre-prepared toppings. Great beer on tap, friendly service, and a wide variety of options for different palettes. I had the Vespa with Sausage, and the parm fondutta on the side. Finally got a chance to try out this spot. Albeit, we did so via delivery. Props for great food packaging. Everything arrived in perfect shape. No spills, all still hot, etc. We started with the Caesar salad and garlic knots. The Caesar was yum. Tasty dressing and the toasted breadcrumbs were much better than the standard croutons. The garlic knots were amaze. A wonderful tasty mix, especially with the lemony butter stuff it came with. For pizzas, we ordered both the Standard and the Enzo. Yum yum! This may be our favorite DC pizza. Just the right amounts of thickness, char, crustiness, etc. And I absolutely loved the combo of toppings on the Enzo. I came to All-Purpose on a Saturday evening. We made reservations ahead of time and were seated immediately when we arrived. Our waiter Jaime brought us waters and gave us some time to look over the menu. He was very attentive and checked on us multiple times throughout our meal. I ordered the Pimm's Cup, Tomato Bruschetta and Vespa Pizza. The Pimm's Cup drink has Pimm's No. 1, sparkling lemonade, mint and cucumber. I really liked this drink, they don't skimp on the alcohol! The Tomato Bruschetta comes with heirloom tomatoes, white bean puree, herbs and olive oil toast. This appetizer wasn't amazing and it wasn't terrible, the white bean puree didn't pair well with the other flavors... it was very bland. The Vespa Pizza comes with porcini cream, mozz, spring leeks, wild mushrooms and black truffle sauce. I was pleasantly surprised by this pizza, it is a must try! I wanted to try something different from a typical pizza and Vespa hit the spot :) The food came out quickly and staff were friendly and attentive. On my first DC visit in many years, I had to prioritize food, and all purpose Shaw made it in my list. Coming from the northeast, my expectations for pizza is always low outside of where I'm from and this place did an okay job. It probably is good pizza for DC, but I have too high of standards. The Standard had good flavor and was well cooked. It was a nice personal pizza. The fried mozzarella was perfectly cooked, had a nice basil pesto, and had some delicious surprise sausage inside of it. The seasoning might have been lacking. I love pizza, yes I do! I can see why All Purpose is so popular. Cute restaurant, excellent service and good food. We started with the Italian Hash Browns, Topped with smoked salmon. Very yummy. I love the seasonings. Double stuffed fried mozzarella, stuffed with spinach. Yum. Pizzas were Sedgewick, whipped ricotta, mozzarella, truffle honey. I'm not a huge fan of truffle but it was faint and not too strong. The 2nd was Sunny Side, mozzarella with two sunny side up eggs, we didn't get the corned beef which it usually comes topped with. Our server said this was the top seller and his favorite. Parking in DC is not fun. We found a gas station across the street which charged $20 for parking. Been waiting to write this one out of fairness to the business. I've got take out, tried to sit down but couldn't get a table, and sat down and ate. There are pros and cons but personally I would never eat here again. First off is 20% service charge. Protest or defend as you'd like, but what's absurd is that they levy this charge on TAKEOUT. I've never heard of that and I think it might be an intentional thing to turn people away. Second off the vegan options are awful to nonexistent. Feels a little outdated. The pizza is good. The first time I ate there I got a pepperoni and hot honey pizza which was decadent but pretty damn good. The ambiance is nice, and our server was very friendly and attentive. The price is not ridiculous for DC. Lastly, the caesar salad and garlic knots were NOT good. Garlic knot was grossly greasy and felt like a donut. Caesar salad was difficult to finish bc of a chemically aftertaste and too much cheese/dressing. They stop serving anything but pizza after 10pm or something, which feels contrived. Overall one of the most mixed bag places I've been to, which is why I wanted to review it. read more

From the photos on Yelp, they did look a little smaller than your average pie, but it was definitely a personal-sized pizza. One of my less stellar pizza experiences in DC. The buona pizza was maybe an exception as I love the combination of hot honey and pepperoni, but the crust wasn't crispy at all. I need me those burnt edges. The marinara pizza just wasn't very good, it's absolutely drenched in garlic which in small doses would be great but it's so overpowering. As for apps, the double stuffed fried mozzarella was a hit. Basically very large mozzarella sticks which it's hard to go wrong with, though I kinda just wish they gave a traditional marinara sauce with them.
