Our drinks were served quickly. My Friend had a Martini and I had a glass of Red Moscato. Their menu had something for everyone. Once I saw Corned Beef & Cabbage I did not need to look any further. I love corned Beef & Cabbage. Theirs was perfect. Served with whipped potatoes and whole carrots. I asked our server if the potatoes could be substituted for a double order of cabbage the next time and she said she was sure it could but may have a little extra charge. My Friend chose Jagerschnitzel. A German dish consisting of hand-flattened, fried pork loin, topped with onion and mushroom gravy. It was served with kraut, warm potato salad and green beans. She seemed pleased with her choice. Park Lane gives a welcoming vibe that makes me think of the old TV show Cheers. The kind of place that makes you feel like everyone knows your name. Sit at the bar, a high top table near the bar and watch The Big Game or take a seat on the other end of the restaurant and have a Family dinner or maybe a table for two. There were no menus, and I was expected to order using the pictures on the wall, some that had no prices. While ordering, I was informed that the majority of drinks were out; the only choices were diet Pepsi, lemonade, sweet tea and orange. How is this possible. Anyway, there was some confusion on how many sides came with each meal, leading me to end up with more sides. After ordering, I waited a while for my food. I asked for hot sauce, ketchup and utensils...I was given a few unwrapped forks from a cup, and told they didn't have packets. They pointed me to a table with a few bottles, including Franks Red Hot. Not sure it was supposed to be that color so I skipped it. On to the food. First up was the sides of mac and cheese and collards. At $4 per side, the containers were tiny. I would complain, but the sides were so bad, I'm glad I didn't have much to eat. The collards were dry, had no taste, but were somehow spicy. The mac and cheese was okay, but runny. Next was the fish sandwich; they were out of lettuce and tomato, so that wasn't an option. The portion on this was good, but it was simply bread and fish, no sauce. The fish tasted a bit plasticy, so I tossed. Now comes the fried chicken. Holy guacamole, the chicken was great! Top five in Hampton Roads!!! Overall, the experience at this location sucked. Oh my goodness, we were so surprised with the presentation as well as the taste. The grits tasted fresh, large serving and seasoned well. Those jumbo shrimp were so perfect sitting on top of the grits. So pleasantly delighted with the amount of shrimp too. Usually, some places only want to give you 3-4 (small or medium shrimp). The THREE staff members holding down the hostess station yelled at him to shut the door. Seriously? So my suggestion is to teach your staff to pay attention to your customers more frequently while dining, clean the restroom SEVERAL times a day, and discover that being kind to your elders is a sign of respect. How about coming from behind that desk and assisting the patrons in vs yelling at someone who's trying to help them into your establishment.
