1 star because by the time I ultimately did receive the tile I ordered, it was fine and just what I needed. Also, there were some very nice people at the store who really shouldn't be penalized for what appears to be very unprofessional management. However, the way I was treated in the process of getting my order fulfilled was sloppy, unprofessional and downright rude when it was all said and done. If you can source your tile from anywhere else, I would suggest you do so.
Having completely renovated two homes over the years and run my own professional services business for 18, I know that mistakes can happen with any order. I also know that every mistake/error is an opportunity to salvage or enhance the customer relationship. At every mistake, delay, screw-up with my order, Import Tile did nothing to capitalize on that opportunity and in the end, made it worse.
A brief summary of some, not all, of the problems I encountered:
Before placing my order, I was told that the particular tile always came in a week. Upon placing my order they said it could be two weeks. 10 days later, the order came in, but short. Only 2 of 52 pieces of each of two types of tile were delivered. I was given apologies and told the rest of it would be coming on a rush basis. It did, but again, the order was short. Only one type of tile came. Now my project is on hold, waiting for this tile. Again apologies are given and they'll rush it again.
Customer service, although the people were pleasant, was horrible. I always had to call to find out what was going on. If the salesperson I worked with wasn't there, no one would help me, telling me to wait until she came back in another day. When I asked, politely, for some consideration for all the delays and mistakes by requesting that they messenger the final delivery to me at my job site, (so I wouldn't lose another day to a UPS delivery and have to go from SF to Berkeley in afternoon traffic,) I was told by the owner, "I really don't want to hear any more of your bitching. We've lost a lot of money on this job already."
That was it for me. I drove across the bridge and back (2 hrs.) to get my tile and be done with them. They will never get my business again, and they lost another sale as my mother, who is also doing a renovation and had chosen a tile from their shop, heard what the owner said to me and promptly went out to Tez Marble in Burlingame and found something else. read more
